Foundations -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup with SoftFlex SPF 6 for Combination/Oily Skin

Seeing as how I have only ever used department store foundations (MUFE and Clinique) since I started wearing them in late high school/early college, I cannot say enough good things about this incredible drugstore foundation! I have melasma, acne dark marks, and incredibly oily skin. After hearing about this all over YouTube, I gave it a shot when my MUFE Mat Velvet ran out and I was tired of spending $40 on something that only seemed to slightly mask my dark marks. OH MY GOSH! Why didn't get ride of my MUFE sooner?! Colorstay is a true full coverage foundation and it has major major staying power! It literally lasts all day even after being blotted with paper and smudged here and there when I have an itch or wipe my mouth with a napkin during lunch. It doesn't make my face oily (MUFE always did even though it was oil free) and it doesn't make me break out either. True it does have a strong scent, but I dont' care at all because of how great it makes my skin look and how good it makes me feel! It has become my shield and I will go nowhere without it! I use a foundation brush and only apply it as I go, so I don't have an issue with it drying on my skin before I can blend it out. I want to try it with a Beauty Blender next.

Eyeliner -Jordana - Fabu Liner Liquid Eyeliner Pen
rated 5 of 5
TeacherCarrie 1/20/2013 10:04:00 AM

Great, great, great, liquid liner for doing a winged look! I have both the brown and black and love these! After trying numerous liquid liners (pen and sponge brush) and have even more problems with the tip drying out, or not getting a fine enough line for my wing...these are the best!! How can you beat the price and the quality?! For such an inexpensive liner, it lasts an awfully long time when I wear it. I have the hardest time finding them though because Walgreens is always sold out of them. The only thing I have a very tiny tiny issue with is that they do smell a little funky. But I could care less about that because everything else about them is fantastic!

Loose Powders -Palladio - Rice Powder
rated 5 of 5
TeacherCarrie 1/20/2013 9:56:00 AM

Best oily skin setting powder ever!!!! I read somewhere online that using mineral products for a base can hold back the oil better than anything else on the market. This was after I almost tried using Milk of Magnesia and found out how bad the pH is for skin. I was annoyed and wanted to find an alternative and that is when I found out about Palladio's Rice Powder (and also the use of Hourglass Veil Mineral primer). The minerals apparently absorb the oil and help keep it at bay. Let me give you some perspective. I use oil free moisturizer, foundation, and powder. But 1.5 hours after I put my makeup on, I already have to use a blotting paper. Three hours later, I have to use 2 of the large Sephora papers to blot my skin and then again every 2 hours, it is that bad. With this rice powder (and the Hourglass primer), I am not shiny till about 4-5 hours later, and even then I only have to use 1-2 blotting papers and then I usually don't have to use them again unless I'm going out at night and want to get rid of a slight shine that develops. This stuff is absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G for people with oily skin. I do wish there was some sort of a clasp or closing mechanism to keep the lid on. But to me, this rice powder is worth it. When I travel I will probably put some cotton in side and then put a rubber band around it. This won't keep me from not buying it though at all. It's only $2.99 for goodness sakes!

Best primer for oily skin ever!!!! I read somewhere online that using mineral products for a base can hold back the oil better than anything else on the market. I was annoyed and wanted to find an alternative and that is when I found out about Hourglass Veil Mineral primer (and also the use of Rice Powder as a setting powder). The price is insane so I got the smaller bottle for $18 to test it out. Let me give you some perspective. I use oil free moisturizer, foundation, and powder. Concealers -BeneFit Cosmetics - Erase paste
rated 3 of 5
TeacherCarrie 1/20/2013 9:46:00 AM

I used this as my undereye concealer for well over a year before I ran out. I did NOT repurchase it because I hated how badly it creased in the very fine lines under my eyes. While it was great with concealing the circles and lighter shade of skin (vs. the rest of my face) when I wore it, I hated that it would start to look cakey near the end of the day and crease. For the price I was not willing to repurchase it and instead went with the popular Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser for Dark Circles. I love that 5x more!

Foundations -Vichy - Dermablend Corrective Foundation
rated 5 of 5
TeacherCarrie 11/22/2012 9:32:00 AM

Vichy teamed up with Dermablend in order to make this a makeup every day people can use for their face, not just their body. It is very fully coverage and is meant for people with skin discoloration disorders, acne scarring, and such...it's not meant for people with minor redness or pimples. I finally found this in some stores nearby and am so thankful! I fit the needs for this makeup exactly. I actually use this foundation as more of a spot concealer b/c my whole face (although it feels like it) is not not covered in discoloration. It blends well with my skin color, even though it seemingly looks a shade too dark out of the bottle. I wear it over my MFE foundation. It lasts all day and keeps things hidden that my medium coverage foundation doesn't by the end of the day. I am extremely self-conscious about my melasma and this stuff makes me feel more confident...finally! $29.50 seems high, but for what it does and the quality of the makeup itself...it is completely worth it and inexpensive for what it is.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Perfection Volumizing Mascara
rated 5 of 5
TeacherCarrie 11/4/2012 10:43:00 AM

My HG mascara for the last 7 mo the has been Laura Mercier's Full Blown Mascara be ause I have lots of lashes, they just need volume and slight length. But I ran out recently and I couldn't get to Sephora to buy some, so I consulted the reviews here for a drugstore volume mascara. This one was only .2 lower in ratings than Full Blown! Bought it up in a second and love it! The only difference I see between the two is the formula. LM's is a little less drying. But CG's is great with volumizing and it only flakes a tiny bit...great for a drugstore brand! I like that my lashes are still 90% flexible with a formula that seems to be not as moist as LM's. The brushes are seemingly identical too. I will be repurchasing this as soon as it's out...no need to spend money on a bigger named product here.

