Styling Products -Alterna - Bamboo Volume Uplifting Root Blast
MissJacqui85 1/15/2013 1:52:00 PM
Had this touted to me as a cult following HG kinda product which sells out and has people running in to snatch it off the shelves ...was looking to replace my HG volume spray (David Babaii volcanic ash root amplifier) which was tragically (for me:) discontinued .... This does nothing like what the DB one did ....it gives some volume ...but not enough ....it also smells foul-not a pleasure to apply. (And I never use the word foul, please let me stress that... I think it's a weird and unpleasant sounding word lol) this spray can also build up in hair and make it feel gunky and heavy.....it doesn't have any residue feel like a hair spray, so it didn't texturise or coat the strands....now I use this as an expensive dry shampoo after gym...it's more effective that way.... The lid /spray top area looks cheap and unfinished -it looks like the skeleton underneath the cap- I actually thought my can was broken/malfunction etc and their is no lid to go around the plastic hand gun trigger mechanism ....it feels wrong and unfinished . Oh and did I mention how unpleasant the smell was for me? Who pays to make their hair smell rotten?? I don't understand because the Kendi oil and volume conditioner are from the same bamboo range and smell divine ?? How did this hurt so bad for my nose?
Beautiful conditioner which really seems to treat and feed the ends if my hair ...rather than coat it in slip. Beautiful smell....have used with the Bamboo Kendi oil-a few drops added, which gave an extra boost. The lid is poor....you have to really get some arm action into flicking the bottle down to squeeze product out...I leave this standing upside down as a result...pump would have been much better . Only complaint a about this product though:)
Ok so this is an unbiased review...as I WAS onbsessed with this brands root amplifying spray which has *sob* been discontinued...that was my hands down most favourite product ever... This mousse however ....is hands down the most underwhelming product I have ever had to use...if anything it makes my hair limp.... And it also makes the crown area look unwashed and unstyled. Extremely unhappy with this product...tried it on damp hair, dry hair and wet hair ...no difference. Probably most annoyed about shelling out hard earned cash on this product than Anything else I have purchased before....yes it was that bad for me. Sorry David Babaii-but stick with what works: bring back the volcanic ash root amplifying spray and can THIS one because this was a very poor substitute.
Styling Products -Alterna - Alterna Bamboo Smooth - Kendi Oil

The reviews on here are so mixed I almost didn't purchase this oil, but they had a tester in the salon I purchased it in. So I applied a small amount to dry hair, as did the over zealous sales girl to her own hair (who claimed she uses it daily and it doesn't weigh hers down.) I loved the way it smoothed my hair and didn't make it look limp and unwashed. It's almost like it refreshes your hair? Can't put my finger on it, but I am impressed. My hair has never been coloured, bleached streaked rinsed you name it, Virgin hair ...and I do not straighten it, and I curl it maybe once every 5months:) so it is very healthy, with no damage, very shiny etc No, this is not a brag-a-thon about my hair; what I am trying to illustrate is it is very difficult to improve the condition of my hair, or to impress me.... But also because my hair is so naturally hydrated and oily, I need products that won't weigh it down. So many hair oils are too rich for my hair... This one I apply when my hair is damp and it makes it incredibly light and soft...I use it on the bottom half only though. The smell is divine ...a little in love:) it's not a synthetic smell though so you don't smell producty and salon ish... It smells exotic. I think too much of any product, specifically an oil based one, is overwhelming to skin or hair ....so I don't go crazy with this....but I can use a lot more than other oils in the past. It gives a stunning shine. Will last a long time....so in that way I don't feel it's expensive. Yes I know it contains silicones but I find pure straight oils to my hair weigh it down with too much moisture which is not needed....so maybe the mixed reviews have something to do with this ....the really damaged hair will always respond better to pure oils? It makes sense... There are so many factors that make hair and skin different, and due to this people's experiences with products will always be different. So if your hair sounds like mind I suggest you try it. Very happy and will buy again :) P.S my Mum has coloured red hair which is in great condition (she uses wen) but always needs an added boost on the ends...she tried this on damp hair before drying it lightly at the end....and absolutely loved the results ...it really sealed the ends, smoothing them beautifully.
Best. The ultimate for a natural eye. I am tan and thought this would be too light, but its perfect. Have never found a base colour so perfect on me, or a contour colour that looks so natural. Blends like no ones business. Did I say it's the best?:) same comment on price as others-but then I ask you all, isn't that why we're all so happy with this product ?;) in this case we are getting what we paid for.
