Polishes -Revlon - Colorstay Nail Polish - Vintage Rose

The color is beautiful--a nice light pinkish shade that is flattering on every skin tone. However, the consistency is thick, the polish comes out streaky, and takes much too long to dry. It's understandable that in these economic times not everyone can afford a professional manicure--however if you want to diy, invest in a quality product like Essie or OPI--it will last you longer and the effects will be so much better.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Falsies

This product is a one hit wonder--seriously, it only looks good with the first application. I have tried many, many mascaras, but this is perhaps the only one that was almost unusable the next day. It was a clumpy, flaking mess. After a few hours, I had the much-loathed raccoon eyes and my lashes looked like spider legs. Would not recommend.

Liquid -Make Up For Ever - Mat Velvet PLUS Matifying Foundation

This is a product more appropriate for special occasions than for everyday wear. Firstly, when you are matched in the right shade, it comes out very nicely in photographs (both natural light and flash). Secondly, it is very resilient when a setting powder is applied over it--you can sweat it out on the dance floor, and this will remain close to pristine. However, there are unfortunate consequences--it is a bit too good to be true. It has caused me some of the worst breakouts I have ever had--the secret of its resilience is that it blocks your skin's moisture from escaping; all of that sweat clogs up the pores and causes whiteheads, blackheads, and cysts. It wouldn't be such a good idea to use it long term--it is not breathable and it is drying.

Liquid -L'Oreal - True Match Super-Blendable Makeup SPF 17

Even though this is not HG material, I keep "boomeranging" to this product. I've found that though it's not perfect, it's so much better than some of the more expensive stuff out there (e.g., Nars, Makeup Forever) Pros -good, buildable coverage-especially if applied with a sponge -wide color selection -amazing staying power--with a good setting powder, this is water resilient (not fully waterproof, but it gave me amazing coverage and staying power when I went to a water park) Cons -can look mask-like if applied too heavily -can break you out with prolonged use, especially in the summer -does not look natural in all lighting Overall, this is a good "emergency" product to have around when you run out of your more expensive foundation and need a quick replacement. Though I have combination skin that gets oily in the t-zone in the summertime, this stays put very well. If you're strapped for cash, this is a good product to invest in--it lasts a long time. While the packaging is not the best, you kind of get what pay for in that regard.

Liquid -NARS - Sheer Glow Foundation

After reading many "glowing" reviews of this product, I decided to give it a shot. A sales associate matched me as Mont Blanc and gave me a sample. When I first applied it in the morning at 8am (over Lorac's AquaPrime) and set it with Cargo's HD pressed powder, it looked amazing. Illuminated with a glow that was truly sheer at first, my face looked healthy and revitalized. However, when I looked in the mirror two hours later, I was horrified--my glow had metamorphosed into a greasy mess. I delicately used blotting sheets, which partially remedied the situation, but I noticed that the foundation was not staying on too well--it had creased into my laugh lines and I had strange lines on my forehead--which I have never experienced. The strangest thing happened once I reached the evening--my fiance, which a scared look on his face, asked if I was feeling alright because my face looked green. I looked in a mirror myself, and found it to be true--the light reflectors in the foundation were causing my face to appear green. I washed the foundation off, and swore it off. Perhaps individuals who use a darker shade will not experience this last situation. However, I do not feel that this is a suitable foundation for those with combo or oily skin, for it seems to overmoisturize. Additionally, I found that it emphasized my dark spots. If you are on the fence about this one, get a sample first before shelling out the big bucks.
