Eye Shadow -Hourglass - Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Gypsy
rated 5 of 5
Peacelover18 6/18/2011 1:13:00 AM

After falling in love with the Suede duo, I reluctantly decided to try out the other neutral eyeshadow duo in the Hourglass line. I say reluctantly because I was sure that lightning would never strike twice.

Can you guess where I'm going with this? Yep, that's right - it did.

This duo is just as amazing as Suede. The colors are a light peachy cream, and a bronzy brown that is surprisingly not too warm for my cool skin. I swatched some of my other bronze-y shadows next to it to compare, and the 2 closest are MAC Sable and Twinks - the Gypsy shade is somewhere in between the two. Together, the cream and the bronze is one of the most perfect color combinations for my green eyes I've ever encountered. I just add a little bronze liner to the waterline (I love MAC Teddy Eye Kohl for this - a near-perfect match for the bronze color in the duo) on the waterline and some mascara and I'm good to go. Both of the colors have a slight shimmer - they are not quite frosty, but just a step above a satin finish.

The texture is just divine - buttery smooth and so, so soft. Unlike other brands with really soft shadows (Stila, Lorac) the soft texture does not come at the expense of color payoff and blendability. I literally only use 1 brush with these duos - my MAC 217 works perfectly for both applying the color to the lid and blending it into the crease. There is some fallout with these shadows but it's not enough to bother me. They wear great over Urban Decay Primer Potion with no creasing or fading all day.

The packaging is very luxe, and also pretty unnecessary but as long as they contain such perfect shadows I couldn't care less. In short, Gypsy Eyeshadow Duo is amazing, and you need it in your life. Yes, it is an investment at $38 a pop, but it's absolutely worth it. Not only would I repurchase, but if this product was ever discontinued I'd buy a truck-load of backups (and I NEVER buy backups, Ever.).

For reference, I am lighter than NW15 - I wear Make Up For Ever Face & Body Foundation in #38, Carmindy by Sally Hansen Your Skin Foundation in Porcelain, and Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer in Porcelain. I have green eyes.

Eye Shadow -Guerlain - 29 Rue de Sevres Ecrin 6 Couleurs Palette
rated 4 of 5
Peacelover18 2/26/2011 6:11:00 AM

I am lighter than NW15 and neutral-toned but I lean towards cool colors. I wear Make Up For Ever Face & Body foundation in #38. I have green eyes and brown hair.
This palette was released in the fall of 2010 as a permanent addition to the Guerlain line. The palette contains 6 eyeshadows - a white pearl, a warm, light taupe grey, a dark brown taupe with red/pink shimmer, a smoky charcoal grey, a soft powder blue, and a dark, matte taupe brown. All of the colors except the liner (the dark taupe brown) have shimmer - the smoky, charcoal grey has the most obvious shimmer, while the others have a more delicate gleam on the eye. Each color is very soft and smooth on application. Even the liner shadow, which often in palettes can be chalky unless used wet, applies amazingly as a shadow. The shadows are all very sheer when first applied, but they can layer beautifully to a more pigmented finish. However, let me just say that if you are any darker than. say an NW/NC25, these colors are not going to show up well on you. I would suggest going for one of the bolder palettes in the line, like Place Vendome or Champs Elysees. I love the combination of colors in this palette - they can be used for an everyday neutral eye or a soft smoky eye, and the powder blue can add a nice touch of color to mix it up (I like to use the blue in the inner corners - really brightens up the eyes!).
The lasting power of these shadows is decent over Urban Decay Primer Potion with no creasing, but I do notice that they fade a bit after a couple hours. The packaging of these palettes is a true work of art - they are made of metal and have a decent weight to them. It comes with a nice-sized mirror and a small double-ended brush - one side a fluffy shadow brush and the other is a flat liner brush. The brush is not amazing quality, but better than what you'll find in most palettes and it works in a pinch.
Each of these palettes are $84. Is it worth the money? I would say yes, if you really want it. Is this palette absolutely necessary? Not at all, but it's an elegant addition to anyone's makeup bag or vanity. I would purchase this palette again, and have since picked up 93 Rue de Passy as well.

