I got this in a 2 fl oz sample size after last Christmas. Gosh, why did I wait until now to crack it open? It's lovely for such a cheapie lotion. I just used it on my hands and it just seeped right in. Won't be vegan-friendly, I see it has beeswax. I don't think of it as a true marshmallow, but a light vanilla musk as described before. More of a powdered sugar/ozone note than foody. I would repurchase, but I'm on a SERIOUS no-buy. There's a chance this fragrance won't be available when I run out of my stash. Oh, well. Just pleased overall. I had no idea the texture of the Calgon lotions could be so lovely.
Shampoo -Suave - Naturals Juicy Green Apple Shampoo
LolaLeRoi 5/3/2007 7:26:00 AM
I only use this shampoo myself when I need a cheapie clarifying shampoo. But, this is an amazing "boy shampoo." It's a really appealing scent on men. It's fruity without being too femme. This is a good standard to have around the house, you can't beat the price! Yes, it's very Jolly Ranchers-like, I agree.
Deodorants -Secret - Sparkle Deodorant - Vanilla Sparkle
LolaLeRoi 5/1/2007 4:33:00 PM
Oh, GODDAMNIT. I e-mailed Proctor and Gamble and found out it's discontinued. Grrr. Hopefully they'll have enough complaints and requests, and they'll bring back this scent in their product line. *pouts, stomps foot* I'll try the Vanilla Chai once I run out of the Vanilla Sparkle. I hope Vanilla Chai works with my body chemistry!
Kiss My Face Moisture Shave in Vanilla Earth is a lovely, mild scent. It's a very "mellow" vanilla that doesn't over-power the scent of any other product you may want to use. The pump bottle is very simple and attractive, and the pump works very well. I like that the pump bottle doesn't get waterlogged in the shower! Directions are simple: "Wet hands, lather in palm and apply." It provides a very smooth glide for shaving, and I didn't nick myself once. My only annoyance is that it contails Propylene Glycol, which gives my legs that kind of coated, almost resinous feel after shaving. Why put this ingredient in a "natural" product? Kinda odd. It doesn't have a greasy feel, though. Anyone expecting a lot of foam will be dissapointed, it's not that kind of shaving product. I think I would rate it higher if it didn't have the Propylene Glycol - I really think it doesn't need it. It'd be just fine if they added almond oil instead, IMO. Moisture Shave does exactly what the product says it does, though, so I'm impressed! ***Edit: I have used this a few more times, and I can honestly say this is my most pleasant shaving product to use, ever! I actually nick myself a lot less, even if I'm shaving in a rush. I would recommend this to anyone.
Demeter Black Russian is the scent of coffee liquor, plus vodka. The vodka/alcohol note is very strong, but fades quickly. The coffee note on me is a lot like a dark-roasted espresso bean, with no other notes. It doesn't go sour on me, but I wear coffee scents well. The lasting power is not super-great, but that's normal with Demeter. Currently, Black Russian is $4.75 on Sephora.com, which leads me to believe it might possibly soon be discontinued. They seem to be paring down the "Happy Hour Collection," and getting rid of some fragrances. (It looks like Sex on The Beach, Cosmopolitan, and Fuzzy Navel will stick around, because they are at normal price.) Black Russian seems to be a really good layering note, though - my bf suggested I layer it with The Body Shop's Amorito, and that combo makes for a wonderful coffee-house drink scent, like a yummy Starbucks mocha! So, if you love coffee scents, and/or want to get a bit of a java boost when you layer your fragrances, I would highly recommend picking up Demeter Black Russian.
Treatments -Totally Juicy - Mango Taffy Pore Strips
LolaLeRoi 12/8/2006 7:07:00 AM
What an odd product! It's strange, but in a good, entertaining way. I have it on right now, and I don't feel much burning? I didn't cleanse or exfoliate my face first, though, because the instructions didn't mention that. I also have a higher pain threshold than the average woman, so what I think of as tingling might be more stingy to you. I've had masks be much more stingy. I like the smell - I think it smells like tropical citrus cough drops (because of the menthol). This is nice, because the boyfriend doesn't like products that smell super-mediciney. This is more fruity medicinal. Application is tricky! It definitely sticks to your fingers, and if you try to apply it the way the package suggests - "Squeeze a ribbon directly onto clogged area" - you will have a bit of a mess on your hands! And your faucet tap of your sink. I ended up getting it at Drugstore.com on a whim. I think I'd purchase it again, if I saw it, or I needed to fill-out an online order to bump it to free shipping. Unfortunately, It's one of those products I saw once at Walgreens, decided to try later, and never saw it again. (Anyone else from Chicago notice this happens a LOT with cheap interesting drugstore products??? It's annoying!!!) ***Edit: Ok, I'm peeling it off now, at least the fully dried bits. I don't think it does much of anything, but I love peel-off masks. They're kind of goofy and fun to me. I've had other peel-off masks hurt MUCH worse than this! I must be a glutton for punishment or something, this isn't bad at all to me?
Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - Lushbox Inc Vegan Whipped Body Frosting
LolaLeRoi 12/7/2006 5:51:00 PM
I can't believe I didn't review this product, yet! Lushbox, Inc. Vegan Whipped Body Frosting is AMAZING! It sinks in very quickly, and is non-greasy. It comes in various scents, but my personal favorite is Angel Cake. I also purchased a full-sized one of Almond Biscotti - it's very almond-y, and my boyfriend is not a fan of almond scents (darnit, oh, well, I'll use it, anyway). Not sure what fragrance you want? Try one of Luca's sampler sets. I got these in 6 oz size, but it looks like they now have 8 oz sizes! My 6 oz one was filled to the very tip-top, though. Luca has amazing customer service, and just an unbelievable scent list. Everything is very super-scented! She will also do custom orders. You can get her stuff from www.lushbox.com, and www.lushboxinc.etsy.com. I will make a final note - don't eat Vegan Whipped Body Frosting! It smells edible, and some tv hosts have eaten it. Good and yummy for the *outside* of the body! Not the inside. :D
Lotions/ Creams -The Body Shop - Almond Body Butter
LolaLeRoi 11/30/2006 2:08:00 PM
I adore this body butter, but won't buy it again. The bf really doesn't like certain almond-y scents...and this is one of them that bothers him. It comes really close to triggering an allergic reaction for him, drat! Scent-wise? I think it's more of an "almond extract" almond, rather than a powdery almond, buttery almond, or super-foody almond. I am not a fan of TBS's body butter packaging. This product could just as easily be in a squeeze tube. I wish it came in a 2 oz squeeze tube - that would be a good price and size for it. This is now at my desk for moisturizing my hands after washing my hands, but I sadly won't bother repurchasing it. TBS body butter always seems a bit greasy to me, but I tissue off the excess whenever I apply it.
Secret Vanilla Sparkle body spray is one of my bf's favorites. No, I don't know why he adores very fake foody smells so much. I think anything that smells like baked goods or candy sprinkles? He likes. As mentioned by other reviewers, this stuff is STRONG - spray very lightly, go easy on it. It can be almost headache-inducingly sweet. Fans of rich gourmand sophisticated vanillas should stay far, far away. It's very teenager-y, so it's for the young, or the young at heart. Or for the gal whose bf wants her to smell like a container of rainbow sprinkles -- and, really, is that such a bad thing, if you think about it? :-)
Oh, goody. I was just looking up myrrh on wikipedia, because I saw it was one of the ingredients in Eggsnog (blech!), and I suspected it was the ingredient that turned the yummy eggnoggy goodness into a bitter mess. While it's true that myrrh has healing salve properties, it's also true that the word "myrrh" comes from the Hebrew word for BITTER. So, NEWS FLASH, LUSH!!! MYRRH IS BITTER. I'm mad at myself because I bought this when I was in a bad mood and needed a pick-me-up, even though I'd already read the reviews. *kicks self* The screw-cap of the tin is fiddly and annoying. I actually don't mind the greasy-balm texture. Gudonya's Lip Smoothies are 1,562 times better than this, and much cheaper. If anyone finds a good eggnog lip balm (not gloss), let me know. Because, baby, this ain't it! I think I may use this as a nail butter. Or to fix squeaky hinges or something...
