In the tube and even on my hand this is a gorgeous color. But on my lips there is NO color. Not even with a lipliner(not the one with the kit) or lipstick under it. It looks like the perfect nude/J-Lo shade. What a disappointment. Add to that it has VERY little staying power and the brush is lower quality. I do like the clear liner and will purchase it seperately.
Lotions/ Creams -Lather - Sofian Lavender Whipped Body Creme
ModChick 4/30/2006 12:37:00 AM
I agree with everything staci23 said. This is a great product! It is similiar in texture to the Kukui Nut Creme. It's luxurious, smells wonderful and feels great. And as she says, it's a pleasing, soft lavender, NOT medicinal. LOVE Lather!
As a gardener (and beauty junkie) I've been trying to figure out the notes in this scent. I found this description online after doing a search: "This is the scent you wear with jeans & a white t-shirt. It's an almost green fragrance that combines leaves, shoots & stems of seedlings. Top note is Mackayi orchid with white gardenia & pink peony blending with bergamot, magnolia & honeysuckle." It's WONDERFUL. (no pun intended). Walking around Kohls after it had to "settle" on my skin I got a headache and thought "oh no". But, I just wasn't feeling well that day and it wasn't related to the fragrance. How do I know? I went back and tested a couple more times. It's clean and fresh but has just enough florals in it (which I can take or leave usually) to make it a bit more feminine than grassy/modern. Jeans, t-shirt, suit, dress. Wear them all if you love this scent. Going to pick it up today.
Description from Annick Goutal: Des Lys is like a large amount of great white lilies mixed with a few strong heady Casablanca's lilies. Their heady scent has been mixed with a fresh and impertinent scent, a large white and green bouquet, a tender freshness highlighted by the generosity of Casablanca's lilies. It's the most wonderful scent. Very fresh and clean, yet feminine and soft. One of the few lily and Annick Goutal scents I like. Worth the price but can be found on sale at times.
I have used this for just over 2 weeks and see no change in my lips. I exfoliate first with C.O. Bigelow to fully prep and still nothing. While I am not opposed to a cumulative effect, I also want a plumper to give me at least a LITTLE bit of plump immediately. I have the tingling, in fact it burns a bit so it FEELS like it should be working, but nothing. I've applied it daily, day and night. I do have a tiny bit of flush to my lips but nothing compared to philosophy's Big Mouth. Big Mouth plumps right away, doesn't burn as much, doesn't have that cinnamon taste (YUCK) and gives me ALOT of color. The only thing with it is it doesn't last long. I'm taking this back to BBW as I think I've tried it long enough to see even a bit of change. Someone told me to try it for 2 months but that will negate a refund as it's exceeding the 30 day policy. Sticking with Big Mouth for now but considering the Goldie plumper at BBW. One GOOD thing about the Wexler plumper is the brush applicator. I hate sponges so this was a nice change. Too bad the product itself doesn't work for me. 2 lippies for the brush and price.
I was excited to try this for 2 reasons: I thought it would be the same quality or better as the bar soap and less messy. It's similar to the bar soap, cleanses about as well (I had little makeup left on my face) and it's definately less messy. HOWEVER, I am returning it as I had such an allergic reaction to it that I nearly stopped breathing. I have no idea what ingredient caused that but I am going back to the bar soap which I like well enough anyways. The price is good, it does clean well and the packaging is convenient so I'm giving it 3 stars because what happened to me is a rarity and certainly it doesn't in any way mean it will happen to anyone else. Obviously not repurchasing though. :(
Lipstick -Flirt - Chickstick Smooth & Shiny Lipcolor in Angel
ModChick 2/5/2006 1:22:00 PM
I agree with the previous poster about this color. You will definately have the J-Lo thing going and this shade is perfect with smokey eyes. Think serious 60's mod. I have VERY pale skin and I can still pull it off. I'd prefer it to be a tiny bit more matte, but it's moisturizing and for the price I'm very pleased. Can't wait to try some of the other chicksticks as well as more items from the entire line.
This is currently my favorite fragrance. So clean, fresh and pure smelling. It is by far my favorite of the Grace trio. Not musky and dated like Amazing Grace nor is it Ivory soap + dishwashing liquid scented like Pure Grace. The powdery scent is very mild and doesn't smell the slightest like diaper ointment or deodorant. Kinda like baby soap or powder with just enough grown up notes to give it a twist. You will not smell like a newborn. Baby Grace mixes nicely with the other Graces,I simply don't like AG & PG worn alone, and I also wear that combo on occasion. If you are looking for a sexy, powerful scent, BG is not it. It's very subtle. The only drawback to it and all of the philosophy fragrances is they do not last long. So carry a component with you to reapply a few hours into the day regardless of which scent you use. I wear Baby Grace year round and receive compliments on it nearly everytime I'm out. It also doesn't irritate my allergies, nor my husband's. That in and of itself is quite an accomplishment as fragrance is generally a no-no in our house. 4 rating due to the staying power.
