Blush -NYX - Dusty Rose
rated 5 of 5
LSUGirl 2/21/2013 12:43:00 PM

I absolutely LOVE NYX blush. My favorite one is the Dusty Rose, so far, hands down! My NW 22 (in the winter) colored skin with brown hair and brown eyes. This blush is sheer, natural and buildable! It is matte also, but not TOO MATTE where it will make my 40 year old face look drab, it looks fabulous. I love that it has a natural flush look to my face when I use this color. But, I am one of those that firmly believe you MUST find your right toned blush to go w/ your coloring (warm vs. cool vs. neutral skin toned, etc). I've tried MAC, Lancome, Clinque, Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown, Cover Girl, Maybelline, etc and NYX is my favorite blush hands down and I'm a makeup junkie and research lots before I purchase anything. !!! This color and brand got RAVE reviews from Paula Begoun's website and book "Don't go to the Makeup Counter without me". LOVE, LOVE this blush! Oh and I have oily skin and this stays on my face longer than my MAC blush too.

Blush -NYX - Bourgeois Pig
rated 4 of 5
LSUGirl 2/21/2013 12:36:00 PM

I absolutely LOVE NYX blush. My favorite one is the Dusty Rose shade but I thought this Bourgeois Pig color looked pretty in the package and was looking for a "pink" for the coming Spring for a springy cheerful look. Even though this was a pretty color and would probably look great on some the color didn't look good on my NW 22 (in the winter) colored skin. I have brown hair, brown eyes and pink toned blushes usually look fine on me but this one didn't look good. Don' t let this persuade you NOT to try NYX blushes though because they are FABULOUS!!!! I've tried MAC, Lancome, Clinque, Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown, Cover Girl, Maybelline, etc and NYX is my favorite blush hands down and I'm a makeup junkie and research lots before I purchase anything. !!!

Foundations -Tarte - Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full-Coverage Foundation SPF 15
rated 4 of 5
LSUGirl 5/7/2012 12:53:00 PM

I have very oily, sensitive skin w/ large visable pores....I find that after I use my Mary Kay moisturizer and then my Benefit Poreprofessional primer, this goes on smooth and looks great. I have tried SO many foundations over the years so far so good with this one but I will update soon. I copied and pasted the following review from Paula Begoun's website, Beautypedia because I thought it would be helpful to some. Review: This fragrance-free foundation promises full coverage, sun protection, and a weightless texture—and it essentially delivers on all three. Dispensed from its squeeze tube, this has an initially thick, almost toothpaste-like texture that belies how silky and light it feels as it’s blended. It melds convincingly with skin, providing medium to full coverage and a soft-focus, powdery finish best for normal to oily skin. This foundation’s finish is the kind that will magnify the slightest hint of dry skin, so be sure skin is sufficiently prepped before applying. Also, take care to apply this lightly around the eyes if you have wrinkles, because this foundation, like many others, will magnify these signs of aging. Sun protection is provided by gentle mineral actives titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, making this a good choice for sensitive skin, too. As for the cons, this has a tendency to ball up slightly as you blend. It’s not a deal-breaker because this effect goes away with further blending—but consider whether you want to take as much time to blend as this foundation demands. Also consider whether you really need this much coverage. Flaws are hidden but no question this looks like makeup, not natural skin. In terms of longevity, this goes the distance—maybe not for 12 hours as claimed but most with oily skin will find this delivers several hours of wear without breaking up, fading, or looking spotty. The shades present some beautiful, soft colors for fair to medium skin tones. The best among them are Fair, Ivory (both excellent for very light skin tones), Light, Tan, and Tan Deep. Light Medium is slightly peach while Medium has a yellow tinge that requires careful inspection in daylight to ensure it matches well. The darkest shade (Deep) is slightly orange but workable. Ingredients: Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Octyldodecyl Neopentanoate Butylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Mica, Dimethicone, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Stearic Acid, Aluminum Hydroxide, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Caprylyl Glycol, Phytantriol, Hexyl Laurate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Sodium Chloride, Hexylene Glycol, Lysine, Tocopherol, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Nylon-12 Fluorescent Brightener 230 Salt, Polyvinyl Alcohol Crosspolymer, Kaolin, Magnesium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Zinc Chloride, Sodium Hyaluronate, Potassium Sorbate, Iron Oxides. Last Updated: 1/31/2012 OK I AM UPDATING TODAY, Sept 1st, 2012 - READ BELOW !!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this foundation! I purchased it from QVC instead of Sephora or Ulta because the Tarte foundation brush came w/ it for FREE. I think it was $ 43 total (that included the shipping AND the free fancy awesome brush to apply this foundation with). Using this brush gave an 'airbrushed effect' and worked easy and quick. After trying several color samples from Sephora, I settled with the medium. It worked perfect! Also, after trying a sample of the Tarte smooth operator loose (white, clear) powder for a week, I decided to purchase it from Sephora. The foundation paired w/ that finishing loosed powder looks fabulous and not 'made up looking'. I have recommended this foundation to several friends BUT you must be looking for the following in order to love it: this works great for sensitive skin because it has ALL NATURAL ingredients in it. - even though it is in a tube and comes out in a mousse type consistancy, it is very easy to apply. I put several dots on on my face and buff them in with the tarte airbrush brush and it looks great. But work with one area at a time....put the dots on your forehead, then quickly buff your forehead and finish that before moving on to the other areas. - it provides a natural, non thick make-up look that my dear hubby doesn't like, lol. He loves a natural look without appearing to have thick 80's make-up on. - I have very oily skin w/ visable pores. This foundation stays on my face for 10-12 hours without 'sliding off'. I do reapply powder midway through the day. I do use my Benefit poreprofessional underneath this foundation so that my visable pores will be invisable, lol. I don't like pores, yucky! - If you are the type that loves a thick makeup that feels thick and looks very made up (that Barbie made up look) - you will not like this. - This foundation feels breatheable, feels natural and looks natural and has medium coverage. If you're a 'full coverage' kind of gal, you will not want this foundation. - Again, I fully recommend this for my kind of skin stated above! I love, love, love it and have used it for 4 months and it has never broke me out or caused any type of skin reaction !

