This bar stinks. It really, really stinks. The pine, burnt-tar smell lingered on my wet hair, slightly on my dry hair (even after using a scented conditioner) and even hung in the air down the hall from my bathroom 6 hours after I took a shower. But it's effective and it actually left my hair looking shinier and more manageable. The product lathers really well if you wet your hair and scalp well, part hair and run the bar down the scalp in 5-6 different spots, and then use fingers to massage it into the scalp. I leave it on for 10 minutes while I exfoliate my body, then rinse very well and use a light conditioner. My moderately-thick yet fly-away hair is shinier and less fly-away than when using other shampoos. My itchy scalp is relieved and flaking is greatly reduced. I would def purchase this again, but I would not use it every day or your hair will smell bad. I use it 3 times a week max.
Lotions/ Creams -Mario Badescu - Papaya Body Lotion
Sarita360 5/17/2009 4:15:00 PM
I use this with the Mario Badescu AHA Body Soap for my keratosis pilaris and occasional body acne. This combination has been so effective at easing my skin conditions that it is all I use, even though I am a product junkie. The lotion applies thick, but it absorbs without stinging and is not too heavy for summer use, plus the scent is light enough that it is not overwhelming in the summer heat. I imagine it will be equally good in the winter, because it is thick and moisturizing. This lotion has effectively reduced my skin conditions both in texture and appearance. It is more expensive than the AHA Body Soap but a little goes a longer way, so I am satisfied with the value of the product.
Edited to add: This lotion has a fine shimmer that I don't notice until I am out in the sunlight.
Gels/Soaps -Mario Badescu - AHA Botanical Body Soap
Sarita360 5/17/2009 4:10:00 PM
I have difficult body skin- keratosis pilaris on arms, thighs, and rear as well as occasional cystic acne on thighs and rear. This cleanser combats both effectively without drying out my already super-dry skin too much, and it has a fresh citrus scent that is enjoyable but not so strong that it clashes with my perfume. The trick is to get your body all wet, then lather up the gel on a shower pouf and TURN OFF the shower to allow the gel time to sit on your skin and work. Beginning at arms and legs, gently lather all over your body, taking extra care with elbows, feet, legs, arms and back. I then let it sit for a minute before doing "sensitive" areas and turning water back on to rinse off. This has been so successful in reducing the severity of both my KP and body acne. I find that I do need a moisturizer after for my dry skin, so I use Mario Badescu Papaya Body Lotion, which also contains acids and enzymes to smooth the skin, but I can imagine a normal or oily skin would be left feeling quite healthy with this cleanser alone. Cons: I do find I go through this more quickly than other gels, but the price of $14 for 16 oz. is more economical than I expected so I am happy.
Very delicate, slightly sweet clean fresh scent. I do see how it could fit a man or a woman, it's unobtrusive and light. It is almost identical to Mustela's Musti baby cologne to me, but ever so slightly stronger and about 2x as expensive.
Very rich, heavy body cream whose moisturizing qualities really last. I use it for hands, body, feet- sure it's expensive, but you don't use that much at a time and it comes in a big 10oz tub. I'm not crazy about the scent- somewhat masculine and woodsy.
Moisturizers -La Mer - Creme de la mer moisturizer
Sarita360 12/13/2007 12:13:00 PM
Creme de la Mer: In a word, it is rich. This is a very thick, rich, heavy cream that seals in moisture and soothes skin. I use it as a night cream after all other products, to seal in Kinerase Ultimate Night Moisturizer and add the extra moisture I desperately need. I am young, with no wrinkles, but incredibly dry skin that often has a rough texture. CDLM smooths my skin and gives me a huge surge of moisture, but it does leave me a bit shiny so I generally don't use it in the daytime. Stay far away if your skin ever has problems absorbing heavy products as this will be too much for you, but if you are looking for a cream that gives a lot of moisture then this is it.
Deodorants -Fresh - Roll-on Sugar, Deodorant and Antiperspirant
Sarita360 7/17/2007 11:14:00 AM
Oh my gosh! I had a horrible experience with this product. I used it for a full week before deciding to give up, it smells wonderful and I like how it applies but it did nothing to control odor for me! :( It was as bad as if I had worn no deodorant at all, I tried a thin layer, then a thick layer, then letting it dry, nothing worked! In the beginning it was great, by the end of the day I stunk so bad. This just did not work for me, I had to go back to drugstore deodorant.
