Powder -Australis - Fresh & Flawless Pressed Powder

I love this pressed powder! I bought this on whim years ago and never really used it. I ended up throwing it out because my 15-year-old self thought it was "too cheap" to be good. Well, recently I've been looking for a good pressed powder to put over the top of my foundation to assist with building it up to full-coverage, as I have a lot of acne scarring/blemishes. I was looking for a cheap, finely-milled powder to replace my Physician's Formula Mineral Wear (which is fantastic, but on the expensive side and doesn't cover all too well). I remembered that this powder actually felt quite good on my skin and provided a decent amount of coverage. After extensively researching online, I decided I'd give it a second chance and I'm so glad I did. There are only three colours in the range (which sucks!) and I am the lightest shade. The powder comes in a sleek black container which is comparable to MAC's powder foundation. The powder provides excellent coverage and really helps even out my skin tone and give me the full coverage I crave without looking at all cakey. The best thing is that it does not break me out at all - YES! This is a fantastic product that is incredibly cheap, costing me $11AU. Try it - you've got nothing to lose!

Lotions/ Creams -Palmers - Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula
rated 5 of 5
ShallenElizabeth 6/20/2011 4:45:00 AM

I absolutely ADORE this! Recently, due to it being winter in Australia, I became really slack with moisturising my body because I was too cold to do it (I know, silly, right?), but then my legs broke out with ingrown hairs galore and my thighs looked awful. So I thought I'd grab my trusty cocoa butter. Well, it's been a week of using it twice a day and all the red marks are completely gone and my skin is looking and feeling great! I love how smooth and soft this product makes your skin feel. I also LOVE the scent! I just want to eat it up. :) The only issue I have with this is the bottle... I find that even though there's quite a large amount of butter left, the pump wont get it out. Oh well, I still adore this stuff!

Eye Shadow -NYX - Jumbo Eye Shadow Pencil - Milk
rated 5 of 5

I really like this product! I've never had a problem with it creasing or anything like that. You only need to stroke it over the lid 2 or 3 times and be sure to blend it out with your finger! It's great as a base to make other colours "pop", or as a highlight colour for your tear duct. Yes, the lid is a little flimsy, but that doesn't concern me at all. I love this!

Liquid -Max Factor - Second Skin
rated 1 of 5

I. Do. Not. Like. This. Foundation. I have incredibly sensitive, acne-prone skin and my skin did not like this at all. Luckily I only put a little bit on one section of my face instead of the whole of my face. Well, the next day in that little part of my forehead where I put the foundation I had accumulated very angry pimples. Ever since then I have stayed well away from Max Factor foundations. What a waste of money.

Eyes -MAC - Paint Pot in Bare Study
rated 4 of 5
ShallenElizabeth 5/24/2011 1:03:00 AM

I really do like this Paint Pot. It has a gorgeous golden shimmer, but it really is quite subtle. It's a great base to build eyeshadow on and really makes the colours hold throughout the day. The only thing I don't like about this is the price - it really is quite expensive. However, this product is proving to last quite a long time. I've had mine for about 2 months now and with regular use, have barely made a dent. Overall, I really like this!

Makeup Brushes -E.L.F. - Studio Stipple
rated 3 of 5
ShallenElizabeth 5/24/2011 12:59:00 AM

This was my first (good) stippling brush. The one I had prior to this would bleed blue/black ink upon every wash - this one never had this problem which was great for me. It hasn't ever shed, leaked ink or anything like it; it is a pretty good brush. The one downside; however, it that it isn't as dense as I'd like it to be. The bristles are quite long and bendy, but that isn't too much of a problem. The only reason why I chose not to repurchase is because I came across Coastal Scents Bionic Buffer Brush, which has a density which I adore. But overall, this is quite a good brush!

Makeup Brushes -Coastal Scents - Synthetic Buffer Brush Large
rated 5 of 5
ShallenElizabeth 5/24/2011 12:53:00 AM

First off, I'll just say that the speed of delivery from Coastal Scents was excellent. I live in Australia, and the shipping from the USA was less than two weeks, so needless to say, that was great! (And I also received a free sample, which was lovely.) On to the brush. When I got it, I was expecting it to smell slightly. It didn't smell at all. The bristles are so soft and dense - the perfect brush to apply liquid foundation! Seriously guys, this brush is great. It didn't break my wallet and I honestly can say it's pretty damn amazing.

Eye Primer -Too Faced - Shadow Insurance, Anti-Crease Eye Shadow Primer
rated 4 of 5
ShallenElizabeth 5/20/2011 1:46:00 AM

Before I begin, just know this is the first eyeshadow primer I have ever purchased, so I can't really compare it to the likes of other primers; however, I really do like this product! It keeps my shadows looking freshly applied all day long with not a crease in sight. Also, the packaging is absolutely gorgeous. The reason I'm giving this a 4 out of 5 is because it is rather expensive for such a small package, but then again, I've been using a tube of it [daily] for a little over a month now, and there is still a lot left. Love this product!

Mascara -Max Factor - False lash effect
rated 5 of 5
ShallenElizabeth 5/20/2011 1:38:00 AM

I LOVE THIS MASCARA! It gives me the most gorgeous, fullest set of lashes! It honestly beats every other mascara I've ever used - and believe me, I have used a lot. I've never had a problem with clumping with this mascara; it separates and defines amazingly. I've been using this for about a year now and have received numerous compliments about how long and beautiful my eyelashes are. I'll admit that when I first bought it I had a little trouble getting used to the size of the applicator (it really is quite large), but I got used to it in no time. The only problem I have with this is that it can dry out rather quickly - after about 3 or more weeks, but I don't mind. This is my HG mascara for sure!

Crème -Maybelline - Dream Smooth Mousse
rated 3 of 5
ShallenElizabeth 5/20/2011 1:21:00 AM

EDIT: I am taking the rating of this foundation down to a 3. If I could, I'd give it a 2.5. Looking back at this foundation, I remember it looking quite orange. My boyfriend actually asked me once why I was putting "the orange stuff" on my face. Also, I did not desire the dewy effect that this foundation used to give; to me, it looked a little too dewy to the point where I began to look very oily. I would absolutely not recommend this foundation for anyone with oily or combination skin; however, girls with dry-very dry skin may not have a problem with this. -------------------------------------------------------------- To start off, my skin is FAR from perfect. I have very annoying acne and almost anything I do makes me break out. Lately I'm using topical benzoyl peroxide (2.5%) and this, of course, has made my skin very dry. So I need a foundation that can cover the acne/acne scars and can provide some sort of hydration. My mother recommended I buy this foundation, and I did, but I had my doubts. Well, as soon as I applied it.. I fell in love! It has a lovely creamy texture and smoothes out my complexion like a dream - pun intended. I wouldn't say this is a full coverage foundation as it is very sheer, but I don't mind that at all. It's definitely very buildable if applied in a certain way [using a stippling brush, I've found, is the best method!]. Pros: Doesn't break my sensitive skin out, Leaves my dry skin looking moisturised, Evens out my complexion, Oil-free. Cons: The packaging. What were you thinking, Maybelline?! The coverage was a little too sheer, but that isn't such a bad thing.