I am thrilled with everything about this product, including the shape and size of the can,as its a little wider and shorter than standard hair sprays-I can just throw this in my handbag if I need a touch up and it doesn't jab my kidneys or stick out. My hair has never been coloured, not even a rinse.... And it is fine and naturally straight and smooth and there's lots of it,...so due to all these factors (and oily skin/scalp) I need a good product to add lift and body to my hair. I have tried many mousses and powders (those oil absorbing ones, so called root lifting powders which just make your hair look waxy and unclean) and I will even freely bag the hell out of David Babaii's own "miracle volume instant hair volumizing powder"- one of the worst hair products I have purchased !! So anyone reading this review knows this is honest and for real, as I love AND hate within the same brand;) This adds gorgeous Victoria's Secret type sexy volume and lift, does not go hard/sticky but is rather a textured feel without feeling producty, waxy, or unnatural. I spray this through the roots in panels and then around the top layers then just rough it up into my hair and boof it up ....and it makes my layered haircut sit the way only hardcore blow-drying,styling and rollers can. I am disgustingly in love:) smells beautiful, not like a "get high on me" hair spray but a classy subtle fragrance. Only comment is that it feels so nice and natural that I keep handling touching my hair .....so would need to touch up once or twice for continued effect. This is great though because it shows its not harsh on hair ....oh and by the way ?!?! Best dry shampoo hair saver after gym or next morning if rushing out the house....haven't found a dry shampoo that didn't make me look like a bohemian hippie.....until this fantastic spray.... Gush gush gush HG!:))))))) you get the picture. Price is great too compared to what I have paid for in some lower performing but higher end luxury hair brands.
Primer/ Corrector -Unlisted Brand - POD Puraceuticals SPF 15 Liquid Canvas
MissJacqui85 11/25/2012 4:36:00 AM
This has got to be THE most bad ass makeup primer ever. It has SPF protection, it's natural, it doesn't block or clog the pores with silicones, it's an anti ageing treatment and a moisturiser all in one perfect for oily skin!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never thought I would find such an animal....was expensive laying out for several of these products.... Started with one...went back for another next day ....and then next day for another two lol. This primer is Australian 70 dollars.... Which made me hesitate because its totally natural and I hadn't heard about these products from anyone ....maybe because they are keeping it a secret and are those smug ones who say 'oh, just great genetics and healthy living' (I know because I am one of those ...but this has turbo boosted my skin) Very little product is needed....it is a thicker almost chalky paste type consistency ....I think not great to apply on wrinkles or dry skin? Awesome makeup base..... Gives a subtle glow and does not make my face an oil slick. Smoothes skin for my mineral makeup..... And keeps skin clean all day....I am obsessed with the stunning ingredient content....natural marine plant collagen .....ingredients that stimulant natural collagen production, fight ageing and free radical damage, moisturise treat and prime in one. Have I said enough times I am in love? I want a friends bday to come up so I can gift them this and become their hero:)
Moisturizers -Unlisted Brand - POD Puraceuticals Liquid Facelift
MissJacqui85 11/25/2012 4:22:00 AM
This baby boosts your skins natural collagen production ..and has some awesome natural peptides in it. I was close to giving up on a moisturiser heavier than my SK II Facial Treatment Essence (oily water consistency) that I cod use night after night. Normally other moisturisers break me out or clog my pores after more than a few nights use ....this is perfect be because its creamier than a serum which seems to evaporate on contact.....but light enough to absorb and still leave the skin looking and feeling clean. This is a wonderful product which evens out skin tone, refines my pores, controls my oil, moisturises and smoothes skin. This is a great anti ageing treatment which can be worn during the day ...if you like the dewy effect with your makeup. It's like a creamy lotion consistency....lovely smell, like every product I have used so far from this natural brand (4,all reviewed ) and though on the expensive side (70 Australian dollars ) for a natural brand ...it's rich and a little goes a long way ...and the results make you excited to use the products. I have never been this excited about a brand of skincare before.
