Mascara -Lumene - Blueberry curl mascara
SamanthaCB 10/3/2009 11:54:00 PM
I really like this mascara. It keeps the lashes soft, is lightweight, adds length, adds some volume. The brush has two sizes of rubber/silicone type bristles, short on two sides, longer on two sides. It separates the lashes well, so no clumping. It also does not flake, or smudge, and can last all day. It is easy to remove with makeup remove or just a foaming face wash. I like the clean, blue tube, which clicks shut when you close it. It holds a curl pretty well, but after a few hours my lashes starting uncurling a little. This is the only complaint I have for this mascara and its not really that big of a problem. I would definitely get this again. The only store I have found it at is Ulta (apparently its at Target too since I see an ad for it on the side of the page here on MUA).

Mascara -Estee Lauder - TURBOLASH-All Effects Motion Mascara
SamanthaCB 10/3/2009 11:47:00 PM
The Estee Lauder Turbolash mascara wand starts vibrating while it is being unscrewed to open it, which I think may waste some of the battery life (with some other vibrating mascaras, there is a small conveniently located button to push that makes it vibrate). The brush is a classic, tapered brush with many stiff bristles. I think the brush worked pretty well. The formula is thin and light weight. This is a great lengthening mascara, and it really defines your lashes- no clumping. However, it does not add any volume, and it claims to be curling but it actually made the curl in my lashes droop a little (curled them before applying the mascara). No flaking, a little smudging in the corner of my eye towards the end of the day. I think this is a very average mascara, but its sold at a very high price.

Hair -Phyto - Phytophanere Hair/Nails supplement
SamanthaCB 10/3/2009 11:34:00 PM
My hair has been thinning and becoming a lot more dry, so I decided to try these since I hear a lot about them. It made my skin break out like mad. I am surprised only a few other people have had this problem with Phytophanere. I used to have pretty clear skin, but only a day after taking this for the first time I had two new pimples. I thought maybe it was a coincidence, but as I continued taking it my acne continued to get worse. I finally decided to stop taking these even though I still had some supplements left. It has been a few weeks since I stopped and my skin is finally starting to make improvements. It did make the length of my hair grow faster, but it did not make me grow new hair, and it did not help prevent my hair loss at all. So the only good thing was my small amount of hair growing longer, faster. The bad was that it made me get acne (which hasn't been a problem for me in years), and it did not help stop hair loss, my hair is still thinning a lot more than it normally does. It also made my arm and leg hairs grow back a lot quicker. Obviously, I did not like this product. It seems like others have had success with it, sadly I didn't.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Exact Eyelights Eye-Brightening Mascara - Black Pearl
SamanthaCB 10/3/2009 11:25:00 PM
The brush is average sized, rubber bristles just like the regular Lash Exact. There is just a hint of shimmer in these mascaras, but it is not noticeable to anyone but me when I wear it. The formula seems to be thinner than the regular lash exact. It adds decent length and a little volume, but flakes after a few hours of wear.

Mascara -Bourjois - Effet Liner Mascara
SamanthaCB 5/27/2009 4:31:00 PM
I was really sad that stores were not carrying Bourjois Volume Clubbing (which I really like) anymore, so I decided to try Effect Liner Mascara. It does add a lot of volume, but it can get clumpy as the bristles are short and don't really separate the lashes. The lengthening was mediocre. Also, I curled my lashes and used Shiseido primer before applying this and it made the curl droop. I like how the brush, which is one of those rubber spikey kind, has different sized bristles, it made it easy to apply it to every lash; but overall it was not too great.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Colossal Waterproof
SamanthaCB 5/27/2009 4:23:00 PM
I really like a lot of things about this mascara: the brush, the length it delivers, the moderate volume, and the fact that it is waterproof, does not smudge, and keeps lashes curled. It can get clumpy, but wiping the brush and waiting for a minute between layers can prevent this. The only thing I really do not like is that it never feels like it is completely dry. I have been using this for over a week now always applying it in the morning; I once touched my eye in the afternoon, so about 8 hours after applying it, and it made my lashes clump together because the mascara was still "sticky" 8 hours after applying it. It would really be perfect if it were not for the never dry feeling.

