Lip Gloss -MAC - Pro Longwear Lipglass
rated 4 of 5
MarylWski 2/11/2012 12:26:00 PM

Yes, this Lipglass does last longer than MAC's other glosses. I have Ready or Not, which is a light peachy nude. It has more pigment and is more opaque, which I like. The cost is on the high side, but the product delivers, so it's worth it. I hope that MAC adds more shades to its collection.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - Infallible Eyeshadow in Continuous Cocoa #891
rated 3 of 5
MarylWski 2/11/2012 12:14:00 PM

I found this eyeshadow kind of difficult to apply. It's very dark, almost black, although I like dark smokey eyeshadow. This one went on not as smoothly as I had hoped. I used sponge tipped applicators because it was harder to apply with a shadow brush. It definitely lasts all day, so I'll be on the lookout for other shades, maybe a softer color.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous False Fiber Lashes~Waterproof
rated 4 of 5
MarylWski 2/11/2012 12:05:00 PM

I am "blessed" (cursed!) with stubby/thin/light lashes that I have to curl, otherwise they flop. Pleasantly surprised with Voluminous False Lashes Waterproof. The formula helps to build up my lashes in two coats. Three is even better. I didn't have problems with beading or clumping or strange bending lashes; the formula is on the dry side. It doesn't work well on my lower lashes, so I use the regular tried and true Voluminous Waterproof on those. I also like the mascara tube, which twists/clicks shut. Hopefully, the formula will keep fresher longer. It may be a bit more difficult to remove, but I use the Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover and it works well every time.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - Wear Infinite Quad - Earthscape
rated 4 of 5
MarylWski 7/21/2011 1:33:00 PM

I purchased this eye shadow quad on a discount cosmetics website and really got a value. The colors are really good for daywear and I found all four shades are usable, although the ivory color was flat. The darkest brown color is great on the lid and underneath the eye for a soft smoky effect. There's no harsh glitter in these shadows. Reading some of the reviews, I'm surprised to see that some individuals had difficulty with the shadows showing or staying on. I use a good MAC eyeshadow brush for the crease and under the brow and use a small sponge tip applicator for the darkest shadow rimming the eyes. I didn't need any primer. I have some other favorite L'Oreal shadows with varying amounts of shimmer that I use at other times; my favorite, #340 Celebrity Status Quartz, has been discontinued. So frustrating! If anyone has any ideas on where to find this shade, please advise!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Extra Volume Collagen Mascara (waterproof)
rated 3 of 5
MarylWski 9/25/2010 11:43:00 AM

I too am a long time Voluminous mascara user and use waterproof formulas because I have short, sparse lashes that need to be curled prior to mascara application. Sadly, if I use regular formulas, my lashes un-curl, droop downward, and disappear. I bought this mascara because I wanted to try the benefit of collagen, but I was disappointed with the thick, clumpy formula. Like some other reviewers, this mascara left undesirable kinks and blobs on the ends of my lashes. Since I hate to waste a product, I now use L'Oreal Telescopic mascara as a first coat and Extra Volume Collagen Mascara as a second coat. The Telescopic mascara does a good job at separating the lashes and coating the hard-to-find ones, but doesn't give enough "oopmh" for thickening or lengthening. The Extra Volume Collagen mascara adds the necessary thickness and some length when applied after the Telescopic. I have to say that Voluminous is still my tried-and-true choice. Until L'Oreal creates another product, which I probably will experiment with!

Lip Gloss -MAC - Plushglass in Big Baby
rated 2 of 5
MarylWski 6/21/2010 1:22:00 PM

Unfortunately, this shade didn't work for me. It just looks like I applied a clear gloss on my lips, no color is evident. Didn't really get any plumping benefit on my thin lips. I do like MAC Lustreglass and Lipglass in other shades, though. Glad it works for others but it left me underwhelmed.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous in Carbon Black
rated 4 of 5
MarylWski 4/16/2010 1:36:00 PM

This mascara worked well on my stubby thin lashes. It grabbed the lashes and lengthened them with one/two coats. I have to use waterproof because my lashes have no upward curl. So I use the eyelash curler, then apply the mascara. It stays on well and I found it removes easily with the right product. For me, Neutrogena oilfree eye makeup remover is excellent and does just as good a removal job as Lancome Bifacil. The only minus is that I have to replace the mascara more often, but the low price makes up for that. It seems to be a very popular mascara and the waterproof version must sell quickly because it's hard to find in the usual selection of drugstores around here.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lustreglass - Ensign
rated 5 of 5
MarylWski 10/1/2009 3:54:00 PM

This is one of the best all-purpose Lustreglass shades for me. I like the fact that it is less sheer and more pigmented than most lipglosses. The coloration is great so that you can wear it on its own instead of layering it over lipstick. Lustreglass has a great formulation and I've actually used Ensign and Hey Sailor together with much success. It's too bad that the Naughty Nauticals appear to be discontinued. But you can still get them on EBay.