Treatments (Eye) -Unlisted Brand - POD Puraceuticals Liquid Eyelift
MissJacqui85 11/25/2012 4:10:00 AM
Best eye cream I have used. This brand is my new obsession...wow. This smoothes and primes the eye area...gorgeous consistency....has natural protein peptides....I don't have bags or wrinkles around eyes yet but sometimes in the morning my eyes are a little puffy or I get dehydration lines occasionally. Read my other reviews on this brand .... I doubt there would be many who would not be thrilled with these products, particularly those with oily skin who find many products either too rich and heavy or too unsubstantial...or just plain stripping to their skin. I am in love :)
Cleansers -Unlisted Brand - POD Puraceuticals Liquid Detox
MissJacqui85 11/25/2012 4:02:00 AM
Haven't reviewed in a whole but have started using some AMAZING products and my skin is absolutely glowing so wanted to share with people,as my friends aren't really into skincare. This cleanser has some kind if triple enzyme action and peptides that means it cleanses and exfoliates.....one word for the results: fantastic. I have oily skin and enlarged pores ....and although most of the time my skin is even and I get compliments ....this brand has taken it to a new level. I have never been enthused about a cleanser ....and most of the time resented paying anything to high for one because the results seemed pointless beyond removing makeup...and I am a products devotee..... But no joke, and it's a tad embarrassing to admit: I look forward to using this cleanser! :) (that sentence was difficult to type and take myself seriously) this smoothes and prepares your skin for products, it doesn't strip your skin of oils, the results are soft smooth skin that is not red or blotchy. It's a gel like consistency, clear if a little cloudy...and little foams, but not in sudsy way that screams out SLS. It's a refined type of foam if that makes sense. Takes off the majority of my makeup, leaving a little eyeliner residue but that doesn't matter....the other results are so good I am not relying on this as a makeup remover. I have also reviewed a primer, eye cream and moisturising serum from this brand- please check then out. This is an Australian brand that I kept walking past but never buying because hadn't ever heard any feedback on them and they are on the expensive side for natural products, especially when you buy a couple products. This cleanser was 60 australian dollars. This is one hell of a sophisticated brand -it's meant to to he pure natural ingredients but with cosmeticeutical results. Have been waiting for a natural brand to take it to a new level- bravo POD :)
I have this in colour 14 for Olive/Tanned skin. Wow this competes with the big boys. Gorgeous, finely milled texture and the most natural looking flush of health colour. This bronzer has cocoa bean and orange blossom extract for radiance and hydration....I received in a promo pack with purchase when I spent over $300 in Priceline pharmacy on skincare products, and would never have tried this product or even glanced its way ....but we are talking lifelong convert here. Officially obsessed. This is exactly how you want a bronzer to be.....my constant hunt ended without even choosing this product ,but having it thrown at me-so I can't even claim sheer genius and brilliant intuition/instincts-which I normally have with products. Love love love!!!! had to share:) compact is kind of 'nifty' too what with brush and swivel top mirror.
Great toner for oily skin ...not happy about the propylene glycol .... But this does perform well, leaves the skin very clean.... But like previous reviewer commented, could not use more than once a day....would make skin too tight.
THE. BEST. Only if you are one of those girls who devotes a little extra time to lashes... I always feel when I am a little slower, more perfectionist, and my lashes are beautiful, the makeup look is nailed... for me mascara application can make or break. I sometimes wear just the black mascara on it's own for more laid back days... but wow can you get crazy lashes (extension and volume) with only one coat of fibres. Just make sure you apply evenly (not a rush job) and you will swear allegiance to this mascara for the end of all time:) Just be careful to not apply white fibres too close to base of lash line..... when you apply the black mascara you have a fantastic (practically unavoidable) opportunity to transfer some of these tiny microscopic (read: impossible to find afterwards) fibres into your eyeball. Your. Eye. Will. Water. Badly. It. Will. Itch. It. Will. Also. Turn. Red. Very Red. So don't be greedy about volume at the base and you will have no issues. Have had no problems with clumping.... I also started to lose lashes after using maybelline mascara for a few months... after using this a few months, my lashes are thicker than pre-maybelline AKA eye lash killer. Maybe some great ingredient added that happens to enhance lash growth?
Ok so this is a great product for those looking for the natural look. I really would love if NBNature would make it into a pressed powder, as the consistency would make it far easier and less time consuming to apply. Especially considering I use my bronzer as a quick, multi purpose pick me up. I am an avid mineral makeup fan- but one of my qualms with loose mineral powders is when they are highly pigmented colours (ie. blush, bronzer, eye shadows) it can be tricky to control the amount of colour you want to apply, and if it hasn't covered the brush evenly, you have to buff and re-correct etc. That's where the comment the previous reviewer made comes into play- about taking the time to apply correctly etc. But just dropping the word out to the ladies who have seen the application video's where this bronzer seems to apply seamlessly, with an airbrushed look and perfect colour distribution. Not a product you can throw in your back and use for quick touch up's to inject some life back into your complexion when needed. Like I said above- if they could make it in pressed powder form- pure awesomeness:)))
This is a brilliant product, nourishes my oily skin, and like the previous reviewer mentioned -it works great alone under makeup, but use it sparingly. It's rich and packs a punch. My boyfriend is complaining now that I've run out-he has oily, very tan olive skin and sheds a lot -this was,as he says 'the best ' :) For oily skin you don't need to add a moisturiser-this does it all on it's own. Skin feels so silky afterwards:) It's hard not to overuse, consistency and scent are divine!