After reading busybaker1's review below I'm not sure if I have an original bottle (mine isn't thick and doesn't say "New Formula" on the bottle) or not Anyway, great lotion!! My skin is super-dry and this is a mild lotion so I reapply often, but it leaves my sensitive skin soft and comfortable. Absorbs fast and completely, no sticky feeling. The scent goes great with my baby perfumes. It's always hard to find a lotion that smells nice with the great variety of baby perfumes that I wear, but this one is soft enough and slightly sweet, fades a bit but still lingers, so it goes with all of them :) That's enough to make it HG in my opinion
Lip Gloss -Laura Geller - Color Confections Lip Gloss
Sarita360 1/9/2007 6:57:00 PM
This review is for the 3 lip glosses that come in the Laura Gellar Color Confections set
Great sheer lip gloss with a nice consistency. Each comes in a small seperate pot that has a 2 compartments- the lip gloss in the top with a see-through window, and a mirror and mini applicator brush in the bottom.
These are nice glosses, sheer and not plastic-shiny. The container is excellent for travelling, I carry them in my pockets when I don't want to have a purse with me.
Strawberry Frosting ("soft pinky rose"- light pink, neutral lip gloss)
Gels/Soaps -Softsoap - Pure Cashmere Moisturizing Body Wash
Sarita360 12/28/2006 1:16:00 PM
A new body wash from Softsoap, the label says: "Extra dry skin...softening with cashmere extract and moisturizing cream...Moisture-rich formula hydrates dry skin...Silky soft for touchable skin...Dermatologist-tested soap-free" Overall: Not bad. It smells nice, lathers well, feels slippery-smooth on the skin and when it rinses my skin still has that smooth feeling and I feel fresh, clean and soft. However, it is NOT moisturizing enough for my dry, dry skin :( I definitely need to follow with an appropriately heavy moisturizer as usual. Probably better suited to those who have mildly dry skin, or normal skin that wants a moisturizing boost.
I give it a 4 because it leaves me so silky soft, smells nice, absorbs quickly and comfortably and is overall a great lotion. I really like it in general.
I have to deduct a point because on the label it says "dry skin lotion" in smaller letters, however it was not as moisturizing as I had hoped. My skin is very dry so I assumed that this would help, but it was only somewhat moisturizing to me. Now I alternate using this with a heavier lotion. ***EDIT*** This lotion gave me a horrid allergic reaction
Gels/Soaps -Skindecent - Foaming Bath Butter in Strawberry Fields
Sarita360 4/28/2006 9:02:00 AM
I wish we could give half-points. This product is not perfect but it deserves a 4.5
The bath butter does yeild a ton of lather when used with a bath pouf, and I love swirling the pouf around the top of the jar. It cleanses well and smells great! Strawberry Fields smells like a strange fresh/canned strawberry comination. Like canned strawberries used for dessert filling? This smells like the canned strawberries without the syrup.
My only complaint is that for some reason, it's a bit too strong to use on my personal areas- arms, legs, body are fine but under my arms it makes me a little too sensitive.
The Aroma Tarts are very cute- they are all decorated to look like the scent. Lemon Cream Pie has a wax lemon slice and "whipped" topping wax decoration, Cherry Coconut Cream Cake has two round embedded wax cherries and wax coconut shavings, etc. So the Aroma Tarts would be great for gift-giving just because they are so pretty.
The Supreme Scent tarts are regular tarts, no fancy decoration but they do have good scent. They also cost less.
I will be reviewing the different scents as I try them:
Luscious Lemon Cream Pie- " Sugar Coated Pie crust, Fresh Squeezed Lemons, and Sweet Whipped Cream" - this is a great tart but foody scent. The top note is a tart and sweet lemon with a bit of creaminess and an underlying note of baked pie crust. The scent lasted through 2 whole tealights. A-
Pineapples in Paradise- This smells like a pineapple upside-down cake, lovely fragrance, not too strong. B+
Blackberry-This was really kind of gross. It smelled like a good tart juicy blackberry through the package but as it melted a very fake sweet plastic note came out that made me gag. I'm hoping that this was just a dud or was somehow contaminated. F
Moisturizers -Yves Rocher - Night Shift Pro-Retinol Vegetal night treatment
Sarita360 4/5/2006 6:09:00 PM
Great product...I am 21, dry but acne-prone skin with poor texture. This isn't my first retinol product - I tried Green Cream but it did nothing but leave me red, peeling, dry, irritated and flaky for months
I've been using Night Shift every night, after cleansing just before bed, for 2 weeks and my skin has shown noticeable improvement.
1) The texture of the little bumps across my cheeks is smoother
2)My skin looks brighter, less dull
3) I have not had any new breakouts - Old breakout marks are still slightly discolored but they are completely smooth now and easily covered by concealor.
Overall I am happy with this cream. I do not have any wrinkles yet and this cream is supposed to prevent wrinkles. S
Wonderful product, my hair is dry but a bit fly-away and this leaves it feeling so normal- not to greasy, not too dry and also very shiny
The smell is fantastic, I don't like the Bluberry shampoo (SO says it smells like "salive"??) and the Strawberry is OK but a bit too fake. This one just smells fresh and pretty.