Palettes -NARS - Best Palette (#9944)
rated 5 of 5
Peacelover18 1/22/2011 3:45:00 AM

I am lighter than NW15, neutral-toned but leaning toward cool. I wear Make Up For Ever Face & Body Foundation in #38. I have green eyes and brown hair.
I own 6 of the 7 eyeshadow palettes that NARS has released (missing the Night Series one, if you really want to know), and without a doubt this one is the best. I have many palettes that I love, but this one would definitely be in the top 5 of my all-time favorites.
The colors in this palette are described by NARS as follows: Bellissima (left side of the duo) - shimmering beige, All About Eve (both sides of the duo) - flesh toned neutrals, Bali (single) - neutral taupe, and Kalahari (both sides of the duo) - gold confection, sugared cocoa. The Bellissima color is the only dud of the palette in my opinion - it's an unpigmented creamy white with shimmer. It makes a nice highlight/blending out shade, but it just pales in comparison to the other magnificent colors in this palette. The All About Eve duo is lauded all over MUA as amazing and it truly is. One side is a satiny-formula pinky-champagne color that has just a little bit of shimmer, the other is a slightly more golden shade that offers a more noticeable gleam to the eye. These 2 shades are perfect all-over lid colors. The Kalahari duo is a great pair of browns - a warmer, shimmery bronze and a cooler, almost blue-brown shade. Both are incredibly smooth and make great lid and crease colors. And then there is Bali, How I love thee, Bali. Let me count the ways: 1) You are taupe. 2) You are a matte taupe. 3) You are an incredibly smooth matte taupe and the most perfect crease shade ever created. 4) I loved you so much I bought you in a single form even though I already owned you in this palette.
In sum, this is an amazing palette - if you're looking for a palette to use for an everyday neutral look, then NARS Best is the perfect choice. The only way they could've improved this palette was by replacing Bellissima with a matte highlight shade, but I won't hold it against them. If they had made this palette any more perfect, no one would ever buy any other eyeshadow palette ever again, sending the cosmetics industry into a huge financial crisis. Of course I kid. But seriously, if you ever have the chance to buy this palette, get it. Don't fret if you can't though, because every one of these beautiful shades are permanent. This palette retailed for $50 and it was worth every penny.

Palettes -NARS - Day and Night palette (Sephora holiday 2009)
rated 3 of 5
Peacelover18 1/21/2011 1:32:00 AM

I am lighter than NW15, neutral-toned but leaning towards cool. I wear Make Up For Ever Face & Body Foundation in #38.
This palette was released as a Sephora exclusive palette for the holiday 2009 season, but was later available on the NARS site as well. I love these six-shadow palettes from NARS and own all but one of them, so I knew I had to get this one. The colors are described by NARS as follows: Abyssinia (single) - delicate pearl sheen, Sugarland (left side of the duo) - sparkling apricot, Fathom (single) - pink tulle with silver shimmer, Cleo (left side of the duo) - seafoam, Underworld (right side of the duo) - slate blue, Night Breed (single) - black with silver glitter. Abysinnia is just okay - it is softly shimmery but it's not incredibly pigmented. It makes a nice highlight shade. Sugarland is the only shadow in this palette that I don't really like - it has a chunky texture and goes on pretty sheer like a MAC Lustre finish. Fathom is probably my favorite shade - it's a nice sheer baby pink, and the silver shimmer gives it a little something special. It makes a very nice all-over lid shade. Cleo is another great shade - if you want to use it all over the lid you do have it pack it on a little, but it makes a pretty and unusual inner tearduct highlighter. Underworld is nice but uninteresting - just your average blue-grey shade - you can find this shade in a million other brands. Night Breed has a nice smooth texture, unlike MAC Black Tied, but it's not the most pigmented black shadow. Overall, this palette is just okay.
My main gripe with this is that it would be hard to create a look using just these colors - I feel I need to bring in other shadows to create a complete look. The only shadow I really don't like from this palette is Sugarland, so the quality really isn't the problem. I would not buy this palette again, and I wouldn't recommend you buy it either. Go for one of the better NARS palettes like the "Best" palette or Pleasures of Paris if you can find them or just buy the singles or duos of the shades in the palette that you're really drawn to.

Lip Gloss -Chanel - Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss - Fatale (61)
rated 4 of 5
Peacelover18 10/18/2010 4:29:00 AM

I am lighter than NW15, neutral-toned but leaning towards cool. I wear Make Up For Ever Face & Body Foundation in #38. I purchased the new Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in 3 shades: #55 Confidence (LE), #58 Emoi, and #61 Fatale. Fatale is a classic, slightly blue-toned red with very, very subtle and very, very small shimmer. I actually purchased this color with Gabrielle Rouge Coco, and it's a great combination. The formula is very nice - thick, but not sticky, with a jelly-like finish that is slightly more opaque than you'd get with most Glossimers. Fatale seems to be a little more opaque than the other 2 I purchased. The applicator is a double-sided doe-foot that is a littly flimsy, but nearly as much as I'd expected. The packaging is classic Chanel - opaque black with gold accenting (not see-through glass tubes as the testers are at counters), slighly taller than the the lipsticks or Rouge Allure Laques, but not as tall as the Glossimers. The RA Extrait de Glosses contain slightly more product than a Glossimer as well - 0.28 oz as opposed to 0.19oz. They are quite expensive glosses at $32 (Glossimers are $27), but I find them to be well worth the price. Fatale has quickly become my favorite red lipgloss and I will absolutely be repurchasing this shade, and other RA Extrait de Glosses in the future. EDIT 1/11/11: After wearing these glosses for a couple months, I've noticed that they tend to bleed more than any other glosses that I've tried. I decided to take 1 lippie off for this. It's not a huge problem, and wearing a lip liner can help, but it is annoying and I have never had this problem with the glossimers. I still love these glosses though and still recommend them.

