Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - S.W. Basics- Cream
rated 5 of 5
Manue 5/21/2013 3:16:00 PM

This is a great product for my dry, sensitive skin. It contains only 3 ingredients, so there is minimal risk of aggravating the skin. It's pretty good value, at $34 for 3.75 oz. You could probably try to DIY this cream, but I doubt it would be as lovely and creamy. I like the unscented smell of shea butter. The packaging is cute, but I take a mark off because the label says: "when it comes to dry skin, this bad boy don't play". Call me old-fashioned, but I value the use of proper English. INGREDIENTS: Fair Trade wildcrafted unrefined shea butter, organic extra-virgin coconut oil, organic extra-virgin olive oil. This company was formerly known as Sprout Skincare.

Sunscreen -Erbaviva - Sunscreen SPF 30
rated 5 of 5

The world of 'clean', 'non-toxic' sunscreen is fraught with greasy, whitening products. This is as good as it gets in my opinion. It's not perfect (I don't use this product everyday), BUT it is better than the alternatives. It leaves a little white cast, it's neither greasy nor drying, it's relatively affordable ($20 for 2.5 fl oz), it doesn't break me out, and importantly, it works. I feel confident using this at the beach. For everyday wear, I tend to use a hat because my skin just reacts badly to sunscreen everyday. Blush -ILIA - Multi-stick- I put a spell on you
rated 5 of 5
Manue 5/21/2013 2:56:00 PM

I love ILIA. There's something about the packaging, the colours, the ingredients that really appeals to me. This is a multi-stick that can be used as a blush or lip colour. I prefer it as a blush because it can look a little chalky on the lips, more of a 60s vibe. It's the perfect coral blush colour though. I'm really happy with it. It doesn't aggravate my skin in any way.

Concealers -Rimmel - Match Perfection Concealer
rated 4 of 5
Manue 5/21/2013 2:49:00 PM

Now, I care a lot about what is in my makeup, so I read ingredients and discriminate quickly on the basis of ingredients that are not clearly safe. However, the 'clean' beauty world fails me when it comes to concealer. After having spent a few hundred dollars in vain, I have given up. I am back to the 'dirtier' world of silicone products until a better clean product is developed. This highlighting concealer performs WAY better than green alternatives like Jane Iredale's. The ingredients are not horrific (no fragrance or parabens). And it costs a fraction of the price... I get it for $6 at my local drugstore. It does a really good job at highlighting/concealing my under eye darkness and the excess redness around my nose. If you have a huge pimple, this will only soften it, because it's meant for highlighting rather than heavy-duty concealing. And the colour is perfect for my pale yellow-toned skin too; I have it in classic beige. The applicator is a little unhygienic, but for the price, I can replace it often. Ingredients: AQUA/WATER/EAU, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, C12-15 ALKYL BENZOATE, TALC, GLYCERIN, DIMETHICONE, POLYMETHYL METHACRYLATE, PEG-10 DIMETHICONE, DIMETHICONE PEG-10/15 CROSSPOLYMER, ACRYLATES/DIMETHICONE COPOLYMER, DIMETHICONOL, MAGNESIUM SULFATE, BORON NITRIDE, NYLON-12, PEG-10, PHENOXYETHANOL, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, TRIETHOXYCAPRYLYLSILANE, ALUMINUM DIMYRISTATE, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, DISODIUM STEAROYL GLUTAMATE, VITIS VINIFERA (GRAPE) JUICE, PUNICA GRANATUM FRUIT JUICE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, HEXYLENE GLYCOL, EUTERPE OLERACEA JUICE POWDER, ASCORBYL GLUCOSIDE, DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL, TOCOPHEROL, SAPPHIRE POWDER, PALMARIA PALMATA EXTRACT, 2-ETHYL HEXYL ACRYLATE. Skincare - Face -Shiseido - Facial Cotton
rated 5 of 5
Manue 5/21/2013 2:41:00 PM

These are my favourite cotton pads to remove makeup and wash my face. They are a little pricier than other brands at $9 a pack, but they are so much softer. It doesn't aggravate my sensitive, redness-prone skin. The pack lasts a long time too.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - EXTRA VIRGIN Coconut Oil (All brands)
rated 5 of 5
Manue 5/21/2013 2:38:00 PM

I am loving the oil-cleansing method with organic, cold pressed coconut oil. I buy the Maison d'Orphée Brand in Canada. I was a bit worried this would clog pores, because coconut oil is known to be comedogenic, but for some reason this works on my skin. My skin is less dry. I have fewer breakouts. I basically massage the oil on my face at night and use a wet facial cotton pad to gently remove any makeup and grime. It's been a couple of months, and I don't see myself going back to expensive cleansers any time soon.

