Lipstick -Clinique - Long last Lipstick - Bamboo Pink
rated 5 of 5
Olivine 1/24/2012 1:19:00 PM

Clinique makes some great neutral lipsticks. To me, Bamboo Pink is one of those great, versatile shades that is good for either day or night and is neutral enough to work with many different eye makeup looks. It's a dusty rose with a hint of brown and silver shimmer. Normally pink toned lipsticks don't flatter me very much but the subtle brown tone of this shade balances it out and makes it work on me. The shimmer isn't overpowering nor does it feel gritty on the lips. The formula doesn't dry my lips out and it does last a bit longer than other cream lipsticks. This one is a staple in my makeup bag. Would definitely repurchase.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Shale Eyeshadow
rated 2 of 5
Olivine 1/24/2012 1:14:00 PM

Shale is (unfortunately) one of theose eyeshadow shades that looks super pretty in the pot but doesn't look so good on the eyes. The colour is super pretty; a soft, medium plum with taupe undertones and a bit of shimmer to spice it up a bit. I thought it would be a great everyday colour as while the shade is in the purple family it's very subtle. Great idea to perk up brown eyes instead of boring brown neutrals right? Wrong. Sadly, Shale just doesn't work on me. The shadow applies very chalky on me and the purple tones in it faded away into a dull, gray mess as I blended it. It looked like a splotchy bruise on my eyelid and it flaked on me too. I wouldn't recommend this nor would I repurchase it.

Mascara -Clinique - Lash Doubling Mascara
rated 1 of 5
Olivine 1/2/2012 1:10:00 PM

This mascara lengthens my lashes well and doesn't clump much. It would be a nice mascara for a natural look if the formula weren't so ridiculously wet. This stuff takes forever to dry on me and leaves smudges all over my eyelids which are a pain to clean up. I would not repurchase.

Mascara -Clinique - High Impact Mascara
rated 2 of 5
Olivine 12/18/2011 9:52:00 AM

A very average mascara imo. It adds a decent amount of length and some thickness to lashes but nothing spectacular. Tends to get clumpy after multiple coats but didn't flake or smudge on me. Not worth the $18 Cdn. to me. I would not repurchase.

Lip Gloss -New York Color - Liquid Lip Shine
rated 5 of 5
Olivine 11/27/2011 4:43:00 PM

Nothing like a change for the better. I never liked the old NYC liquid lipshines; they smelled and tasted like flowery perfume mixed with bar soap, were super frosty on the lips and faded away quickly. But I am loving these new ones! They smell and taste like sweet vanilla, range in color from sheer (Brighton Beach Peach and Nude York City) to more opaque and almost like a liquid lipstick (Honey on the Hudson, Fashion Ave. Fuschia)-all are super pretty! They have decent wear, aren't sticky in the least, don't dry my lips out and are always to be had for $5 or less. Seriously, what is not to love? Will definitely repurchase. :)

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Color Icon Trio - Silent Treatment
rated 2 of 5
Olivine 9/12/2011 4:44:00 PM

After reading all the great reviews I was very eager to try this trio. I was thrilled to finally get my hands on it as all of the other new Wnw trios had somewhat odd colour combinations that I knew wouldn't flatter my fair skin in the least. The shades in this trio are beautiful: pale, shimmery nude peach/pink, dark brown with golden shimmer and a lovely mauve toned taupe brown shot through with shimmer. But alas they don't work on me at all. The lid and crease shades are too muddy and dark on me and the base/highlighter shade is too frosty and too pink. Bummer as the pigmentation, texture and blendability are great. I gave it two stars as I can see this trio looking fabulous on others. For $5 or less, these shadows are great quality.

Eye Shadow -Elizabeth Arden - Color Intrigue Eyeshadow Singles
rated 4 of 5
Olivine 9/12/2011 4:39:00 PM

I'm very impressed by this eyeshadow. Truthfully, I've never been a huge Elizabeth Arden fan. Their makeup line never had much appeal to me until I strolled by their diaplay one day and saw these eyeshadow singles. The shade 'Vintage'- a beautiful soft, shimmery purple caught my eye. I couldn't resist trying it- and I really like it! The formula is soft and silky and blends well. The shade has good pigment, brings out my brown eyes wonderfully and lasts all day when used with a base. The black packaging is classy and sturdy. I may have to check out the duos and quads now...

Lipstick -MAC - Lustre in Jubilee
rated 5 of 5
Olivine 9/12/2011 4:27:00 PM

I heart this shade. I'm a neutral makeup lover and this shade along with Clinique Tenderheart are my favourite everyday nude lipsticks. On me Jubilee is a sheer nude pink with a hint of beige- no orange or brown here. I was initally a little afraid to try this as most pink/beige toned nude lipsticks have given me the dreaded 'concealer lip' look, but this shade doesn't at all. It has no shimmer and true to its formula name, has a lustruous glossy finish. A great everyday, 'goes with anything' type of lipstick shade. Would definitely repurchase.

Lipstick -Clinique - Different Lipstick - Tenderheart
rated 5 of 5
Olivine 9/12/2011 4:22:00 PM

Love this lipstick. I love neutral makeup and this along with MAC Jubilee are my favourite everyday nude lipsticks. This shade is the perfect nude brown with a slight hint of pink that applies much more sheerly than it looks. It isn't dark brown or muddy on my fair skin in the least. Plus it has no shimmer, a glossy finish and it feels moisturizing on the lips-perfect everyday no brainer lipcolour. It's not terribly long lasting but then again few cream/sheer lispticks are. And for a colour this perfect I don't mind reapplying at all. Would absolutely repurchase.

