Treatments -Shea Moisture - Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque

I'm a fan! It keeps my dry, fine, curly hair nicely moisturized. I shampoo once with One 'n Only Argan, rinse, and squeeze out the water, then apply this product, avoiding the scalp. I leave it in and style with some gel. My hair is soft and shiny with well-defined curls and no split ends. I've been told my hair smells nice, though I don't notice it myself.

Love it! It is great for my wavy/curly hair. I massage it well into my scalp and after rinsing, apply Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque, which I leave in. My hair is soft and shiny with well-defined curls (held in place with a bit of gel), and I never get split ends.

Liquid -Rimmel - Match Perfection
rated 5 of 5
LauraAronson 12/12/2012 11:40:00 AM

Love it so far, at least for wearing in the cold weather. Summer use is TBD... It has SPF16 (a MUST in my opinion), covers well, gives a very natural finish, and lasts all day, even through a workout. While a pump would be nice, to apply it I wash my hands, I dip in a clean Q-tip, dot it on the skin, and spread with a finger. At half the price of of Revlon and other drugstore brands, it is a great value. I have combination skin and use moisturizer on the drier parts during the cold weather. My color is medium with some reddish patches and light brown spots.

Polishes -Sinful - Easy Going

Gloppy, streaky, smeary. I tried it once, removed it, and tossed it in the trash. It does set off a tan, but looks kinda weird.

I LOVE these nail polishes. I have purchased different colors and they apply easily and wear well (with a top coat of Seche Vite). I buy them at Sally Beauty Supply.

Concealers -Laura Mercier - Secret Concealer
rated 4 of 5

I use it all over the under-eye area. With my hereditary dark circles, I first use a green cover stick on the darkest part. It lasts well and does not accentuate fine lines. I would rate it a 5, but it is quite expensive. I don't mind the finger application because I always wash well before putting on makeup. I may try a drug store brand next time I run out to see if it works just as well.

Eye Shadow -New York Color - Individual Eyes 938U Union Square
rated 5 of 5
LauraAronson 9/9/2012 12:08:00 AM

Use it love it, on my third purchase. I go through the two lighter colors fastest and have leftover dark when I'm done, but it's still a great value. The primer works well, the white highlighter is good for dark area above the tear ducts.I buy the kit for green eyes although my eyes are brownish-hazel, because the colors for green eyes are softer.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - California Mango- Mango Mend Skin, Cuticle & Nail Balm
rated 5 of 5
LauraAronson 9/7/2012 11:52:00 AM

I'm a convert! Used in very tiny amounts, and thoroughly massaged into my cuticles, fingers, and elbows, this is very nice. I am using it while I work (mostly on the computer) and at bedtime. The ingredients are all natural and it smells sweet. It will last a long time, so I think the price is fine.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorstay Overtime Lipcolor
rated 5 of 5
LauraAronson 9/3/2012 10:09:00 PM

I love that the color lasts all day. I apply it when I put on the rest of my makeup, after the base and before the eyes. You have to apply enough of it all over and keep your lips open until it dries and sets. Then use makeup remover to take it off at night. If you have dry lips, you need to address that problem first, as this product is almost pure pigment. I always use clear lip balm at bedtime to keep my lips moist. (It helps that my t-zone is fairly oily.) To add some shine, I either use the gloss that comes with the stick - or Burts Bees tinted lip balm - or sometimes lipstick - and reapply as needed. Even if I forget to reapply the gloss or balm, I still have the tint on my lips. In the summer when I'm tan, I use Stay Currant, and the rest of the time I use Endless Spice. My skin has a golden undertone.

I just applied it again to my toenails and fingernails. It looks great against a tan. Two coats do the trick. It wears pretty well.

Treatments -Boots - No 7 Protect and Perfect Intense
rated 2 of 5
LauraAronson 8/9/2012 12:02:00 PM

The "intense" version is the serum combined with a moisturizer and I did not like it. Good Housekeeping tested the REGULAR serum, and I used it with good results for several years. Note that in the Good Housekeeping test, this tied with Olay Regenerist serum, which I also used and liked. I now use Neutrogena's retinol serum for combination skin. It is a better value for my money.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - rogaine for men foam
rated 5 of 5
LauraAronson 8/9/2012 11:29:00 AM

I use Walmart's Equate Hair Regrowth Treatment liquid, which is their Rogaine equivalent. The big drug store chains also sell their generics. After years of thin hair, it has regrown and I am very happy. My stylist can see the difference, too. As the label says, allow 3 months for results. That was accurate. After 6 months, my hair looks wonderful. I started on 2%, but my dermatologist said to switch to 5% because I am post-menopausal. Consult your doctor before using the 5% if you are menstruating. I like the liquid formulation with the dropper. The trick is to lift my hair and apply it just to the scalp and roots, then wait a few seconds until it dries. It is alcohol-based so it dries fast. You need to wait four hours before shampooing, to give it a chance to work.

Scrubs -Dermalogica - Daily Microfoliant
rated 5 of 5
LauraAronson 8/9/2012 11:18:00 AM

I have combination skin with a very oily T-zone. When I started this product, I had a lot of milia, keratin filled cysts that only a pro can remove. With this product, I don't develop milia or breakouts. Hurray! And, I only use it about twice a week in the morning, which is doing the trick. There is no irritation. I estimate it will last 6 months. It is pricey but will save money because I won't need salon facials.

Treatments -Neutrogena - Ageless Intensives Deep Wrinkle Serum
rated 4 of 5
LauraAronson 8/9/2012 11:02:00 AM

I switched to Neutrogena in June from another retinol serum, and so far I am pleased with it. My dermatologist recommends using retinol at night (increases sun sensitivity). Having used retinol serums for a long time, I am much less wrinkled than many of my peers and get compliments on my appearance. I have also used and liked Boots 7 regular (not intense) serum and Olay Regenerist serum, which both came out tops in the Good Housekeeping tests. The Neutrogena offers better value. If I still like it this winter, I'll stay with it long-term. Learn from this 61-year old with great skin: Use sun screen, don't burn, eat a healthy diet, get enough sleep, and exercise. Meditate; it will lower your stress level. Avoid toxic people. Practice compassion. Cultivate happiness. If you live well, your skin care products have a chance to work. And you will be happy!