Mascara -Lancome - L -extreme Mascara
SamanthaCB 2/23/2009 12:43:00 PM
Lancome L'Extreme is a great lengthening mascara, and it adds a little volume too. I really like the brush; the bristles are very hard, and thin. When I first saw the brush I though it would clump a lot but actually this mascara never clumps at all. It is a good mascara for a natural look. Several layers can result in a more dramatic look (but it gets to look a little plastic if you put on too many layers). It does not smudge or flake and comes off with face cleanser. The only thing I do not like about this mascara is that when first applied, it looks great, but about half an hour later, the curl completely falls flat and I am left with my stick strait lashes back in their original position pointing downward into my eye. I am definitely going to try the waterproof version, since wp formulas hold a curl better.

Mascara -Make Up For Ever - Smoky Lash Extra Black Mascara
SamanthaCB 1/29/2009 6:31:00 PM
I was excited to try this after reading rave reviews for it. To keep things simple: Pros: -super black glossy color - adds a decent amount of volume, not over the top, but noticeable. -decent lengthening (not the best I've seen but pretty good) -stays on all day/night, looks the same when you take it off as when you put it on -maintains a curl (for me it did not make a curl when I used it, but if I curled my lashes first, it did keep the curl all day) Cons: -flakes, at first it was just a little flaking, but now that the tube is 1.5 (one and a half) months old its flaking a lot more, I have specs of mascara on my cheeks after a few hours. -does not lengthen as much as I was hoping it would -can be clumpy, but it helps a lot to blot the brush before using it The tube is simple sleek black plastic. The brush is slightly curved and the bristles seem like thick pieces of plastic that have been cut so the ends are flat. When removing Smoky Lash, most of it came off with just cleanser, but I do end up using eye makeup remover usually to get it off. Overall this is definitely one of the better mascaras I have tried. I would consider repurchasing it in the future, but for now I wouldn't because with mascaras I'm always looking for something better!

Mascara -Shiseido - The Makeup Distinguish Mascara
SamanthaCB 1/16/2009 2:04:00 AM
This mascara does do what it claims: "natural looking fullness" with "no clumping" (direct quotes from the product description). These seem to be the only positive qualities though. I curl my lashes before using any mascara, Distinguish makes the curl droop a lot more than you would expect from a waterproof mascara. It also doe not lengthen at all (but does not really claim to either). The volume is natural and it does make the lashes look defined (as opposed to clumped together). The overall effect is very natural, too natural for my short strait little lashes. It really is waterproof and holds up all day. I was able to remove it with Lancome bi-facil makeup remover, a cotton ball, and some rubbing.

Mascara -Bourjois - Bourjois Pump Up the Volume Waterproof (Black)
SamanthaCB 1/12/2009 12:12:00 AM
I usually like Bourjois mascaras. but this was a huge waste and total garbage. It takes forever to actually get product onto your lashes, it does not lengthen at all, and adds only a little volume. The dark black color and the fact that it holds a curl (as most waterproof mascaras do) are the only good points. I think it is supposed to smell rosy but its a little off. It starts flaking a lot after a while too. It is also truly waterproof, but made my lashes, stiff, spider-y, and dry. I only used it twice before throwing it away because of the bad quality.

