Mascara -Revlon - Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara
Jods101 4/16/2013 12:03:00 PM
I bought this on a whim. I was running out of the stuff I normally use and I needed to pick something up while I was running errands and this happened to be on sale so I thought I'd try it. I don't really care for the formula. It's kind of dry and clumpy. But there are two things about this that I hate enough that I wouldn't buy it again. 1) The brush is HUGE and it makes it really hard to get to the little lashes in the corners of your eye's. 2) Even though I bought the regular formula instead of the waterproof this stuff was really hard to remove. Just as hard as a waterproof formula so be sure you use a makeup remover that's specifically for waterproof makeup. Even so it's still hard to get off. I had thought I had done a pretty thorough job of removing it all but when I woke up the next day I could still see residue underneath & around my eye's so I used more makeup remover and, sure enough, I STILL had mascara on my lashes. That has never happened to me before. This stuff is awful. As far as the claims that it helps grow lush long lashes, I didn't use it long enough to see any difference but I would guess that's probably nothing more than a cheap sales gimmick. Even though I got it on sale I think it's overpriced for the quality. (or lack of) Won't repurchase this. I just wasn't crazy about this one.

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara
Jods101 4/16/2013 11:41:00 AM
I'm probably the last person on earth to try this stuff because it's been around forever but there was always something about the packaging that turned me off from it. But it seems that alot of women swear by this stuff so I finally caved in one day and bought some just to see what all the fuss was about. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. I do like that the brush is the older style of bristles instead of the new silicone style because that's just what I prefer so that was a big plus for me and I really like the way it looks on my lashes because it looks more natural (no clumps & it doesn't go on too thick or cakey) but my only complaint is that it runs & smudges REALLY easily. It must be a very water soluble formula. So for example if you sneezed or something and your eye's watered even just a tiny bit this stuff runs like crazy and gets everywhere. I bought the regular formula in this, not the waterproof. I never buy waterproof because it's usually so hard to remove without losing some lashes in the process so I tend to avoid those but this takes it to the extreme opposite. Really disappointed. I'll probably use up what's left of the tube I have but I won't repurchase it. I just hate the way it wears.

Conditioner -Paul Mitchell - the Detangler
Jods101 12/24/2012 1:36:00 AM
My hair is pretty healthy and I have alot of it but it's fine and straight so I can't use a conditioner that's too heavy or I'll lose what little bit of body I have. I bought this to go with my PM shampoo and I was really pleasantly surprised by it. It's not like most detanglers/conditioners I've used. It's almost like a lotion. It has a light clean smell to it, nothing overpowering or offensive. It leaves my hair so soft and bouncy and I only need to use about the size of a dime for my long hair. It's very lightweight but it makes my hair easier to comb through and with the dry winter air it also helps make my hair less flyaway too. For me, it conditions my hair without weighing it down and that's what I love about it. This is one I will definitely purchase again. Good stuff.

Shampoo -Suave - Professionals Shampoo and Conditioner (entire series)
Jods101 12/24/2012 12:09:00 AM
I so wanted to love this but it really did not work for me. I used the Color Protection shampoo and conditioner from this line and at first I really liked them. It's so cheap and it made my hair feel soft and manageable but over time my hair started to feel weighed down and it became limp and lifeless and I noticed about halfway through the day it became really oily too. I could never skip a day. I had to wash my hair daily just to combat the oil. Then I started using suave's clarifying shampoo once a week to try to help remove the build up but it didn't help at all. I used this shampoo and conditioner for several months and eventually I ended up with so much build up from this that it caused breakouts on my scalp. When I went in for a haircut I told my stylist that I really wished I could have more body in my hair and she asked me what kind of shampoo I was using so I told her. She actually scraped a little of my hair with the tip of her scissors just to show me how much buildup she could get off of my hair from these products and I have to admit I was pretty surprised by what I saw. And I don't use styling products in my hair very often so I know it had to be from this shampoo and conditioner. So I stopped using it and I switched to a better quality shampoo and conditioner and after a few weeks of using that I FINALLY had a healthy scalp and fuller hair again. This was such a disappointment but I have learned my lesson and you definitely get what you pay for. Never again.

Treatments (Eye) -Makeup Artist's Choice (MUAC) - Transforming Anti Aging Eye Repair
Jods101 7/28/2012 1:14:00 AM
Eh, nothing special here. I bought the sample size about a month ago to see if it would help to smooth out the fine lines I have under my eyes. I use it twice a day. Once in the morning and again at night after cleansing before I go to bed. The sample size is generous and it does have a nice thick consistency. Unfortunately I was hoping it would be more moisturizing but after a few minutes it just sort of melts into your skin. Not bad but not great either. I have no problems wearing it under makeup and I didn't have any negative reaction or irritation from this but as far as anti aging goes, I don't really see any improvement or changes in my skin. I'll probably use up what little bit I have left but I don't think I'd purchase this again. EDITED: I hate leaving a negative review because I think this is a great place to do business with but I tried the full size jar (to be fair & give it more time) and after several months of use I still see no difference in my skin. None whatsoever. So if you're looking for an affordable gentle moisturizer that won't cause irritation I'd say by all means try it but as far as the anti-aging claim goes, it does absolutely nothing for that. Save your money.

