Cleansers -Shu Uemura - Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/I
rated 1 of 5
Lo_li_ta 10/8/2010 7:38:00 PM

I have been using MACs cleansing oil for years and years. Unfortunately I got bored and wanted to try something new. The SA at the counter was hardly helpful, but recommended this cleanser for my skin type (oily/combo, sensitive, acne prone). Using it for the first time, I found it was definitley thicker than MAC's, but removed makeup very well. I found it harder to remove than MACs as well, and felt that it left a bit of a residue behind. No wonder the SA was trying to pressure me into purchasing a toner! Happily enough I used this cleansing oil for about a month before I started getting raging breakouts on my forehead, cheeks, chin, neck and chest. Hundreds of weird whiteheads! I was totally in denial that this was caused by the oil - my Dr. thought I had folliculitis from practicing hot yoga and prescribed me antibiotics! Obviously, through the process of elimination, I figured out this was the culprit. By then, it was too late to return it, and the damn SA refused to exchange it too, so now I have a $70 bottle of acne juice sitting in my cupboard.

Moisturizers -Dove - Sensitive Essentials Day Cream
rated 5 of 5
Lo_li_ta 2/2/2008 7:20:00 PM

I have repurchased this moisturizer probably 10 times. I have normal combo skin. Doves sensitive line contains the only moisturizer products that don't eventually irritate my skin. I do find that I occasionally get tiny whiteheads on my forehead if I use this too many days in a row however. For this reason I also use (and love) the lotion version in the jar and alternate the two. I love love love this and will die if they discontinue it. As for the jar, yes, I hate it too. But seeing as I only apply this after washing my face, my hands are reasonably clean and thus I'm not ridiculously paranoid about "contaminating" the product.

I have repurchased this moisturizer probably 10 times. I have normal combo skin, and this is probably the only moisturizer I have ever used that has not irritated my skin or eventually caused me to break out. As this is a lotion, it doesn't give you super-heavy-duty moisturization - for this reason I also use (and love) the cream version in the jar and alternate the two when I am drier. I love love love this and will die if they discontinue it.

Hair -Sunsilk - ThermaShine Detangling Shine Spray
rated 5 of 5
Lo_li_ta 2/2/2008 7:06:00 PM

Love this stuff! I'm a bit of a high end snob, but sunsilk is winning me over. This spray does its job; detangles and shines. I cant really attest to the heat-protection quality however - I use an additional heat protectant. The big win of this product is that it doesn't weigh my hair down at all which is usually a huge problem for me when it comes to leave-in sprays (for reference I have highly processed, slightly wavy, fine hair, but have a lot of it). For less than $4 Canadian, this is a HUGE score. Will continue to rebuy.

Conditioner -Aussie - Moist Conditioner
rated 4 of 5
Lo_li_ta 4/18/2007 1:40:00 PM

This is a pretty good conditioner for a DS product. My HG is B&B superrich, but I'm a student and funds are tight right now, so I opted for this stuff for the time being. Honestly, it does make my hair feel soft and smooth and well, moisturized (although I'm not sure if it really is moisturized, or if its an effect of silicones). It worked beautifully the first time, I had GORGEOUS hair... but (ahh the but...!) I have fine hair, and I feel that this product weighs it down a bit and makes it kinda stringy looking if I use it every day. The smell is strong, but nice (the bf likes it a lot!), texture is good and it really detangles. I just need to alternate products for it to work.

Gels/Soaps -Olay - Bodywash Plus Radiance Ribbons
rated 4 of 5
Lo_li_ta 4/18/2007 1:34:00 PM

I like the other ribbon body washes from Olay, but havent used them for a while. I saw this new one in the drug store and liked the smell (fruity, not so flowery), so I bought it despite not knowing exactly what effect it would really have. This product makes a lot of weird claims - "radiance ribbons, glucosamine complex and luminous brighteners to help recapture a youthful glow in 5 days". Wtf does that even mean? Anyway, I tried it, smells nice, lots of lather, and very moisturizing (terrible for shaving though, clogs up my razor). The only special effect I've noticed from this product is the sparklies it leaves behind (with one use, not 5!), which are ok, but I'm not crazy about them. Apparently all those claims mean is that Olay threw in some tiny glitter particles into the mix. Nice body wash and all, but really, its just got some sparkles in it.

