Blush -MAC - Sheertone Blush in Blushbaby
PaleBaby 10/22/2004 5:18:00 PM
I absolutely love this blush. I bought it a few years ago, when a MA at the MAC counter pointed out the Sheertones to me when I was on a hunt for a "fall" makeup look. It was an impulse buy, and I didn't expect to like it all that much, but boy was I wrong.
I'm not sure what it is about it, exactly; it seems to be exactly the right color... a gorgeous blend of brown and pink. It goes so well with my pinky, pale skin. I apply it on the apples of my cheeks in the morning, and it only looks more soft and natural and pretty as the day wears on. I do sometimes have to reapply in the evening or late afternoon, but I'm a blush fiend, after all.
This is one of those products that just ties a look together really well; you catch a glance of yourself in a mirror during the day and you just look so fresh and awake and pretty. I wear it every single day, it's surely a staple, and I'm thinking it will be the first blush I ever repurchase.
Yup. LOVE it.

Crème -Chanel - Teint Compact Creme Universel SPF15
PaleBaby 8/31/2004 5:55:00 PM
I have a feeling this review's going to be pretty lengthy... *deep breath*
Okay. I've been on a seemingly never-ending search for the perfect cream foundation. I absolutely love cream formulations. I have pale, combination skin... an oily t-zone, normal cheeks, a little dry in spots. I like the fuller coverage creams offer and I can't stand a dry or dull-looking finish. Every single one I came across, I tried. Revlon's was too oily, didn't last and turned orange. MAC's wasn't blendable enough, too tacky, too obvious. And so on and so forth. So, I was on break at work - (I was working at a department store...) - and I wandered up to the cosmetics/fragrances floor. I came across this stuff and immediately got excited - but, it is quite pricey, so that night I looked up these reviews - (<3MUA) - and decided it was probably worth it. The next day, I purchased it in "Limpide" -- it was the beginning of something beautiful...
So, here we go:
Pros: This foundation is amazing -- if you have dry skin, go out and buy it right now. It doesn't accentuate flaky, dry skin at all. AT ALL. When my skin's stressed from acne creams, etc, I can always count on this foundation to make it look flawless. The coverage is gorgeous. You only need a tiny bit to make your skin look perfect. Not like it's wearing makeup, not like you have anything to cover; just flawless. It's very easy to build coverage and it never looks cakey. Never. I honestly believe that no matter your skin problems, this foundation will make your skin look more perfect than anything ever has. I use the sponge they provided with it and I have no complaints. I used to use an obscene amount of concealer on my cheeks, forehead, etc, and I use SO much less now. It's not so full-coverage that it's too much, but it covers up enough so that you could use it alone and still look heavenly. The cream feels *good* on your skin; cooling. And your skin remains super-soft and touchable. This foundation does not make your skin look dry throughout the day. It makes it look beautiful & glowy. It's also got an SPF of 15, I believe, which is also a nice added bonus. Oh, and it smells divine, somehow!
Cons: Sigh, unfortunately, it does have a few. Which is why I rated it a 4. Okay, one of its problems is its ability to ~last~... it's not like it completely wears off come the end of the day, but it certainly doesn't look as perfect as it did when you first applied it. But what foundation does? If a foundation's going to last like that, it would need to be thicker, drier, ickier... and I'd choose this foundation over that any day. Still it's something to consider. It wears off a bit... ah well! The second problem is oiliness. Now, the foundation itself isn't oily at all, in the least. It's soft and smooth and fresh. But, for oily-skinned chicks, this may not be the thing to buy. It certainly didn't keep the shinies away for me, and I had to reapply powder a few times throughout the day. This was summer, of course, so I'm hoping that will change once the weather cools down, but still. And the third and final rant: color range. I'm pale, but not painfully so, and the palest shade in this line - (Limpide) - is *almost* too dark/yellow for my pink-toned skin. I'm hoping it will still work in wintertime, because I doubt Chanel's planning on releasing any other shades. ;P
Phew... so, other than those few complaints, I think this foundation is pure perfection. It's worth the hefty price tag - (though we'll see if I can afford working part-time and going to school... ; ) - and, yup. I'm in love.