Liquid -Clinique - Superfit Foundation [DISCONTINUED]
ModChick 10/31/2005 10:25:00 AM
Despite using Shell, it's orange on my face. Serious Oompa Loompa syndrome. It cakes not only my eczema areas, but areas on my face that normally aren't dry. It's flaky and the coverage is blotchy. The container opening is of poor quality as well. VERY messy and difficult to use because the foundation practically poors out of it from barely touching the bottle. Which means foundation ends up on me, my vanity, even the floor at times. I only purchased this as a substitue for the Pore-Minimizer Makeup which has been discontinued and the new version of it isn't yet available at the Clinique counter. BIG mistake. This doesn't conceal anything, instead it accentuates problem areas and my pores look LARGER using the Superfit Makeup. Horrible product and the only Clinique item I've ever rated a 1.
Gels/Soaps -Bath and Body Works - Fresh Waterfall Mist
ModChick 10/1/2005 2:05:00 PM
This was the most refreshing scent I ever used from BBW. Very clean and light and it was part of the now defunct water series. The products layered nicely without being overpowering and were subtle yet lasted several hours into the day. Alas, BBW discontinued it and went back to the tacky, fruity scents. No longer am I customer at BBW because the scents are horrible now and the stores are more crowded with displays and hard to navigate than ever. If I want fruity, food smells I'll use Philosophy. At least I get a recipe with those products.
Terrible. Supposed to be better than the ones you pick up in the grocery line for 99 cents but they aren't. They are not for precise tweezing or ingrown hairs. Not delicate at all but rather bulky, minimal slant and they pinch. Time to finally splurge and buy a high quality pair.
Masks -Principal Secret - Principal Secret Advanced Pore Minimizing DetoxMask
ModChick 9/22/2005 2:43:00 AM
The description of this product is as follows: PSAPMDM "is formulated to purify the skin on your face and neck. With its unique bouquet of vitamins, minerals, and botanicals, it gently removes dirt, toxins, and impurities that build up in your skin throughout the day. The innovative formulation even features a tightening agent to help diminish the appearance of pore size." The result for me, it WORKS. I use this mask 1-2 times per week and I love it. My skin looks and feels great afterwards. It does help to clean the skin and aid in the removal blackheads. It does make my skin appear smoother, tighter and and even. No redness, no shine, just glow. It's easy to apply and rinse off. Five minutes on. No scent. Other than the lid (screw off) I have no complaints. $21.25 @ QVC (plus ingredient list)or direct from the PS catalog. 4 lippies due to the cap.
First let me say that my combo (oily t-zone, dry/eczema everywhere else)skin tends to dislike drugstore products. That said, I still give in and try them because, as we all know, too many "high end" products are way overpriced for what one gets. I finally decided to try the QHMJM after hearing how great it is. BIG! mistake. My skin is blotchy, feels dirty, it is red, dry in some areas(I didn't put it on my eczema) yet still oily where it was before the mask, hence the mask did NOT take away the oil on my nose. I have red bumps and my eyes are burning a bit. Pores appear larger rather than smaller, I swear my facial lines are more prominent and now my face smells. I don't mind the sulphur odor from a product that actually delivers what it promises but this mask failed miserably. Principal Secret Detox mask does MUCH better than this, doesn't smell and although more expensive, it actually works for me very well. Better results, also from Avon's Porefection mask and Biore's new shine control. I'd cry my skin looks so bad but it will only add to the redness. Thank goodness I only paid $2.99 for this @ CVS. Probably the worst thing I've ever done to my face and I've done alot to it in 33 years. EDIT: Originally I gave this a 2 because my face was smooth and it's not a messy tube, BUT my face in the last hour has become more oily than when I wrote this review, it's itching and burning. Clearly an allergic reaction. Glad this works for many of you but this mask is not for me. :(
Misc Beauty Tools -Mally Beauty - Get the Last Lash Eyelash Curler
ModChick 9/22/2005 12:25:00 AM
This product works very well for me. It curls my lashes from the lash line as well as the hard to reach innner and outer corners. I have no problems using it at all and so far it's the best lash curler I've tried. NO PINCHING! :)It also fits well with my fingers which helps in the technique. Some curlers are just clunky to use. Comes in a pink pouch which is a nice for palm/hand sized products. It also has two extra refills but I suspect I won't need to use them for quite awhile as the one that came installed cleans up easily.
I have been using the 3-step system for 2 months and this is the best my skin has looked in about 9 yrs. My skin is smoother, more even, brighter and FAR less flareups. In fact I've only had 2-3 small pimples since I started this regimen and they were gone within a day of appearing. My makeup applies better, is lasting longer and I'm using less. Which means I am saving some money on the cosmetic side. Yes, this line is a bit pricey, but it's well worth it if the products actually work. I've also had no problems combining with other items in the line. I was hestitant about using a soap, but it is not drying (type II, combo/dry w/some oily & eczema) at all on my skin and it feels so clean after this and the toner. DDML works fine, even on my very dry areas and all are fragrance free. I'm getting compliments on my skin again! Great system. Remember if you try it and don't like it, you can return it. 30 day guarantee w/receipt I was told.