Gels/Soaps -Avon - Naturals Vanilla Antibacterial Hand Gel
LolaLeRoi 11/27/2006 12:04:00 PM
I just got this on sale for $1.99 at Avon.com, with free shipping. I needed a pick-me-up to get me through my frustrating work-days. This is a very nice alternative to other hand sanitizers! The alcohol makes it smell like vanilla vodka at first, but it fades quickly. I am pleasantly surprised that this formula is pretty hydrating - must be the aloe. The 2.5 fl oz tube is nice for my desk, but I wish they had a mini-purse size - perhaps they do, and I didn't see it? A nice faint vanilla extract scent. Much better than those overwhelming soapy florals, or sickening fake berry scents, that store-brand hand sanitizers have. A definite repurchase, but I think I'll wait for sales and stock up! :D
Gels/Soaps -Softsoap - Softsoap Pomegranate and Mango bodywash
LolaLeRoi 11/13/2006 5:39:00 PM
Me again! I'm an idiot, and can't figure out how to update my original review. I just wanted to say that I did try Softsoap Pomegranate Mango Bodywash as a shave gel, and it works! Thanks to the previous reviewer who'd mentioned this! *** Ack! I lost my previous review! Damnit. OK, trying this again. I will confirm that This shower gel rocks for the price. The hole in the cap is small, and means you won't lose a lot of shower gel. The Mango scent is similar to TBS's Mango shower gel. This shower gel is not squeaky-clean stripping to the skin. However, it's not the most ultra-moisturizing, either. The little moisture beads look like pomegranate seeds in glowiness and color. I would definitely purchase this again! Great product for the price. If they discontinue this, I will kick someone at Colgate-Polmolive in the freakin' ankle! The end.
Fragrances -Creative Scentualization - Perfect Vanilla
LolaLeRoi 11/3/2006 7:32:00 AM
Got this as a sample from Luckyscent - which is why I'm just giving the packaging a 3, because mine is a teeny sample vial. . Calling any fragrance "perfect" is a bad idea, IMO, because perfumes are a different experience for many women, due to body chemistry. How can a fragrance be perfect on everyone??? That's just a foolish way to name a fragrance. On me, it's a powdery vanilla, not smoky at all. I didn't catch any of the blood orange at all? How weird. I have a body chemistry that can kill very faint fragrances, though. I actually love the smell of a tobacco shop, so I do personally enjoy the tobacco note on me. It doesn't get overly wet or stanky, it's just a faint whiff. I kind of wish this was a warmer, spicier vanilla. Would not repurchase, because the staying power is just meh.
Fragrance -Unlisted Brand - Bissys Boutique Perfume Roll on Strawberry Jam
LolaLeRoi 11/1/2006 3:44:00 PM
I got this perfume roll-on in my Boo Bag of all foody/bakery scents. The roll-on is alcohol-based, which I think I like better than oil-based ones. Alcohol-based scents don't have that weird greasy feeling on me, and the scent seemed to stay more true on my skin. The scent level is strong. Strawberry Jam is not a natural strawberry, and it isn't "jammy" or preserve-like. My bf says it smells like Starburst candy, and he's absolutely right. Fortunately, it's one of his favorite candies, and I've noticed he likes artificial scents that remind him of his fave childhood treats. :-) It's a .33 oz roll-on, with a screw-on cap that doesn't leak or seems to get dried shut. The size is about lipstick-tube sized, great for a purse. It's a glass vial. I think I would buy this scent again. If I got it in a lotion, I'd go for lightly scented. A happy surprise in my Boo Bag!
Gels/Soaps -Unlisted Brand - Villainess Dulces En Fuego
LolaLeRoi 10/23/2006 1:49:00 PM
Villainess Sudz in Dulces En Fuego - This is an amazing CP soap bar! It's bitter chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and black pepper. Cracked black pepper is sprinkled on top. It's a very "grown up" kind of chocolate - almost more incense-perfumey than foody. I cut the bar in half, and am currently using the part without the sprinkled-on black pepper, so the pepper-y note might not be as strong. This is a LOVELY, high-quality bar of soap. It's moisturizing and has nice lather, and has shea butter, mango butter, coconut oil...It's really an amazing bar of soap, because has such an unusual, mature quality to the fragrance. It kind of reminds me slightly of Mexican Hot Chocolate. It's also a hard bar, that doesn't just melt away. I got it at The Soapbox Co. (www.thesoapboxco.com). Villainess products are also available at www.villainess.net. That's "dot NET!!!" Not, "dot com!" If you go to "www.villainess.com," you will wind up looking at nude women, as that site's a "naughty site." Type the site name carefully if the kiddies are around!
