Mascara -L'Oreal - Waterproof Voluminous Carbon Black

I am getting ready for a beach vacation. While I wear Clinique mascara daily, I opted for a cheapy waterproof option for around the water. I was a bit skeptical after reading some horribly bad reviews on this site (raccoon eyes, flakes everywhere, etc), but I gave it a whirl yesterday as a trial run. I am completely shocked this has such bad reviews. I put it on at 10am and took it off at 11:30pm....it was a 90 degree day, I ran errands, visited some friends, etc...My mascara didn't budge at all. In fact, the most annoying part was trying to remove it because it stays on so well. I even did a water test...I splashed some water on face...ran my wet fingers over my lashes...nothing! No flakes, no smudges...nothing! I even applied several coats for extra volume, which worked out great too. I admit it's not as good my Clinique favorite, and I wouldn't wear this for daily use. However, it's really a great option for water activities. I do keep my makeup minimal for the beach, but I do feel naked without mascara. I am looking forward to wearing this on vacation, and I certainly have no complaints with this mascara for its $6.50 price tag.

Fragrances -Avon - Chic In Black
rated 1 of 5

Chic in Black just recently became available again on Avon's website. I heard so many good reviews about this perfume--it's sophisticated, smells like a pricier brand, it's a classic scent, etc. Sounded good enough to me. I ordered a bottle for $12.99 and it came today. I was SO excited to try it, but with one spritz I was THOROUGHLY disappointed. In reality, this is just another cheap Avon perfume...it's totally gross, not at all sophisticated, and it's surely not like any perfume I've purchased before. I do own and really enjoy other sophisticated and classic scents in a variety of price levels, ranging from Chanel perfume to inexpensive body spritzes, but Chic in Black just smells like cheap musky florals...it sort of reminds me of bad potpourri. Anyway, I am going to give mine to my husband's grandma...I think she will enjoy it more than I do. This is not for anyone younger than 60 I would say. (I am 30-yrs-old)

Polishes -Essie - Allure
rated 5 of 5

I love Essie polishes! I usually go for deeper colors, but I needed to add a sheer/white color to my collection. I've purchased cheapie cream/ sheer colors to experiment with, and they all looked terrible on me. When I heard that Kate Middleton chose Essie Allure, I thought "what the heck...i'm an Essie Fan" so I bought a bottle. WOW....this color is amazing! It is my go-to polish when I want to look sophisticated.... or if I need to look sophisticated in a hurry and cannot apply multiple coats. One quality layer of Allure looks amazing and adds a professional-looking touch with minimal effort. I have also done up to 3 coats of this on my nails, and it looks amazing. I can wear it very sheer with 1 coat, or with a slightly more opaque look with 3 coats. This is an Awesome choice!

Lipstick -Avon - Shine Attract
rated 2 of 5
Love4Tulips 1/18/2012 4:55:00 PM

I ordered a preview size of the new Avon shine attract so I could try it before deciding to buy a full-size one in an upcoming Campaign. First of all, the sample was .79 cents with $10 purchase. This sample size is so small, it should have been free with $10 purchase, IMO. Anyway, I think Avon is very hit or miss, and sadly, this one is a major Miss. I ordered the color Plumberry, which is a very pretty pinky/plum color, and the color is also the only redeeming quality about this stuff. The formula is not shiny at all...not even slightly glossy (why they called it SHINE Attract is beyond me). It has a weird taste and very weird feel on the lips...it's actually very drying. The application is also awkward, because the only bit of color is in the very center surrounded by the clear stuff wrapped around it. The color goes on unevenly and looks strange until you put your lips together to blend it. In short, I am not going to buy the full size of this item. I'm glad I got to try it out before wasting $6 or whatever the full size price will be. There are much nicer lip products out there for sure.
