Mascara -L'Oreal - Extra volume - collagene

I saw the ads on television and wanted to try this mascara, I love hearing about new mascaras but don't buy them all to try as I don't believe a lot of mascara ads! I was tempted by the extra big brush on this one though as I love big brushes, my old favourite mascara ever was Rimmel Exaggerate when it was in the black tube with full brush - before they changed packaging and I believe, also formula. I was gutted when they changed that one!

Anyway, onto my review of this product - I LOVE the brush. Granted, because its so full it can be easy to accidntally smudge it onto your lashline - but I disagree with the previous review that you can't get to the lash line... I think the bigger brushes really help to open the eyes when they are pushed into the lashline, but the disadvangtage is that yes, you may have to do some cleaning up afterwards which is a pain if you've applied your eyeshadow!
The black shade which I bought is a deep glossy black - really adds definition. The formula does have that heavy mascara smell though which I dislike. After applying a couple of brushes in quick sucession to each eye, I really loved the overall look. Fairly dramatic definition which opened my eyes and lashes were separated, but not too OTT for daywear. I already have very long lashes and just like to give them a bit of extra length, colour and volume. So it may be that the big brushes are better for those with long lashes - I can't comment on how they'd work with short lashes.

The main negative with this one is that, like the previous reviewer said, it is quite a wet formula. It takes a little while to dry and still tends to stay 'damp' - if you touch your eyelashes later on in the day it can make them stick together.... this is a big negative for me. I like drier formulas that dry completely and you can forget about messing it up for the rest of the day.

On balance, I love the effect of this mascara - but with the smell and wetness for £9.99, I may be returning to my current faithful Max Factor Masterpiece when I've used up this tube.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Glamoursun Lipglass

I love this shade, it's a new staple shade for me, pity it's LE. On my lips, its kind of like a 'reverse' Enchantress. They have the same luminous quality - no apparant shimmer in the way of sparkles, but iridescent pearly shine. This is a pinker version of Enchantress, with a bit of peach. Enchantress has more peach, with a bit pink. I love both of them on me, but if I had to choose one, Enchantress is probably going to be more flattering on me year round as its a bit warmer. I'm going to stock up a few!

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous Lipgloss - Nude Lustre
rated 3 of 5
Lilac_Sparkles 3/7/2006 10:35:00 AM

I'm on the fence with these Super Lustrous Lipglosses... I have Nude Lustre, Pink Afterglow and Glossy Rose. Of the three Glossy Rose is my favourite.

I usually prefer stickier lipglosses, such as MAC lipglass, for their lasting power and simply because I like the feeling of it on my lips. These are a lot thinner and slicker, but not *too* thin. I'm not sure about the fragrance. Usually I like foody scented lip products but these have something about them, can't put my finger on it, but I just don't think they smell all that great.

Nude Lustre shows up as a very warm toned nude on me. When I say nude, I don't mean a lighter nude that mutes your lips, but a naked 'lips but better' type nude. HOWEVER, that being said - this is not MY lips but better! Its much too peachy, and I have rosier lips. For ladies with rosier lips I think Glossy Rose is a much better choice. Its one of the best shades I've found for this type of look, and I have been unable to find a shade like it in MAC. I wouldn't buy this shade again, but it may work for a lot of ladies.

I usually prefer stickier lipglosses, such as MAC lipglass, for their lasting power and simply because I like the feeling of it on my lips. Glossy Rose is a shade I find myself reaching for a lot lately. Its a pretty shimmery medium rose shade - and gives me a perfect 'my lips but better' look. I don't detect all that much gold in the shimmer, as some reviewers have stated, but it does have a warm cast. I guess this has become a bit of a staple for me because its such a fail safe, goes-with-anything shade on me, and I haven't been able to find a similar shade to this from MAC. Many 'lip but better- type shades are too brown toned for me, but this is a nice alternative for us rosy lipped girls! I would buy again, for shade alone.

Pink Afterglow shows up pretty much clear on me, but maybe tweaks my fairly pigmented lips to a lighter pink shade because the silver sparkles are so abundant. Its not kiddy glitter, its pretty sparkles... not shimmers as the particles are definitely bigger than shimmer. If I rub my lips together I can feel them. All in all, a slight disappointment as I was hoping for something that would show up noticeably pink, but it does give a pretty effect.

