Bath Treatments -LUSH - Creamy Candy Bubble Bar
rated 5 of 5
Shanrae 5/30/2006 5:17:00 AM

I got this first in a big multi item swap and I didn't know what it even was! I thought maybe it was a weird kind of scrub, so that how I used it. I took about a quater of the bar and applied it like I'd use a salt or sugar scrub. And I loved the results I got--I was thinking "huh, a scrub that actually lathers, too. Wow." Well, then I found out what it's intended purpose was. Since I am not too much of a bath fan (two 6 year old use this same tub, so there are tons of their things around) I couldn't get too excited to use it for bubbles. But, I've been using it as a scrub and I really like it! I've repurchased several times now and just love it. GREAT scent, totally girly and feminine, and for me, incredibly relaxing. I love to use it before bed. Lovely.

Masks -Lancome - Hydra-intense mask
rated 4 of 5
Shanrae 5/19/2006 9:10:00 AM

I'm basically a fan of this product, though I'm not head-over-heals in love with it. I haven't found a lot of moisturizing masks out there, for us dry skinned ladies, that make me terribly happy. This one is the closest yet, however. I personally like the scent. I feel girly and all pampered and stuff when I use it. I leave it on for a good long while--longer than the 5 minutes it states on the bottle. Call me a rebel, I like to leave it longer. I rinse off with warm water and a towel. It fills in the little dryness lines and makes me look "plumper" IN A GOOD WAY in the face. I continue my search for a good hydrating mask, but in the mean time, I'll use my current bottle happily. I wish there was another option to the "would you buy this product again" question, because my answer techincally is "yes, only if I can't find something better".

Masks -Neutrogena - Blackhead Eliminating Treatment Mask [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
Shanrae 5/19/2006 9:03:00 AM

I really love this product! It feels good going on, and it really works! I use it alone, or with some crushed aspirin mixed in. I leave it on for 10-15 minutes and when I rinse, my complexion is much much clearer and those nasty blackheads are so much less noticable. I am picky about what goes on my face. And I have sort of strange skin. It's very, very dry, but suddenly around age 33 or so, I STARTED getting blackheads. Never happened when I was a teenager, nor in my twenties. Weird. So, this is perfect for me. I will always keep some around. Great price, great performance.

Cleansers -L'Oreal - Ideal Balance Foaming CREAM Cleanser [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5

This is another one of those products that's just fine. Nothing bad, but nothing exciting. I like my products to knock my socks off, you know? This one cleans nicely, I like the clay aspect of it. But... yawn. I have nothing critical to point to, because it does what it says it is supposed to do. I just can't get too excited about it.

Treatments -Olay - Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum
rated 4 of 5
Shanrae 5/19/2006 8:54:00 AM

I have affection for Olay products for two very good reasons: 1) they work and 2) they are affordable. This serum is lovely. I really like how it makes my skin feel after a good scrub. It finishes things off well and leaves me feeling super smooth and soft. It doesn't break me out, and isn't too greasy for my skin. To be fair, my skin is so dry that basically nothing is too greasy for it. I like the scent, I like the pump. It's a good solid product, and has become a staple of mine. The only reason I take off one lippie is that I'm not "OH MY GOD!!!" about it. It's just a good solid product that doesn't disappoint.

Scrubs -St. Ives - St. Ives Gentle Apricot Scrub
rated 3 of 5
Shanrae 5/19/2006 8:47:00 AM

St. Ives is a total nostalgia brand for me, because it reminds me of sleepovers in Jr High way way way back in the early 80s. Back then, I thought this stuff was the bomb (we didn't CALL it that back then, of course). I got some recently for old time's sake. Well... meh. It's fine. It is gentle, it exfoliates. But it's nothing special. I probably won't repurchase because there are many other products out there that do the trick. The one great thing about it IS the price. So, I guess if I hit real hard financial times I might go back to this. For me, though, it's just nothing to get excited about.

Hair Styling Tools -Solano - HAI Convertable Flat Iron
rated 5 of 5
Shanrae 8/30/2005 6:39:00 PM

I just got this item as a birthday gift, and tried it today for the first time. Well, I had come here and FREAK OUT because it works so well! I am in love! I've purchased a cheap-o straightener before and pfft. That was a waste of money. The HAI Convertable gave me the hair I get when I leave my hair stylist--shiny, straight and sleek. I used to have to sweat my hiney off in the bathroom attempting to blow out my hair, but the results were never this good, and in a fraction of the time. In 10 minutes my hair looks better than when I spend an hour on it. The iron is insanely easy to use, heats up in no time, feels good in the hand, and gives freaky great results. I am very very pleased. This is one of those products--one that will DO what it says it will and will do it WELL. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to cut time out of their straightening routine. I will certainly update this review if I find it doesn't hold up, but so far... LOVE, pure love.

Masks -Unlisted Brand - Aspirin Mask
rated 5 of 5
Shanrae 7/9/2005 10:02:00 AM

So I am a total aspirin mask devotee. I must add this tip--after experimenting a lot, I have found the best thing for me is to use ANACIN, which is just aspirin with caffeine mixed in. The caffeine is great at firming skin and I find it works even better than just plain aspirin. YMMV of course, but WOW, what a difference for me. I love to do a mask before a special occasion, because it gives my skin a wonderful base for makeup, and leaves me with such even skin, such a great glow that I don't need to use any foundation. LOVE it, will do it for life!