People with oily hair, stay away from this product. My hair looked like a greasy mess. I had to wash it again right away.

Shampoo -Acure Organics - Shampoo - Lemongrass + Argan Stem Cell
rated 1 of 5
Manue 3/3/2013 6:49:00 PM

This shampoo is no good for fine, oily hair. It is far too heavy. It lathers nicely and the smell is nice, but I feel like I should wash my hair again before the end of the day, even without using the conditioner. It is affordable, so if you have dry hair, you may love this. Ingredients: Organic Euterpe oleracea (Acai) Berry, Organic Rubus fruticosus (Blackberry), Organic Rosa canina (Rosehips), Organic Punica granatum (Pomegranate), Organic Fair Trade Certified™ Rooibos, Organic Aloe Barbadensis Vera Leaf Juice, Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate (from Coconut), 100% Naturally-derived Betaine (from Sugar Beets), Vegetable Glycerin, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate (from Coconut + Amino Acids), Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate (from Coconut + Amino Acids), Cocoglucosides Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (Sugar Conditioner), Sodium Levulinate (from Corn), Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (Guar gum conditioner), Potassium Sorbate (food grade preservative), Organic Argania Spinosa (Argan) Oil, Organic Fair-Trade Certified™ Olea Europea (Olive) Oil, D-Alpha Tocopherol Acetate (vitamin E), Ubiquinone (CoQ10), Argania spinosa (Argan) Stem Cells, Organic Persea americana (Avocado) oil, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus (Lemongrass), Lavendula Dentata (French Lavender), Evernia Prunastri (Oakmoss), & Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Essential Oils

Shampoo -John Masters - Bare Unscented Shampoo
rated 5 of 5
Manue 3/3/2013 6:46:00 PM

I do like this shampoo. I guess you need oily hair and sensitive skin to appreciate it. It is the cheapest of the JMO shampoos, and it lathers nicely. I'm not crazy about the ingredient list, there are some unknowns there, but finding a shampoo that works is such pain, that I give it a pass. I use it with the JMO intensive conditioner and get good results (as good as they get with natural shampoo and oily hair I'm afraid). Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera leaf juice) gel,* aqua (water), decyl glucoside, sodium lauroamphoacetate, sodium cocoyl sulfoacetate, babassuamidopropyl betaine, panthenol, guar hydroxypropyl trimonium chloride, hydrolyzed soy protein, sodium pca, hyaluronic acid, sorbitol, arginine, serine, threonine, linum usitatissimum (flaxseed) seed oil,* borago officinalis (borage) seed oil,* helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil,* simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil,* oenothera biennis (evening primrose) oil,* soy tocopherols, symphytum officinale (comfrey) leaf extract,* chamomilla recutica (chamomile) flower extract,* lavandula angustifolia (lavender) flower/leaf/stem extract,* urtica dioica (nettle) root extract,* equisetum hiemale (horsetail) leaf/stem extract,* achillea millefolium (yarrow) extract,* camellia sinensis (white tea) extract,* salix alba (willow) bark extract,* sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate

Shampoo -John Masters - Lavender Rosemary Shampoo
rated 3 of 5
Manue 3/3/2013 6:42:00 PM

I don't love this shampoo, especially given the price. It's a weird brown colour. And my hair gets greasy fairly quickly after using it. I prefer the unscented JMO shampoo, as I feel it is better for my oily hair, and it is a bit cheaper.