Blush -Clinique - Soft-Pressed Powder Blusher in Mocha Pink
rated 5 of 5
Olivine 9/10/2011 6:54:00 PM

I love this blush. I'm very fair and like to wear neutral makeup. I'd been looking for a neutral pink brown blush for years to complement my nude lipsticks but all of the allegedly 'nude' blushes I tried were either too dark, muddy brown or orange on my skin or too sparkly and sheer. This blush is perfect. It's a beautiful, medium pink-brown shade that applies sheerly but is buildable to a beautiful colour. It actually looks 'nude' on my skin HOORAY! I disagree that it is completely matte, on me this shade has a small amount of shimmer/sheen to it. But I don't mind it, in fact I think that's what make the shade work on me. It gives it some dimension and prevents it from being a completely flat, boring colour. I sure hope Clinique never discontinues this because I intend to keep buying it forever and ever! I highly recommend this to anyone with fair skin who is looking for a nude coloured blush.

Mascara -Almay - Intense i-color w/ Light Interplay Technology
rated 4 of 5
Olivine 9/4/2010 5:12:00 PM

I really like this mascara. I'm generally not a big fan of mascaras with big brushes but this one isn't impossibly large for those who have a smaller eye area nor is it overly hard to maneuver. It really does do a good job of getting to each lash from corner to corner and even helps lift them a bit imo. The formula isn't overly goopy or wet and it does a good job at adding length and volume to lashes. It also didn't smear on or flake on me. Here are the available shades: Black Flash- Deep black with shimmer (for brown eyes). Good basic, everyday colour. Black Steel- Slightly grayish toned black with silver shimmer (for blue eyes). Would be a nice, subtle complement to a silver or gray eye look imo. Chocolate Quartz- Dark chocolate brown with gold/bronze shimmer (for green eyes). Great natural looking mascara for those 'no makeup' days or for those with blonde lashes. Black Emerald- Black with green shimmer (for hazel eyes). Good mascara for any green eye makeup look. Each mascara is meant to complement the matching Interplay e/s trios and liners for their specific eye colour but imo they can all suit any eye colour or skintone depending on the look you're going for. The shimmer/colour of each is pretty subtle and not really visible except for under direct light. From a distance they all just look like a regular black or brown mascara. But they are pretty nonetheless and can add a just little extra flair to a particular eye makeup look. As for me I would repurchase. This is one of Almays better mascaras imo.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Patina (Frost)
rated 2 of 5
Olivine 9/1/2010 2:51:00 PM

I wanted to love this but alas Patina was a letdown for me. In the pan and when swatched on my skin the shade is truly gorgeous- a light warm-toned taupe brown shot through with golden shimmer that also gives off just a hint of pink and even slightly green iridescence in the light. It's almost like a warmer/brown toned version of MAC Vex imo. So, what's the problem? I am pretty fair and this shade barely shows up on me no matter what I do.I usually have problems with shadows being much too intense on me, what a switch to have it the other way around! I have to pack it on like crazy over a primer and even then, the colour doesn't do much for me. I also find Patina doesn't go on looking like it does in the pan but much more grayish and ashy-toned which does nothing for my skin except make me look washed out and my eyes tired. . Although the colour is super pretty and unique this shade is definitely YMMV imo.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Naked Lunch
rated 5 of 5
Olivine 9/1/2010 2:43:00 PM

I LOVE Naked Lunch. Phloof, Dazzlelight and Nylon were too pale and obnoxiously frosty on me. I have Shroom and love it but was looking for a base e/s shade that a little bit more pinkish/fleshtoned. THIS IS IT- A beautiful frosty (though not overly so ) slightly pink- toned champagne that adds a lovely brightness to the browbone or corners of eyes and isn't stark or fake looking at all on my fair skin. Texture is smooth and easy to blend as well. It also looks great used as a wash on the lid with brown eyeliner for everyday and also blends well with many other shadow colours. Though I must say I find it looks particularly fab with some browns from MAC in particular Sable and Mulch- great everyday eyeshadow combos imho. Great staple shadow that I could see working for many. Go get it if you haven't already!

Eye Shadow -MAC - Mulch eyeshadow
rated 4 of 5
Olivine 8/31/2010 3:16:00 PM

Initially I was a little afraid to try this colour as I thought it may be extremely red and dark on my fair skin. But it's actually the most beautiful medium shimmery chocolate brown colour with a hint of bronze on me. Kind of neutral with a kick, the reddish undertones are actually (not to mention surprisingly and thankfully I might add) very subtle and just give it a bit of dimension to make it a little more than your 'basic' brown. I would imagine this shade would look gorgeous next to any eye colour and could suit many skintones as well. This shade looks fab partnered with Naked Lunch for an everyday look imo. One lippie off as the texture of this e/s really isn't the best. I've never really liked MAC's Velvet texture and this is no exception. If you over apply the colour can look too dark, muddy/dirty and it can be hard to blend properly. I find you have to play around with Mulch quite a bit to get it to look just right. If it doesn't look right initially don't give up! But applied lightly to the crease, on the lid or wet as a liner this shade is gorgeous imo. Would definitely repurchase. :)

Eye Shadow -MAC - Dazzlelight
rated 2 of 5
Olivine 8/31/2010 2:39:00 PM

I'm disappointed in this one. I'm pretty fair and had high hopes that this would work out to be a good highlighter shade for me but alas...it's just too light and frosty on me. To my eye this is a slightly more golden/warm toned version of Phloof, a frosty off white with a pinky sheen. And I have the exact same issues with it as I did with Phloof- it's way too pale for me and looks VERY stark next to my skin. On the plus side texture is great (like most Veluxe Pearls from MAC) and it lasts well. YMMV with this one mes amies.