Mascara -Clinique - Lash Power
SamanthaCB 12/21/2008 8:45:00 PM
I love how easy tubing mascaras are to remove. After trying my friend's lash power I decided to get one of my own. This one comes in a sleek tube and has a tiny football shaped brush that is very easy to maneuver. You have to brush the wand through several times to coat all of the lashes. Also, it is hard to fix mistakes with this because adding a layer on a dried layer creates horrible flaking and once it dries it really doesn't budge. It adds some length and a little volume but it definitely intended for a natural look. The color is nothing special and when its not applied very carefully it makes the curl in my lashes fall completely strait. It flakes a little but of course does not smudge. I wore it poolside and after getting splashed a little I checked the mirror and there were quite a few flakes of it under my eye. I would most likely not repurchase it because I like experimenting with mascaras and was not too impressed, but it is pretty good.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Telescopic
SamanthaCB 12/19/2008 3:55:00 AM
I mostly bought this mascara becuase I thought the telescope shaped tube was adorable, and because I'm a mascara addict. It is a fairly good lengthening mascara and adds volume too, but if you are not careful it will be really clumpy volume only. The brush is almost identical to that of Giorgio Armani Maestro mascara, the brush is shaped like a rectangular box with rows of wide set teeth along the 4 edges (this may be a new design, it said "new brush" on the package). The formula of Telescopic is a lot more liquid and also feels like it is never really dry when wearing it (a little sticky but also soft, at least it doesn't create crunchy lashes). I would not suggest trying this mascara unless you own a good lash comb because it basically is like dipping your lashes in formula then it needs to e brushed out. It can hold a curl and the carbon black color L'Oreal makes is really a true black. It is an okay mascara, takes effort to create a nice look with it.

Mascara -Estee Lauder - Sumptuous
SamanthaCB 12/11/2008 5:14:00 PM
This is a good mascara if you are looking for a lot of volume. It also adds length but not as much as it does volume. It does lift at the base of the lashes, but for my stubborn, thin, strait lashes it was not so successful at holding a curl. The curl I obtained from curling and using primer would drop more than halfway down after applying this mascara. I found that if I apply it really lightly the curl will hold, but my lashes won't look any longer or thicker. So for me I can only have big but mostly strait lashes or smaller curled lashes with Sumptuous. It does not smudge or flake and comes in a gold tube instead of the traditional EL blue. The bristles are made of both soft thin/fine bristles and thick/wide hard almost plastic feeling bristles. It is good but not HG material.

Mascara -Lancome - Powerhouse Oscillation
SamanthaCB 11/26/2008 1:20:00 AM
Ever since I missed the one day sneak peek day to purchase this mascara I was waiting anxiously to get a chance to try it. Well after finally getting one and trying it on many occasions, I have realized it was not worth it. It does hold a curl and can also slightly make one which is impressive. It adds a little length and a little volume. The bristles on the plastic brush are spaced really far apart so the vibrating motion is really the only thing that works to separate your lashes. The vibrating motions are very small and you can not really feel it, I think it would be scary if the brush movements were more prominent though. I had to stand there with the brush in my lashes and holding the vibration button for a really long time to actually get my lashes to look decent. The result was just my normal lashes but curled and darker. This was definitely not worth $34 as the results were similar to some ds mascaras.

Mascara -Giorgio Armani - Maestro Mascara
SamanthaCB 11/23/2008 9:05:00 PM
I have this in the black obsidian color, which is a deep dark glossy black. It adds a lot of volume and length; the brush takes some getting used to. It is a rectangular box shaped brush and has combs (wide set teeth) on the 4 edges; and it is very flexible/wobbly. The brush is almost identical to L'Oreal Telescopic mascara. My curl stayed in place all day (curled and primed before using this) and my lashes were really soft after using Maestro. Especially when the tube is new, the brush deposits a lot of product onto your lashes so I always end up having to comb them out afterwards since it tends to clump lashes together and I prefer a more defined lash look. It helps to wipe a little product of the brush before using it. It does not smudge and doesn't flake much, though sometimes if worn for a whole day I do see some flakes. I think it works better now that its about a month old than when I first opened it. This is a good mascara for bold lashes but I wouldn't say it is perfect. It used to only be available at one store in my area, but I recently noticed it is now on the Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus websites, which is convenient. I couldn't describe the brush very well, so for a picture of the brush up close click continued