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
rated 5 of 5
TeacherCarrie 11/27/2011 11:14:00 AM

Best eye primer ever! I also have the shimmery version of this primer as Ulta is selling both the matte and shimmer versions in the old bottle in a $19 set. Run don't walk to get yourself this set. It keeps my eye shadow in place and I have oily lids. Love that!

Primer/ Corrector -BeneFit Cosmetics - That Gal
rated 2 of 5
TeacherCarrie 11/27/2011 11:11:00 AM

I only have the sample size included in BeneFit's Confessions of a Concealaholic collection. So, this review has nothing to do with the packaging of the normal sized That Gal. But, I must say, this stuff is not very good for a person with super oily skin! I had never used an all-over face primer before and my skin is very oily (all over, not just the T-zone). I put just a dab on the back of my hand and spread it all over my face. It doesn't keep my makeup on unfortunately because of my oily skin, it slides off instead. The smell is nice as everyone says and it glides on quickly. I'm not sure if the brightening bit works on me though, I didn't notice a huge difference.

Mascara -BeneFit Cosmetics - BADgal Lash
rated 3 of 5
TeacherCarrie 11/25/2011 1:00:00 PM

Best mascara ever! I've only ever used Covergirls Lash Blast in the past many years...so coming from that, this mascara is awesome! The brush does a really good job of adding volume and length to my lashes. The formula isn't drying so I don't get the crumbly bits all over my undereye area throughout the day. There might be a few here and there, but it's nothing compared to drugstore brands. The formula doesn't dry completely though and that is the only thing that bugs me a little. Despite that, it doesn't seem to smudge during the day.

Eyeliner -Rimmel - Exaggerate Full Color Eye Definer - Sable 211
rated 4 of 5
TeacherCarrie 11/25/2011 12:58:00 PM

Easy to go on and I have had zero issues with it smudging during the day on my lash line. I have not tried it on my waterline before, but as it is waterproof, I am guessing I shouldn't have an issue. I just wish it was easier to keep a point to the tip with it being a retractable eyeliner. It also doesn't last as long as a eye pencil does. But with the price, it isn't that big of a deal for how well it works and goes on. I want to get it in black now.

Eyeliner -NYX - Eye / Eyebrow Pencil * 901 * Black
rated 2 of 5
TeacherCarrie 11/25/2011 12:46:00 PM

I only bought this because Rimmel was out of their black eyeliner and this one had decent reviews. But after wearing it for several days, yesterday I especially noticed that after putting it on my lash line, there was what looked like smudged or runny marks on my bottom tear duct area. It looked like I had cried it off when I hadn't cried at all that day. It also doesn't go on as smoothly as I'd like. It will work for now until my Ulta stocks up their Rimmel black eyeliner again. Sigh.

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - Naked Palette
rated 5 of 5
TeacherCarrie 11/25/2011 12:41:00 PM

Just bought this about 2 weeks ago and have worn it every day since with a different look every single day! It's the first expensive palette I've owned (aside from maybe a Clinique duo back in the day). There are two shades that do have a lot of all out, but the matte shades, and the shimmery gold, brown, and champagne colors make up for it two-fold! I am in love with the way it makes my eyes look and how natural the looks are. I do love to use the brush as a blending brush and it works very well for that too. I'm in love with this palette!

Concealers -Sally Hansen - Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy Fast Fix Concealer
rated 3 of 5
TeacherCarrie 11/23/2011 1:51:00 AM

I love that this concealer is in a pink/lilac color because it reflects light differently than a regular beige concealer would...at least that is what Carmindy always says. It is sheer and goes on smoothly with the ring finger and over foundation. It does crease and that would be the downside. I've also noticed it looks a bit cakey near the area close to my tear duct though and that bugs me a bit. I've used Benefit's Eye Bright in the past and didn't seem to notice creasing with it. But it is the only other concealer I know that has this pinkish tone to it. I'm not sure whether I'll ditch this SH version or not.

Blush -Sally Hansen - Natural Beauty Sheerest Cream Blush Inspired By Carmindy
rated 4 of 5
TeacherCarrie 11/23/2011 1:43:00 AM

This was my first cream blush and I have loved it! It goes on easily and smooth with a sponge. Even with my oily skin and large pores it went on evenly and didn't gather in my pores. The color is pigmented and it lasts all day for me with a sheer layer of my powder over it. I have it in Beaming and the only reason I might stop using it is because I've come to realize I am more of a warm undertone. I only wish it was easier to find in stores rather than online.