Eyeliner -MAC - Shimmerline
rated 5 of 5
Lilac_Sparkles 3/23/2005 11:17:00 AM

I got when it first came out and never reviewed it. The day I got it I tested it and remember being more pleased with Sunbrown glitter liner. I thought that this one was boring, and not light reflective enough. The lighting I was using must have been bad as I've just pulled this out, tested it, and WOW! I am in love with this! This is fab!

Unlike many glitter liners, and namely many of MAC's other shades, this isn't a clear gel with glitter suspended in it. This one is actually a shimmery royal purple base. So its dark enough to wear on its own and doesn't need a base to make it smooth looking. It looks amazing on its own. The glitter isn't as light reflective as Sunbrown, or Pink Wink, but it looks very sophisticated. I will be wearing this a lot from not on! I also tested it over a black liner and it looks gorgeous that way too.

As for the formula, same as other glitter liners. It feels weird going on, really tightens and you can feel it every time you blink, but after a minute or two, this lessens. I can still feel it there, but its not uncomfortable, you get used to it. I've had a problem with Sunbrown where this seperates and flakes from my eye, I'll update if this does the same.

Lip Gloss -Neutrogena - MoistureShine Lipgloss in First Blush [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
Lilac_Sparkles 3/19/2004 11:03:00 AM

I received this as a generous extra from a fab swapper! This is my first Neutrogena Moisture Shine, I'm not sure that they sell them in the UK? I'll have to find out.

This colour is spectacular! Its the most gorgeous natural pink, yet still bright and looks like you have something on. Many lips but better pinks just look like clear gloss when you put them on but this has a lot of pigment. I've been searching for this colour for long time now in other brands but I've never found it. I've rated the product an overall 4, but the shade is a 5!

As for the formula, its not bad. It does feel smooth and moisturising, but I am used to, and prefer a thicker stickier gloss which lasts longer. The smell isn't offensive, but there is something I don't like about it. I love my glosses to smell delicious!

I would be very interested to try this again in different shades, and if I can't find a similar shade to this in a brand which has a formula I like better, I'd get this one again. If anyone knows of a pretty much identical colour in another brand please let me know!

Palettes -Hard Candy - Palm Palette in Girlie
rated 4 of 5
Lilac_Sparkles 1/29/2004 12:50:00 PM

I bought this palette brand new on ebay, so I didn't pay full price. I love the design of the packaging, so practical! It could be slimmer... its not exactly chunky but not really as streamlined as I'd like. The multiple compartments are great and although the brushes aren't the best quality (I haven't used them, I can just tell), they'd be handy for emergency touchups. Onto the actual products... I love the cream blush! Its silky and blends easily. I only need a tiny dab (NC20) to get a nice flush as its pretty pigmented. I actually don't see much coral in it, on my skin its a rosy flush. The eyeshadows are both neutral, a peach with tiny sparkles (not really shimmery) and a shimmery dark taupe brown. As the eye look is pretty understated I would have expected the lips to be a little brighter, a nice rosy shade might have been nice. The lips are awful on me to be honest. One is a pale frosty champagne and one is a frosty medium taupe. Yuck, they wash me out no end. However... the box recommends the blush be used on the lips for an evening look... problem solved! This looks gorgeous on me, a natural MLBB rose. A dab of the champagne in the middle of the lips and I'm good to go. The taupe is pretty unusable for me, but I might scoop it out and fill it with another lipstick. Another idea I've had is to put a GWP mini lip pencil (eg. Lancome makes pretty tiny ones!) in compartment with the brushes.

Lipstick -MAC - Mac for Playboy Bunny Pink
rated 3 of 5
Lilac_Sparkles 1/21/2004 1:27:00 PM

I second what dolcevita said... its very blue/purple toned, a lilac pink - Very cool, very 80's. Although some reviews state it to be shimmery, and sheer, this is definitely not the case on me. The texture is ok, but not as nice as the other Lustres I have. That might be down to the shimmer coating. Its pretty creamy and full coverage in comparision which other lustres. I find this dissapointing as it makes the paleness of it less forgiving. Also, the shimmer coating is exactly that, a very thin coating, it doesn't add shimmer to the look.

I can generally wear cool colours well but this is a little *too* cool. Its wearable though, as a nude pink lip. I still may buy a second one just to keep nice, to look at! I'm a sucker for packaging! Overall, I'm a little disappointed. With all the raves I was expecting a gorgeous perfect pink, and would have preferred a warmer toned one, with gold shimmer like the shimmer creme has. Oh well, its so cute!