Lip Gloss -Chanel - Confidence Rouge Allure Extrait De Gloss
rated 4 of 5
Peacelover18 10/18/2010 4:23:00 AM

I am lighter than NW15, neutral-toned but leaning towards cool. I wear Make Up For Ever Face & Body Foundation in #38. I purchased the new Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in 3 shades: #55 Confidence (LE), #58 Emoi, and #61 Fatale. Confidence is neutral rosy-pink color with very, very small and very, very subtle silver shimmer. It is great paired with any neutral pink lipstick, like NARS Dolce Vita or MAC Angel. The formula is very nice - thick, but not sticky, with a jelly-like finish that is slightly more opaque than you'd get with most Glossimers. The applicator is a double-sided doe-foot that is a littly flimsy, but nearly as much as I'd expected. Lip Gloss -Chanel - Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss - Emoi (58)
rated 4 of 5
Peacelover18 10/18/2010 4:17:00 AM

I am lighter than NW15, neutral-toned but leaning towards cool. I wear Make Up For Ever Face & Body Foundation in #38. I purchased the new Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in 3 shades: #55 Confidence (LE), #58 Emoi, and #61 Fatale. I had only planned on buying Confidence and Fatale, but after trying on Emoi I had to have it and I think it actually might be my favorite of the 3. The color is a medium-to-dark raspberry-rose shade with very, very small and very, very subtle gold shimmer. It looks amazing over Amusing or Romantic Rouge Allure lipsticks. The formula is very nice - thick, but not sticky, with a jelly-like finish that is slightly more opaque than you'd get with most Glossimers. The applicator is a double-sided doe-foot that is a littly flimsy, but nearly as much as I'd expected. Palettes -LORAC - Private Affair Palette
rated 2 of 5
Peacelover18 9/30/2010 12:22:00 AM

I am lighter than NW15 and neutral, often leaning towards cool-toned. I wear Carmindy by Sally Hansen foundation in Porcelain, MUFE Mat Velvet + in No. 15, and MUFE F&B in #38. I fell in love with this palette the minute I laid eyes on it. It looked like the perfect palette for fall - some great neutral colors, a taupe, with a burgundy thrown in to mix it up. The packaging was gorgeous - a wine-colored faux snakeskin little clutch-like box - yes, it's a little boxy but oh so adorable. When you swatch the colors, they are so soft and pigmented and they apply like a dream. However, the real trouble came when I tried to actually do a look with this palette. The shadows are so soft that instead of blending, they turned into that dreaded muddy mess. I also ended up with half of the product on my cheeks instead of my eyes. Thinking it was just a fluke, I tried it again the next day, determined to love this gorgeous palette, but once again it was a no-go. I'm terribly disappointed but this palette is going back. $40 is too much to pay for a palette I'm not going to use. I have to agree with Temptalia on this one - skip this palette and try to dupe the colors from some other brand with better-quality shadows.

Blush -Chanel - Joues Contraste in Rose Temptation
rated 5 of 5
Peacelover18 9/30/2010 12:10:00 AM

I am lighter than NW15 and neutral, often leaning towards cool-toned. I wear Carmindy by Sally Hansen foundation in Porcelain, MUFE Mat Velvet + in No. 15, and MUFE F&B in #38. This blush is LE from the fall 2010 collection. This blush, along with Pink Explosion from the same collection, was my first Chanel blush. I've heard so much hype about the infamous JCs, but I've always felt that most of the colors in the range skew warm, and would therefore not work on my skintone. But then Chanel released Rose Temptation, and being that I have a slight (*cough*) obsession with rose blushes and lipsticks, I knew I had to have it. First, the color - a lovely, neutral rose that is not at all ruddy on my skin. It has a little more brown in it than my beloved discontinued NARS Outlaw (*sob*) but it is still soft enough for porcelain skintones. It does have a slight shimmer in the pan but I've never noticed it on my cheeks. Next, the texture - the 3 blushes released with this collection are a different texture than the usual US JCs - they're baked, like the Euro version JCs usually are. Having never tried the US version, I can't compare the 2, but I will say that based on my experience just from swatching the JCs at the counter, Rose Temptation is probably not as pigmented as the permanent line blushes are. That being said, it is definitely buildable - I usually use the NARS Yachiyo brush to apply. Finally, the packaging is absolutely amazing, and I adore the rose scent, which is strong enough to last for at least 20 minutes after application. Overall, this blush is amazing, and if it were not LE I would be repurchasing it. As it is, I will be investigating the permanent line of JCs a little more thoroughly to see if there are any more colors that might work for my skin. This blush is $42, and I do recommend it.