Treatments -Makeup Artist's Choice (MUAC) - Skin Bleaching Gel

I really wanted to like this but this just did nothing for me. The positive: The packaging was fine and shipping was fast. The negative: I didn't care for the sticky consistency of this. I was hoping that this would help fade my melasma spots and old red acne scars over time but after several weeks of use I didn't see any noticeable results and all it did was irritate my skin and cause breakouts. I think I'll try the fade peel instead and see if I can get better results with that.

Fragrances -Philosophy - Pure Grace
Jods101 7/27/2012 11:42:00 PM
I haven't bought myself any perfume in a really long time and thought I'd treat myself to something new. While on my search I stumbled onto this. I'm not really a big fan of perfumes in general and I prefer things that smell fresh, light and clean as opposed to musky, heavy overly floral scents etc. According to the description of this it's supposed to smell like fresh from the shower clean (which is exactly what I was looking for) I don't know if this just didn't agree with my body chemistry or if maybe I just happened to get a bad batch or what it was about this but this did not smell fresh and clean on me at all. This smelled very much like patchouli on me. The only smell I hate more than baby powder is patchouli. I absolutely HATE patchouli. It smells like old lady or something that's been in an old trunk in your grandmothers musty basement for the last forty years. Absolutely nauseating. And not only does it smell awful but the scent has no staying power either. Which was probably a good thing in my case. I'm glad I only bought the small purse size with the roller ball. At least I wasn't out much when I tossed it in the trash. I couldn't throw this stuff out fast enough.

Foundations -Unlisted Brand - Lucy Minerals Foundation
Jods101 4/24/2012 10:25:00 AM
I've tried so many different brands of MMU and I've found a few that I really liked but nothing has really wowed me, until I tried Lucy Minerals. I ordered a few samples just to try it out. The samples came in little sifter jars and I received a free sample of an eye makeup along with my order. This is unlike anything else I've tried. It's hard to describe what this feels like on the skin. When you first apply it it's similar to other mineral makeup but over a short period of time it just sort of melts into your skin and it becomes creamy. To me it looks more natural than any other mineral makeup I've tried. It doesn't make my skin look glittery or shiny (which I love) but instead it's more of a smooth finish. It has alot of pigment in it and it gives great coverage so a little goes a long way. I usually have to wear a concealer under my eyes with other makeup but with this I don't even need it. I have to avoid makeup with common irritants in it like bismuth oxychloride because it causes breakouts and makes my skin itch terribly so I was happy to see that this doesn't have ingredients in it that irritate my skin. In fact the original formula actually has a few antioxidants in it but there is also a formula without them too called "Lucy Light". I wore this with no itching, no irritation and it has great staying power. (If staying power is a problem for you try using a good quality primer underneath it) My only complaint is that I didn't think there was enough of a variety of color selections in the foundations but they will make a custom blend for you if you can't find an exact match or if you're in between shades etc. Shipping took a little longer than expected but not a big deal, all of the makeup is very reasonably priced, great customer service and I love being able to support a small company too. What's not to love?!? I think I just may have found my HG in mineral makeup! :)

Powder -Meow Cosmetics - Flawless Feline Mineral Foundation
Jods101 4/23/2012 3:05:00 PM
I ordered a few samples of this a while ago and I finally got around to trying them and so far I really like this makeup. My samples came in plastic baggies in a little animal print pouch and all of the makeup has cat related names which I thought was really cute :) Shipping took a little longer than I expected but I received a few eyeshadow samples with my order, which I thought was a nice touch. Their eyeshadows have alot of pigment in them so a little goes a long way. I love that this does not have ingredients in it that usually clog my pores and cause irritation such as Bismuth Oxychloride and it doesn't have a ton of mica in it so it doesn't look too shiny and glittery and best of all because it did not make my skin itch and breakout like so many other mineral makeups do. Yay! They have a great color selection which makes it really easy to find a match. I'd say the coverage is ok. Probably sheer - medium at best, even in the "Flawless Feline" finish but it is buildable and I like that this doesn't look chalky or powdery. All in all I'd say that although this is not my HG in MMU I do think it is one of the better formulas out there that I've tried (especially for those with sensitive skin) and I really like that it gives pretty good coverage with minimal ingredients. This is one I would definitely use/buy it again.

