Foundations -Max Factor - Colour Adapt
Mitzy77 6/21/2012 4:52:00 PM
I absolutely love this foundation. I have combination skin which seems to switch between dry and sensitive to slightly oily. I normally use the Max Factor liquid illusion foundation in Ivory, but recently my skin has been slightly dry. I decided to try the Colour Adapt foundation because I thought it might be better for dryer skin. I wasn't disappointed! I have never used a foundation with a texture like Colour Adapt. It is really strange, but in a good way. It has a velvety texture, that makes it feel so luxurious that you would expect it to be really expensive. But it isn't (cost around £12). The foundation glides on no problem, even over slightly dry patches. It should work out very cost effective because you only need the slightest amount to cover your face, even half a pump full is too much. You would be forgiven for thinking that it was an oily foundation saying it glides on so well. This is not the case, as the foundation leaves a matt finish. Colour Adapt evens out my complexion but is still light weight enough to be able to see my freckles, so I'm happy, because I like a natural look. I am so impressed with this foundation I can not recommend it enough. I will definitely keep repurchasing.

Moisturizers -Chanel - Hydramax Cream
Mitzy77 10/19/2011 3:51:00 PM
Just in case anyone is pondering whether to buy the Hydramax cream or Hydramax gel (as I had been for ages), I thought it may be helpful to write my Hydramax cream review which also compares the cream with with the Hydramax gel. After many months of deliberating, I finally decided to purchase a pot of the Hydramax cream. I normally use the Hydramax gel (sometimes with the Hydramax serum), but this year my skin seems to be much drier so I thought I would try the cream version as it is supposed to be richer than the gel, and more suitable for older/drier skin. It was my intention that once I had bought the cream version of Hydramax, that I would no longer need to use the Hydramax serum, but unfortunately this was not the case. Although the cream is richer in texture, once on the skin it just feels like many other facial creams that are similar in price. Once applied to the face, the cream does feel thicker than the gel but I actually find the gel to be more moisturising for my skin because it sinks straight in. Where as the cream seems to sit on top of my skin for a long time before gradually sinking in - but never quite as good as the gel. But because the cream does not sink in as well as the gel, I tend not to put as much on - so the cream will last longer. Unfortunately, I find I have to use the Hydramax serum every single time I use the cream (morning and night), but with the gel I only use the serum when my skin feels dry. Therefore even though I will be using less cream than gel, I will actually be spending more as I have to use the serum every time I use the cream. Other than this, both the Hydramax cream and gel have the same fresh cucumbery smell and both products are suitable for my very sensitive skin. I will definitely not be repurchasing the cream, whilst the gel will always be a part of my skincare ritual.

Hair -Unlisted Brand - Almond Oil
Mitzy77 10/16/2011 4:06:00 PM
Pure Almond Oil is one of my top beauty products, it has a multitude of uses, it is very cheap and absorbs fantastically into the skin - although it should be used sparingly as less is definitely more in this case! I don't buy a specific brand but I normally purchase through my Chemist, making sure that what I buy is 100% natural Sweet Almond Oil. My love of Almond oil started a couple of years ago when a friend of mine suggested using it on my scalp to ease my eczema. I used it for several months mixed with shampoo (half and half). Although it didn't cure my eczema on my scalp, it did relieve it slightly and it gave my hair an excellent shine. At that time my hair was very dry and damaged with highlighting so I was very impressed with my new sheen. Since then I have discovered it makes an excellent eye make up remover. Massaged into the skin around my eyes and then wiped off with cotton wool or rinsed with water. A word of warning with this though, I once put too much on my eyelids and under my eyes before I went to bed. When I awoke in the morning, the skin under my eyes and my eyelids had puffed up so much that I looked like I had been crying all night. Therefore I suggest using a minimal amount around the delicate eye area. Lately I have started using the oil all over my face as a make up remover. I rub a small amount into my skin and then wash it off with water. Used with water the oil does not leave an oily residue like I would have expected! I do this on an evening every other day. Even washed off with water, it moisturises so well that I do not need to use a moisturiser afterwards. I also use Almond oil as a body moisturiser after bathing and as a hand moisturiser (again used sparingly). I will definitely be repurchasing!

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Colossal
Mitzy77 9/8/2011 10:52:00 AM
I bought this mascara bacause I am trying to save money. In order to do so I have been trying to replace some of my more expensive brands with cheaper versions. Unforunately in this case it wasn't worth the money I spent. The mascara left my eyelashes looking and feeling very gloupy and sticky after one coat. Therefore leaving me looking like a child that had just raided their mum's make-up-bag. The Maybelline Volum' Express Colossal is deffinitaly not a mascara that you can build up with coats. Even just a second coat will leave you looking like you have splodgy/ blotchy taranchula eyelashes. Other than the price, the only good thing I have found about this mascara is the fact that it seems to curl my eyelashes - which I do find quite nice and unusual. Wouldn't it be nice if the eyelash curling part could be made into a non gloupy formula? Anyway, in summery, I will deffinitaly not be repurchasing.

Treatments -Chanel - Hydramax + Active Serum
Mitzy77 9/3/2011 11:41:00 AM
I've been using the Hydramax Serum for about 6 months now, after getting a free sample from a Chanel counter. At first I was bitterly disappointed with the results because it dried my face out. A quick trip to a Chanel counter revealed I had been using it incorrectly as a moisturiser on its own - Doh! I was told to put it on every evening after cleansing and then to wait a few minutes before applying my moisturiser. Used the correct way, in conjunction with a moisturiser (I use the Hydramax gel moisturiser) the serum instantly rehydrates my skin, leaving it soft and silky . It seems to sink straight into my skin without leaving an oily residue. At first I used it every evening but soon discovered I was getting under skin pimples. Now I only use it when my skin feels dry or has dried out from using another product. Used this way I have really made my bottle last. This product is expensive - I paid about £72. However, I have had my bottle for about 4 months now and I expect it to last until Xmas. The bottle has a pump which means there's no wastage and I find one pump is enough to cover my face and neck. In my opinion it is money well spent!

