Foundations -Maybelline - Dream Matte Mousse
rated 5 of 5

I bought this product recently and I really love it. I used to be a high-end snob when it came to foundations but this is a drugstore foundation worth having. I love the light, smooth texture and the coverage. I also love the fact that it came in my shade! I am MAC NW45 and the shade Cocoa is perfect for me. It definitely does make you very matte, to the point where if your skin is not well-moisturized you can look "dusty." But hey, even oily skin needs a good moisturizer! I've found that I don't need to blot the oil nearly as often as I did even with my MAC foundaitons. This product is a keeper.

Blush -MAC - breezy
rated 4 of 5

I was afraid of this color at first because it reminded me of MAC Fever blush, which is overpowering even on my NW45 skin. But when I put this on, it's so sheer and beautiful, plummy with a hint of red pearl, I had to buy it. It is a very flattering, soft "red" blush, one of MAC's best in awhile.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Moth Brown

I agree with the person who said that this was THE must have from Madame B. I really love this shadow. It is really unlike any other color I can think of in the MAC eyeshadow family. It is that purple/gray/brown color you never used in your crayola box, but it looks beautiful with almost every other color, or alone. I wear it with greens and purples, with Icon Eyes eye kohl, and I also pair it with lighter, frostier colors like Retrospeck. Well worth getting a backup since it's LE.

Blush -MAC - Mountain High

This is a beautiful sheertone blush that's great for everyday. Someone compared it to Plum Foolery but I think the more accurate description would be a "softer," lighter Raizin. It works extremely well with my NW45 skin tone and I like having an alternative to Raizin. Oh, and the pink packaging is too cute!

Eyeliner -MAC - Eyeliner Kohl in Icon Eyes
rated 5 of 5
MightyPen 1/29/2005 9:44:00 PM

This eye kohl is from the Diana Icon collection and it pairs beautifully with both quads but especially quad one. It is a blackened purple that pairs well with any purple look, or even with contrasting colors that pair well with it. I've worn it as the liner with Dancemix (coral-ish color) from Quad 2 and it was beautiful. It is part of the permanent collection so you don't have to rush out and get it but if you want a nice change from black eyeliner, this is it.

Lipstick -MAC - Mahogany
rated 5 of 5

This color is gorgeous. I agree with all the other raves. It's a deep bronze copper and pairs beautifully with Sunny Boy l/g. MAC outdid themselves with the Diana Icon collection. I love everything I've bought and I think the colors are especially complimentary to women of color.

I must continue with the raves. This is a really beautiful color! Not quite like any other of its kind in its color family. It's close to New Flame and Ornamental but with a little more gold and a little more red. I am a DDD (NW45) and this is a really gorgeous color on me. I pair it almost daily now with Mahogany lipstick -- also from the Diana collection. I liked this so much I made sure I got a backup.

Palettes -MAC - Diana Eyes 2
rated 5 of 5
MightyPen 1/29/2005 9:36:00 PM

I love this palette! At first glance the colors don't seem extraordinary, but just play with it. There are no other colors like Dancemix (the coral color) or Flipside (the shimmery beige-ish color). I wear some combination almost everyday now. It's a beautiful, functional quad. I am going to get a backup of it before they run out!

I absolutely love this palette! Although Vex is not my favorite color, the others are just gorgeous. Very unique and complimentary to every skin tone. Even better if you're a person who likes purples!

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara
rated 4 of 5
MightyPen 11/28/2004 8:38:00 PM

I finally broke down and bought this and I really like it. It definitely has made my fine, sparse lashes full and lovely-looking. On me it doesn't smudge or flake. I'm convinced the key is the huge brush that comes with it. I had a lot more luck with this than with Kevyn Aucoin's mascara. That said, I haven't figured out yet whether the success of this mascara is the brush or the formula. My hunch is the brush so when this is done I'm going to keep the brush and use it in other mascaras. If I could get the same success without spending so much money I'll be really grateful.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Shadebender - Iridescently
rated 1 of 5
MightyPen 11/28/2004 8:34:00 PM

I bought both shadebenders and while I have "rediscovered" Sorcery and use it quite often, I still don't like Iridescently. In fact I'm probably going to put it up for swap. It turns everything into a weird, cheap-looking purple Wet n Wild color I wore when I was 14. This was one of MAC's mistakes. Even if it was not LE and discontinued, I wouldn't have bought it again.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Shadebender - Sorcery
rated 3 of 5
MightyPen 11/28/2004 8:32:00 PM

I bought both of these shadebenders when they first came out and I quickly tossed them aside. I thought they were a waste of money and a cruel marketing trick. I have since "rediscovered" Sorcery and it is quite lovely. It looks great paired with my brown/bronzey/goldish/reddish-gold lipsticks and glosses. I get lots of compliments when I pair it with anything. That said, even though it is LE and discontinued, I wouldn't have bought it again.

Eye Shadow -NARS - Misfit Duo
rated 5 of 5
MightyPen 11/28/2004 10:03:00 AM

I had a makeover at NARS and the MA used this duo and it was so gorgeous that I had to buy it! This kelly green/champagne duo is hot. I wear the lighter color as a wash and I apply the green color thick at the lashline and blend up toward the crease. Then I use NARS California (bronzey color) in the crease. It's really beautiful. NARS shadows are well-pigmented and easy to blend and these colors are just gorgeous. Flattering to my DDD complexion. NARS is a really great line for women of color.

Eyeliner -NARS - Glitter Pencil in Area
rated 5 of 5
MightyPen 11/28/2004 10:00:00 AM

Beautiful color. I usually don't like glitter on my eyes but this black eyeliner with gold glitter is really beautiful. It's packaged well and the glitter doesn't get everywhere. It adds just the right accent. I love that it's appropriate for day or evening. What I don't like is that you have to have one of those huge sharpeners to sharpen it.

Lip Gloss -NARS - Revolt
rated 3 of 5
MightyPen 11/28/2004 9:57:00 AM

This is the only NARS product I have that I'm not crazy about. I find the packaging of NARS tube glosses awkward and it's difficult actually getting product out of the tube. This color, a sort of dark, sheer plum, is too similar to others I already own and is not enough of a standout to put it ahead of the others. I tend to never wear this alone. I only wear it on top of red or pinks. Not awful but not my fave either. Would not repurchase.