Concealers -Lancome - Effacernes
PaleBaby 6/30/2004 9:08:00 PM
I bought a tube of this stuff last week after reading the reviews here. I pretty much agree with them; this is a wonderful concealer, all in all. It works beautifully under the eyes and on drier spots; absolutely no caking up or rubbing off or accentuating dry spots. It's the first moisturizing concealer that I've tried that has lived up to that claim. It's one and pretty much only flaw; coverage. I have fairly dark circles around my eyes, and though this covers them well, there's still a fairly distinct line between the greyish color below my eyes and the rosier shade of my cheeks. So it doesn't make me look completely perfect... ; ) but I think if it did, I'd end up looking fake and cakey anyway; any concealer that gives completely opaque coverage ends up looking cakey, I find. So when I wear this, I just look as if I don't really have dark circles; just barely. Oh, and the tube is great; tiny little opening. That will ensure that this product lasts and lasts, since only a tiny dab is needed. Knowing that, it was easy to pay the large price for it. Bottom line; good concealer, will repurchase.
EDIT, 08/26/04: Hrm... I've been using this concealer pretty much all summer, and have come to realize that it's just not for me. There's nothing wrong with it, but the type of coverage it gives is just... wrong, for my skin. It's sort of mask-like, almost like paint, while still not being all that opaque - does that make any sense? Anyway, I think it has also been contributing to some breakouts for me, so I'm going to have to cut back to wearing it only around my eyes, unless I'm having a "heavy duty makeup" kind of day. For important occasions or pictures, I'd wear this, but for a "daily basis" concealer, I think I'm going to have to give in and order VL's Cream Concealer; I prefer it. Also want to try Lorac's. Because I won't be using this product very much, I don't think I'll be running out soon... and when I do, I don't think I'll be repurchasing. Oh well. Still searching for that HG...

Lip Treatments -MAC - Tinted Lip Conditioner - Petting Pink
PaleBaby 6/30/2004 9:01:00 PM
LOVE this stuff. It's the absolute perfect summer color; a soft, but somehow bright pink. It gives your lips a color that says, "hey, I'm here and I'm pretty" - but not too loudly. ; ) So it's easy to wear it with a smokey eye. I haven't found it to have any strange taste. The smell is divine, I have to keep myself from eating it. It doesn't last a terribly long time, but it fades evenly and leaves my lips soft and conditioned, hence the name. The SPF is such a great bonus; I can wear this by itself when I'm at the beach or whatever and not worry about sun damage. I don't like the fact that it's in a pot so much, but I'll deal. Bottom line, this stuff is awesome. Will definitely repurchase.

Loose Powders -Sally Hansen - Sally Hansen/Cornsilk Healthy Beauty mattifying powder [DISCONTINUED]
PaleBaby 6/30/2004 8:55:00 PM
I just repurchased this stuff for the first time tonight -- my first package lasted me around 3 months. It's the first powder I've ever repurchased, and I'll continue to do so. It's very close to perfect; It's yellow-toned, as so many other loose powders aren't, and it evens out my ruddy complexion perfectly. I can set my makeup with it without looking cakey or powdery at all... usually, I can't put any kind of powder over my entire face without it accentuating my dry spots, but this stuff somehow magically mattifies oily spots and lends a gentle glow to my dry spots. Amazing. :) Although it doesn't keep me oil-free for a terribly long time, I have no problem reapplying, as in it doesn't cake up at all. It's also got the nicest scent I've found in a loose powder so far. So for the price, this stuff is great.

Lip Treatments -Badger - Cinnamon Bay lip & body balm
PaleBaby 5/18/2004 10:31:00 PM
I like this stuff. I bought it a year or so ago, when I was hunting for a cinnamon-scented lipbalm. The tin is adorable, and it holds a lot of product. I use this on my lips when they're just a little chapped -- but it isn't moisturizing enough to soothe them when they're sore/peeling. The scent is awesome; not at all artificial. Spicy as opposed to sweet, as another reviewer mentioned. I like the consistency a lot; thicker balms are usually too sticky and unspreadable for my liking. This stuff works great under lipstick. I'd repurchase solely for the scent, even if it wasn't such an all-around great buy... but it is; how nice. :o)

Lip Treatments -Blistex - Medicated Lip Ointment
PaleBaby 5/17/2004 1:20:00 AM
This stuff rocks; I stole my tube from my boyfriend, hehe, so I can't really comment on price, but I'd be willing to pay a pretty penny for this ointment. It is the only thing that helps my lips when they're really chapped. I can get away with using Burt's Bees or Carmex when my lips are in need of just a little moisture, but when they're red and peeling, this stuff is perfect; it's not at all gummy or sticky, more of a liquid, so it smooths my lips right away and sinks right in. Though I can only really use it at night, because it does leave behind a whitish cast. I don't mind the minty smell or the tingly feeling it leaves behind. I'll repurchase again and again. :o)

