Mascara -Clinique - Lash Doubling Mascara
rated 2 of 5
LindseyZ 11/27/2010 12:31:00 PM

I received this in a GWP and used it while I was traveling. The effect on my lashes was very subtle. It made them maybe a bit longer and fuller, but there was no "doubling" going on. The real problem is that halfway through the day, this mascara was smudge-city for me. I'm tossing this mascara and won't purchase it in the future. L'Oreal Telescopic is a little cheaper (and sometimes goes on sale) and wears much better for me.

Treatments -Bioelements - Moisture x10
rated 4 of 5
LindseyZ 11/4/2010 1:00:00 AM

This is serum with Hyaluronic Acid that is supposed to boost the efficacy of the moisturizer you apply after it. The consistency is gel-like and it has no scent. I only received a sample, so I can't comment on the packaging. I was able to get about 5 applications from my sample packet and it's really improved the way my skin feels. This might be my first winter in a long time that I don't have to deal with uncomfortable peeling and flaking. It hasn't broken me out, but I can't say weather it will make a long-term difference in the texture and appearance of my skin. I loved the Hyaluronic Acid so much that I didn't want to wait for this serum to ship, so I went out and bought something similar by MyChelle. It has great reviews, but I now wish I'd been willing to wait for this Bioelements product, as the MyChelle serum has an annoying rose scent. Both are priced in the $40 range and I plan to repurchase Moisture x10.

Hair Styling Tools -Unlisted Brand - Hot Tools - Curling Iron Spring Grip
rated 2 of 5
LindseyZ 10/23/2010 8:44:00 PM

This review is for the 1-1/4" Hot Tools Gold curling iron. I have very fine, straight hair that doesn't hold curl well, so I wasn't surprised when this iron didn't perform any better than other tools I've tried. Even with a heat protecting product, the Gold iron burned the heck out of my hair and the curl lasted just a couple hours. The Conair Infiniti Clampless Wand is my HG curling iron; I'll be giving away the Hot Tools one.

Hair Styling Tools -Conair - Infiniti You Curl No Clamp Curling Iron
rated 5 of 5
LindseyZ 10/18/2010 12:36:00 PM

I've had this iron for a few months and it's become my favorite styling tool. I can achieve loose waves or tight curls, depending on how much hair I grab. The waves/curls last all day even if I don't use a hardcore hairspray. My hair is very fine and curls typically don't last with me, so this is a very welcome change. I can only assume the combination of the tourmaline and ceramic and the high heat are what make the difference. It also hasn't fried my hair, but I'm pretty good about using heat protecting products. My only complaint--and this is minor--is that it wish the barrel were a little wider. Other than that, it's easy to use and a good value (especially when you compare it to the price of Enzo Milano clipless irons). I would absolutely repurchase.

Eyeliner -Christian Dior - Crayon Eyeliner in Elegant Taupe (Spring 2009)
rated 4 of 5
LindseyZ 4/27/2010 12:37:00 PM

This product is barely visible on my NW20 skin and that's why I like it. It adds subtle definition to my eyes without looking like I'm wearing a ton of makeup. I especially like it on my lower lashes--it intensifies my lash line, but I don't have to worry about it smudging or looking messy like darker liners. The pencil is fairly soft and has good staying lasting power. I haven't found another shade quite like it, so I would happily repurchase if I lost it.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Mancatcher (Frost) - Lure Collection
rated 5 of 5
LindseyZ 4/27/2010 12:32:00 PM

Mancatcher is the perfect combination of pale pink and purple for my NW20 skin and brown eyes. It brightens my face and opens my eyes; perfect as a light wash of color. This shade is complex enough that it doesn't look childish or unsophisticated. I'd feel comfortable wearing this in a conservative office. This is definitely worth swapping for or searching CCOs for. I hope MAC re-releases it at some point because I would repurchase.

Lipstick -Becca - Sheer Tint Lip Colour
rated 5 of 5
LindseyZ 4/24/2010 9:39:00 PM

This product is second only to Chantecaille Lip Chics in my book. I have Gisella, a peachy nude, that tones down my pink lips without looking like concealer. It feels more like a balm than a lipstick, which is the main reason I love it. Because the color is very subtle on me, I can apply it without a mirror. I also like the shiny silver twist-off tube. It feels substantial, but not clunkly, and the twist top means I don't have to worry about the cover coming off in my purse. One negatives aspect is that there isn't a ton of product in the tube. Also, I've had mine for a year and the scent has already changed. I'm afraid this lipstick goes back more quickly than others, so I don't plan on collecting several at once. That said, I do love it and will repurchase when this one runs out.