Skincare - Face -Stridex - Triple Action Pads, Alcohol Free
rated 5 of 5
LSUGirl 4/10/2012 10:54:00 PM

I love, love, love these Stridex pads (in the red jar)....the maximum strength ones. I'm 39 years old and have oily, sensitive skin. I don't have bad acne and haven't since my early 20's but seems to always have these small bumps that are always an underlying issue. They aren't pimples, etc....they actually just make my skin appear rough so it's not really 'bumps' just rough looking skin. I've used these pads for only 3 days for the benefit of younger looking, smoother skin. I began using AHA Neostrata oil free gel about 2 weeks ago and have seen a signifiance difference but tons of blogs suggested using BHA for my type of skin and suggested these exact pads instead of PC's toner....saying these pads produced better results. I will repost in 6 weeks and let you know what is going on. I read on most blogs for girls with sensitive skin to apply oil free moisturizer over my face directly after I use a pad. So I'm using Pro Activ oil free moisturizer on my face directly after using these Stridex pads.

Moisturizers -Pro Activ - Pro Activ Spf 15 oil free moisturizer
rated 4 of 5
LSUGirl 4/7/2012 7:38:00 AM

I have been using this moisturizer every morning/night for 2 months. It is lightweight, non-greasy, unscented, and a little goes a long way. I have VERY oily/acne prone skin and I find that this moisturizes while not making me greasy. It is pretty expensive--it's cheaper if you buy it on ebay (got mine for $ 23 ( but make sure you get a fresh product, ask the seller before you purchase to tell you the expiration date on your product). A good drugstore dupe is the olay sensitive skin spf 15 moisturizer, but I find that one to be slightly greasier than this (although much cheaper). While 99% of my acne is long gone, I still enjoy this product. For acne prone and oily skin, this provides the perfect amount of moisture and SPF without actually.making you oily or causing breakouts. Sure, there is probably better stuff out there. Combined with the fact you can find that along with light weight moisture for combos and acnes proners is a rarity, most companies use Avobenzone and Oxybenzone. Plus no white cast with the natural titanium dioxide. It dries into a matte finish and absorbs well and I find that my foundation goes on easier using this.

Liquid -Estee Lauder - Double Wear (old formula)
rated 4 of 5
LSUGirl 4/6/2012 6:47:00 PM

This makeup has FABULOUS staying power, like none I've ever experienced. Last week I put it on at 8 am and my family went boating, fishing, playing in the water for 4 hours in the hot Louisiana sun and at 7 pm ( 11 hours later) it was ALL still there, IN PLACE, no 'sliding off my face' or melting, etc....so the staying power is unbelievable. The color matched perfect too. I always wear a good primer underneath my foundation and a good loose finishing powder on top of my foundation so I did those 2 steps while testing this foundation for the past 2 weeks. Here's why I won't purchase this. I have oily, sensitive skin with large pores. This foundation is fabulous for oily skin. It gave me a matte finish almost so matte that it was a 'flat look'. But I can still deal with that BUT because of my pore size it literally 'sat in' my pores and made them 'appear larger'. Even with a great matte finish on my usually oily skin, it didn't have a good look on MY skin because it made my pores look worse. But, I went to my hairdresser last week and we were discussing makeup and foundation and she is 42 yrs old and has beautiful, flawless skin ( a genetic thing for her) and I told her that he face looked fabulous and natural, etc and I asked her what she was wearing.....drum roll please....EL Double Wear...the same exact foundation that I had on and it looked nothing like that on me. So for those of you with normal to small pores and oily to combination skin this could be your HG foundation. My hairdresser has very small pores and normal/combination skin and it looked fabulous on her. She said she had been wearing it for about 6 weeks and had switched from Mary Kay to this EL DW and she preferred it over her former Mary Kay one. I guess I'm still on the hunt for my HG.