Treatments (Eye) -Clinique - All About Eyes
Mitzy77 9/2/2011 5:52:00 PM
A few years ago I would have sworn by this eye treatment as it did work really well as an under eye moisturiser. I can't comment on whether it reduces the appearance of shadows or under eye lines because I did not have anything like that at the time. I simply used the eye treatment as a moisturiser and as a means of preventing future bags and lines. However, it is quite expensive and I have since discovered several drug store products that are far less pricey but do exactly the same job. Therefore I will not be repurchasing.

Skincare - Face -Clinique - 3 Step System
Mitzy77 9/2/2011 5:00:00 PM
This product completely dried my skin out. I felt the moisturiser was far too watery and the clarifying lotion was too harsh. I persevered with it for a couple of weeks, thinking that my skin would eventually get used to it. Unfortunately it got worst and I came out in red patches. In fact, this was the worst reaction I have ever had to a product! The skin on my nose was so red and sore that my nose resembled that of a clown! Once I stopped using the 3 Step System, my skin healed well. I thought maybe my reaction was because my Clinique Skincare Advisor had possibly made a mistake in my assessment, so I went to another store and repeated the process. The second evaluation basically recommended the same products as the first. Therefore I have come to the conclusion that the 3 Step System is just not suitable for my skin.

Foundations -Max Factor - Miracle Touch Liquid Illusion Foundation
Mitzy77 9/2/2011 4:26:00 PM
This is my favourite foundation of all time. I use Ivory 40, which I think is the lightest shade there is. Even so, It gives me an even, glowing complexion, without being too heavy in coverage. I prefer light coverage, therefore I don't use alot of this product so one tub lasts me around 3 months (used once a day). I know the packaging has recieved some negative comments, but I really love the shape and the way it pieces together. It was a good idea from Max Factor to keep the sponge in a separate compartment from the foundation. I find in other compacts that when the sponge is left in the foundation, too much is soaked into the sponge making it difficult to get a light coverage. The only problem I have had with Miracle Touch has been when my skin has reacted to another product. I found the foundation doesn't cover dry patches well, and leaves my skin looking rather flakey in parts. However, so far I haven't found a foundation that does cover dry patches and as I have my skin under control at the moment this problem doesn't bother me too much.

Mascara -Lancome - Hypnose
Mitzy77 9/2/2011 7:34:00 AM
This is simply the best mascara I have ever used! My eyelashes are quite fine with blond tips, but one application of this mascara immediately makes them look much longer and thicker! I absolutely love the fact that you can build this mascara up with extra coates (even hours apart), without it appearing gloupy or sticky. This makes it the ideal mascara for a minimalistic work look, whilst still giving it the RuPaul Wow factor for a night out ............ Okay, slight exaggeration there, but Hypnose deffinitaly builds up eyelashes and makes them appear thicker in a classy and sophisticated way.

Cleansers -Chanel - LAIT CONFORT creamy cleansing milk confort+Anti pollution-Face and eyes
Mitzy77 9/1/2011 7:15:00 AM
I started using this product after saving several free samples in squirty tubes. I started using my free samples about 4 weeks ago, on an evening. In my opinion this is an excellent cleanser, although it is quite watery in texture so I tend to use a generous amount. This works well enough to remove all of my makeup with one application, including (suprisingly) my black kohl and mascara! I have to add that whilst all of my makeup is removed with one application, the cleanser is not harsh on my skin, even around my delicate eye area. After rinsing this product, my skin is left feeling peachy soft and I do not feel dried out in the slightest. I'm very choosy when it comes to scented products and if given a choice I tend to prefer non-scented versions. This is another area where the Chanel Lait Confort does not disappoint! Although it has a strong smell to me, it smells absolutely divine! Smelling strongest, strangely, after the product has been rinsed off and for about 30 minutes after. Overall, I'm completely smitten with this cleanser. The only reason I have marked it down is because of the cost. Although I will be purchasing again. In this case you do actually get what you pay for, therefore, the cost is mostly worth the benefits!

Moisturizers -Chanel - Hydramax + Active Moisture Gel Cream [DISCONTINUED]
Mitzy77 8/17/2011 5:26:00 AM
I have been using this gel cream for over a year now. As suggested by the Chanel advisor, I use it both mornings and on an evening after cleansing (I don't tone because it agrivates my skin). I have found this to be a very good moisturiser which absorbes straight into my skin and leaves it feeling silky soft. I have to be very careful because I have very sensitive skin. I find many moisturisers sting my face and bring me out in red dry patches, especially those that are perfumed! Luckily, this is something that the Chanel Hydromax gel does not do to me. When my skin is feeling particularly dry, I use the gel and the Chanel Hydromax syrum together for instant relief. Although I am careful not to use them too often, because if I do, I end up over moisturising and breaking out in pimples. I have been a bit of a cosmetics junkie in the past, trying every cream and lotion going, but out of them all I would say that this moisturiser is the best I have ever purchased. Every time I try another brand I always end up going straight back to Hydromax. I'm not giving this product full marks for 2 reasons. Firstly, I would prefer the gel not to have perfume in it. Although the smell is fresh I do find it to be quite strong for a moituriser. Secondly, I think the gel could be slightly more moisturising. I know that there is a cream version which is more moisturising. However, I have tried it on my hand and it felt too thick for my skin. Often thick creams bring me out in spots.