Makeup Brushes -Bare Escentuals - Soft Focus Eye Shadow Brush
rated 5 of 5
LindseyZ 4/18/2010 4:27:00 PM

This is my favorite e/s brush because it's so soft. The softness combined with the shape make it perfect for applying shadows in the crease and blending. It even works better than my MAC 217. I haven't experienced any shedding and the brush is still in great condition after several years of use. I would happily repurchase, though I suspect that synthetic brushes from other brands (Urban Decay, Ecotools, Everyday Minerals, etc.) might work just as well.

Mascara -Edward Bess - Mascara
rated 2 of 5
LindseyZ 4/11/2010 3:08:00 PM

This mascara offers very little length or volume and it smudges under my eyes (even though I don't even wear it on my lower lashes). It reminds me of Clinique Glossy mascara, which I like, but retails for only $12. The Edward Bess mascara is sold for $30! I received it as a GWP; I'm so glad I didn't actually pay for it. I will not purchase in the future, as L'Oreal Telescopic (and probably other drugstore mascaras) works much better for me and is cheaper. On the positive side, this product did not flake, clump, or irritate my eyes. I expect a lot more from a high end product like this.

Self Tanners -Bare Escentuals - Faux Tan
rated 4 of 5
LindseyZ 4/10/2010 1:00:00 PM

This is the best self tanner I've ever used. Please note I primarily self tan my legs, not my face. Even though I'm pale all over, my legs have many visible veins and I've found that a tan is the best way to cover them. My strategy with Faux is to shave and exfoliate, moisturize, and then apply the tanner. I've found that applying lotion first prevents streaks. I also wear latex gloves to avoid having to scrub the orange off my palms. Faux gives a natural brown color that lasts 4-5 days on me. I have a giant (16 oz) bottle that will last quite a while, but I will repurchase when I run out.

Bronzers -Becca - Pressed Bronzing Powder - Flamenco
rated 5 of 5
LindseyZ 4/6/2010 12:44:00 PM

I'm on the pale side (NW20) and Flamenco adds just enough color to make me look like I haven't been hibernating all winter. I can't say it really has a "bronzing" effect, but subtlety is what I was hoping for. I reach for this product far more often than any of my other bronzers because I don't have to spend five minutes blending or feel self-conscious about looking unnatural. There is no noticeable shimmer. The product is a generous 10g, so it'll be a while before I run out, but I plan to repurchase when necessary.

Blush -Chantecaille - Laughter
rated 4 of 5
LindseyZ 4/6/2010 12:34:00 PM

I completely agree with the "more pink than peach" description from the review below. Laughter looks fresh and natural on my pale, cool-toned cheeks. It's great for adding a bit of color to brighten my whole face without looking like I'm wearing makeup. The shimmer gives me a pretty sheen--much better than the obnoxious sparkle I get from some Nars or Mac blushes. I love that I can buy Chantecaille blushes in a pot or save $7 by getting them in pan form. Chante palettes are overpriced, but the pans fit in Graftobian and Nixie palettes, too. This blush is also rather expensive, considering you only get 2.5g of product, but I love it and will repurchase.

Foundations -Sally Hansen - Inspired By Carmindy Natural Beauty Your Skin Makeup ] [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
LindseyZ 3/28/2010 7:20:00 PM

This is the best DS foundation I've ever found. Ecru Beige covers all my redness, doesn't clog my pores, and the pump dispenser is very hygenic. The downside is that it feels a bit too heavy in summer weather. I've taken care of this in the past by setting it with silica powder and this summer I'm going to mix it with my moisturizer to create a sheer TM. It's not the only foundation in my m/u kit, but it's one that I keep going back to.

Eyeliner -Clinique - Quickliner for eyes- smoky brown
rated 4 of 5
LindseyZ 3/27/2010 9:56:00 AM

I love this liner, even though I prefer pencils to the twist-up packaging. That's the only thing keeping me from giving this 5 lippies and it's purely a matter of personal preference. Smoky Brown is blendable when I first apply it and then doesn't budge for the rest of the day. This shade of gray/brown subtly accentuates my brown eyes and pale skin; I haven't found an exact dupe anywhere. I will repurchase, unless I ever find a pencil version of this color.

Lip Treatments -Labello - Lip Balm
rated 3 of 5
LindseyZ 3/23/2010 11:35:00 PM

I heard so many great things about this product and wanted to love it. I've used the Star Fruit Labello and the Nivea version in Passion Fruit. They provide a sheer tint of color and smell nice, but didn't really moisturize my lips. I will be sticking with Nivea Kiss of Moisture in the dark blue tube and rely on lipstick for color.
