Pressed Powders -Maybelline - Dream Matte Pressed Powder
RosieJ 5/9/2013 6:02:00 PM
I tried Maybelline Dream Matte Powder after getting the recommendation from a few ladies on the makeup board. I absolutely love it. The powder is very finely milled and doesn't look cakey when applied. It also doesn't settle into my fine lines which is a big plus at my age (56). I am using this over Cover Girl's Outlast 3 in 1 foundation and it gives my face an airbrushed look. I bought it in the shade Sand-Medium which is a good match for my NC30 skin tone.
Lip Gloss -Wet 'n' Wild - MegaLast long lasting lipcolor
RosieJ 4/24/2013 1:56:00 PM
This has to be the worst lip gloss I ever tried. The light pink shimmer color looked so pretty in the tube but when I tried it on my lips I felt like I had set them in cement. It dried out my lips horribly to the point where I had to scrub the product off with my electric toothbrush! Luckily I got this product on a buy one get one 50% off sale so I didn't feel bad when I had to throw it in the trash.
I am so in love with Angel. From the first time I tested a sample I was hooked on this perfume. This fragrance has vanilla, sandalwood, and patchouli, with lower notes of fresh citrus, melons, peaches, and plums. I wear this scent the most and can't understand how anybody could find Angel offensive. Its an expensive perfume but well worth the investment.
Gels/Soaps -Dove - Sensitive Skin Unscented Beauty Bar
RosieJ 9/23/2012 2:50:00 PM
I love Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar. I have been using it for many years and haven't found anything that works better for removing makeup. It also leaves your face feeling clean. I prefer the unscented formula because I have allergies to a lot of perfumes. This product doesn't irritate my skin at all.
This is by far my favorite fall and winter MAC lipstick. It is a beautiful berry shade with gold shimmer.and goes well with my NC30 skin tone. I have repurchased this lipstick several times.
Mascara -Jordana - Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara
RosieJ 9/10/2012 5:48:00 PM
I started using this mascara three weeks ago and so far I am loving everything about it. It makes my lashes super long and thick and doesn't smudge or flake off. It also washes off pretty easily at night with my regular Dove Beauty Bar. Highly recommend.
Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous Mascara in Blackest Black
RosieJ 8/12/2012 9:33:00 AM
I just threw my L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara in the trash after testing it out for 2 weeks. This mascara did give me alot of volume and length and I liked the fact that it was very black. The problem was that it smeared something awful on me. Everytime I would look in the mirror I would have two black eyes. It also was very difficult to wash off at night, even using cold cream. I went back to using Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume Mascara which isn't quite HG and I just ordered Jordana Extreme Lash to try out. Hopefully the Jordana mascara will work out beter for me then L'Oreal Voluminous.
For the past 6 months I have been wearing Estee Lauder Double Wear and thought I had found my HG foundation. Out of curiosity, I decided to try this new Revlon product because alot of women were raving about it on MUA. So far I am loving this foundation. Its looks even better than ELDW on my face, much more natural with a soft focus (airbrushed) finish. It stood up to the heat and humidity and didn't leave my face oily after a few hours, like lots of other foundations do. It also didn't settle into my fine lines or cause my dry areas to flake, .I bought the shade Warm Golden which is a very good match for my NC30 complexion coloring. At less than half the price of ELDW, I will definately be using Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation in its place.
Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter in Pink Truffle
RosieJ 7/3/2012 2:52:00 PM
My first Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter was the Pink Truffle shade. When I tried it on it turned out to be a perfect MLBB color shade shade. Medium nude/pink in color. It applies just like butter and leaves my lips feeling moisturized. It doesn't last very long but I don't mind reapplying. I'm glad I bought a second one for backup because I'll be wearing this lipstick alot.
I have been using Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat for about a year now. I never experienced any shrinkage or any other trouble with the product. It dries my nail polish super fast and leaves a nice shine. I love this product except for the fact that it gets quite thick half way through the bottle where I need to add thinner. All in all one of my favorite manicure items
This is my new HG foundation. For years I was on the hunt for long lasting foundation geared for older women and oily/combo skin types. This is by far the best I tried . I'm 54 years old and this foundation makes my skin look flawlesss when applied with my Elf flat top powder brush. It also looks good applied with fingers. I used the color matcher guide on the Estee Lauder website to find my color shade which is 3W1 Tawny (MAC NC30 for reference). This is the only makeup i tried that doesn't turn my face into an oil slick after 3 or 4 hours wear. Its also does not accenuate lines or dry patches. Lasts all day. I would definately repurchase
Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup with SoftFlex SPF 15 Normal/Dry Skin
RosieJ 8/5/2011 3:38:00 AM
I've been using the Colorstay normal/dry formula for about two years now and thought it was time I write a review on this excellent product. First of all, I have very oily skin with dry flaky patches on my forehead , nose and chin area. I'm also 54 years old with some fine lines and wrinkles. I tried the Colorstay oily/combo formula first but I found it too drying. The dry skin formula works much better for me as its doesn't accentuate my flakies or settle into the fine lines and give off a cakey appearance. This makeup has a very nice, smooth, matte finish that makes my skin look healthy and not overly made up. I found that it looks best applied with a foundation brush. It is medium to full coverage and lasts all day. I've tried a variety of high end and drugstore foundations and I keep coming back to this one as the best of the bunch. I already have two bottles of this in the house but will buy more when I run out. Hopefully Maybelline will put a pump on this bottle soon, that is the only thing I can find wrong with the product. For reference I am NC30 in MAC foundations are wear Fresh Beige in the Colorstay foundation.
Lips -Mary Kay - Signature Lipstick in Cinnamon Twist
RosieJ 8/4/2011 8:48:00 PM
Yes, I was invited to a Mary Kay party and had to buy something so I choose this lipstick after trying it on. I don't regret the purchase at all. As it turns out this quickly became one of my favorite lipsticks. Its a cinnamon color (not too brown) shade that looks nice with my NC30 skintone and medium reddish/brown hair. I find the lipstick to be very creamy and it seems to last longer than most. I will definately buy a few more on eBay because I think Mary Kay discontinued this color.
On my lips MAC Twig shows up as a pinky/mauve/brown color shade. The formula is very dry and tends to make my lips looked chapped when applied..(Maybe I got a bad tube, who knows) The only way I can make this lipstick work for me is if I use MAC Viva Glam V lipgloss on top. With gloss it looks nice MLBB..
Foundations -Maybelline - Instant Age Rewind- radiant firming makeup
RosieJ 8/3/2011 10:32:00 AM
I was using Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Cream foundation before it was discontinued and was hoping that this new radiant, firming makeup would be a good substitute. The coverage wasn't the same but I liked this foundation too.. It applies very easily with fingers or a damp sponge and dries fairly quickly to a smooth, natural, dewy finish. The coverage seems to be very sheer but this formula does a good job of covering my redness. I also noticed, in bright sunlight, that it doesn't accentuate my fine lines and dry spots. It looks like my skin but better. The only thing I am concerned about is that my face will get greasy after a few hours wear, which is a problem for me no matter what makeup I use. So I have to blot or use powder to freshen up the look. For reference, the medium beige color shade was a good match for my summer tanned skin (MAC NC40) and I will probably use Sandy Beige (MAC NC30) in the winter. Update: I found after a week's use that the coverage is a little too sheer for me and can't be built up to medium. It also doesn't last all day like my Revlon Colorstay foundation. So I deducted 1 lippie for coverage and wear.
