Makeup Brushes -MAC - #136 Large Powder/Blush Brush

I bought this brush about 3 weeks ago from a MAC store. I had read the reviews and was hoping for a soft brush to apply powder or blush. The MA tried a blush on me using the brush; it felt soft and the results looked great. I attributed to the results to a professional MA. The next morning, I tried the brush at home. The results were incredible. I usually am "all thumbs" when it comes to make-up application. However, with this brush, I was able to get the light, polished look I was seeking. I highly recommend the brush. Yes, MAC brushes are a little pricey, but they are definitely worth the cost. I'm thinking of buying another one--one for blush and one for beauty powder.

Makeup Brushes -MAC - Hello Kitty Brush Set

Overall, this is an adorable brush set and holder. The brushes selected are an excellent combination of a few of my all time MAC favourites (187, 109, 239) and the cup is sturdy and oh so very cute. I like that it is made from moulded plastic so it can be wiped out with a damp cloth for cleaning. I agree, the MAC se brushes are not the same quality as the full size MAC brushes. Based on my experience (and reading the reviews online), this is generally true about most travel sized brushes. However, the smaller brushes are awesome for carrying in a purse.

Eye Shadow -Bare Escentuals - Loose Powder Eyeshadow

I bought the Get Started Eyes Kit. I liked the idea that it was mineral and should therefore be more gentle on my eyes. Unfortunately, I found it very irritating. I later found out that the product contains bismuth. Apparently a number of people experience irritation or allergies from Bismuth. I really hated the mess. Powder seemed to be flying everywhere. I found the jars difficult to use and it was hard to shake out just a little powder. All the swirling and tapping delivered more product to the room than to my face. For the more skillful user, the system may work. I did follow the instruction video, use a primer and take time to practice and I still had problems not making a mess. I will admit, I am a make-up novice in many respects. However, the MA insisted to me that this product is very easy to use. Also, I found the colour did not last through the workday. I didn't want to risk bringing the shadows with me for the day because of their mess. The initial look was beautiful and very natural with a very light texture. As a side note, I also found the brushes very scratchy. But then, maybe I've been spoiled by MAC brushes! This products reviews seem to be very mixed. People appear to either really love or really hate BE eye shadows. My advice would be to try the product for several days in a row (possibly a sample???) or buy it from somewhere you can return it in case of a reaction. I found the irritation developed after several days of use. Also, I recommend getting the MA to give a demonstration unless you are a skillful mu user.

CD/Books/Movies -Bobbi Brown - Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual
rated 5 of 5

I just finished reading this book. It was a Christmas gift. The book's real strength is its focus on natural beauty and enhancing features which some people try to conceal (e.g. freckles, rosacea/redness, wrinkles). I also appreciated the step by instructions. Despite the fact that I'm almost 42, I am a make-up novice. This book would make a very good gift for a teen or a young woman in her 20's. It would also be great for anyone older who's a bit make-up phobic, like me. I never know what to do with the multitudes of products and keep trying different products in hopes of finding something easy to use that "brings out natural beauty."

Primer/ Corrector -Clinique - Redness Solutions Daily Protective Base

I really like this product. The green is ok...it lessens the redness slightly. However, the real benefit of RSDPB is that it is a nonchemical sunscreen that is NOT sticky, white, or too heavy. I agree I would like to see a higher SPF, but at least I know I WILL wear this everyday.

Foundations -Cover FX - Mineral FX Pure Mineral Foundation SPF 15

I absolutely this foundation. It is a nice option for summer or days when I don't want anything heavy on my face. It is lightweight, has good coverage, and can be layered. I have rosacea and very sensitive skin. I get absolutely no irritation or reactions to this product. The quality of the packaging is good, I just hate the format and would rather have a compact (which may not be possible with this formula). It is very important to get the right colour match.
