Lip Gloss -Laura Mercier - Cocoa Lait

I have a very different experience with this than the previous reviewer. I am an NW20 with very (pink) pigmented lips. This actually looks like a great neutral earthy nude on me, used alone, and is pigmented enough to neutralize the pink in my lips to a soft J-Lo-esque nude, warm glow. The MA saw it on me after I tried it on and complimented me, thinking it was a lipstick! So YMMV depending on the color or pigment in your lips, because this did not pull brown on me at all.

Lipstick -Nuance by Salma Hayek - Lipstick in Dusty Rose
rated 5 of 5

I have had the worst time with lipsticks lately. Every single lipstick I own in the high-end brands, you name it - Chanel, Guerlain, NARS, etc. -- even in their moisturizing formulas, do NOT work for me. I have a hard time with even application or even if it initially applies evenly, I am left with weird white patches after an hour or so. THIS IS THE FIRST LIPSTICK I HAVE FOUND THAT STAYS TRUE TO COLOR ALL DAY AND DOES NOT FEATHER OR BALL UP ON MY LIPS. And I paid only $10.99 for it at CVS. The color is absolutely stunning, a more pinkish dupe for Bobbi Brown Brownie. It looks so beautiful and natural on my NW20 warm toned skin. I can't say enough good things about this color or formulation. Of course the packaging is a bit cheap, but I don't mind for this price.

Eyeliner -Nuance by Salma Hayek - Lasting Wear Gel Liner
rated 5 of 5
Lola_Bear 8/20/2011 4:39:00 PM

I purchased the gel liner in "black." I love it! Just like the packaging says, it gives the look of a gel liner or liquid liner, and it truly stays put all day! Applies like a dream. I have nothing bad to say about this. I want to try "grey" as well.

Pressed Powders -Nuance by Salma Hayek - Mineral Powder
rated 5 of 5
Lola_Bear 8/20/2011 4:37:00 PM

I have to disagree with the negative reviews. This was a great powder for me. For reference, I am NW20 - Stila 20 Watts - Chanel B20 - normal-to-dry skin, with little need for much coverage, except to set my tinted moisturizer and even out everything. This worked perfectly for that purpose. The color stayed true all day, it is a nice consistency in that it does not fly everywhere when you put it on your brush, unlike some of the other mineral powders. The only bad thing I can say is that I really dislike the packaging. It looks cheap and the clasp at the opening is weird.

Pressed Powders -Wet 'n' Wild - Natural Wear - Bare
rated 5 of 5

I grabbed this on the day of my wedding reception as I had run out of the MAC Mineral powder I normally wear and the ingredients looked good. Wow. Impressive. No need to spend $30+ on a high-end mineral powder. Good natural coverage and stays true to color by the end of the day.

Cleansers -Mario Badescu - Seaweed Cleansing Soap
rated 1 of 5
Lola_Bear 8/13/2009 2:27:00 PM

This wrecked my skin. After using it for about 5 days, I was left with dry, flaky patches on my mouth and chin area. It's really drying, I think, due to the presence of Sodium Laureth Sulfate. Avoid if you have dry, sensitive skin like mine.

Masks -Alba Botanica - Deep Sea Facial Mask
rated 1 of 5
Lola_Bear 7/14/2008 2:07:00 PM

I had the same problem as some of the previous reviewers -- this burned my skin, and made me all blotchy. The first time I used it, it was fine. Subsequent usage resulted in serious irritiation.

Polishes -OPI - Orange You From NY?
rated 5 of 5
Lola_Bear 7/11/2008 9:29:00 PM

Holy grail. I just plunked down $20.00 on Ebay for this polish. I was looking for an alternative to the typical bright, blood red. I wouldn't say this had a lot of orange in it; it's more like a red coral. Very hard to describe. Maybe even a touch of brown?