Conditioner -L'Oreal - EverPure Moisture Conditioner
Jods101 4/23/2012 12:49:00 PM
I bought this to go along with the Everpure shampoo and I really have nothing good to say about this. I've never hated a conditioner as much as I hate this one. This stuff is awful. The way that it feels in my hair makes me think that if I used it for even just a short period of time I would probably end up with alot of build up. No matter how well I rinsed my hair it didn't feel conditioned, it just felt coated with product. This conditioner actually made my hair feel like it was dirty rather than soft and manageable and I don't like the scent of this at all. To me this does not smell like rosemary or mint in any way. It smells like Patchouli and I absolutely HATE the smell of patchouli. I know that scent is subjective and a matter of personal preference but the smell of patchouli makes me feel nauseated. It reminds me of something that's been collecting dust in an old trunk in your grandmothers musty basement for the last forty years. Who wants to walk around smelling like that?? Two day's after using this I washed my hair two separate times with a different shampoo and conditioner each time and I could STILL smell this in my hair. Yuck!! Not only does it stink but it doesn't conditioner your hair and I think it's over priced too. I would not buy this again. I'm either going to donate it or throw it out.

Shampoo -L'Oreal - EverPure Volume Shampoo
Jods101 4/23/2012 12:30:00 PM
I ran out of shampoo so while I was on my way home from running errands one day I stopped at a drug store to grab something quick, saw that this was on sale and thought I'd try it. I'm kind of undecided on this one. I don't hate it but I don't love it either. This is not like your typical shampoo and it does take some getting used to. It does lather a little but doesn't foam up into a rich lather like regular shampoo (which I kind of expected) that didn't really bother me that much but it didn't leave my hair feeling clean like I had hoped it would either. The scent is just ok. Not offensive but not really "pretty" either. I colored my hair several days ago and the only positive thing about this is that it didn't strip the color from my hair. There are worse shampoos out there but I don't think this is something I would buy again. This is just not for me.

Hair Color -Clairol - Nice 'n Easy Perfect 10
Jods101 4/21/2012 1:05:00 PM
I've used this several times and I really like this hair color. My natural color is medium brown with subtle red undertones. I always try to stay away from colors that have any red undertones in it because it always turns out to be way too brassy for me and I really don't like that. I had previously used a different brand of hair color to cover some older highlights. The color I used was supposed to be medium brown but my hair turned out red. I hated it. So I waited for about a month and then recolored again with Nice 'n Easy Perfect 10 in #5 Medium brown. This really does do the job in 10 minutes (which I love!!) it's very low odor, it's easy to apply and I love the color. My only complaint is that this does fade a bit over time but in my opinion ALL do it yourself hair colors fade over time so I can live with that. At first this color is a little dark but over time it gently fades and the end result is a color that matches my natural color perfectly. Which is exactly what I wanted so I'm very happy with it. I would definitely use this again. Love it.

Powder -Bare Escentuals - Bare Minerals ALL
Jods101 4/13/2012 11:28:00 PM
In my search for my HG mineral makeup I had heard alot about this foundation and thought I'd give it a try. Unfortunately I really didn't care for this. I thought the brushes were ok and this was a pretty good color match for me, at first, but after about an hour or so it oxidizes and changes colors and becomes really orange. Not pretty. I didn't think this had good staying power and I always had to do a few touch ups throughout the day. I prefer a more dewey finish but I thought that this foundation had way too much mica in it for my tastes and it was too glittery. It also settles into fine lines and it did not help to control oil either. I noticed that shortly after applying this makeup my skin would itch and then I started breaking out from it (which is probably due to the Bismuth Oxychloride) That's when I decided to do my homework on mineral makeups and the ingredients used in them. In my opinion the quality of this makeup is no better than any common drug store brand. Don't believe the hype with this one. This makeup is nothing more than cheap pore clogging ingredients and clever marketing. I'm not impressed with this at all and I would not purchase this again.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Extra Volume Collagen mascara
Jods101 12/7/2011 10:04:00 AM
I was looking for a new mascara that could help plump up my lashes a little & when I came across this & saw the word "Collagen" I got sucked in & decided to give it a try. I don't really have alot of good things to say about this other than the fact that it came with a free eyeliner. The eyeliner is great but this mascara was full of clumps from day one & it was hard to apply without getting big clumps all over my lashes. Not an attractive look. No matter how light handed I tried to be with this it always made my lashes look like I applied three or four coats with just a single coat. I l want my lashes to be separated & defined, not look cakey & over done. I just prefer a more subtle and natural look to my lashes than this mascara gave me. I really like the fact that the brush is regular bristles because I don't like the rubber brushes but I think the brush is way too big which makes it hard to apply. I also noticed throughout the day that it flaked off alot.I love the free eyeliner it came with but I hate this mascara. This one is going straight in to the trash. Very disappointed.
