Hair Color -L'Oreal - Feria Haircolor
rated 1 of 5
Kim_in_CA 5/3/2011 8:39:00 PM

I've tried all L'Oreal hair color products now; Excellence, Preference, and Feria. I'm so disappointed in Feria. It's the most expensive of the three, and has a great variety of color selections. You would think with this type of investment, the company would make this their gold standard product. Not for my hair. My hair is fine and oily, and it takes a LOT to make it dry and dull. Feria did a great job of that. Even with the deep conditioner that comes with it, my hair was like straw after coloring. The color was so flat and dull (I tried two colors at different times, three months apart--first, Bronze Shimmer and Tortoiseshell Brown). The applicator was good. It had an extra-long tip which helped to part my long hair well. But other than that, nothing good about this product for me. I'm very disappointed and will go back to Preference. The only reason I strayed in the first place was the wide variety of color selections Feria offered and curiousity. Lesson learned.

Styling Products -TRESemme - 24-hr Body Foaming Mousse
rated 5 of 5
Kim_in_CA 7/21/2010 8:48:00 PM

This mousse is a fantastic product for a great price. I use it like I do a regular mousse, I don't put it on a vented brush, but I do use my hands to distribute it evenly. I flip my head over and dry my hair, then dry it normally with a round brush. The volume, softness and hold is amazing. No stickiness, no drooping, just soft, bouncy volume. Used to use Big Sexy Hair products for styling but no more. This is it! HG status achieved!

Moisturizers -Aveeno - Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF30 [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
Kim_in_CA 7/14/2010 1:15:00 PM

I wanted to love this--I saw it had no avobenzone like the spf 15 product, so I bought it with the highest of hopes. My skin is really sensitive and when I put this on it stung and turned my skin red. The moisturizing properties are great but I can't take the stinging and burning. This goes back and I'll continue to use the only moisturizer that doesn't hurt my skin and actually soothes it, Olay Complete spft 15 for sensitive skin (the CLASSIC formula!).

Treatments (Eye) -L'Oreal - Lash Boosting Serum
rated 5 of 5
Kim_in_CA 6/11/2010 9:08:00 PM

Bottom line: this serum is unbelievable. I'm almost done with my first tube and my eyelashes are so much thicker and longer. I was skeptical about this at first but it was on sale and the reviews here were so good, so I decided to try it. I took pictures of my lashes before I used the serum and then another one last week and the difference is shockingly good. Why anyone would spend $100 for a prescription when this serum is available, I don't know. Don't waste your money on a prescription. Try this, you'll see great results AND you'll save money. What more could you ask for? :)

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Falsies
rated 5 of 5
Kim_in_CA 6/9/2010 11:43:00 PM

I've been waiting for this to come to the stores here after all these intriguing reviews. This mascara is terrific. I like a dramatic eye look most days and this fits the bill. Ever since Cover Girl discontinued my favorite, Fantastic Lash, I've been looking for something that can give me fringy eyelashes you can see a mile away. After trying about every drugstore mascara out there, this one finally did it! NONE of the other Maybelline mascaras have worked for me, ever. This is my new HG until they ultimately discontinue it, like everything else. Then I suppose the search will be on again. Until then, I'm set.

Liquid -Revlon - PhotoReady Makeup
rated 5 of 5
Kim_in_CA 4/9/2010 4:21:00 PM

CVS had a BOGO sale on Revlon foundations, so I got this when I bought my usual Colorstay. So glad I did, because I never would have tried it otherwise. The coverage is as close to perfect as I've ever gotten. It covers well without looking opaque, which is my only beef about Colorstay. I also worry about a sparkly look, as some reviewers have mentioned that this contains it. Upon close inspection I didn't see any kind of sparkle. This is a surprisingly high-quality drugstore foundation. I love it.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Preference Shine Extending Hair Color
rated 5 of 5
Kim_in_CA 1/7/2010 11:00:00 PM

I gave L'Oreal Excellence haircolor a five-star rating last year and I still stand by that--but for my hair, I like Preference even better. I use Medium Golden Brown (5G) and it is a gorgeous color. It really warms up my straight, fine, naturally medium brown hair. The reasons why I like Preference more than Excellence are: 1) my hair is much shinier for much longer. You can see the shine even while you are dying it, and 2) the smell. I don't really care if haircolor smells or not--you can figure all haircolor is going to smell. But Preference smells much better than Excellence. It has a sweet, fruity smell while Excellence just smells like chemicals. The chemical smell really sticks around for a few days too with the Excellence. So for those reasons I like Preference a little bit better.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Oil-Free Redness Soothing Facial Wash gel
rated 5 of 5
Kim_in_CA 12/2/2009 2:46:00 PM

Wow--a redness soothing wash that doesn't burn and sting like crazy AND an acne wash that doesn't dry out my skin?? And Neutrogena makes it? Unbelievable! I was hesitant to try this because my experiences with this cleanser's orange cousin made my face dry, red and scaly. But this strikes the perfect balance between calming facial redness and cleaning out pores with pimple-causing gunk. No dryness at all and that's saying something since I use Retin-A every night. For the first time I am saying "nice job with this cleanser Neutrogena!"

