Treatments -Nuance by Salma Hayek - Blackcurrant Intense Hydration Hair Mask
KateSchuette 11/2/2012 11:16:00 PM
I remember seeing the Salma Hayek label before and being like "Hah, Hah, I will never buy celebrity products. They are for the sad, tasteless masses. You do not fool me with your fetching twisted vine decals." But yesterday it was a reasonable price and had nice packaging and I thought, "oh well, YOU WILL SUFFICE." I left this on overnight and washed it off in the morning. I was in a rush and just dried my hair quickly, twisted it into a bun and flew out of my apartment. Sometime during my drive I took my hair down to let it finish drying and MY GOD, MY HAIR SMELLS BEAUTIFUL. It still smells beautiful. I have it all over my face right now. I don't know if my hair is moisturized any more than had I used some other drugstore bought hair mask, but I don't have time to care because all I am doing is sitting here in bed with my hair on my face. Maybe later when my nose adapts I will update you on that.

Lips -Revlon - Just Bitten Kissable Stain Balm - Crush
KateSchuette 8/26/2012 3:50:00 AM
Love this. It's a fairly low cost option for a lip stain, and the color is a nice sheer berry. I'll either dab just a bit on for a natural pop or do a few extra swipes for a more vibrant look. I love how it's eye-catching but doesn't look overdone. It's not very moisturizing so you might need an additional balm. FYI, I'm a ginger girl so it might be a good choice if you have red hair, too ;)

Cleansers -Burt's Bees - Deep Cleansing Cream with Soap Bark and Chamomile
KateSchuette 12/12/2010 8:53:00 PM
I really wanted to like this. Gentle, organic-y; and I for one love products with menthol (Japanese eyedrops, anyone? Best ever). I thought since I'm 23 my skin would be over the acne thing and I could just wash my face with nature. After using this for a little while and blaming my skin problems on my moisturizer, I realized that the reason little blackheads are beginning to multiply on my chin is probably because my pores have been left to fend for themselves. I think I need to go find something that cleans more deeply. I'm still going to keep this for when my skin feels really dry, but I'm going back to Eucerin on a daily basis.

Moisturizers -Origins - A Perfect World SPF 25
KateSchuette 11/29/2010 2:25:00 AM
I really like A Perfect World serum, so I thought I'd like this as a daytime moisturizer. I was underwhelmed. I don't think the sunscreen has the staying power I'd like for my humid climate. Pros - smells good, feels good on. I have normal skin and it added the right amount of moisture. Cons - I would still be a little sunburned at the end of the day if I'd been outside a bunch (live in sunny climate). I had an alba sunscreen that would keep me protected longer. I've switched back to that.

Gels/Soaps -Dr. Bronner's - Peppermint Castille Soap
KateSchuette 10/18/2010 5:09:00 AM
This is the best thing that ever happened to me. I've used Lavender in the past and decided to give peppermint a whirl. I'm a huge fan of L'Occitane shower oil - but I'll be paying $22 no longer. I love this stuff - it's so refreshing! And it's non-drying.

Skincare - Face -Neutrogena - Ageless Intensives Deep Wrinkle Moisture Night
KateSchuette 9/13/2010 4:02:00 AM
I've gone through two tubes so far - about 5 months. I think I'm using this in the hopes that the retinol will act as a wrinkle preventative, even though I'm not sure retinol works that way. What I have noticed is my skin (not sensitive, I don't blemish easily but I do have some redness) feels very soft and smooth in the morning. I haven't broken out in a long time. That's the only difference I can tell between Neutrogena and other products as I generally take good care of my skin. I'll probably continue to buy this or try the serum instead. Eventually I'd like to try a stronger retinol cream, maybe in a year or two. UPDATE I don't think I'll buy this again. When I first started using it, my skin felt really good, but I guess my skin is used to it now and it isn't really doing anything that I couldn't get in a lower priced product.

Skincare - Body -Unlisted Brand - Monoi de Tahiti oil
KateSchuette 9/7/2010 1:48:00 PM
I bought the sandalwood fragrance because I don't really like to wear florals. It smells all right; the scent wears off. When my bottle runs out, I'll probably go back to Longs and see if the gardenia is lighter. I've tried all kinds of oils (almond, avocado, coconut, jojoba, you name it), but I'm pretty sure this does the best job. It sinks in really well and gives my skin that smooth feeling only oils can impart. I use it on my face (I'm not sensitive) when feeling dry, and the rest of the time put it all over my body after I shower. One of my favorite uses for this is as a hair treatment. I have very fine hair, so oils often won't wash out properly. I haven't had that problem with this monoi (and I use sulfate-free shampoo, at that). My hair feels soft and is easier to brush for the next day or two. I will definitely buy again. A lot of the commenters have said the product smells like vomit. I didn't notice anything close to this - mine smelled fine, pretty light. Perhaps the bottle was already rancid? I would be concerned about purchasing online, in that case; see if you can return the product if it smells off.

Fragrances -Tocca - Florence Perfume
KateSchuette 11/17/2009 2:47:00 AM
I was initially drawn to romantic appearance of the Tocca line, and the perfume bottle was something I definitely wanted to have perched on my dresser. I finally chose the Florence fragrance because although it was very floral it possessed a kind of watery greenness that appealed to me. Anyway, it reminded me of spending rainy weekends in our little old house drinking tea and reading, and that's now my favorite time to wear it. I do find it strong when first applied, so I probably wouldn't head out of the house immediately. I still prefer my Miss Dior Cherie for everyday wear (yes, I like girly frangrances!), but when I'm feeling a little more romantic (and bookish) I reach for this one. UPDATE I am a fickle woman and began to dislike how strong this is. I don't use it anymore.
