Fragrances -Marc Jacobs - Eau De Parfum

This fragrance really surprised me. When I wear it, it's quite soft and discrete however it's staying power is really amazing. It's a lovely white floral/gardenia scent that reminds me of a low-calorie version of Chanel Gardenia. Not overpowering like Fracas, but still feminine and seductive.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Aqaba by Miriam Mirani

Aqaba is what I call a perfume with personality, but I didn't find it overly strong. In fact, it's a lovely soft, spicy floral-oriental. At first sniff, I get a cinnamon/clove/cedar strong burst than softens very quickly into a rose/softer spice mix. Feminine, exotic, and not overly-sweet, I find it well-balanced and well worth checking.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - IUNX Fragrance Waters (All)

After visiting the shop last Saturday, I must say I was quite impressed by their vast choice in candles and home fragrances. Some seemed really appealing to me (like the Frangipani candle) but I was unwilling to risk trying given the price tag. As to the fragrances, I was really unimpressed. I have no patience with scents that have no staying power and these are all extremely weak. I did enjoy No. 2 (pleasantly incensy, like a much weaker CdG Avignon), and No. 8 (orange blossom scent, a very weak and unsexy version of SL's Fleurs d'Oranger). The boutique is worth visiting because of the decoration and the SAs are nice and helpful. The fragrances are definitely not for me, perhaps for younger women who like very light scents (like l'Artisan). However, the home fragrances and candles seemed quite remarkable (lots of choice, particularly for the candles) and well worth checking.

Fragrances -Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Perfumes - George Sand
rated 4 of 5
MaryanParis 11/29/2004 11:35:00 AM

George Sand is not for the faint hearted ! A strong ambery floral-oriental with lots of personality, I found it a bit too masculine for my personal taste at first sniff, but loved the drydown on my skin, after half an hour or so (and was complimented on it by a colleague upon my return to the office). Apart from the amber, musk, patchouli and rose, I could detect a delicious spicy smell (cloves and a bit of cinnamon). This scent reminded me of Fragonard's Murmure, Coco and Opium. It'd suit a flamboyant, sultry brunette wearing furs and sexy long leather boots ;)

Gels/Soaps -Roger & Gallet - Green Tea Perfumed Soaps
rated 5 of 5

Roger & Gallet soaps are all beautiful and lovely smelling. I have sensitive skin and these are about the only scented soaps that won't bother me. In the garderner range, my favorite is fresh fig, it smells wonderful and quite natural. In their regular range, I love magnolia best of all, but green tea, tea rose and sandalwood are also lovely smelling.

Fragrances -Caron - Lady Caron
rated 4 of 5
MaryanParis 5/19/2003 9:03:00 AM

Very pleasant fragrance but lacks the complexity usually found in other Caron fragrances. The dry-down somehow evokes the smell of chewing-gum on my skin, I can't say why ! Whatever its shortcomings, it's still miles ahead from the middle-of-the-road boring clean florals or foody fragrances that are everywhere these days.

Fragrances -Frederic Malle - Lys Mediterranee
rated 4 of 5
MaryanParis 4/25/2003 5:12:00 AM

This one is a must-try for lilly lovers out there, it smells beautiful and natural, just like the flower itself. It may seem a bit bland to some, a bit aqueous too, but it's my favorite Editions de Parfum.

Fragrances -Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Perfumes - Or des Indes
rated 5 of 5
MaryanParis 4/24/2003 5:53:00 AM

Excellent oriental fragrance, it's one my MPG favorites. Unlike some other reviewers, I don't think it's similar to Shalimar (I don't much like Shalimar, though I love most Guerlains, the drydown is acrid on me). Or des Indes is a very refined and sophisticated oriental that is worth trying if you enjoy this type of scent.

Fragrances -Robert Piguet Fragrances - Fracas
rated 4 of 5
MaryanParis 4/24/2003 5:48:00 AM

If you like extremely lush and opulent tuberose scents, you'll love Fracas. I prefer slightly lighter tuberose fragrances myself, with more 'modern' notes such as Number One by Parfums de Nicolaï (which smells to me like a better, more wearable version of Fracas). Fracas almost smelled like melted butter to me, it made me queazy ! Interesting and worth trying, IMO.

I was expecting a chypré, however this was 100% musky, in the bottle and on my skin. I had to wash it off because was really too much. If you like very musky fragrances, definitely try it, but it's not for everyone.

Fragrances -Comme des Garcons - Incense Series Avignon
rated 5 of 5
MaryanParis 4/19/2003 6:54:00 AM

I've been looking for a fragrance that smells exactly like a church and I've found it in Avignon. It is wonderfully incensy, the very best CdG IMO. Definitely worth trying !

It seemed liked an interesting floral when I sprayed it on, unfortunately the drydown was disappointigly powdery on me.

From the description, I expected to like this fragrance, however, it was exceedingly sour and not flowery at all when I tried it. Very disappointing.

Fragrances -Guerlain - Jardins De Bagatelle
rated 5 of 5
MaryanParis 4/8/2003 11:55:00 AM

JdB is one of my favorite Guerlains. I know it's supposed to be a tuberose/white floral fragrance, but to me, it smells like a lush rose garden, when the roses are all blooming. It's a beautiful, classic perfume that improves my mood tremendously when I put it on. I keep sniffing my wrists all day long too. Simply gorgeous.