Liquid -Estee Lauder - Double Wear Light SPF10
rated 3 of 5
LSUGirl 4/6/2012 6:32:00 PM

I bought EL DW Light about 6 weeks ago in search for my HG foundation, well, this was NOT it. ;(. The color was a perfect match but it wasn't the finish I was looking for. I have oily skin with large pores. This foundation provided a 'dewy finish' and having oily skin that's not what I was in search for. This is more like a tinted moisturizer, imo....maybe a little thicker but not much. I even tried using my favorite primer underneath and a loose powder on top to give me a more 'finished look' but I still didn't achieve what I was searching for. For you ladies with dry or combination skin and looking for a natural, sheer, dewy finish this may be what you're looking for.

Liquid -Mary Kay - Time Wise Matte Wear Liquid Foundation
rated 5 of 5
LSUGirl 3/24/2012 10:43:00 PM

I purchased Beige 3 (I am NC 25ish). Those shades are considered shades for people with pink undertones, yet don't look pink on the skin. I would consider Beige 3 as more of a 'neutral tone with a pink undertone but not a screaming pink....more of a flesh tone. Beige 3 is nice; it doesn't turn my skin pinker or look pink, yet it isn't yellow on my skin. I really like this foundation. It is medium to full coverage...yet buildable so you can make this medium OR full. I would recommend using an oil-free moisturizer w/ this since it is matte. Also, I use primer after my oil free moisturizer. It looks fabulous when I use my foundation brush. I think you should try this with concealer AND WITHOUT concealer. I prefer it on me WITHOUT concealer since it is a matte finish. Also, I use a transc.light finishing powder INSTEAD of a heavy/matte type finishing powder because that would be TOO HEAVY....imo. I am very oily especially in my t-zone but this holds me about 8 hrs WITHOUT even blotting and that's like lifesaving for my oily skin. It has a natural look too, it's not too heavy or powdery but I do believe that's all in the application of THIS makeup. Highly recommend. I've been wearing EL Double Wear and to me the EL is too heavy, too powdery and too matte finish, this Mary Kay is more 'breathable' more natural and not too makeup 'clay face' looking.

Crème -Exuviance - Skin Caring Foundation
rated 5 of 5
LSUGirl 3/17/2012 7:57:00 PM

We live in South Louisiana so it's very humid and hot here from March - Oct of each year. I have been searching for a medium, buildable coverage foundation that is still 'breathable' but doesn't make me look like a 'clay face'. I'm 39 yrs old and have always taken care of my skin (using SPF, etc.) but I have oily, acne-prone, sensitive skin so finding my HG foundation is a feat. I go to a dermatologist regularly and use Retin-A (mixed with moisturizer) 3 nights per week and use a AHA night cream on the other nights. I have tried MUFE mattifying foundation, Estee Lauder Double Wear, MAC, Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation, etc. and none of them were exactly what I was looking for. In the past, I have had trouble with getting oily w/in 2 hours of applying my foundation and the make up 'sliding off' my face and seeing my pores through every single foundation that I have tried. I love, love, love this foundation. I've only used it for the past 3 days but so far I love it. My routine: after washing my face in the morning, I put Skinceuticals vitamin c serum on my face (only 2 drops) and move it around my face, then oil free moisturizer, then Elta spf 41 tinted sunscreen (my HG tinted sunscreen btw.....I love it so much I begged my hubby to start using it to prevent skin cancer and he LOVES it and it is the only sunscreen that he will wear on his face because it is a MATTE finish) after the tinted sunscreen, use smashbox primer, then finally THIS FOUNDATION. Today I finished my make up at 9 am and we left for our kiddos soccer tournment.....was at the soccer field from 9:30 - 5 pm and the first time in my life i did NOT blot all day. My makeup looked flawless from 9 am - 3 pm and then I took a napkin at 3 pm and kinda blotted the sweat off my face but at 5 pm when we got home my makeup looked really good. Here's my husband's description: lol, he's very opinionated, lol. He said it had a matte finish but it was not 'powdery looking'. He said it was good coverage but not too thick and still looked breathable and like real skin. My description: great matte finish and felt great on my skin, was not hard to apply, it moved easily while I was applying it. The smell wasn't bad it all, to me. I loved this finish. I don't like a real matte, powdered look nor do I like a real dewy look. Since I have oily skin I sure don't want a dewy look. I think it's medium, buildable covereage. My makeup didn't 'slide off' my face not even sitting outside at a soccer tournament from 9:30 - 5 pm in South Louisiana in the humid, hot sun. I've only used this for 3 full days so I will update if this goes 'south' for me but so far, I love it. I am determined to find my HG foundation.

