Lipstick -Clinique - Chubby Stick (all shades)
Lanessa 12/28/2012 5:42:00 PM
I have to start with saying that I am not a lipstick wearer. I find lipstick to look unnatural on my face, plus my excessively oily skin makes products not last long, and I hate the drying effect of lipstick. But I love the look right now of a stronger lip, so with the advice of a make-up artist, I bought this product. The colour is sheer but gives just a beautiful hit of colour for those of us preferring a more natural look. Very similar to a lip balm, I love the #12 Oversized Orange and #04 Mega Melon. Needs to be re-applied but will not dry out your lips and looks natural. This product will forever be in my make-up bag to add a bit of colour to my lips.

Mascara -Maybelline - Lash Stiletto Voluptuous Waterproof
Lanessa 12/28/2012 5:36:00 PM
My favorite mascara. Doesn't clump, doesn't flake in cold weather (an absolute must for us Canadian girls!). Definitely waterproof, removable only with eye make-up remover. As a contact lens wearer, it doesn't irritate my eyes, makes my lashes look both fuller and longer. I used to be a big fan of Max Factor but it's unavailable in Canada, and this product is an excellent stand-in. As an athlete I appreciate the staying power when I'm on the court, and it looks natural while giving nice length and definition.

Blush -Smashbox - Blush Rush - Radiance
Lanessa 12/28/2012 5:28:00 PM
Colour is shocking but looks amazing on! I bought this during a recent trip to Vegas, and have heard from a number of makeup artists why smashbox is so good. The products are designed to be used for photography, so when a flash is used, the product on film will look just as it appears in the mirror. This is so important for wedding photography or other professional shoots to avoid the light reflecting off and appearing lighter in the picture (think pictures of body builders who seem to have a tan body and white face. They don't, it's just the flash photography catching the particles of pigment in the makeup and throwing it back). Any professional photographer knows these principles and a good make-up artist will keep this in mind for photography. Back to the product itself. I was on a 5 year search for a blush that would give a natural, fresh look without being orangey. The artist I spoke to recommended this product which seemed WAY too bright, but it applies so beautifully and looks completely natural when on. I won't buy any other kind of blush knowing what I do about the way it shows in photographs and looks in person. An absolute must buy :)

Self Tanners -St.Tropez - Bronzing Mousse
Lanessa 12/28/2012 5:19:00 PM
Absolute must! Use with disposable gloves (I use medical exam gloves from work) or it will stain your hands and nail beds. Colour looks very dark, but easy to see where you've applied it. Ensure you have access to a full length mirror, you want to be careful of any dark spots. To remedy these, I just wet my hand slightly and rub in water until dark streak is gone. Wait roughly 30 minutes before dressing, but I would recommend using before bed. Colour will transfer to your sheets but washes out (I have 900 thread count ivory sheets that came clean easily). Shower again in the morning, the water will be brownish, but, when you are done, you will have the most natural tan look achievable. Looks exactly like a Mediterranean tan. One caveat, it seems to make me a little energetic, perhaps there is an ingredient that does this, so I don't get the best sleep when I use it. Scent isn't too bad, it is a self-tanner so that is unavoidable but once you shower again in the morning, you will not notice after you apply your moisturizer. Well worth the price, I have not had a single person ask where I tan, instead it's comments on where did I go for vacation!

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara
Lanessa 12/28/2012 5:08:00 PM
Not a good product for Canadian girls or people who go into the cold! Flakes very easily in cold weather, you will be wearing a good amount of it all over your face within a few moments of hitting the cold air. Flakes then will smear on your face. A good amount of product will end in the corners of your eyes as well. Definitely pass on this if you are in the cold at all, maybe it works in warmer climates but it's a pass in my books.

Eyeliner -Revlon - ColorStay Liquid Liner
Lanessa 12/28/2012 5:04:00 PM
A must have for your everyday look. Easy to use brush, product has excellent staying power, especially considering I have the oiliest skin. I like applying it on upper lash line, a little strong for the lower line in my opinion. I use the Kevin Aucoin technique of lifting the upper lashes and applying on the skin very close to the eye. I wear contacts and if product gets in my eye it doesn't get irritated and wipes away very easily.

Mascara -Lancome - Definicils Mascara
Lanessa 1/16/2008 10:35:00 PM
Totally agree with Marie06 review on this one! Looks great the first few times you wear it, then product dries out beyond quick. GWP trial size actually lasted longer than full size product due to drying out. Formula is great, but cannot afford to replace my mascara every month or less at that price. Don't tempt yourself to get a bigger size than trial as it will dry out on you.

Mascara -Maybelline - Lash Discovery Mascara
Lanessa 1/16/2008 10:30:00 PM
This product wasn't available for a while in Canada so I was really happy to see it on the shelves again. Super disappointed! I bought the Waterproof hoping it would stay, but find it ends up all over my lower lid within hours. Worst mascara for flaking all over the place. The brush is great for getting to the littlest lashes, but product is terrible. Don't waste your money.

Treatments -Avene - Cleanance K
Lanessa 12/15/2007 10:57:00 PM
Very nice moisturizer. My favorite of the Avene line of products. The AHA/BHA combo is effective, does leave skin tingly at times, almost like lemon juice in a cut. It does leave a kind of film that you will notice if you use in the morning before make-up application. Recommend as a night-time moisturizer that's not too heavy for very oily skin types.

Misc Beauty Tools -Clean & Clear - Oil Absorbing Sheets

My skin is crazy oily (shiny 1 min after washing). These are great to use throughout the work day to keep down the shine. Keep them stashed in my purse and desk at work.

Fragrances -Clean - Warm Cotton

Fantastic scent. I've been looking high and low for something that smells like clean laundry. This does the trick. It smells very similar to Downy, I've had an immense amount of compliments on it. Another reviewer referred to the lemony scent that wears off, and it's definitely true, I didn't like the scent at first but within 20 minutes it smells great. Will certainly purchase when I run out.

Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Beeswax Lip Balm
Lanessa 11/25/2007 6:41:00 PM
I've been using this religiously since a friend let me use hers (7 years ago). I previously used BonneBell's Lip Smackers, and found I had to keep re-applying as it wore off quite quickly. I find this product relieves my dry lips perfectly. I love the slightly minty taste to it, and the fact it is not medicated, so no worries about getting "dependant" on it. It doesn't require as frequent applications as other lip balms. I like the minimal packaging as well. I will probably never buy any other kind of dry lip product since using this. It's great!
