This is now the only facial cleanser I can use for my sensitive skin. After starting the prescription treatment Adapalene (the generic for Differin), my skin became hyper-sensitive to even the gentlest of products. No matter what I used, it seemed to suck all the moisture out of my skin. CeraVe hydrating cleanser does an excellent job at keeping my skin hydrated in preparation for the Adapalene treatment, and it keeps my skin balanced (i.e. not dry and not oily) and prevents irritation. If this product has taught me anything, it's that it's not always the strong treatments I use on my face that cause irritation, but the simple fact that many cleansers were drying out my skin and disrupting its natural barrier. Because my skin was dry and irritated from the start, the treatments I used on my face after irritated my skin further. CeraVe keeps my moisture barrier from being disrupted, and as a result, products like BP and Adapalene no longer cause dryness, irritation or redness. Note: This product is not good for removing make up, but I find using a wash cloth or the textured cleansing pads at the supermarket (the flat, cotton disks next to the cotton balls) aids in cleansing the skin and removing make up residue.
Treatments -Clinique - Acne Solutions Clearing Moisturizer Oil-Free

I bought this product after reading Paula Begoun's book "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me," and I couldn't be happier. Yes, it can initially dry your skin. I, however, did not experience any redness or itching other reviewers have described (though, I should say, I have used BP products on my face for years). With continued use and in conjunction with a gentle facial cleanser, I found the dryness subsided with time. In fact, I now consider this product to be very gentle for my skin and the perfect day-time BP treatment to wear under sunscreen and foundation. I have seen a dramatic difference in the tone, texture and clarity of my skin since using this product. It is a bit expensive, but well worth the cost in my opinion considering the clear appearance of my once blemish-ridden face.
Pressed Powders -Maybelline - Dream Matte Pressed Powder

This powder is the best I have ever used. The powder appears to be finely milled thus making its consistency smooth and flawless on skin. I use it over Maybelline Super Stay 24hr Make up, and I find it enhances the smooth effect the foundation imparts on my skin. Does it prevent oil? I believe to a certain extent it does, but I don't think any product can account for the amount of oil an individual's face is going to produce throughout the day. I do think it keeps my face shine free longer than normal. I find too that is goes on smoothly when I touch up during the day. It does not cake, but merely absorbs the excess oil and looks natural (other powders can look so obvious on skin, esp. when applied onto shiny, oily skin). A winner in my book!
Prior to using this product, I suffered mild to moderate acne. My major concerns were these persistent medium-sized pimples that would never come to a head and large, painful cystic pimples that would take weeks to months to finally go away. After reading Paula Begoun's books, "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me" and "The Original Beauty Bible," I decided to take a more gentle approach to my skin care and try this product in the .1% concentration (which by the way, is now available as a generic, Adapalene). Like many of the other reviewers, I did suffer an "initial breakout" of sorts. But, I could see a difference in the pimples that were forming. Most tended to be smaller. They quickly came to a head and popped easily (yes, I pop, so sue me). I found the blemishes (and the popped pimples) healed much faster--normally it took a week to two weeks for my blemishes to fully heal and now it takes two to three days. I had a few cystic-like pimples within the first two weeks of the treatment. However, after being on the product for a month, I can say I have not had any cystic pimples for nearly two weeks now. My skin texture and tone are improving and many of my acne scars are beginning to fade. At present, I do not have one pimple on my face! Initially, this product did dry out my face and it is more sensitive to skin care products and the sun. I have since altered my skin care routine, and now I rarely experience dryness or flaking. If you are combining this product with BP (as I have), it is best to transition slowly to allow your skin to adjust to each product. Be sure to use a gentle sunscreen. I recommend Paula's Choice--her mattifying sunscreen with antioxidants seems to be less "shiny" than other sunscreens and liquid makeup blends beautifully over it. My skin is on it's way to being great. Considering where I was six months ago, this is a major improvement. I couldn't be happier! On a side note: I chose not to take any oral antibiotics or birth control despite my derm's comment that we were "attacking the problem with one hand behind ours backs." To have this kind of improvement without the aid of these medications is phenomenal in my opinion. While many people with severe acne will need these options, I urge anyone considering medication to weigh the decision carefully. I was on my way to severe acne and my doctor immediately prescribed an antibiotic without even considering the harsh products I was using on my face. Thanks to Paula's books, I changed my skin care approach, ditched the pills, asked a derm for Adapalene, and I haven't looked back since!
Let's face it. No foundation or matte product is going halt oil production all together. That being said, I find this foundation keeps me LESS oily throughout the day. The product blends well and sets to a matte finish that lasts a few hours. Even as my skin gets shiny, the product still looks natural on my face. It does a fair job at covering up blemishes and acne scars. I find I rely on concealer less with this product. To add to the smooth effect this foundation imparts, I set it with Maybelline Dream Matte powder. When I get shiny during the day, I touch up with this powder as well. Overall, an excellent foundation. As someone battling mild acne, scars and hyperpigmentation, this foundation has improved my self confidence. For the first time in several months, I feel like people aren't looking at my acne. That's priceless.