Makeup Brushes -Tarte - Glam on the Go Kabuki
rated 2 of 5
Lo_li_ta 2/27/2007 8:47:00 PM

WTH? I liked this brush at first, but this thing sheds like crazy! It loses long hairs and TONS of tiny little broken hairs that I have to pick off my face! Not only that, but the brush itself has totally separated from the handle. UGH! I really dont think its possible that I'm not taking care of it either - perhaps I have a dud. I recently got the MAC Kabuki which is way softer and so far hasnt shed on me at all.

BLECH! build-up city! This stuff is okay, it detangles really well, but seriously weighs down my fine-ish hair. Smells like grapefruit dishsoap.

Lip Gloss -Dessert Beauty - Deliciously Kissable Lip Plumping Fragrance Gloss in Sunny
rated 5 of 5
Lo_li_ta 8/17/2006 10:51:00 PM

I scored this gloss (and a bunch of other Dessert items) at liquidation world for super cheap. This gloss cost me $2.99 CAD! bwahahahha. I would NEVER buy this for full price though. Anyway, I LOVE this gloss, it smells delicious (a little synthetic, but peach seems to be a tricky scent for manufacturers to master) and tastes just as good. This is one of the few (if not only) glosses Dessert makes without glitter in it as well. Its *slightly* tingly, but doesnt plump at all. Totally non-sticky but still shiney, and a nice peachy MLBB color on me (although I have pretty unpigmented lips). I'm thinking about picking up a couple more, you cant lose for 3 bucks a piece :)

Sunscreen -Aveeno - Aveeno Baby Sunblock Lotion SPF 45
rated 4 of 5
Lo_li_ta 5/7/2006 1:35:00 PM

I really love this stuff. I bought this one (as opposed to the continous protection variety) because it has absolutley no scent. It's REALLY thick though, which is a bit weird at first, but it rubs in nicely with no white cast or greasiness. I cant imagine putting this on a baby though, it would be really hard working the product into a squirmy kids skin! I use this on my neck and chest every morning (but use Shisheido 55 on my face), and it hasnt caused any breakouts or dryness.

Lotions/ Creams -Cake Beauty - It's A Slice Supreme Body Mousse
rated 5 of 5
Lo_li_ta 1/2/2006 2:03:00 PM

MMM I love this stuff. Unlike other reviewers, I dont find the smell cloying or overpowering at all. For a creamsicle scent, I find it somewhat subtle and natural. It has a great consistency, and does a great job of moisturizing my skin, even in the winter time. The packaging is ok, I'm not sure if I have the old or new style, but the bottle is pretty standard and practical. Will definitley buy again, along with the body wash.

Ick, I didnt smell anything but olive oil in this stuff. Also, the product came out in one big squirt, not in a nice mist. Returned it.

Shampoo -TiGi - Catwalk Honey & Oatmeal shampoo
rated 4 of 5
Lo_li_ta 11/28/2005 9:17:00 PM

Mreh, I guess its a pretty good shampoo. Its not terrible, but not something I would call an HG by any means. It smells good, unlike the conditioner which makes me gag.

Conditioner -TiGi - Catwalk Honey & Oatmeal conditioner [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
Lo_li_ta 11/28/2005 9:14:00 PM

The actual moisturizing qualities of this conditioner are pretty good...but... the smell literally makes me gag. This is really odd, since I usually love foody smells, especially baked cinnamony ones. This stuff just is WAY too strong and cloying. Blech.

Makeup Brushes -MAC - #231 Small Shader Brush
rated 5 of 5
Lo_li_ta 7/30/2005 12:05:00 AM

I originally bought this brush to use with my fluidline, as the 266 just wasnt cutting it for me. It works good for that purpose, but I think I prefer angled brushes more, and will probably invest in the 263. That being said however, I find this brush is perfectly suited to my crease! I have almond shaped eyes, that I think are a bit on the small side, and I've ALWAYS had trouble making my crease look defined. I was never able to control any of my other smaller brushes (hmm the 242, the 213? stila #7 amongst them) enough to make my crease shade end nicely on the outside corner of my eye (ok, this is hard to explain..) so generally stuck to medium toned crease colors that were more forgiving. This brush gives me presice enough control to use deep dark smokey colors without looking like I got punched, and gives my eyes much needed definition. I also find this brush is great for adding shadow on my lower lashline - something else I've always had trouble making look good. I am beyond satisfied with this brush, even though I dont use it for my original intentions.