Lotions/ Creams -Vaseline - healthy hand essentials
PaleBaby 5/11/2004 11:37:00 PM
LOVELOVELOVE! Smells so good, works so well and is super cheap. Big thumbs up; go buy some. : )
EDIT: I still like this stuff, but if used on moderately dry hands, it burns! =( Also, if you rub it in too much, it pills. So I'll stick to using it only when my hands are in good shape already. Still makes them soft & still smells good.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Clear Pore Cleanser Mask
PaleBaby 5/10/2004 10:47:00 PM
I absolutely love this stuff; I'm on my 3rd or 4th bottle, and will continue to purchase it again and again. I've never used an acne cleanser or mask that has been so consistent; I can always rely on this stuff when I feel a break-out coming on, and thanks to it, I hardly ever actually break-out anymore. I use it as a mask about once every 2 weeks or so, and as a cleanser in the shower each day; I don't find it to be too drying, as long as I moisturize afterwards. It's also pretty affordable, and lasts well, as long as you don't use too much at a time, (and you only need a little...) My HG acne treatment!
UPDATE: This stuff is still working miracles for my skin, but it's becoming harder and harder to find! The last bottle I found was at Zellers with the discount items, and it'd been marked down to about 2/3 of the original price. PLEASE tell me Neutrogena isn't discontinuing this product? :*(

Blush -Revlon - Skinlights Color Lighting for Eyes/Cheeks in Berry
PaleBaby 5/7/2004 3:32:00 PM
Hrm. I got this stuff free when I bought the SkinLights Diffusing Tint Foundation, so even though it's not my favorite, I can't really complain. I like the packaging, the consistency and I can even live with the shimmer, but I've found that it doesn't blend very well and the shade is just too purple for me. :\ If I ever do repurchase, it'll be in a pinker shade.

Liquid -Revlon - Skinlights Diffusing Tint [DISCONTINUED]
PaleBaby 5/7/2004 3:29:00 PM
After using this stuff only once, I love it; perfect creamy consistency, just enough coverage, doesn't look dry or cakey at all and really brightens the face. My one and only complaint is the color range; I bought a bottle of this stuff in "Ivory" and it could be much lighter for being the lightest shade they make; smarten up, Revlon! Other than that though, I think I'm going to get along with this foundation... this could be the start of something beautiful. ; )
EDIT: Uh-oh... after using this pretty consistantly for about a month, I'm starting to not like it so much. :\ It seems to have turned oranger, and it leaves me super oily now. Possibly because it's getting hotter outside? In any case, I'll use it on lazy beach days, because I still like the coverage and glow it gives me, and I don't mind looking oily at the beach. For a daily foundation, however, I'm switching over to a cream to powder compact by Chanel.

Concealers -Revlon - New Complexion Concealer [DISCONTINUED]
PaleBaby 5/7/2004 3:27:00 PM
I really wanted to like this stuff, but it just didn't do it for me. It's super creamy, and also quite thin, so the amount of product and blending it takes to achieve the desired result isn't really worth it. Also, I found that when I set this with powder, the concealer migrated into the tiny creases beneath my eyes and made me look wrinkly -- and I'm 18. ; ) I didn't like the finish all that well, either. What a shame, because the packaging is adorably convenient and the price is most certainly right. Probably better for someone who has very little to cover, and nothing around the eyes. Oh well -- I'll stick to my amazing (though pricey...), Vincent Longo concealer.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Hard as Nails with Nylon nail polish
PaleBaby 5/7/2004 3:22:00 PM
This is a great, affordable polish. I picked up a bottle of it in "Kiss Me" for $1.95 at Wal-Mart; the color is awesome, the most fabulous red. This shade is a creme, so it only takes one coat for your nails to look perfect, like you applied about a zillion coats... ; ) Super shiny, dries really smooth. I'll definitely try some other shades.

Mascara -Bonne Bell - Lash Gloss
PaleBaby 5/3/2004 11:01:00 PM
I absolutely love this stuff. I bought a tube of it in "Tidal Wave" and it's the perfect everyday mascara for me. I already have very dark, fairly thick lashes and I really hate the flakiness and smudginess of regular mascaras. This gives my lashes enough defition, minus the raccoon eyes. I just curl 'em, slick this stuff on and go; and I don't have to worry about swimming, crying or sleeping with it on. Lovely. : )

Lip Liners -Annabelle - lipliner in demure
PaleBaby 5/3/2004 5:49:00 PM
I love this stuff. I bought this liner almost a year ago and have most of it left; it lasts a long time. I like the consistency of all the Annabelle liners, but this color is my absolute fave; I have a little scar on my lower lip from when I was a kid, and it's much paler than the rest of my mouth. Thank the goddesses for Demure; it's my exact lipcolor, so I just color the pale spot in and, voila, perfection that lasts until I wash it off. =) Great stuff, great price.
