ever since Max Factor stopped selling in the US (*SOB!!*) I've been trying to find a cheapie replacement for my HG 2000 Calorie Aqua Lash mascara. this ain't it. :| I picked up a tube of this thinking, "eh, if I hate it, it's only a $6 lesson, right?" right -- that's EXACTLY what this is: a $6 lesson :P panda eyes in less than 4 hrs, and I don't have oily eyelids or live in a humid climate. BAH. the search continues...

Lotions/ Creams -Boots - Mediterranean Olive Wheatgerm and Honey Body Butter

I picked this up on a whim, and as soon as I opened the jar and inhaled, I was totally hooked -- I *LOVE* the smell of this stuff!! I suppose it's also nice that it feels nourishing w/o being greasy, has a very smooth texture and a luxuriously rich consistency, is very affordable, blah blah blah; nevermind all that, I practially BATHE in the stuff in Summer b/c it smells absolutely, totally sexy-licious!! (and if that wasn't a word before, it is now!) my only teeny-tiny complaint is the jar -- I'm not really a big fan of sticking my fingers IN product, so if they ever repackaged this in a large-orifice collapsible tube, I'd be in complete HEAVEN!! <3 but even if it stays in its current low-profile wide jar, I'll continue to buy more of it for as long as it has this sweet, citrusy, perfectly summery scent -- YUM!!!

Cleansers -Boots - Botanics Moisturising Deep Clean Foam
rated 5 of 5

I don't know why I've taken so long to review this product, b/c I really like it -- use it on a facial sponge to clean my face in the shower in the mornings... btw, a little goes a long way w/this cleanser, so I'm still working my way through the tube I bought ~1 yr ago...! light scent, nice consistency and texture, rinses cleanly w/o leaving any greasy afterfeel but my skin feels soft and smooth (I do notice a bit of tightening after I dry off, but I blame that on my hard water more than anything else); the price is very reasonable, and it's readily available at Target... when I finally run out of my tube of Deep Clean Foam, I'll definitely be buying more!

Styling Products -Bumble & Bumble - Bb Shine

glad to see I'm not the only one who finds the smell of this product totally offensive...! I'll certainly never buy any more of this stuff -- the little bit of barely noticeable shine is hardly a strong counterpoint to the asphyxiating clouds you end up choking on when you actually try to use it, and IMO it's WAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced for what you get (mostly a stinky bathroom that still takes almost 20 mins to clear out even w/the overhead fan on!)... I give it one lippie only b/c I can't give it zero!

Mascara -Max Factor - 2000 Calorie Aqua Lash
rated 5 of 5
MommiePretty 3/7/2008 10:26:00 PM

I keep coming back to this mascara -- I've tried other drugstore brands, department store brands, boutique brands, exclusive "dang near impossible to find and expensive as heck" brands; so far I have yet to find anything that impresses me so much that I'll throw over my Max Factor 2000 Calorie Aqua Lash for it... I usually get the Brown Black (I'm blonde), and I've never had a problem finding it at my local Wal-Mart for <$6...

Lips -Aromaleigh - aromatherapy lip balm [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
MommiePretty 3/7/2008 10:06:00 PM

my lips love these balms! I found Aromaleigh after they'd started outsourcing their lip balms, and those (now discontinued luscious lips soothing) balms weren't awful, but they weren't anything I'd take the time to review, either; however, just a few months ago, AL's owner brought the lip balms back in house and revived the aromatherapy line -- I went ahead and got a full size of Italian Blood Orange (I almost NEVER purchase f/s before getting a sample), and I've never looked back... smooth consistency going on, no greasy or waxy feel, light scent -- these are my HG balms! love love love <3 <3 <3

Makeup Brushes -Aromaleigh - Fiber Optic Blush Mineral Makeup Cosmetic Brush [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
MommiePretty 3/7/2008 7:29:00 PM

this is my HG blush brush -- I tend to favour ultra-pigmented colours like Rocks! Sonic Rouge (which I *adore*), but this brush works quite nicely w/sheerer blushes as well... the fact that the brush itself is so incredibly soft also makes me feel more confident that I'm looking at rouge colour on my cheeks and not skin flush from friction/irritation from the brush... NOTE: AL recently upgraded their FO blush brush -- looks much nicer than the old one (and has a higher price tag to match @ $17.95 ea), but I'm bound to buy one here soon...

Blush -Aromaleigh - Rocks! Sonic Rouge [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
MommiePretty 3/7/2008 7:12:00 PM

I have four colours of Aromaleigh's Rocks! Sonic Rouge -- wildflower, firewoman, femmefatale, and breathless -- and I love them all!! the unbelievably rich pigmentation of these rouges means I'll probably never, ever run out of them b/c I can use such a tiny amount and still get great colour payoff... IMO Rocks! Sonic Rouges are best applied w/AL's fiber-optic blush brush -- gives me a sheer wash of colour that makes my cheeks POP w/a gorgeous flush, w/o looking clownish... the colours do look terrifying at first (I think it took me almost 3 mos to finally work up the nerve just to buy samples), but they're shockingly lovely on...

Treatments (Eye) -Booths - Black Licorice Eye Cream
rated 5 of 5
MommiePretty 5/2/2007 10:10:00 AM

this is the very first review I've written on MUA, but this eye treatment is so amazing I just had to post about it! when I first discovered Black Licorice Eye Cream, there were only two reviews posted about it, but they both gave this product top marks, and it sounded like it'd do what I wanted it to (reduce puffiness, fine lines, and dark circles), so I went ahead and popped over to drugstore.com (so far as I know, that's the only place to buy this stuff) and was totally caught off guard by the overwhelmingly positive reviews of this same product over there -- that pretty much convinced me that I *had* to try it, especially since it was under $15 (less than my old eye treatment, which was only okay)... I'm VERY happy to report that I've not been disappointed! after only THREE DAYS of using this Black Licorice Eye Cream, there's NO puffiness, the fine lines that were starting to appear (I'm 35) are barely noticeable now, and the dark circles (hereditary -- I usually get enough sleep, unless one of the kids has a bad night or something) under my eyes have all but disappeared...! I'm very pleasantly surprised to find a product that 1) does what it says it will and 2) doesn't cost a small fortune!! the licorice smell is mild and doesn't linger; the cream is rich w/o being thick, goes on smoothly, absorbs quickly, and feels like an absolute DREAM; you only need the tiniest bit, so even a 0.5 fl oz (15 ml) pot will last a long time; and anyone who has complaints about it being packaged in a little pot can easily overcome that objection by using cosmetic spatulas (I bought mine on eBay, use them for everything from mud masks to salt scrubs)... I love Love LOVE this eye cream and will continue to use it for as long as I can get it!! definitely a new HG for me -- nothing less than 5 lippies!
