Blush -Clinique - Blushing Blush Powder Blush in Aglow
Nosroma 3/20/2008 2:18:00 PM
I just got this last weekend and I love it! I recently needed to switch makeup because my HG foundation got "reformulated" and my mom and I were at the Clinque counter and the girl put some of this on me and I had to buy it. I haven't used Clinque stuff in ages, but this is really beautiful on. I'm very pale, so a lot of blushes and bronzers look heavy or dark on me, even in the smallest quantities - but this is the perfect shade and gives me a nice rosy glow. I have sensitive skin and so far haven't had any problems with itching, etc. I also like the compact and brush provided - I think you get a decent amount for the price (and you don't need very much so it should last awhile) and I like the mirrored surface of the compact because if you're using it on the road you can check your coverage. The brush provided is nice and soft, angled and decent quality for a freebie. Will purchase again if I ever run out.

Other -Crest - Whitestrips

These did nothing for my teeth. I had my teeth professionally whitened ages ago and hoped I could use these to maintain my results - no such luck. They just left a bad taste in my mouth, no improved whitening (and not everyone knows this, but professional whitening doesn't last forever, your teeth eventually return to their old shade) and mine have - bummer - but I'm going to try the new Aquafresh trays and see how that goes. It's still cheaper than $600 bucks at my dentist for professional whitening so it's worth a shot.

Treatments -Murad - Acne Management Formula
Nosroma 3/19/2008 10:34:00 PM
I hated this stuff. I kept seeing the infomercial and thought, "why not?" I developed acne a few years ago as an adult and have really been at a loss on what to do about it and how to treat it - thought I'd give this a shot. Big mistake. Took years for my skin to recover. The "purging" process never ended, I developed huge cysts that left scars (that I still have, almost 3 years later) and it enlarged my pores - they're still huge (I mean it's not like they were small before, but they weren't THIS big!). Sent the products back and never got a refund - even though it's guaranteed. I know some people love these skin care systems, some have even "cured" their acne - and that's wonderful, I wish I could be one of those lucky ones. Sadly, there is a large population of us out there who's acne makes no sense - there is no rhyme or reason to it - and unfortunately, these systems just aren't meant for us.

Moisturizers -Neutrogena - Combination Skin Moisture Oil Free
Nosroma 3/19/2008 10:29:00 PM
This is the only moisturizer I've used for the past couple years. I have super sensitive skin with mild/moderate acne and this doesn't break me out, but I don't think it really helps my skin much either. But I've learned lately (due to developing product allergies) to just keep things simple, and this is a nice simple moisturizer. Not too heavy, not too light. I tend to dry out a little lately in the winter, so I'm trying to find another moisturizer that is a little heavier to pair it with, but this is great for the other 3 seasons - we just have really tough New England weathers that destroy your skin. I wish the packaging was different, that it was clear or something so you'd know how much was left but I'll keep buying it until I find something better.

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser
Nosroma 3/19/2008 10:25:00 PM
I recently developed all these allergies to a lot of beauty products and so my dermatologist has me on Cetaphil only - and although I'm not in love with it, it really helps my poor sensitive skin to heal. I find it a bit drying though (which is weird for me because I have combo skin that is super oily in places, haven't had a dry patch in a long time!) but combined with a good moisturizer it's more effective. I think I'm going to cut down to using this once a day and using CeraVe in the morning (also given to me by the dermatologist). I must admit that spending only $8 bucks or so on a face wash is pretty refreshing given the hundreds of dollars I've shelled out for face wash before. I'm learning a new lesson in my life: keep it simple. Cetaphil is just that, simple.

Styling Products -Matrix - Sleek Look Sealing Serum
Nosroma 3/19/2008 10:21:00 PM
This is good but not great. I've purchased it a couple times, but you get so little in the bottle for your money. I think the Paul Mitchell sleek serum works better for me.

Styling Products -Matrix - Sleek.Look Iron Smoother
Nosroma 3/19/2008 10:20:00 PM
This is good but not great - but, I don't have a lot to compare it too since it's the first iron smoother I've ever used. I love the sleek look line so I purchased it, but probably won't purchase again since I'm not even halfway through my bottle (after a year!). I find that a light spray works best with this, too much and my hair looks greasy and heavy.

