Powder -Silk Naturals - Mineral Foundation
Kahani 4/5/2008 3:05:00 PM
I'm an Asian girl that appears to be between skin tones. Neutrals look too pink on me and warms are always too yellow. This marvelous foundation allows me to customize it my skin tone precisely. Two scoops of buttery gold + a half scoop of warm gold to 12 white gives me my absolutely perfect shade. And the best part? Just buying the sample kit is enough to keep me going for a long time. All I need to do is buy the white powder for a mere USD 5.50 and I'm good for another 3 months. The finish can be as sheer or as concealing as you want it to be. Just layer it on. No breakouts, pretty good oil control, long lasting and a very natural finish. When I want a little more glitz for night I shake in some of her mineral glow in Halo and voila. Beautiful! I'm really loving this entire makeup line. It's affordable, eco-friendly, skin-friendly, and very customer responsive... just perfect.

Loose Powders -Silk Naturals - Perfecting powder (untinted)
Kahani 4/5/2008 3:00:00 PM
Love love love. I've been using a sample of this powder for the last week and have already ordered a full-sized one as living without it is unthinkable! It controls oil, set my mineral foundation and gives me an airbrushed-but-natural look and glow. Wonderful! I'm really loving this entire makeup line. It's affordable, eco-friendly, skin-friendly, and very customer responsive... just perfect.

Foundations -New York Color - Smooth Mineral Pressed Powder Foundation
Kahani 3/12/2008 1:00:00 PM
UPDATE 3/4/2008: This broke my heart, really it did. IT BROKE ME OUT! Unacceptable despite all the great qualities about it. I disagree with the reviewer before me about the foundation. Although I heartily agree with the brush. I never even TRIED to use it, just tossed it aside - don't know why they tried to supply one at all. It's such a sad brush. About the foundation, I bought it because although I love my L'oreal True Match mineral foundation with all my heart and soul, it's a complete pain while travelling. So,when I saw this convenient, slim, sturdy looking container in Superdrug for £2.99, I thought, "what do I have to lose?". I bought it in Natural Medium. I've tested it out this morning and so far, I'm impressed! I used my Bobbi Brown Kabuki brush to apply it over concealer (undereye, and major dark spots), and although the finish is more sheer and matte than L'oreal it's not too bad. It evened out my skin tone, and looked natural. Using a BE max concealer brush I went over spots that needed additional coverage. A dusting of loose powder and I was done. I'm impressed with its oil control. I have really oily skin that has me blotting with L'oreal but so far I haven't blotted once (it's 4pm) and I don't look like a grease pool, my nose is a bit shiny but it looks natural. I'm waiting to judge it on lasting power and to see if it breaks me out. But so far, it's a definitely god-send for the trip I'm planning.

Foundations -Max Factor - Miracle Touch Liquid Illusion Foundation
Kahani 3/2/2008 3:14:00 PM
I've been using the sample I received and thus far I'm impressed! I have oily, pimple prone skin with previous scarring. Just a tiny bit of this foundation is all I need to even out skin tone. With a tiny bit extra to cover blemishes. It helps with dark undereye circles, but if I want full coverage I use No.7 undereye illuminating concealer. I believe the packaging is a screw top lid because they really need to keep the air out of this product, but I agree (from handling it in the store) that it seems quite a hassle. Also, I'd like to add that the sponge is useless and wastes product. Use a foundation brush! You don't need an expensive one, I use The Body Shop's and it works wonderfully. I just dab the tip of the brush in the foundation and 'paint' it on, patting to blend. Then I go over blemishes with a concealer brush. The finish looks luminous and natural. The foundation feels very light and is longlasting. I'm impressed by the oil control, although I do dust over with loose powder. I know my skin, and it needs all the help it can get. I'm on my third day and I think the tiny sample will last me a week! So get a foundation brush and I'm sure the full-sized jar will last at least 3 months. I'm still waiting for breakouts but so far my skin has remained clear and happy. EDIT: I believe it broke me out. Darn.

Polishes -Bourjois - Bourjois French Manicure 3-Piece Kit
Kahani 6/14/2007 8:49:00 AM
The most perfect DIY French Manicure Kit in the world bar none. I've tried quite a few DIY kits as I love french manis but can't afford a french manicurist. I've tried stick on guides (which work for me), and a large combination of products - each took at least 2 hours to complete and let's face it, who has that sort of time? This kit however comes wih 3 large bottles of polish. The white polish has "pinceau ideal" a specially shaped brush (flat, firm, and curved) that lets you paint on the perfect white line following the natural curve of your nail it also dries almots instantly - making it almost foolproof. My kit came with So Laque's Rose Lounge 13 the perfect french mani shade. Just translucent enough without washing me out, natural, and dries fast to a shiny laquer finish. And finally, the fixant brilliant clear topcoat that ALSO dries instantly to provide a perfect finish and keeps your french mani lasting and lasting. This kit's so easy that my first try at it resulted in almost salon-perfect nails, first go. Amazing. And so pretty!

