Styling Products -DevaCurl - Set It Free
Marlena_M 12/14/2007 12:44:00 PM
For reference my hair is naturally curly (3a/b), fine, medium density, colored and chemically treated. This product is just awful on my hair. Leaves it feeling horribly coated and dried out. I will not repurchase and I would not recommend.

For reference my hair is naturally curly (3a/b), fine, medium density, colored and chemically treated. This product leaves my hair feeling horrible... dry, coated and worst of all very stiff. I will not repurchase and I would not recommend.

Conditioner -DevaCurl - B'Leave-In
Marlena_M 12/14/2007 12:22:00 PM
For reference my hair is naturally curly (3a/b), fine, medium density, colored and chemically treated. This product is awful... just awful. I don't know why they call this a LEAVE-IN because it comes out of the tube as a gel... and leaves my hair feeling coated and yucky. It's called a "Moisture Supplement" but that's a joke because it dries out my hair terribly. I won't repurchase and wouldn't recommend it to others.

Styling Products -Wella - Liquid Hair Brilliant Spray Gel
Marlena_M 12/2/2007 4:03:00 PM
If you have curly hair and want it to be soft, touchable, defined and have nice hold, then ~~RUN~~ to get this! A completely unique product that gives soft moveable, touchable hold. Absolutely zero crunch... and I have used a LOT sometimes and still it doesn't get hard or crunchy. I don't need a frizz serum underneath this at all since it controls the frizz beautifully. The only thing I don't care for is the scent... truly awful to me... but I can't smell it on my hair so I'm happy. I hear it's an Allure Beauty Winner but I never heard of it until recently. I'll be stocking up in case they ever discontinue it. Completely unique hair product for curly girls... don't let the "spray GEL" title fool you, this stuff is AMAZING. ~~RUN~~ to get it!

Shampoo -TiGi - S-Factor Color Savy Sulfate Free Shampoo
Marlena_M 11/21/2007 2:43:00 PM
This is a really nice shampoo! It lathers beautifully and smells so good! It cleans my hair w/o leaving it feeling stripped or coated. It doesn't tangle and I just love that about it. It lathers beautifully and is sulfate free so it's gentle on colored hair. Paired with the TiGi S-Factor Smoothing Conditioner, TiGi S-Factor Leave In and TiGi S-Factor Smoothing Lusterizer and my hair looks great! I would definitely repurchase!

Conditioner -Alterna - White Truffle Conditioner
Marlena_M 11/16/2007 5:25:00 PM
This is a nice conditioner... just 'nice'. It has moderate slip and doesn't smell offensive (just light and clean I suppose). But that's about where the positives end for me. In the shower, the matching shampoo left me with significant tangling... and this conditioner did an OK job at removing them - but again, just okay. It doesn't have a lot of slip to be a GOOD detangler even though it contains Dimethicone. Alterna claims this conditioner contains full spectrum UV protection which, if true, is good to know!! It's very expensive... $36 for a 10oz bottle. It's nice but for the price I expect better. I certainly didn't 'observe extraordinary results after just one use' like Alterna claimed I would ;-) I'm glad I received a decant in swap - I defintely wouldn't buy this nor would I really recommend it to others.

Shampoo -Alterna - White Truffle Shampoo

This is a nice shampoo... just 'nice'. It lathers decently and doesn't smell offensive (just light and clean I suppose). But that's about where the positives end for me. In the shower, this shampoo left me with significant tangling... and my hair is just shoulder length. Although Alterna claims "ideal for daily use and safe for chemically treated hair" that's a little ridiculous considering it contains Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate which if used continously would definitely impact haircolor in a negative way :( Alterna also claims this shampoo contains full spectrum UV protection which, if true, is good to know!! Lastly, it's very expensive... $30 for a 10oz bottle. It's nice but for the price I expect better. I certainly didn't 'observe extraordinary results after just one use' like Alterna claimed I would ;-) I'm glad I received a decant in swap - I defintely wouldn't buy this nor would I really recommend it to others.

Styling Products -Unlisted Brand - ICON Airshine
Marlena_M 11/3/2007 11:04:00 AM
For reference my hair is fine, medium density, naturally curly (3a/b), colored and chemically treated. ICON Airshine comes in a 5oz can that looks (and is used like) hairspray. It gives a **dry** blast of shine to styled hair. My favorite thing about this product is that it's **dry** and not oily and not grasy. I've tried many shine products (e.g. Bumble & bumble "Shine") that were nothing but oil sprayed out of a can. Sorry but I don't want OIL on my fine hair... I want SHINE and unfortunately most manufacturers of shine products seem to think shine = oil. It doesn't and at last I've found a product that gives DRY shine. I love this and recommend it to everyone. About $20 for a 5oz can. I definitely plan to repurchase - I'll probably buy a few and stock up, it's THAT good!

