Mascara -Rimmel - Volume Flash The Max
rated 5 of 5
Kathe 8/19/2010 1:24:00 AM

This product may have replaced L'Oreal's Voluminous as my HG mascara. The formula is thick and luxurious, does not clump, and is relatively smudgeproof. The brush is perfect as far as application goes. Not only that, the brush also feels feels beautifully soft and comfortable during application.. I am 52, and this is probably the best mascara I've ever used. This formula separates my sparse lashes and makes them look very thick, long, and feathery. What more could I ask for?

Styling Products -L'Oreal - StudioLine Downright Smooth Super Smoothing Spray
rated 5 of 5
Kathe 6/28/2007 9:33:00 PM

I am totally shocked. I never thought I would find my HG hair smoothing product at my neighborhood supermarket for a mere $4. My naturally curly, fine, thick hair tends to frizz, even here in the Las Vegas desert; I have tried many serums, sprays, gels, and pomades to tame my unruly locks. I spritzed on this product, let my hair air-dry as usual, and nearly fell over when I caught sight of my soft, smooth, shining waves. Congratulations to L'oreal and their genius cosmetic chemists!

Styling Products -Garnier - Brilliantine Shine Glossing Spray
rated 4 of 5
Kathe 2/8/2007 10:18:00 AM

This is the best shine spray I have ever used. What I really look for in a glossing spray is its ability to smooth my fine, thick, naturally curly, color-treated hair. This product performs that task beautifully, and certainly imparts as much shine as anything else I've ever tried. Just a few spritzes on my short-to-medium length hair, and I'm totally sleek. A great buy, especially considering that Garnier styling products are regularly on sale for $3.00 each at my local supermarket. The only negative is its overwhelming chemical-fruit scent. Fortunately, this annoying aroma dissipates quickly.

Mascara -Almay - One Coat Mascara (lengthening)
rated 1 of 5
Kathe 1/11/2007 5:43:00 AM

I bought this as a special prepack: buy one, get one free. Both tubes of mascara performed equally badly! The formulation is very dry and builds neither length nor thickness. Not only did I have to keep reapplying mascara during the day so my lashes wouldn't disappear, the formula also smudges fairly easily. The tubes themselves only contained enough product to last a couple of weeks. And to think Almay once made a Triple Thick formulation which was one of my all-time favorites!

Treatments -Charles Worthington - RESULTS hair healer intensive leave-in conditioner
rated 4 of 5
Kathe 12/20/2006 3:53:00 PM

Finally! A leave-in treatment that works! Every other treatment I've tried is comparable to applying conditioner to my freshly-washed hair. This has a gel-like consistency and definitely smoothes and moisturizes my short, naturally curly, color-treated hair. It is pleasantly scented and applies smoothly. My only complaint is that the cap of the upside-down tube is a bit difficult to open. But this product is a winner, and definitely makes a difference. I will putchase this again.

Mascara -Max Factor - 2000 Calorie Mascara
rated 1 of 5
Kathe 6/24/2006 2:45:00 PM

What happened? I remember 2000 Calorie as being a very good thickening mascara. It has been years since I used this product, as I nearly always stick with L'Oreal and Maybelline. I saw this on sale and decided to try it again -- and what a disappointment! It does build up my lashes nicely, although there is a tendency to clump. I was simply amazed at how much this macara smears, even more so than Maybelline's Great Lash. What happened to the formula? I suppose the waterproof version should be used, but those formulations are awfully hard on the lashes, so I would prefer not to use a waterproof mascara daily. Attention, cosmetic chemists: don't mess with a good thing! Sometimes the original formulations are really the best!

Mascara -Avon - Beyond Color Lash Fortifying Mascara
rated 1 of 5
Kathe 4/5/2006 6:08:00 PM

What a disappointment! This mascara builds little length and less thickness, and also has a very wet texture. Even worse, it has no staying power at all and I find myself having to reapply several times a day. And not only that, the mascara liquefied in the tube (making a gloppy mess) during cool, breezy March weather. Talk about a low melting point! The brush is quite good and the silver tube is interestingly shaped and attractive; too bad the mascara itself is so poor.

