Mascara -Rimmel - Sexy Curves
Pocketface 4/6/2010 12:01:00 PM
I've read a lot of mixed reviews for this stuff but was quite impressed, personally. I didn't expect it to give my bone straight lashes 'Sexy Curves' to begin with so wasn't disappointed when it failed to deliver on that. Other than that I thought this stuff was great; Absolutely no clumps whatsoever, good even coating that is quite subtle but can be built up for a more defined effect, and is really easy to remove. The brush makes it easier to get those corner lashes that I always seems to have issues with. Despite what others say about flaking I haven't noticed any of that at all. If it didn't make outrageous claims on the packaging about providing curves I'd give this 5 lippies. But I am a bitter and cynical consumer, and thus can only give it 4 lippies.

Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup with SoftFlex SPF 6 for Combination/Oily Skin

I have been putting off trying this for a while, solely because it's pretty expensive by may standards ($38AU, fortunately I got it on sale but still). Negatives: Price, obviously. The bottle could also do with some sort of pump to conserve the product. It has a bit of an odd smell, and dries rather quickly. Because of this application takes a little longer and there is a bit of a technique to it. The colour selections aren't that crash hot either, but not tooooo bad. Positives: Once you get the application sorted out, this stuff actually looks natural! For something with a heavy cover I was expecting it to look and feel heavier, but it feels so lightweight. Also, it doesn't budge. Not only does it stand up to the humidity, heat and wind of Australia, but also water, sweat, and my own oily skin. The matte finish actually lasts, too. At the end of the day my skin is a little dewy, but defiantly not oily. When i scratch my face it stays there, when I hug someone they don't have an imprint of my face on their clothes like with Maybelleinne Dream Matte Mousse. Overall, very, very impressed....and it does take a lot to impress me! Will defiantly be buying this again, just hope they change the packaging and add more colours.

Concealers -Revlon - ColorStay Under Eye Concealer

Not impressed, but it's not terrible. I was so excited to get this as I LOVE the ColorStay foundation but was left underwhelmed. Gave me decent coverage and stays all day, doesn't get all liney like some other do. But you get so little for what you pay for, the pen thing is kinda gimmiky and it's pretty hard to apply properly. It's sticky and is hard to blend. I'll keep using it for now, but won't be going back to it

Foundations -Maybelline - Dream Matte Mousse

I got this on sale with the concealer, which I rather liked. And at first I liked this foundation, too. Good colour match, so easy to blend, loved the consistency, covered what I wanted to cover. You get quite a bit for the price, too. Loved the finish, matte but still quite natural. I didn't need to use a lot of it so it's lasted me quite a while. Anyway, after wearing it for a few hours we had a fight and broke up. I have pretty oily skin, and live In Australia where it can get stinking hot. This stuff does not stand up to these sorts of pressures. Get it wet or sweat and it basically drips off your skin. Although it kept me matte, it became very heavy and sort of gluggy on my skin. It was like an oil slick to the touch, and rubbed off on everything. It felt so hot on my skin, and almost like it was melting, Hey, it probably was. I wore this stuff for about 3 weeks, trying every different application method known to man, but it just couldn't keep that great flawless finish after I left my house. Maybe it's just my oily skin. Maybe it's just not built for warmer climates. Either way, it seems a lot of people swear by this stuff, but it left me unimpressed. Won't be buying it again.

Concealers -Maybelline - Dream Mousse Concealer [DISCONTINUED]

Pretty good. Got it on sale with the foundation (that I wasn't too impressed with, but that's another story, kids...) Positives: covers redness very, very well. Easy to apply with a little concealer brush, and easy to blend. Great for pimples and general redness. Easy to put just a very light coverage, or easy to put a heavier coverage on, depending on what you need. Negatives: not so great under the eyes. I have crazy dark circles (genetic, unfortunately), and this stuff doesn't cover them very well. Also It doesn't stay put under the eyes, and it's obvious you're wearing concealer in that area. Tends to cling to dry patches, but I don't often have that problem. I'd buy it again for blemishes, but don't put it under your eyes.

Foundations -Rimmel - Rimmel Cool Matte 16hr Foundation

My god, I hated this stuff. I could rant for hours, but will try not to. First, I'll try to get some positives.... I did manage to get pretty much my exact colour match, which is rare and very exciting (I'm fair with olivey-yellowish undertones, hard to match). And the 'cooling' sensation when you first put it on is quite nice....That's about it. And now the negatives. This stuff dries so damn fast it is literally impossible to blend. After it had dried if you try to blend it just sort of flakes off. Also, it just doesn't look natural. Although it was a good colour match, it just looked like I had foundation plastered onto my skin. It's not like I caked it on either, I generally try to use as little foundation as possible and prefer a more natural look. No matter how I applied it (fingers, brushes, sponges, etc etc) it looked splotchy and terrible. Also, try putting concealer on your spots before putting it on. It clings to the concealer in a very obvious blob. Try putting blush over it and it just will not blend. Try to hard to blend it and it flakes off. That colour match I was so excited about? Didn't last long. After maybe 15 minutes it started to do something very strange....it went paler, but more orangey. What. The. Hell. I looked washed out and sickly. Good luck with this stuff in warmer climates. As soon as you start to sweat or get it wet it goes streaky and just...gross. Ultimately, I couldn't even wear this stuff outside of the house. I bought it on a whim when I saw it on sale after I ran out of my old foundation that I wasn't too happy with anyway. The only time it ever saw the light of day was when I wore it, with the greatest sense of shame, to the shops to get a new foundation. Terrible stuff.