Eye Shadow -NYX - Jazzy Bronze
rated 5 of 5
Lilac_Sparkles 1/7/2004 9:20:00 AM

I had heard about NYX from raves on the makeup board and looked at the products on a website. I was really pleased to accidently discover we have access to the brand over here in the UK!

I have Jazzy Bronze as part of a trio (#27), along with Platinum Pink and Salmon. Groovynub gave a perfect colour description so I won't try and tweak it. Its a gorgeous and pretty unique shade that really complements the other two shades in the trio.

I can't comment on the price of the singles, or the packaging as I only have this in a trio. However the trio was very fairly priced at £4.99 from a department store, which converts to around $9 US as I write this. Thats around an average price for drugstore trios over here, and these have the added benefit of being great quality. The trios come in fantastic packaging - a sleek black compact with a decent mirror and 'window' to see the shades. I imagine the singles packaging would be decent also. The eyeshadows are soft and smooth, and last all day. I will definitely be buying more!

I have Salmon as part of a trio (#27), along with Platinum Pink and Jazzy Bronze. Salmon is a shimmery warm peachy copper. I agree with groovynub that theres nothing 'salmon' about it! Salmon to me is a peachy warm pink, and I don't see any pink tones at all in this. Its a lovely shade, if not a touch too warm for my skintone alone, but it complements the other two shades in the trio nicely.

I had heard about NYX from raves on the makeup board and looked at the products on a website. I was really pleased to accidently discover we have access to the brand over here in the UK!

I have Platinum Pink in a trio (#27), along with Salmon and Jazzy Bronze. Platinum Pink is a very pale shimmery silvery pink. It doesn't have a very opaque coverage so I use it as a highlighting shade. Its a pretty generic shade which can be found in most lines but the quality is nice and it complements the other two shades in the trio.

I had heard about NYX from raves on the makeup board and looked at the products on a website. I was really pleased to accidently discover we have access to the brand over here in the UK! My mother brought home a three colour palette, with this shade in it.

The trio is #22, with Sahara, Suede and Chocolate. Sahara is a lightly frosted golden beige, and pairs really well with the other two in the trio for a nice polished neutral look.

Eye Shadow -NYX - 3 Color Eyeshadow

I had heard about NYX from raves on the makeup board and looked at the products on a website. I was really pleased to accidently discover we have access to the brand over here in the UK! My mother brought home a three colour palette and was raving about these 'lovely soft eyeshadows' she'd found.

The trio my mother brought home was #22, with Sahara, Suede and Chocolate. These three are very neural. Sahara is a lightly frosted golden beige, Suede is a slightly warm medium brown and Chocolate is a deep chocolate brown. Both Suede and Chocolate are satin shades, not entirely matte but not shimmery.

I also have trio #27 which includes Platinum Pink, Salmon and Jazzy Bronze. This is my favourite of the two, and all of the shades are shimmery. Platinum Pink is a very pale silvery pink, Salmon is a peachy copper and Jazzy Bronze is a bronzed plum, with empathis on the plum.

These aren't quite as cheap over here, being £4.99 from a department store, which converts to around $9 US as I write this. Still, thats around an average price for drugstore trios over here, and these have the added benefit of being great quality and gorgeous convenient packaging! They are soft and smooth, and last all day. I will definitely be buying more!

Eye Shadow -Kesalan Patharan - Face Color Trio P1
rated 4 of 5
Lilac_Sparkles 9/27/2003 8:20:00 AM

This is a very unique trio! Not for the timid! The shades are all matte and include a bright pink, white and almost neon lime! I had this trio on my wishlist (because it looked so fun!) and arranged a custom purchase for it, but when it arrived I was left thinking 'What on earth can I do with this?!' The colours just looked so unflattering for me. I left it untouched for a week or two before I got around to playing with it. WOW! I love this! Admittedly I have only worn it one way, and can't imagine any other ways for me to wear it, but it looked so cool. I wore the matte white all over from lid to brow, with more in the inner corner. I then used the pink in the crease and just a little above the crease. I needed to keep this one away from the lid otherwise it would have given me rabbit eyes. I then used a small swipe of the lime on the outer half of the lid, along the lashline. I don't blend the lime as it looks mucky if I do, and I only use a small amount. The shadows are soft and smooth, and while I won't get enough use out of this one (definitely not an everyday eye, although I did wear it to college!) to buy it again, and even if I wanted to I couldn't as it was LE, I will definitely be picking up more KP trios!