Lipstick -Chanel - Rouge Coco in Mademoiselle 05
rated 5 of 5
Peacelover18 9/29/2010 11:48:00 PM

I am lighter than NW15 and neutral, often leaning towards cool-toned. I wear Carmindy by Sally Hansen foundation in Porcelain, MUFE Mat Velvet + in No. 15, and MUFE F&B in #38. As many of you already know, this is the lipstick that Vanessa Paridis is wearing in the Rouge Coco ad, and is probably therefore the best-selling shade in the Rouge Coco range (surprise, surprise, since it is lucky No. 5!). I have a slight (ahem) obsession with rose lipsticks, so I knew I would love this one. Only it's not really just a rose lipstick - as mentioned in other reviews, it's a strange (but beautiful!) combination of rose-coral-honey-brown. It's a gorgeous everyday lipstick - I bought mine in April 2010, about a month after the Rouge Coco line was released, and by the end of the year I will most certainly need a new tube. I have never gone through a lipstick as quickly as I have with this one. My only gripe about this lipstick is about the color - while it is a beautiful color, sometimes I've noticed it can pull a little too coral on my neutral-cool skin, usually I notice it when I'm standing directly under a flourescent light. So I definitely recommend you try this lipstick out before you buy, because it might be a little too warm for some people. If that is the case, I recommend Incognito Rouge Allure as an alternative (which I've also reviewed). The lipstick has a light scent - it's the same scent of many of their skincare products - just a light, clean scent. The packaging is as luxurious as you would expect from Chanel. I would definitely recommend this lipstick to everyone (but remember to try before you buy!) and I will be repurchasing this lipstick many, many times in the future.

Lipstick -Chanel - Rouge Allure in Incognito
rated 5 of 5
Peacelover18 9/29/2010 11:16:00 PM

I am lighter than NW15 and neutral, often leaning towards cool-toned. I wear Carmindy by Sally Hansen foundation in Porcelain, MUFE Mat Velvet + in No. 15, and MUFE F&B in #38. This lipstick was originally released with the Spring 2010 LE collection, but has since been added to the permanent line. This lipstick is a gorgeous neutral-rose color; I could definitely see it being a MLBB color for someone with more pigmented lips. This is a great everyday lipstick - it adds enough color to brighten up a very neutral face, but it is still work-appropriate. This is a great alternative to Mademoiselle Rouge Coco for those who thought it was too warm (or too coral or orange) on them - Incognito is in the same color family but it's definitely more neutral than Mademoiselle. This lipstick has decent staying power - I'd say 3-4 hours before it starts to fade, and it is never drying. And of course, the famous Rouge Allure packaging is so luxurious. Overall, this lipstick is well worth the $30. I would absolutely recommend this to everyone looking for a great everyday lipstick, and I will definitely be repurchasing in the future.

Blush -NARS - Outlaw
rated 5 of 5
Peacelover18 11/24/2009 5:39:00 AM

I am lighter than NW15 and neutral, often leaning towards cool-toned. I wear Carmindy by Sally Hansen foundation in Porcelain, MUFE Mat Velvet + in No. 15, and MUFE F&B in #38. I really wish in the drop-down menu for the "Would you buy this product again?" question there was a "Hell yes!!" option because I would most certainly select it for this blush. Before I bought this blush, I only wore pinks (like Benefit Dandelion, MAC Pink Swoon) and pinky-peaches (like NARS Orgasm), certain that any other color would be too much for my very pale complexion. But I picked this one up on a whim about two years ago and I've never looked back. In the pan, this blush looks to be a very scary, ruddy-cheeked red, but on the face, it turns into a slightly shimmery, glowy, rosey flush. It is so pretty, and I love to pair it with a neutral eye and a similarly rosey-hued lip, like Lipstick Queen Rose Sinner. Outlaw is one of my all-time favorite blushes, and undoubtedly one of my favorite items in my entire makeup collection. Every time I pick it up or just glance at the name it makes me happy - that's the power of a really great blush. If you're fair like me, please don't be afraid to give this one a try - just apply it with a skunk brush and use a light hand and you won't be disappointed. NARS blushes retail for $25 and they are worth every penny - they last forever, on the skin and in the pan, and I've yet to try one that I didn't like. NARS Outlaw is now a staple in my makeup collection; I will absolutely be repurchasing in the future and I recommend others check it out as well.