Lip Gloss -Bourjois - Gloss Menthol Refreshing Breath Treat
Kahani 6/3/2007 7:34:00 AM
Following the hype surrounding blue lipgloss thanks to Kevyn Aucoin, Dior, and Bliss (California Kissing), when I had to give it a try with Bourjois Menthol gloss in the mini-bourjois handphone charm size. I love it! I may go back and buy the full sized gloss if I can decant it into the smaller, portable charm (it's just so practical on the go). The gloss doesn't smell strongly at first, but when on has a subtle, refreshing methol - not peppermint - scent. The tingly feeling lasts and adds to the refreshing fun. Now the blue tint, Kevyn Aucoin swore by it to make teeth appear whiter, and for a glassy, glossy transparent look. If you're a warm girl, this may not be for you, but don't worry it'll turn your lips blue, it won't. It just creates an effect. Over red lipstain, or this season's nude lippies it really gives your lips that translucent glossy look they achieve in magazines.

Fragrances -The Body Shop - Cranberry Body Mist
Kahani 12/2/2006 8:34:00 AM
Was so happy they'd finally produced this fragrance as a cologne. Love the scent, and its great to spritz it on instead of having to use it in a lotion or body butter. However, since its staying power is so poor, layering it may actually be a necessity - one I will gladly do for this scent though. *sighs*

Scrubs -Neutrogena - Deep Clean Gentle Scrub
Kahani 9/27/2006 6:21:00 AM
I adore this scrub its a HG staple in my skincare routine. I use it twice a a day and it helps keep my really oily, acne prone skin clear. When I tried substituting Eucerin's daily scrub for acne-prone skin my face just broke out in little white bumps. Went back on Neutro and it cleared up. Problem is, I'm now in Denmark and they DON'T HAVE NEUTROGENA HERE! *cries* My skin is about to go to hell in a handbasket and I don't know what to do!

Sunscreen -Avene - Avene Gel Creme SPF20
Kahani 7/21/2006 12:33:00 AM
I reviewed this product sometime back when I first tried it, I gave it only 1 lippie and was vastly disappointed in it. It doesn't mattify, was thick and sticky, and it has a whitish cast. And yet I KEEP on going back to it because so far its the only reliable sunscreen that does not break me out with continuous and daily use. I've tried Nivea, Lancome, simple, L'oreal, The Body Shop, Coppertone, and even Eucerin, all of them broke me out. Its tragic. They all felt better, mattify better and look better than Avene's but they ALL broke me out. Some (like L'Oreal) in huge painful bumps, and some (like Eucerin) in tiny clogged comodomes that won't go away. So, I run back to Avene and my skin clears up in a week or so. *sighs* So here's my new review with a much much higher lippie rating. I figure anything I keep running back to to save my skin deserves more. It doesn't clog up my pores, it doesn't break me out, and if you apply lightly it isn't all that sticky. I just wish it mattified!

Cleansers -Eucerin - Impure Skin Sebum Reducing Cleansing Gel
Kahani 5/25/2006 3:23:00 AM
Lovely cleanser. Cleans oil and makeup without stripping. Leaves my oily oily (but prone to dry patches if abused) skin feeling more balanced than anything I've ever tried. This is so coming to Europe with me along with the rest of the range, I think it'll help me adapt to the drier climate yet keep my skin clear (thank goodness Eucerin's a European brand).

Moisturizers -Eucerin - Daily Control & Care Moisturizer
Kahani 5/25/2006 3:20:00 AM
This moisturiser is marketed here in Malaysia as, "Skin-regulating Cream Gel for Acne Prone Skin". The active ingrediant is Lactic Acid and this is more of a moisturiser that treats rather than a treatment product. That said, I love it! Results within a few days, much clearer skin with old blemishes coming to a head and disappearing swiftly. It also moisturises well.

Palettes -Bobbi Brown - Pink Face Palette
Kahani 3/31/2006 11:21:00 AM
In celebration of my two-year scholarship to Europe, I ran out and bought this palette reasoning to myself that as the colours at the kind I wear everyday I'll just tote this baby along with me and reconcile myself to leaving my huge makeup collection behind.
The colours (which have been described really well already) are fresh, beautiful and classic and in generous amounts. The wonderful Pink Blush is fabulously huge - worth the RM180 (USD$47) I paid for it.
The colours look great on me, and the quality of the products leave me looking polished and well-groomed. I can vary the intensity of the look to go from fresh faced to slightly smouldering.
While this look can be achieved (and I kind of do already) using other products - I don't have it all in one palette, and not in this quality. Honestly, BB may not be big on creativity but for classic beautiful looks you can wear everyday that flatter and for quality pigments that distribute like a dream, she can't be beat.
For the record, I'm a fair (NC20) Asian from Malaysia.

Foundations -Za - Two-Way Foundation SPF20 PA++
Kahani 3/15/2006 9:51:00 PM
Hoorah! New HG product for me. I've always loved powder foundations, but found that they just melt away in hot Malaysian weather. Za's 2-way foundation lasts all day with blotting though.
I still use my HG concealer, Revlon Colorstay Foundation, dust loose powder over to set, and then swipe on Za's foundation in shade 21 (a perfect match).
The coverage is high, and you can layer it on for higher coverage. On initial application, it's very matte and powdery, but after a few minutes it settles down and gives me a beautiful air-brushed glow. Very nice.
It's oil control is average... but then nothing has ever worked anyways. It doesn't break me out and it's very easily touched up. Blot, and pat it on, it doesn't look cakey.
I'll definitely buy again, and I love the LE case I got. It's smaller than the usual (the puff and foundation lie vertically instead of horizontally, and it's white with lovely pale green butterflies stenciled on. Adorable!