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - 8-pan Palette "Comfort Zone"
rated 5 of 5
LSUGirl 3/16/2012 7:32:00 PM

I absolutely LOVE this palette of eyeshadows! The colors are fabulous and they ALL coordinate with each other. There are literally 100's of possibilites with this color combination. I do always use my E.L.F. eyeshadow primer (from Target) first in order to insure these colors will be sustainable for a 10 hour stretch. Highly recommend this eyeshadow palette, it's fabUlous. I purchased it from Ulta about 1 month ago. :)

Liquid -Make Up For Ever - Mat Velvet PLUS Matifying Foundation
rated 3 of 5
LSUGirl 3/15/2012 1:02:00 PM

I am on the hunt for a new foundation. I have oily, acne-prone skin with large pores so I'm always searching for my HG foundation. I've been trying this foundation for 5 days now using Color: # 30. This foundation dries to a matte finish quickly, does shows pores but breathable makeup, not clay mask face look, and did get oily in 3 hours but after I 'reapplied powder after 3 hours of wearing my face looked good again. I guess the only thing that really bothered me was I felt it did not absorb into my face, it sort of ‘sat on top of my skin’. I have a few lil dry area from time to time from Retin-A use and it really shows those dry patches also. My morning routine: (put tinted sunscreen, then Avon primer, then concealer, then foundation, powder, etc.) so it's not like I'm not doing all the other steps in order to get my face 'ready' for foundation because I always do. Obviously, I still haven't found my HG foundation yet but hopefully, I will soon.

Foundations -Hourglass - Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation
rated 4 of 5
LSUGirl 3/15/2012 12:27:00 PM

I am on the hunt for the best foundation for my skin type. I have oily, acne-prone skin with large pores. I had head about this foundation so was on the hunt for it. It has a great feel on my face, like-velvet. It doesn't have that 'mask-like' look or feel so feels as though your skin can breathe. Not medium or full coverage, at all more of a sheer-matte look and coverage. It covered my pores so/so but I do want/expect more coverage over my pores. I used the color 'nude' which was a good color for me. My routine is: skinceuticals vitamin c serum, then proactive oil-free moisturizer, then avon primer, THEN FOUNDATION. After these steps each day I want my foundation to 'perform' and even though it provided a fabulous velvet look and feel, it didn't perform to the expectations that I expect from my foundation so I am on to the next one from here. But, if you have no pores or small pores and are looking for sheer-matte coverage, THIS IS YOUR HG. :)

Sunscreen -EltaMD - UV Physical SPF 41
rated 5 of 5
LSUGirl 12/26/2011 9:26:00 PM

I first started this product about 12 weeks ago and it is fabulous. My skin is oily, large pores and red-toned so this is my MIRACLE....it made my face matte finish for HOURS. NO OIL and was a great tint for my complexion, matched my skin tone perfect and made my pores appear smaller. I even told 3 of my friends they had to go purchase this product right away. Most important thing is to apply it to your face then give it about 10 minutes to dry/sink in and then begin applying your other makeup. It really makes a huge difference to allow it time to dry. Important - make sure you wash your face good in the evenings to remove all traces of this before going to bed. I love this and highly recommend.

Foundations -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup with SoftFlex SPF 6 for Combination/Oily Skin
rated 4 of 5
LSUGirl 1/26/2011 8:35:00 PM

I LOVE this foundation and I'm VERY picky ! I bought the sand beige color in the combination/oily Colorstay Foundation and it looks great for HOURS. The key is to put it on in 'sections'. I put about 3 dots on my forehead and then blend it with a foundation brush, then move to the other parts of my face but for sure work in sections and I loved the look with a foundation brush. I have VERY oily skin with large pores and it really looked good. I do always use a primer first with all my foundations but it looked flawless for HOURS and that's never happened before. The color: Sand Beige worked great for me. The store was out of buff and that's the one I went for because I had read great reviews about the color buff on here but I wanted it really bad so I bought Sand Beige and it matches perfect. Highly recommend and will buy again.