Lipstick -Bonne Bell - Smooth Shades
rated 4 of 5
Kathe 3/30/2006 1:11:00 PM

What a pleasant surprise! And what a lovely, durable silver tube! I bought Nearly Nude Vanilla and Sheer Vanilla, which are two shimmery neutral shades which taste great. This is not a long-lasting lipstick, but the texture is very creamy without being sticky -- and I have very dry lips. I am wondering if Bonne Bell has experienced a quality control problem, as I was surprised that other reviewers considered the texture to be quite dry. I must have really lucked out, as the caps fit very snugly and have not once come off in my makeup bag, which is a problem I've occasionally experienced with virtually every other brand, regardless of cost. Will definitely purchase again.

Concealers -Maybelline - Instant Age Rewind Concealer [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
Kathe 2/16/2006 8:51:00 AM

I really like this concealer, which does a great job of hiding undereye circles. In fact, a co-worker asked me why I didn't have undereye circles! So I have no complaints about its coverage or blendability or application. The Light shade is a classic neutral with no pinkish undertones. So why am I giving this product only two lipsticks? I knew this when I purchased it: this product does not lift or rewind anything! It is simply an excellent concealer.

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Cool Effect Liner/Shadow in Cold Cash
rated 5 of 5
Kathe 2/16/2006 8:45:00 AM

This is a great eyeshadow crayon. The application is (yes!) cool, smooth, and even; the texture is creamy and blendable. This shade is a classic muted khaki which works well on the lid or as a thick smudged line beneath the lower lashes. The staying power is very good as well, especially considering its soft consistency. This certainly beats eye crayons which cost ten times as much! And I don't mind sharpening the product, but wouldn't it have been great if this eye crayon came with its own built-in sharpener? That's a hint for next time, Maybelline!

Mascara -Maybelline - XXL volume+length microfiber mascara
rated 2 of 5
Kathe 2/16/2006 8:17:00 AM

I did like this mascara quite a bit. It actually made my lashes look feathery, which for me is quite a feat! However, I must take off a couple of lipsticks for the incredibly awkward packaging. The mascara wand itself is very short, and the brush is very long, which makes application incredibly clumsy. Just how many women actually applied this product in testing before it was put on the market? And naturally, I am out of mascara but still have a decent amount of primer left. I knew that would happen! I would purchase this again, but only if it were on sale. And I do wish Maybelline would come out with the primer in its own tube -- and how about making the primer black rather than white to blend in with the mascara?

Mascara -Revlon - Fabulash
rated 4 of 5
Kathe 1/5/2006 12:52:00 PM

A big improvement over the original Fabulash! The formula builds length and thickness, and the unique brush grips every lash. The formula does not smudge or smear easily. This product is comparable to most of the excellent Maybelline and L'Oreal mascaras -- high praise indeed! A winner!

Styling Products -Garnier - Fructis Style - Smoothing Milk
rated 1 of 5
Kathe 9/14/2005 6:40:00 AM

To me, there is no difference between applying this product after shampooing and simply rubbing a bit of conditioner into your hair. The results are identical! I suppose my thick, fine, color-treated, naturally curly hair needs something a bit more concentrated. So it's back to Sebastian's Potion 9 or Frizz-Ease Wind-Down Relaxing Creme. Incidentally, I knocked this product down a lipstick due to its cheap pump dispenser, which malfunctions at least half the time. I'd love to give that packaging designer a thump on the head!

Lipstick -Clinique - Long Last Soft Shine Lipstick
rated 2 of 5
Kathe 8/24/2005 4:30:00 AM

I find this lipstick to be just too creamy and greasy for me -- even with my unusually dry lips. How soft is this product? After a few applications, the tip of the lipstick broke off in the tube. That's a first for me! I must say, however, that the colors are gorgeous. I have this product in Bamboo Pink, but thought everyone would like to know that Maybelline's Moisture Whip Lipstick in Pink Topaz is a nearly identical shade -- and you can save $10!

Styling Products -Garnier - Fructis Sleek and Shine Weightless Anti-Frizz Serum
rated 4 of 5
Kathe 6/1/2005 10:07:00 AM

This product definitely took some getting used to, since I'm used to serum-in-a-tube products which are much thicker and only require a few drops to smoothe my hair. This serum is thin and runny; the pump bottle dispenses a quarter-sized dollop. Happily, this serum works very well. A pump and a half of product is enough to beautifully polish my short, thick, fine, naturally curly locks. I apply this on either wet or dry hair, and it works well every time. The scent is not the greatest, to say the least, but it dissipates quickly. I must agree with other reviewers: Garnier, please perfect this product by changing its fragrance!
