Moisturizers -Paula's Choice - Skin Balancing Moisture Gel
Katya004 8/26/2008 5:10:00 AM
This is my HG moisturiser. It's kind of phenomenal for the price--the texture is almost more like a serum or a primer, and the ingredient profile is solid. It also has a unique effect on my skin, leaving it smoothe and soft and not the least bit greasy. Paula indicates it for oily or combination skin--which usually describes me, except that I recently started a retinol regimen and my face was falling off at one point. This product did a decent job of calming the redness and peeling, even comparing favourably to PC Hydrating Treatment Cream. I considered withholding a lippie for the lack of SPF, but considering that the addition of an ingredient like zinc oxide would have compromised the remarkable texture, I'm satisfied to consider it a night cream and leave it at that.

Fragrances -Philosophy - Pure Grace
Katya004 8/26/2008 5:01:00 AM
It's not very often that I'm taken by a particular fragrance, but this one does it for me. The first time I tried it, I thought to myself that philosophy hit the nail on the head--it does indeed smell exactly like "soap and water"--but in a really interesting, evocative and almost sentimental way. I've not been without it since. My only complaint is to me, the scent does not last long at all--but then my sense of smell isn't so sensitive, so that may be an unfair criticism.

Lips -Laura Mercier - Lip Stain in Shy Pink
Katya004 8/11/2008 10:39:00 AM
I'd been looking for the perfect neutral lip shade, and I think this is it. Most "nudes" or "neutrals" skew toward an unflattering brown or a precious pink, but this shade is a perfect proportion of pink and brown. It's pretty and chic--and unobtrusive. Also, I'm a PPP who is Mystic-tanned to death at the moment (classy, I know.) Shy Pink suits my natural fair, cool-toned skin and also the light/medium golden shade produced by the spray tan. It's not unduly drying; lasting power is OK--I wouldn't necessarily call it a stain. I apply, blot, and then reapply--that aids staying power. I also layer it over a true stain sometimes, like PosieTint. The pot is cute, but I find it kind of annoying to carry around a lip brush or to have to use my finger constantly. Not LM's fault--but there you have it.
