Lotions/ Creams -The Body Shop - Satsuma Body Butter

I have really dry skin and have used body butters in the past and they just don't seem to do much. So I decided to try TBS line and since I've always loved their soaps, and especially the Satsuma fragrance, I gave it a try. I didn't know that this particular body butter is rated for 'normal' skin, I wouldn't have believed it! It's so moisturizing, lovely and creamy and my skin stays moisturized for hours and hours with this product! I can't imagine what the butters for 'dry' skin would be like, if they're anything like this one then they must be amazing! I adore the scent, so fresh. A perfect summertime scent!

Mascara -Kiss Me - Kiss Me Mascara
rated 5 of 5

I absolutely love this mascara because every other mascara, including those that say 'waterproof' will eventually smudge under my eyes for some reason. This stuff stays put until you take it off and you can just rinse it off with water, it's amazing. The only complaint I have is that they have changed the shape of the brush to a thicker one and I like the control I get from a smaller brush, so I apply it with another mascara brush that allows me to put it on thinly and coat every lash. It's not cheap but for me (who hates to wear makeup anyway) it's the only one I'll buy. Have been using it for years.

Powder -Jane Iredale - Amazing Base Loose Finishing Powder
rated 4 of 5

After seeing a mineral makeup infomercial I decided to give mineral makeup a try. First let me say that I HATE wearing foundation, it always makes my face feel 'dirty' so I booked an appt. at a salon that carried this line to have a consultation. I bought the pressed powder in a compact (very expensive, nearly 100.00 Can.) but once out in the daylight it looked horrible, I had a yellow face! Back I go to the salon and exchanged it for a more neutral shade and in the loose format. That worked much better for me, the colour disappeared on my face which is what foundation is supposed to do, not add colour. The big revelation for me was that once it was on I felt clean and bare faced but looked soft and healthy! The application with the loose is tricky, you need to have the proper brush and you almost have to pat it on in downward strokes but once you get the hang of it, you can layer it to get the coverage you want. It never looks dry and I have very dry, mature skin. I invested in the D2O Hydration Spray that the salon recommended to use once the makeup is applied, to 'set' it and it does, you just spray your face damp and then pat any spots that need evening out with your fingertip. This makeup line is very expensive but since you don't use much I think it will last a long time. I'm undecided about buying it again, purely because of the cost, I may try other loose mineral makeup that's available out there to compare but that said, it is a lovely looking makeup that makes your skin look wonderful and healthy and you don't feel like you're wearing makeup, that's a big plus for me!

Lipstick -Lise Watier - Rouge Gourmand Lipstick
rated 5 of 5
Kaytaleen 3/17/2011 1:20:00 PM

Lise Watier is my all time favourite lipstick and my go-to shade for day wear is Ginger Bread. This lipstick is beautifully creamy and doesn't dry out my lips and is very colour saturated which I love! So many lipsticks out there are so sheer you might as well just put on a lip balm for all the colour you get but not with this line. I love the elegant gun metal case too. As a redhead it's hard to find just the right shade..have to steer clear of pinks, mauves and sometimes the orange shades are jarring but this particular shade is so perfect that I've even had salon/spa employees remark on it. They offer a great variety of colours, the lipstick is high quality so if you haven't tried it, definitely do!

Lipstick -Pur Minerals - Shea Butter Lipstick
rated 2 of 5

Lipstick is my thing! I love lipstick so when I saw these at the drug store I decided to try them. I tested the Sheer Zircon on my wrist and the colour looked perfect but when I got it home and put it on my lips, it disappeared completely! It had no colour saturation. It was creamy and moisurizing but too expensive for a product that had left my lips looking bare. I decided that maybe it was just that particular shade so I bought another, the Sheer Citrine. This gave more colour but not much. I think that may be my issue with these lipsticks, they lack colour saturation when you put them on, they are almost more like a very light gloss, in fact, their gloss line is fabulous, lots of colour saturation there, my fav gloss so far! In fairness, the lipsticks are wonderfully moisturizing and seem to last but at 18.00 a tube, too much to pay for a glorified lip balm. This product is not for me.

Skincare - Face -Pur Minerals - mineral moisture complex
rated 3 of 5
Kaytaleen 3/17/2011 12:25:00 PM

I am halfway through this jar of cream and at this point I don't know if I would buy this again. I have very dry skin and live in Canada and I have one small dry patch and this cream is not correcting this so far. It's a lovely smooth cream and quickly absorbed, not greasy. My face does look dewy after I put it on and I've had no bad reaction so far which is great because some of the heavier creams that I've tried will cause a reaction on my sensitive skin. I will wait until the jar is finished and see if it's made a difference but at this point I am undecided as to whether I'll buy it again.