Hair Styling Tools -GHD - IV Styler (all sizes)
Marlena_M 11/3/2007 10:51:00 AM
{cue trumpets and choir of angels}... Styling heaven has arrived and product perfection has been achieved ... in the form of the GHD Styler 1" Flat Iron (2007 MK4). For reference my hair is fine, medium density, naturally curly (3a/b), colored and chemically treated. I've owned 5 previous flat irons... 1.25" Solia, 1" T3, 1" FHI Platform, 1" HAI Convertable and 1" Chi Turbo. The 1" Chi Turbo was my holy grail for a year until I tried the GHD Styler. The GHD Styler is the perfect iron in every way. It straightens without flattening your hair, it gives volume, it curls, it makes waves, it leaves your hair super silky smooth and gives your hair and INCREDIBLE amount of SHINE. The GHD styler not only gets my hair straight in one pass, it KEEPS my hair straight - my style *continues* to look phenomenal throughout the day... even in humid/damp weather! The barrel is rounded and the plates are floating - this enables you to straighten w/o that line-of-demarcation and make beautiful curls that look, well, curled!! The iron heats up in less than 20 seconds... and stays hot throughout. The ceramic plates ensure even heating so there are no "hot spots" that can yield uneven results. The iron shuts itself off after 30 minutes of non-use. It's dual voltage so you can use it in the US and take it abroad without fear of frying your iron. It comes with a great styling tutorial DVD so you can see and learn how to make the most of your GHD Styler. I use this iron with the GHD Thermal Protector spray which makes the results even that much more fabulous. I would recommend this iron to anyone who can afford the $240 pricetag and is willing to spend that kind of money on a flat iron. It's the best one I've ever used... in fact, after using it just one time I sent my beloved, HG-for-a-year, CHI Turbo flatiron off to someone who now loves it as much as I ever did :) If anything were to happen to my GHD Styler flat iron, I would cough up another $240 to repurchase it... it's THAT good!

Styling Products -T3 - Boost Heat Seeking Liquid Iron Booster
Marlena_M 11/2/2007 3:08:00 PM
Underwhelming and not worth the $38 pricetag. For reference, my hair is fine, medium density, naturally curly (3a/b), colored and chemically treated. The press on this product has been terrific so I couldn't wait to try it. I finally found it at Sephora - online only, placed my order and waited (im)patiently for it to arrive. I used it on freshly blow dried hair. The consistency is like a cloudy, thick gel/paste that comes out of a tube and you emulsify it between your palms then apply it to your hair. It is very easy to over do it and use too much - this is why I much prefer a spray on heat protector (easier for me to control). Maybe if someone has thick hair it would be okay but my hair is very fine and I didn't like the way it left my hair feeling rather coated. Truth be told, I really do not like this product at all especially not for $38 + tax + shipping. Save your money. IME the Redken Velvet Gelatine works a LOT better, smells a lot better and is about 1/2 the price.

I sprayed it on just washed, towel dried hair, liberally but not drenching it, and proceeded to style as usual (blow dryer and round brush). Truth be told, this really did ZIPPO for my hair. I won't say it's a *bad* product but for $38 + tax + shipping, I certainly expect better volume than I get when I use nothing at all. Save your money. IME the Kerastase Volumactive Mousse works a LOT better and it's about the same price.

Styling Products -GHD - Thermal Protector For Normal-To-Fine Hair
Marlena_M 11/2/2007 2:54:00 PM
For reference, my hair is fine, medium density, naturally curly (3a/b), colored and chemically treated. This is a WONDERFUL heat protector that also adds tons of shine. I have a GHD Styler 1" flat iron which is incredible... this thermal protector spray is a terrific complement to it. It's not heavy, doesn't leave my hair crunchy and gives a lot of shine. I would definitely recommend AND repurchase :)

Styling Products -TiGi - S Factor Seriously Straight
Marlena_M 10/29/2007 6:14:00 PM
Really disliked this product and am glad I swapped for it instead of buying it. Seems like it's nothing but oily yuck... leaves my hair feeling awful and looking worse than when I use nothing (which I never do when I'm using a flat iron!). The only good thing I found was the scent. Also, it's pretty darn expensive. I would not repurchase and would not recommend.

Hair Color -Unlisted Brand - Satin Ultra Vivid Fashion Colors Aloe Vera base
Marlena_M 10/29/2007 10:46:00 AM
For reference I'm naturally a medium brown, probably in the 5N range. Clairol Natural Instincts Brass Free Brunettes in medium brown is very close to my natural color. I chose 4MV Mahogany Violet in Satin along with the 10 developer (deposit only, no lifting). Super easy to mix and apply... absolutely did not stain my skin at all :) I applied to damp (not wet) hair and left it on for 30 minutes. Rinsed it out, shampooed, conditioned and then proceeded to style as usual. My hair does NOT smell like "chemicals" at all. DH is real keen on that and even putting his nose right in my hair he said it didn't smell at all like I had just colored. That's a big plus in my book! The color is very true to the swatch in the store. It didn't run dark which is something I was really concerned about with a level 4 color - I didn't want it ending up black! The grey coverage was terrific and my greys pulled the brighest among the highlight colors to give a truly multi-dimensional result just like the swatch showed. My hair is extremely shiny and very soft (though it's always soft like this when I use Terax Collagene shampoo & TiGi Moisture Maniac conditioner)... Satin haircolor did not leave my hair dry whatsoever. I'd recommend this line to anyone who likes to DIY hair color :) The color selection is phenomenal and one of my reasons for choosing Satin was how great the colors looked... nothing flat... and the fact that you choose the color and choose what level developer you want (10, 20, 30 or even 40). I see a lot of gorgeous colors in PERMANENT lines but I only want to do Demi Perm though I don't want it looking flat. UPDATE: It's now been 3 weeks since I colored and the color still looks fantastic. I shampoo every day and no haircolor has ever held up the way this one does!!! I'd defintely use this again!!