Conditioner -John Masters - Lavender & Avocado Intensive Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
Manue 3/3/2013 6:36:00 PM

This is a wonderful organic conditioner. It detangles like no other, without weighing down my fine hair (with a greasy tendency). I only need a tiny amount, so I feel it is worth the $30, given how much better my hair looks. Ingredients: Aqua (water), aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice*, cetyl alcohol, panthenol (vitamin B5), persea gratissima (avocado) oil*, sorbitol, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil*, behentrimonium chloride, lecithin, tocopherol, citric acid, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil*, hydrolyzed soy protein, caprylic/capric triglycerides, mel (honey)*, orbignya oleifera (babassu) seed oil*, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, wheat amino acid, juniperus mexicana (cedarwood) oil*, lonicera japonica (honeysuckle) flower extract, cymbopogon martini (palmarosa) oil*, glycerin, arnica montana (arnica) flower extract*, calendula officinalis (calendula) flower extract*, camellia sinensis (white tea) extract*, chamomilla recutita (chamomile) flower extract*, geraniol†, linalool†

Concealers -Jane Iredale - Active Light Under Eye Concealer
rated 3 of 5
Manue 3/3/2013 6:30:00 PM

I'm on the fence about this 'clean' product. It looks ok in the morning. It highlights and hides darkness a little, but it looks ashy on me. Other downsides are the price as well as the staying power. It's $30 for a tiny pen. And it doesn't really last, so you would have to reapply and on dry skin it may not look as good. Ingredients: Isopropyl Jojobate, Isostearyl Neopentanoate, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Beeswax, Hydrated Silica, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Ozokerite, Boron Nitride, Polygonum Fagopyrum (Buckwheat) Seed Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Camellia Sinensis (White Tea) Leaf Extract, Bisabolol, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Ascorbyl Palmitate. May Contain: Mica, Iron Oxides, Chromium Oxide Greens.

Brows -Jane Iredale - Blonde Brow Gel
rated 5 of 5
Manue 3/3/2013 6:27:00 PM

I love this product, finally a natural brow product that isn't too brown and works on my brows. It is a little pricey ($20), but a little goes a long way. My brows look fuller and more polished, but not overly done and dark. Ingredients: Water, Algae Extract, Beeswax, Stearic Acid, Glycerin, Carnauba Wax, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Oleic Acid, Vanilla Tahitensis Fruit Extract, Sweet Almond Seed Extract. May Contain: Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, Chromium Oxide Greens, Ultramarines.

Deodorants -Unlisted Brand - Soapwalla- Deodorant Cream
rated 5 of 5
Manue 3/3/2013 6:03:00 PM

I have been using this deodorant for about 6 months and it is still my favourite. The ingredients are clean and it keeps odours at bay, especially if you reapply at the end of the day. It won't stop you from seating though, but nothing natural really will. The application is a little messy since you have to use fingers. The jar lasts at least 3-4 months, and I get it for $14. Ingredients: Organic jojoba, sunflower, and rosehip seed oils; shea butter; a combination of all-natural and gluten-free vegetable clays and powders; aluminum-free sodium bicarbonate; organic vegan kosher glycerin; a combination of organic lavender, peppermint, sweet orange, bergapten-free bergamot, and tea tree essential oils.

Cleansers -Dr. Hauschka - Cleansing Cream
rated 3 of 5
Manue 3/3/2013 5:54:00 PM

I have been using this product a few times a week in the morning and I am overall very happy with it. Even though I have very sensitive skin, I feel like I need a tiny bit of exfoliation because it is also dry and can look at bit flaky. The tiny bits of almond meal do a great job at gently exfoliating. I use the 'press and roll' motion that is recommended in the instructions (google it!), so it doesn't aggravate my redness. I concentrate on the areas where I have breakouts (my jaw line). And I think it has helped a little. It is somewhat expensive for the quantity, at about $30 for 1.7 oz. *** Update: I find that my skin looks better when I skip this product, in terms of redness and pimples. I'm not sure why... Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Seed Meal, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Anthyllis Vulneraria Extract, Alcohol, Arachis Hypogaea (Peanut) Oil, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Hypericum Perforatum Flower/Leaf Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Bark/Leaf Extract, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Fragrance (Parfum), Citronellol*, Geraniol*, Malpighia Punicifolia (Acerola) Fruit Extract, Xanthan Gum, Algin *Component of natural essential oils
