I have 35 year old acne-prone skin. Normally I only have hormonal breakouts, but this stuff caused me to break out with white heads and cystic pimples. I didn't change or add anything in my skincare routine other than this, so that's how I know this was the culprit.
It scrubbed very well, but left a film on my skin that I had to wash off afterwards. I did use it for about two weeks to see if it did anything, despite the breakouts, and I didn't see any change. For deep exfoliation I prefer (and had good success with) Juice Beauty green apple peel and Kate Somerville Exfolikate.
I have oily hair, and have been through many high-end shampoos looking for the right one. I have tried (with success) B&B Tonic shampoo and Terax bosco shampoo. I assumed because this was a clarifying shampoo that it would be good to treat oily hair, but my hair got oily within a few hours, as usual. I tried this for between colorings and it works just the same as the drugstore brand I was using. Luckily I got this for a deal at TJ Maxx, otherwise I wouldn't have tried it.
These have been my staple blotting tissues for a few years. I used to use other brands, like MAC and clean n clear, but Boscia does the best job in keeping my oil-free for longer periods of time. After I used the clean n clear, I got oily within 30 minutes. I just stocked up on these when Sephora had them on sale for $5 recently. I would still pay $10 for a pack, though. I have them in every formulation (original, green tea, lavender, rose, orange, and vanilla) and they all work exactly the same. I use 2 of the tissues in a blotting session to get rid of all the oilies.
I have this scrub in Maple Sugar Lychee Nut. I love foody scents, which is why I purchased this unsniffed, but it really isn't that foody smelling. Its slightly sweet and slighly floral/nutty. Not what i was expecting, but I ended up liking the scent.
I like that this scrub exfoliates very well without being oily whatsoever. I recommend taking a shower with this scrub, since it does tend to stick to your body in the bath tub even after rinsing it off very thoroughly. The scrub has larger grains than most I've tried.
The ingredients are simple: sucrose, purified water, sodium citrate, citric acid, fragrance. The packaging is also simple/bordering on boring. I wish they would spice up the container, like bella lucce does her containers. You do get a LOT of product, 21 oz. And b-glowing.com just dropped the prices on these by $10 permanently.
Mascara -Shu Uemura - Mascara Basic [DISCONTINUED]
NucMed1975 2/23/2010 7:00:00 PM
This has been my go-to mascara for many years now. I tried dozens of other mascaras through the years (all of the Diors, Chanels, the other Shu Uemuras, Guerlains, LM, Lancome, etc) and this is my favorite because unlike the others, it never affects my contact lenses or causes eye irritation, it never smudges or melts in the heat, and it stays on in the ocean. It's not too dramatic, but it does give you nice black lashes, clump-free.
Treatments -Unlisted Brand - RevaleSkin Night Cream
NucMed1975 2/23/2010 6:53:00 PM
I have been using this for 4 months now, and I'm still on my first bottle. I use one pump/night of this green cream to cover my face and neck. I bought this because of its claim to help rosacea/red skin. I don't have rosacea, but my skin is just naturally red on my whole face, and I wanted to tone down that redness without having to wear full coverage makeup all the time. After about 1 to 2 months of using this I started noticing a difference in my redness, it started diminishing, and now theres still a little redness but it has much improved. Also, my skin is very acne prone, but this didn't cause any breakouts. It's moisturizing for my combination/oily face without needing to put anything else over this at night. I bought mine on ebay for half the price it is on skinstore.com.
Scrubs -Red Flower - Ohana gingergrass bamboo scrub
NucMed1975 2/23/2010 6:46:00 PM
I like the red flower coffee scrub, so I decided to try this. I agree with another reviewer that it feels like sawdust in liquid. To me it also feels like a very fine grained sand in non-greasy liquid. I definitely like that this isn't greasy, so cleaning out the tub is easy. But this stuff can get really messy no matter how hard I try to not be messy. In the bath tub I don't like using this because when the grains wash off of my legs, they get stuck on other parts of my body, and I have to eventually stand in the shower just to rinse the 'sawdust' residue off. So I find it easier to use this while you're taking a shower. But in the shower it just drops off my leg and onto the floor, no matter how small of an amount I scoop up in my hand. What I ended up doing to get a good foamy scrub without residue is to sit in the bathtub with wet legs but with the water drained, and scrub my legs for a few minutes, THEN i shower it off. Too much of a nuisance to buy again, but I paid too much just to let it go to waste. Diana B makes good non-greasy scrubs which I'll probably stick with.