Styling Products -Matrix - Matrix sleek.look Extreme smoothing cream
Nosroma 3/19/2008 10:18:00 PM
This is the best smoothing cream I've tried for my hair so far. I accidently bought the "lite" version last time and need to go back to the "extreme" - not sure why, my hair is sort of thin, I just have a lot of it and it's very long and some days, it thinks it is wavy - but this really helps tame it when I put it in wet and blow dry. I like the sleek look stuff because it isn't really smelly - and I'm a freak about the way things smell, especially if you're wearing it all day, etc.

Styling Products -Matrix - Sleek.look Lite Smoothing Cream
Nosroma 3/19/2008 10:15:00 PM
I like this smoothing cream a lot - I put it in my hair while it's wet and then blow dry and it really helps tame it - I'm only not purchasing it again because last time I bought the "lite" by accident and I really need to go back to using the "extreme" version.

Conditioner -Matrix - Sleek.look conditioner
Nosroma 3/19/2008 10:13:00 PM
I love this conditioner - I use the shampoo as well. Tames my temperamental hair. I gave it a 2 for packaging because, while the bottles are good quality, I wish they had the caps on the bottom. I have to lean mine upside down in the shower to get the rest out, and with those little tiny tops, it's always falling over.

Shampoo -Matrix - Sleek.look Shampoo
Nosroma 3/19/2008 10:12:00 PM
I love this shampoo. My hair is a little wacky, some days it decides to be straight, other days it thinks it's wavy - but this shampoo really tames it. I gave it a 2 for packaging because, while the bottles are good quality, I wish they had the caps on the bottom. I have to lean mine upside down in the shower to get the rest out, and with those little tiny tops, it's always falling over.

Liquid -Cover Girl - TruBlend
Nosroma 3/19/2008 10:09:00 PM
Please come back! I miss this old formula so much! It was the only foundation I could use, and now I'm beside myself trying to find a new one. I loved that I could buy it dirt cheap at CVS and it worked better with my skin (for some unknown reason) than the pricer stuff I used to buy at the mall. Tried the "new" formula - TERRIBLE - but, I emailed my complaints to CoverGirl and they are sending me a refund without even asking for it - so the company gets mucho bonus points for me.

Liquid -Cover Girl - TRUblend Liquid Makeup (12/2007 reformulation)
Nosroma 3/19/2008 10:07:00 PM
HATE THIS! I used the old formula for as long as I can remember. I don't know why I loved the old one so much, but it worked so well for my crazy combo/senstive skin, gave fantastic coverage over all my redness and went toe-to-toe with my LM products - they worked in such great harmony. The NEW formula is terrible - watery, no coverage and doesn't work well with any of my other makeup. It turns my concealer into weird white patches, settles into every pore on my face and highlights all of my trouble spots rather than covering them. I will say this though, CoverGirl is a great company - I emailed them, basically begging to get the old formula back, and I got a wonderful, sincere message from someone in customer service who is sending me a refund - even though I didn't ask for one! I'm on the hunt for a new foundation now, but one thing is for sure - this is going in the trash! (Or on my swap list if you want to try it out for free!).

Blush -Laura Mercier - Cheek Colour (powder blushes)
Nosroma 11/26/2007 3:55:00 PM
I have this blush in Orange Blossom and I love it. I was never a big blush fan - but I noticed my face really needed some more color (after completely covering it with foundation and concealer - I looked like a blank canvas!) so I went to the LM counter at Bloomie's and the SA was super helpful. She helped me pick the right shade and even showed me how to correctly apply it. I find that the LM blushes give much more of a natural blushing tint than anything else I've seen so far.

Loose Powders -Laura Mercier - Secret Brightening Powder
Nosroma 11/26/2007 3:46:00 PM
I've been using this powder for a year or so - and my feelings on it are lukewarm. I use the Secret Camouflage concealer, and then brush this over my whole face to set everything. It does give me a nice soft look, but I find most powders do that anyways (isn't that what powder is made for? To soften everything...?) But it doesn't look cakey - like some others on the market. I don't feel such a small amount is worth the price, but, I'm a huge LM fan and I can usually stretch it out to last at least 6 months.