Treatments -L'Oreal - Skin Genesis Multi- Layer Cell Strengthening Serum Concentrate
rated 5 of 5
MarylWski 6/29/2009 9:55:00 PM

If you have "older skin" like I do, try the Skin Genesis threesome: the Eye Serum, Skin Serum and Daily Moisturizer. I pat on the eye serum, apply the skin serum (which to me feels nice and thin, and spreads easily). Then I wait just a minute and apply the moisturizer. It does have a slight, pleasant tightening effect, though not overbearing. I find it's an excellent base for a very light application of makeup, perfect for summer. The cost is reasonable. I've used department store brands for years, but phased out to experiment with other brands and found the Skin Genesis line very effective. As others have mentioned, the pump applicator bottles work very well and give you a measured amount of product. Click the top to the left or right to open or lock. Great design.

Lotions/ Creams -Perlier - Milk and fruit body cream
rated 5 of 5
MarylWski 6/29/2009 9:39:00 PM

Find these Perlier Milk and Fruit products if you can. They were deep-discounted at TJ Maxx, and after my initial application, I ran back for more. I have used the Vanilla, Chocolate, Coffee (Latte), and Raspberry scents. The body lotions have the best textures, light yet creamy, with intoxicating scents. My suntanned skin just drank it up. It leaves a slight silken gleam on the skin. There's nothing greasy about the products; they have the feel of rich whipped cream. I also use the body wash in the same scents. These products are such good quality I was surprised to get such a bargain. The packaging is kind of plain and utilitarian. White plastic tubs. Some of the body milks and body washes are in cute little "milk bottles." Read carefully because most of the labelling is in Italian and you could get stuck with the body wash instead of the body lotion, or vice versa. I understand that there are lip balms by Perlier, too. If anyone has used them, please share your info. Thanks!

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - Wear Infinité Eyeshadow Quad
rated 5 of 5
MarylWski 12/29/2007 2:57:00 PM

I bought 340 Celebrity Status Quartz, which appeared around the holidays (CVS). I gave it a high rating because, for the first time ever, I like and use all four colors! Normally I only like one or two shades in an eyeshadow quad and have collected many. In this quad, however, the colors are good for day and night (soft sandy brown for day, a smokier taupe for night, with pale creamy and peachy shades for highlighting under the brow. For me, the shadows have the right amount of pigment and sheen to give a pretty effect to the eyes. People who only like matte shadows should stay away, though. The clear lucite packaging seems a bit upgraded from the usual plastic containers, but it doesn't include applicators and doesn't have a place to store applicators (what were they thinking?)

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Creme de la Chrome in Gilt Complex
rated 4 of 5
MarylWski 12/29/2007 2:32:00 PM

Although I found the shade Gilt Complex too deathly light to wear alone and a bit too dry, I like the heavily pigmented metallic look and finish off with a dab of shiny gloss for a bit more color. I also purchased #365 Spice it Up at the same time and find the shade more becoming. I'd love to purchase more shades of Creme de la Chrome; unfortunately, they are all gone (at CVS) so it appears that the product is popular! I'd love to find out the other shade selections and hope that Revlon keeps adding new shades.

Moisturizers -Olay - Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream
rated 4 of 5
MarylWski 12/29/2007 2:20:00 PM

I've mainly used Lancome products (Renergie and Renergie Microlift) but wanted to try something that was more economical. This cream smooths on more silkily than Microlift and really goes further; the texture is nicer and less thick. I use it on my neck and under the eyes, too. It seems to be a good multi-purpose cream. I try to apply it upwards as well, but don't have time for the face massage techniques recommended in the package. I use a small applicator instead of dipping my fingers into the jar to keep the product clean and fresh. The scent is not as nice as the Lancome skin creams, but it fades away. The price is at least 50% less than the Lancome products and seems to be a sensible alternative to Lancome. I'm definitely going to buy it again.