Lipstick -Bobbi Brown - Matte Stain for Lips - Cabernet
NucMed1975 2/23/2010 6:33:00 PM
I was lucky to find this about 2 years ago at my CCO. I love this color on my NC20/25 skin. Beautiful reddish-brown on my lightly pigmented lips. I gave this baby the ultimate test when I used it while swimming in the ocean...and throughout all that salty water, it stayed put an hour later after I checked my makeup. I put this on in 2 layers with my fingers, just dabbed it on. After I let it set for a few minutes I topped it off with Fresh Sugar lip balm with spf15, so I had beatiful color AND sun protection. I wish they would bring this formula back in more colors.
Toners -Unlisted Brand - Juara Tamarind Tea Hydrating Toner
NucMed1975 2/23/2010 6:27:00 PM
I'm on my 4th or 5th bottle of this. I love this toner because it doesn't interfere with the ingredients of my other skincare products that go on after the toner (revaleskin coffeeberry cream nights/amore pacific or la mer gel cream days). I agree with the other reviewers...let the toner dry on your skin for about a minute before you apply anything over it. I love the easy to use pump bottle with my cotton pad. Great for all skin types. It doesn't really have any scent to it, and it's alcohol free.
Treatments -Dr. Brandt - Blemishes No More Intensolution
NucMed1975 2/23/2010 6:18:00 PM
I am 35 years old and have hormonal breakouts, so I was looking to replace my juara toner with something more for acne. This sounded right up my alley, but after trying it at home for one month, I haven't noticed any improvements in my hormonal breakouts. It smells like your average drugstore brand alcohol-based toner, and the bottle is big and clunky for a small amount. I wouldn't purchase this again. I'll stick with Juara toner.
I like this to keep my hormonal acne under control. I use this as my morning cleanser during my breakout periods, and in conjunction with an acne toner and moisturizer, it works well. It doesn't have a bad scent. It foams nicely. Simply a great product.
I originally bought this for my face in lieu of my regular cream moisturizer. It didn't do anything for my oily/combination face. The product didn't leave a shiny film behind, as it absorbed within 10 minutes of putting it on. It doesn't have good slip, obviously because it's just argan oil as the sole ingredient. It didn't moisturize my skin. I tried this on my hair, also, but it didn't moisturize my dry ends. I tried it for about a week, and after no facial benefits, I ended up using this as a nail oil. I won't buy it again.
Lotions/ Creams -Jo Malone - Amber & Lavender Body Creme
NucMed1975 11/5/2009 9:39:00 PM
I love the JM Amber & Lavender perfume, however the body creme is even better! I use this body creme in place of the perfume at times, there's just that much sillage. I normally apply the creme to my legs at night, then put my pajamas on, and through my clothes people can smell me as soon as they come in my house. My husband thinks it smells like some kind of creed fragrance, but he likes it on me. I normally dont go for body cremes in a perfume line, but this one is an exception. It softens my dry skin and absorbs quickly, while leaving behind a slight sheen. I don't like the glass jar. I would prefer it in a thick, clear plastic jar because I tend to drop things.
Cleansers -Unlisted Brand - Juara Skincare Rice Facial Cleanser
NucMed1975 11/5/2009 9:27:00 PM
I like this cleanser because I needed something good for my acne-prone skin that would remove my Dior Forever waterproof foundation. I don't like the oil cleansers out there, so being that this is a creamy cleanser makes it perfect. This removes my foundation completely after just one cleansing...after I swipe my face with a toner pad there is no trace of makeup left. And I like that I can use this around my eyes safely, it has no effects on my contact lenses. I like the convenience of the pump. I use 2 pumps of product to remove my makeup. My face doesn't feel squeaky and dry after washing, just nice and soft. Will definitely repurchase.
This is a great leave in conditioner for my long, thick, dry, wavy hair with oily scalp. I like phyto 7 much better than phyto 9 (the 9 makes my hair too greasy and weighed down.) I use about a quarter size and rub it all over my hair except for my scalp. It doesn't do a fantastic job detangling, but it's better than having no detangling factor. I've tried other leave in conditioners from high end lines but they really weight my hair down. So far, Phyto 7 is the best I can find for my hair type as far as leave in treatments go. There's no scent so it doesn't interfere with the perfume I'm wearing. This 1.7 oz tube lasts me for about 3-4 weeks (and I wash my hair every other day.)