Bath Treatments -LUSH - Blackberry Bath Bomb
rated 5 of 5
Shanrae 6/27/2005 4:35:00 AM

At first I was displeased with this product, but the longer I stayed in the bath, the more I enjoyed it. Then, after I got out, I realized it's real strength: the way you feel for hours after! The scent lingers, my skin feels soooooo soft, and I just feel good. I usually do the whole layering thing, where I'll use a shower gel, then body lotion, maybe a sugar/salt scrub, and a perfume of a scent just to get the scent to last... but with this product, all you need is the bath bomb! I don't need lotion because it leaves my skin feeling so good. I am very pleased and you can bet I'll definitely head back out to LUSH to buy more again and again.

Tools -Shiseido - The Skincare Cleansing Massage Brush
rated 4 of 5
Shanrae 6/9/2005 9:58:00 AM

This product has definitely changed the way I take care of my skin. It's a great item, and I am saving a bundle on cleanser, because I need so little while using this. I love the exfoliating action, and the lathering it helps with... I'm glad I purchased it, and would buy another if anything ever happened to the one I have.

Masks -Queen Helene - Mint Julep Masque
rated 5 of 5
Shanrae 6/9/2005 9:55:00 AM

Well, I felt like my MUA membership was going to get revoked if I didn't try this product. I am SO glad I did. I had an unfortunate event with some old face powder that caused a giant breakout and I figured this was as good a time as any to try this legend. I didn't like it as an overall mask, but WOW! As a spot treatment, overnight, it is a miracle. I'll be a user for life, now. I can't see how I'll ever get through this giant tube (which costs me fractions of a penny per use) but if I do, I'll most definitely repurchase.

Gels/Soaps -Unlisted Brand - Ivory Soap
rated 5 of 5
Shanrae 6/9/2005 9:51:00 AM

I've gone all the way through the price ranges for facial cleansers... and after all that experimentation, the thing that I was searching for was Ivory soap. It's creamy, it rinses well, it gets your skin CLEAN, it smells nice and it does all this while being so cheap it's comical. I use this with my facial brush, lather up and rinse with warm water to open up my pores, then lather up again with the brush, but rinse with cold water to close the pores, and that is it. My face feels and looks exactly how I want it to after a washing. I have found NOTHING that rinses as well as Ivory soap does. No residue. It's a dream product for me. Total Holy Grail. I love it.

Polishes -OPI - Romeo & Joliet
rated 5 of 5
Shanrae 9/18/2004 10:50:00 PM

First of all... it's Romeo and J*O*liet not Juliet. Whew. Glad to get that off my chest! This is a stunning color. I am not normally a nail polish wearer, but this converted me. OPI polishes are good for people like me who can't normally make their own nails look decent. It's a beautiful brownish burgandy with a slight gold shimmer. Perfect for fall. Love it. Will use it again and again!

Masks -Unlisted Brand - Aspirin Mask
rated 5 of 5
Shanrae 9/16/2004 6:09:00 PM

I've been using the aspirin mask for about 6 weeks, and have just waited to post a review to see if the results held up. Well, they DO! I know I've found a skin care regime for life with this. I use about 6 to 8 tablets of aspirin + caffiene tablets (I like the firming action of the caffiene) and soak them for all of 45 seconds. Then I pat it on my face (sometimes mixed with a little Cetaphil) and come and sign on to MUA for like 1/2 hour (sometimes longer). I use the grains to exfoliate before completely rinsing off, and then use a touch more Cetaphil to completely wash it off. Wowzers. So shiny (good shiny, not bad shiny) and ever so soft. My DH who doesn't ever notice things like this, has said to me "Your skin looks so good since you started doing that!" I've told my friends and co-workers and family, and have been hearing all about how they love it, too. I follow up with a nice moisturizer and my skin is crazy soft. Using Perfectionist after the aspirin mask makes my skin out of control soft... the kind of soft where I keep reaching up to touch my face. Awesome. I love it. The price is right, it's fun, and it works. It has me singing a Monkee's tune, with a twist "And then I saw my face, and I'm a believer!"

Skincare - Face -Caudalie - Gentle Buffing Cream
rated 5 of 5
Shanrae 9/7/2004 10:08:00 AM

Totally wonderful. I got this as a sample and it just sat in my drawer unused for the longest time. I am so glad I finally reached for it. Interesting story with my first use--I flaked on the instructions and somehow thought you were supposed to leave it on for awhile before the gentle scrub. So, I put it on my face, and jumped into the shower, and didn't wash it off until several minutes later. My skin felt fantastic!! As I rinsed the product off, I felt like a old dead layer of skin was gently coming off, too. Later on I read the instructions and used it the "normal" way, but the results weren't as great! So... I have been using it the "wrong" way permanently. I have NO idea why it works better that way, but I'm not arguing! This buffing cream, and the aspirin mask, have given me the best looking skin I have had since I was a pre-teen. I wish of course it weren't so pricey, but at least it doesn't disappoint! I guess with the low cost of the aspirin mask, I'm coming out about right :::shrug::: Love it!!