Eyeliner -MAC - Smolder eye kohl
rated 4 of 5
Peacelover18 11/22/2009 4:58:00 AM

I am lighter than NW15, neutral-toned leaning towards cool, with green eyes. I wear Carmindy by Sally Hansen foundation in Porcelain, MUFE Mat Velvet+ in 15, and MUFE F&B in #38. While I own many eyeliners, most of them are either gel/cream liners or waterproof pencil liners like Urban Decay 24/7. I wanted to try a more traditional kohl-style liner so I picked up this one. It is a fantastic very black liner that is great when you want a very smoky, slightly messy, slept-in-my-makeup-last-night look. It's very easy to smudge, which makes it great for lining the upper lashline, but when I wear it on my waterline it smudges very quickly and usually ends up under my eyes. It is great for tightlining the upper lid though. Overall, I wish I could wear this liner on my waterline without it smudging everywhere but I still love to use it for lining elsewhere on my eye. Smolder retails for $14.50 and it is worth every penny. I will repurchase if I ever need to, and I will be checking out more colors of the Eye Kohls.

Lip Treatments -Fresh - Sugar Rose Lip Treatment SPF 15
rated 3 of 5
Peacelover18 11/13/2009 5:20:00 AM

I am lighter than NW15 and neutral-toned. I wear Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy foundation in Porcelain, MUFE Mat Velvet + in 15, and MUFE F&B in #38. After recently becoming obsessed with tinted lip balms I decided to give this one a try, since the original is popular. The packaging is very nice - it's pretty weighty, so it doesn't feel cheap at all. The bottom has to be partially twisted off in order to open it, which is good because the cap won't be able to come off easily in your purse. However I am not so impressed with the product itself. First the scent - it's supposed to be lemon-scented. When I think of a lemon-scented lip product, I assume it would smell something like Lush Bohemian soap - a soft, sugary lemon-cupcake sort of smell. However, in comparison, this smells more along the lines of Pledge Lemon Furniture Polish - not something I'm thrilled about putting on my lips. Secondly, the tinted part. My lips are not at pigmented - they're only slightly darker than my very pale skintone. When I first applied this I could barely tell the difference. When they say "tint," they mean it quite literally, as in only the barest hint of a slightly pink color. That the was the part I was most disappointed with. I will say this though - this lip balm is very moisturizing, definitely the most moisturizing stick lip balm I've ever tried. However for $22.50 it should do what it says on the tube and add a nice rosey tint to your lips. Since I've purchased this I've relegated it to be a strictly nighttime lip balm, preferring to use more pigmented lip balms, such as Korres Lip Butters and MAC Tinted Lip Conditioners, in the daytime. Overall, if you're looking for a tinted lip balm that adds a real, noticeable tint (and/or if you have pigmented lips to begin with) look elsewhere. If all you care about is adding moisture then you'll probably like this one. I will use this up while I have it but I will not be repurchasing.

Lip Treatments -Tarte - 24/7 Lip Sheer SPF 15
rated 2 of 5
Peacelover18 11/13/2009 4:55:00 AM

I am lighter than NW15 and neutral-toned. I wear Sally Hansen Natural Beauty by Carmindy foundation in Porcelain, MUFE Mat Velvet + in 15, and MUFE F&B in #38. I purchased one of these lip sheers in the color Tea Time, a deep rose. I had been lemming this for a while and I decided to grab one during the recent Sephora FF sale. Unfortunately I was incredibly disappointed. While the color is a beautiful and exactly how it is described (a dark rosey-pink, berry color) and very pigmented the product itself left much to be desired. My lips do not dry out easily, but 20 minutes after applying this product they were drier than the Sahara. I reapplied it and also added a coat of my favorite lipbalm, a MAC Tendertone, for good measure, but 20 minutes later my lips again were incredibly dry. I'm saddened to say that this product is going back to Sephora. While the color range is fabulous and the price is right, these Lip Sheers aren't worth the sacrifice of the well-being of my lips. Please do not buy this product - if it's a tinted lipbalm you're looking for, I recommend going for a Korres Lip Butter or a MAC Tinted Lip Conditioner instead. Trust me, your lips will thank you. This product retails for $14 at Sephora.
