Lip Gloss -Zoya - Hot Lips Glossy Lip Balm - Heatwave
MAChostage 5/16/2013 9:12:00 AM
I am a fan of Zoya's Hot Lips Glossy Lip Balms. Heatwave is the 5th one I've purchased. It looks a bit frightening in the tube, very neon orangey, but on my pigmented lips it's toned down just enough and gives me the perfect amount of color. These glosses/balms have good pigmentation and yes, they are sticky. The stickiness, however, works to their advantage, IMO, in that it wears well on the lips and doesn't feather. Nice and shiny, as well. At $6 I think these are a bargain.

Polishes -Zoya - Godiva
MAChostage 5/16/2013 9:08:00 AM
I can understand how this polish (and others like it) might appeal to some people. I'm discovering, just as I'd always suspected, that I personally just don't care for textured polishes. I have been trying to branch out and give mattes a chance, as well, both on my lips and nails. I just haven't gotten to a point where I can really appreciate them. I will say that the wear with this is great. I've had it on for several days now without any visible signs of wear. I'm thinking about slapping a shiny topcoat on it (even though the instructions say not to) and see if I like it any better.

Polishes -Sephora - Sephora by OPI - Rumba Romance
MAChostage 5/14/2013 9:05:00 PM
I see why this was on sale -- at TJ Maxx. Gorgeous in the bottle, sheer and streaky on the nails. I stopped after the first coat because I wasn't satisfied with it and knew I wasn't willing to do multiple (more than 2) coats. Regretful purchase.

Treatments -L'Oreal - Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm
MAChostage 5/6/2013 1:36:00 PM
Ok, so I'm sold. I have naturally curly, approximate Type III/IV AA hair that is super prone to dryness. I wash and wear my hair and apply heat by blowdrying/flat ironing/hot curling *maybe* once a year. I read the reviews about this product and thought what the heck, I'll try it. Yes sir, it is a miracle worker! From the momemt I put this on my hair I felt the softening. I shampooed my hair first with a clarifying shampoo, which was perfect for readying it for conditioning. The clarifier I use tends to leave the hair feeling stripped, because it truly does remove any product/buildup from the hairshaft. I almost feel like I should stock up on this stuff, since things I tend to love always end up being discontinued.

Lipstick -Wet 'n' Wild - Fergie - Ferguson Crest Cabernet
MAChostage 5/6/2013 7:52:00 AM
My second lipstick from this collection, since the first one I bought left me so impressed. From the Wet 'n' Wild Fergie collection of products. This beautiful lighter wine colored lipstick not only is extremely pigmented and opaque, but it also wears very well without drying out my lips or feathering. These lipsticks are definitely worthy of a look, they are outstanding!

Lipstick -Wet 'n' Wild - Fergie - Fuchsianista
MAChostage 4/28/2013 9:49:00 PM
What a great surprise! I saw a little Wet 'n' Wild Fergie collection of products on an endcap in Walgreen's and was instantly drawn to this bright fuchsia colored lipstick. The surprise for me is that, not only is it extremely pigmented and opaque, the lipstick wears very well without drying out my lips or feathering. I'm definitely going to go back and take a second look at the rest of them. I can't believe how outstanding this lipstick is!

Lip Gloss -Butter London - Queen Vic
MAChostage 4/23/2013 11:48:00 AM
Queen Vic is one of Butter London's "liquid lipsticks". It's definitely what I'd consider a gloss. It's a nice (but dupeable) deep fuschia that goes on shiny but a little more sheer than I'd expected. It had average wear, with not a lot of feathering, but I wasn't bowled over by it in any particular area.

Blush -Sephora - Double Contouring Cream Blush - Coral Flush

I'm also a fan of this beautiful color and formula. My first Sephora blush, I bought it to feed my latest coral/orange makeup kick. I love the subtle luminescence.

Mascara -Mary Kay - Lash Love Mascara
MAChostage 4/15/2013 7:30:00 AM
I received a generous sample size of this mascara and I like it a lot. A couple of the qualities that other reviewers seem to be put out with here (wetness of the formula, brush overall) are things that are positives to me. I've not experienced clumping with this. I think that application technique largely affects what your lashes ultimately look like when you're done. I plan on buying a tube of this.

Liquid -Cover Girl - Queen Collection All Day Flawless 3-in-1
MAChostage 4/9/2013 10:38:00 AM
Every once in a while I am impressed by a beauty product. This is my latest great find! This foundation combines concealer, foundation and powder (hence the "3-in-1"), along with SPF (20, I think). Beautiful finish, great coverage and wears very well. Comes in 14 different shades. I am NC44 in MAC and my shade in this is 805 Amber Glow. As with all products in the Queen portion of Cover Girl's line, you'll find this product primarily in stores that serve "urban" areas. It can be found at various online retailers, also, with one in particular having the best price of any, as well as a wider array of color availability. Very impressive foundation that should work well for most folks of color.

Polishes -Zoya - Logan
MAChostage 4/5/2013 10:00:00 AM
Logan is from Zoya's Ornate collection, which happens to be my favorite nail polish collection in a long time. I felt like all of the colors were absolute knockouts. Zoya describes Logan as a "yellow-toned forest green with dense, foil-like yellow-gold and blue-green duochrome shimmer." I'd say the description is spot on but of all the collection's beauties it's my least favorite. I love greens, but this particular polish just doesn't grab me the way the others in the collection did. It's still a great polish with those great Zoya qualities (beautiful application, long wear).

Lip Liners -NYX - Slim Lip Pencil - Prune 834
MAChostage 4/3/2013 8:18:00 AM
I don't think I'd call the color "scary" or "goth" but it is a nice, unmistakable purple. Rumored to be an acceptable substitute for MAC's limited edition lip pencil in Heroine, I bought this because I didn't have a pure purple liner like this. Currently using it often with Maybelline's Color Sensational lipgloss in Mirrored Plum, a great pairing. Doesn't feather, this is a great quality liner with a pleasing lower price point.

Lip Gloss -Maybelline - Color Sensational in Mirrored Plum #240
MAChostage 4/1/2013 11:23:00 AM
Mirrored Plum is the second Color Sensational gloss I've purchased recently. I was not familiar with these glosses until I read about the excitement it was generating, particularly as an acceptable substitute for the highly anticipated MAC Heroine lipglass. I have seen swatches of Heroine and I agree that Mirrored Plum is just as lovely, and a whole lot cheaper! The gloss wears well and doesn't bleed or feather. It's also not as sticky as MAC lipglass. One could run into a problem trying to find this gloss, however. Several people, including me, have had a difficult time locating it. It is part of a special, limited edition display and there are possibly only two of each color. It took me trips to seven stores before I finally found it.

Polishes -Color Club - Cosmic Fate
MAChostage 3/29/2013 11:40:00 AM
"Cosmic Fate" is one of six new colors from Color Club's 2013 Halo Hues collection. It is a soft, coppery shade with a great holographic quality. You could get away with one good coat, but I prefer two. Although you can see the holographic property of the polish under normal light, it's under sunlight that it knocks your socks off! Pros: fast drying, opaque formula. Con: the formula will likely thicken easily and relatively quickly (for that I removed a lippy). Also, a top coat is needed, as the finish dulls a bit once dry. Of the six colors in the collection, this one is personally my least favorite because it is the more neutral of the group against my NC44 skintone. It's still a lovely shade.