Conditioner -Pantene - Nature Fusion Smooth Vitality Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
Kim_in_CA 10/30/2009 6:27:00 PM

I have been using this conditioner with the nature fusion shampoo and I'm surprised and happy about how wonderful it's working. I have limp, oily, fine, color-treated hair that can't hold a curl and basically just hangs. With this conditioner my hair is so smooth and shiny, it looks great even when I just wear it down, no styling. I was afraid that this would make my hair greasy and flat by the end of the day but it's just been fabulous. I'm having a lot less breakage too. This one's a winner for me.

Shampoo -Pantene - Nature Fusion Smooth Vitality
rated 5 of 5
Kim_in_CA 10/30/2009 6:24:00 PM

I've been using this for about a month now so I think I can write a review. This shampoo is fabulous for my fine, limp, oily, color-treated hair. I was worried when I saw the other reviews that the shampoo made their hair stringy and greasy. That hasn't been the case for me. My hair is strong, super shiny, and holds a style all day long. There has been a lot less breakage, and overall my hair looks great. I'm so happy with this. I've used other Pantene shampoo and conditioners (voluming and thick and full), and both were good; but this really has made a strong difference in how my hair looks. I'm so glad I tried this.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Excellence Creme
rated 5 of 5
Kim_in_CA 10/3/2009 9:04:00 PM

I have naturally medium brown hair but have been highlighting and lowlighting it for years. Well, I live in California, work for the state, so after being furloughed I decided it was time to cut down on some expenses. I used 5G (medium golden brown) to even out my haircolor and not have to deal with roots. First of all, it did come out darker than it looked on the box. But--I LOVE it. I haven't ever colored my hair before but I was able to do it pretty well. I think it helps that it is a cream and not drippy. My hair is in better condition, the color is rich and it looks amazing with my skin! After 10+ years of getting salon hightlights and color, I have never been happier than I was after I used this haircolor. It's been about two weeks and no fading yet, will update if it does. But I will use this from now on instead of going to the salon and shelling out $$$$ for haircolor that didn't suit me nearly as well as Excellence does!

Powders -Clinique - Clinique Redness Solutions Instant Relief Mineral Powder
rated 5 of 5
Kim_in_CA 2/26/2009 12:22:00 AM

Okay, I've given many products five stars before. I'm giving this one five stars too but I can say unequivocally this is the BEST five stars I've ever given. This powder is amazing. I have reactive redness and I'm pretty red most of the day. Once I put this powder on my skin cooled down and stayed that way all day. I even got a compliment on my skin--and I NEVER get compliments on my skin. This is a wonder product and I hope they never discontinue it.

Cleansers -DHC - Mild Cleansing Soap
rated 5 of 5
Kim_in_CA 2/2/2009 12:14:00 AM

I keep straying from this because I'm a product junkie. But I always come back. I have very oily, sensitive, acne-prone skin. I've tried about every cleanser there is and while they work well they either dry me out, burn my skin, or cause breakouts because they don't clean well enough. This is the only cleanser that makes my skin even-toned and doesn't dry me out. It's a lot for one bar but it last such a long time. I use the DHC cleansing oil beforehand at night and it's just a great combination. I love it!

Foundations -L'Oreal - Quickstick Foundation [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
Kim_in_CA 1/17/2009 12:16:00 AM

Love this stuff. I've been buying it for years. Goes on quickly, blends right into my skin, looks natural yet covers all my imperfections. I have very oily, acne-prone skin but this doesn't clog pores. I also have dry spots on my chin and upper lip but it doesn't flake. It's perfection, I hope it is never discontinued!

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Daily Facial Cleanser (Normal to Oily Skin)
rated 4 of 5
Kim_in_CA 1/12/2007 5:22:00 PM

I have oily, acne-prone skin and this cleanser is a dream. I used to use DHC soap, which was fabulous, but my derm prescribed Tazorac gel and the soap just dried my skin out too much. I tried so many different cleansers that either made my skin too dry or too oily--they either cleaned too well or not enough. I tried Cetaphil on a whim, and it was perfect--cleaned my skin perfectly, didn't dry it out and still cleaned the dirt and oil off. Hooray! I know some have complained about the fragrance, but it just smells clean to me, and my daughter even complimented me once on how good my face smelled after I washed w/Cetaphil. *EDIT* Had to take one lipstick off because it dried my chin out a little bit (not as much as other cleansers, though). I'm trying Clean & Clear sensitive skin foaming cleanser and it's not drying me up at all.