Lip Treatments -Dr. Denese - Hydroshield Lip Intensive Balm
rated 5 of 5
Lola_Bear 4/20/2008 4:06:00 PM

I got this as part of the Hydroshield Set, which included a full-sized Hydroshield Eye Serum and a full-sized Hydroshield Face Serum, all for $60.00. This is the perfect color for me, a warm peachy/pinky/browny color which looks very natural but yet is pigmented enough to give me a nice color pay-off. True to it's name, it's extremely moisturizing and it lasts a long time. It looks nice with a peach gloss on top; I used Dior Addict Plastic Gloss #244. I did a very nice face last night with this combination along with NARS Key Largo Eyeshadow duo. It was gorgeous together. I don't think this would suit anyone with cool undertones, as it's a warm peach with hints of pink. For reference -- I'm a MAC NW20, on the warm side. One last note -- I didn't subtract any lippies for this downside, but it is worth noting -- the packaging is really flimsy and cheap plastic, especially for this price. I've been having trouble keeping the lid on.

Polishes -OPI - It's All Greek To Me
rated 5 of 5
Lola_Bear 4/19/2008 4:19:00 PM

I disagree with the previous reviewers who said only darker complexions , or those with a tan, can pull this off. It looks beautiful on my toes, and I'm pretty pale and on the warm side (MAC NW20). That said, I probably wouldn't wear it on my hands, as it is VERY bold. But, for a nice summer pedicure color, I think this rocks!

Highlighters -BeneFit Cosmetics - High Beam
rated 5 of 5
Lola_Bear 4/7/2008 10:25:00 PM

Holy Grail. For reference -- Stila 20 Watts, MAC NW20, Everyday Minerals Fair-Medium. I saw Carmindy using this on her Five-Minute face video from YouTube, and I swapped for it, sight-unseen. Carmindy uses it on the inner corner of the eye and then makes a kind of C shape with it, starting at the top of the brow and then curving around to the top of the cheekbones. This is exactly how I used it. The effect is subtle and gorgeous. The two times that I have worn this, my boyfriend commented that I looked "really pretty" that day, but he couldn't put his finger on it. This gives you a glow that appears to come from the inside. Trust me, try this. If you want to see the video where Carmindy uses this, try this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPVwKsYAmOQ

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Mode de Vie Shea Butter Lip Balm
rated 1 of 5
Lola_Bear 4/4/2008 2:56:00 PM

I bought this based on all the reviews here. I found it at my local Whole Foods, near the checkout counter. I'm very disappointed. It's hard to apply, as it's not very creamy or emollient. It does not moisturize my lips. It left my lips dry and flaking/balling up.

Holy Grail. I'm a MAC NW20, Stila 20 Watts. Perfect, natural color on me. Easy to apply, never fake looking, stays put.

Mascara -Origins - Fringe Benefits Lash loving mascara
rated 5 of 5
Lola_Bear 3/29/2008 6:38:00 PM

Another great find thanks to MUA. This is a wonderful mascara for a natural, but enhanced, look. I like this better than Clinique Naturally Glossy, as it provides more volume, in my opinion. Never clumps, never flakes, applies easily and stays put....but comes off easily with eye makeup remover. I've also noticed that it does NOT dry out and has lasted very well for three months.

Powder -Stila - Illuminating Powder Foundation
rated 5 of 5
Lola_Bear 3/20/2008 1:16:00 PM

I've been wearing this product off and on for eight years. After experimenting with countless mineral and other powder foundations, all of which disappointed, I keep coming back to this. It provides just the finish I am after -- a luminous, natural finish, not too matte, not too shiny -- without looking like a "mask." It does not dry me out or irritate my skin. It provides the perfect amount of coverage, and 20 Watts is a perfect match (I'm a NW20 in MAC). I've tried wearing it with a silicone-based foundation primer, and from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. the next day, it did NOT budge. I've also tried it over Dr. Denese's Foundation Faker, and it complements it perfectly. I'm not sure this would work for someone who needs heavy coverage, as it provides light to medium, buildable coverage.
