Concealers -Givenchy - Mister Light

This concealer was HIGHLY recommended by several Sephora MUA. I have very dark circles and with a tan skin-tone, so it is tough to find a heavy-duty, long lasting product that is natural-looking for a woman of my age. I have tried many, many products and this was above average. It is in a pen-style applicator, which I don't really like because I can't tell how much product is left. Moreover, I certainly don't use the brush end to apply the concealer! I swipe a line onto my skin and use separate concealer brush to tap into a thin layer. Coverage is decent and natural, but does not fully eliminate my circles. It lasts quite well - but even if I just touch up the rest of my make up before going out in the evening, I always re-apply the concealer. It does not settle into lines and does not look cakey. It is an excellent product, but not HG. I actually prefer Dior Nude, yet when I mention this to the Sephora people, they all sort of wrinkle their noses. I don't know why,..

Concealers -Everyday Minerals - Multi-tasking Concealer

I like the EDM foundations very much, as well as their brushes. However, I have never been able to appreciate their powder concealers, and I have tried every possible EDM product possible. In sum, I have very dark circles and the powders cover adequately. I just don't like using a powder under my eyes - it seems to look cakey, no matter how much cream or oil I apply first.

Mascara -BeneFit Cosmetics - They're Real
rated 5 of 5

One of the best mascaras in that it does not smudge very easily so it stays put all day. I am lucky to have very long lashes naturally, and I am sometimes almost embarrassed at how long they look with this mascara. Moreover, I don't curl my lashes, but I feel that this mascara adds some curve. I don't get any flaking. Removes well with almond oil, which I use to remove all my makeup.

Primer/ Corrector -Hourglass - Veil Mineral Primer SPF 15
rated 4 of 5
JLB2005 11/26/2011 12:22:00 AM

Crazy expensive but an excellent primer relative to others I have tried. I have normal to oily, but ageing skin. I wear a mineral powder makeup. This primer really helps the mineral makeup last through the day. I'd love to stop using it because $60 is moronic, but the difference without the primer is quite striking for me. Yes, I have already purchased it several times.

Highlighters -Guerlain - Les Meteorites balls powder
rated 2 of 5
JLB2005 11/26/2011 12:16:00 AM

Bought these meteorites based on MUA reviews but am quite disappointed. I just don't see the subtle glows raved about by some others. Yes, it is pretty, smells nice and imparts a very gentle shimmer, but I see no benefit of this product whatsoever. Sorry.

Styling Products -Garnier - Curl Construct Mousse
rated 4 of 5
JLB2005 11/12/2011 9:09:00 PM

I really like this. I have fine hair that is wavy or curly in places and straight in other places. I find this mousse does help coax out the curls and waves, which then last for days. I particularly appreciate that this mousse also adds great volume at my scalp, especially if I do a brief and gentle blowdry. So volume + curl enhancing: very good for me.

Eyeliner -MAC - Fluidline Eye-Liner Gel in Blacktrack
rated 5 of 5
JLB2005 11/12/2011 8:33:00 PM

Nice basic liner. These gel formulas in pots (including Bobbi Brown) are so much easier for me to apply than a liquid liner. I usually blend it a little to make a smudgy line and it works very well. This is a nice black and it lasts quite well. It will slip off my lids because I like lots of eye cream, but coupled with Urban Decay Primer Potion, it lasts until I remove it.

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
rated 5 of 5

I never would have believed that this works as wonderfully as it does had I not tried it! This really is HG. I love lots of rich eye cream and even Bobbi Brown and Mac gel eyeliners slip right off. But this primer really anchors the liners and keeps it all beautifully in place. I have recently started wearing eye shadow more frequently to work because this primer makes it worthwhile. At the end of even a very long and harried day, my eye makeup looks fresh (except for my undereye concealer but that's another story). I have tan coloured skin and I particularly like the champagne-sparkly version - I just use it as a shadow and add a little contour shade. I have purchased this at least three times and have given it as gifts to my sisters. I also very much like the new tube format compared to that weird wand they used to have. I use a very tiny dot of primer for both lids - I apply with my fingertip - a thin smudge of a layer is sufficient.

Treatments -Phyto - Phytocyane revitalizing serum ampoules
rated 5 of 5
JLB2005 7/12/2011 10:48:00 PM

A year ago, I became alarmed by my hair loss. I tried this expensive product out of desperation. I honestly think it helps, although I also started taking vitamins (but I eat very well anyway) and the Phytocyane shampoo for women with thinning hair. Still, I noticed a considerable slowing of my hair loss during the time I was using the serum. Several months later, I suspected that the hair loss might be starting again, so I dashed out and picked up another set of ampoules. Again, the hair loss seemed to stop. Now, I can't be certain this helps as it is impossible to conduct a proper study on oneself, but if you are really worried about excessive or prolonged hair loss, give this a shot - if you have the 89$ to fork out.

Hair -Phyto - Phytocyane shampoo
rated 3 of 5
JLB2005 7/12/2011 10:38:00 PM

I have used this for about 8 months or more. I think I am on bottle #2. I never cared about shampoo and used anything until I became concerned about hair loss 12 months ago. This phytocyane was recommended by my stylist . Note that her salon does not carry this line so she was not in "conflict of interest". My hair loss has slowed, but it might not be just due to the shampoo. I am not really sure if it helped, but I like the product. A tiny bit goes a very long way.

Skincare - Face -Unlisted Brand - Lucy Minerals - Ambrosia Multi-tasking Serum
rated 5 of 5
JLB2005 7/12/2011 10:31:00 PM

I have used this for about a month. I first ordered a terrific little trial size for $5, which comes in a great little dropper-type bottle. I have enjoyed using oils on my face for years, including VERY expensive serums from Darphin, coconut oil, EEOV, etc. I was initially attracted to this product because of the price and its mixture of essential oils. I have good skin, but was blown away by the impact. I really didn't expect any change - I just wanted to try something new. But just a couple tiny drops go a long way. NOTABLE: I have been irritated for about 8 months with a persistent mild rash around my nose and mouth. I suppose it is perioral dermatitis, which usually requires oral antibiotics, but I just never got around to seeing my doctor. But within 2 days, I noticed that the rash was gone - even my family members were surprised at this. I am very skeptical with some of the "miracles" reported here on MUA, but I would urge anyone interested in oils or rich serums to give this a try. Lucy Minerals makes another oil mix called "Ambrosia" that is identical to the It does contain some emu oil. I also enjoy it and it is richer than the Multi-tasking, but nice to use before bed. (Also available in a 5$ trial size.) Because of my satisfaction with these oils, I ordered the full sizes; only $20 on sale for 2 oz, which is much cheaper than the $$$$$ Darphin Jasmine serum I have long used.

It does contain some emu oil, so vegans and some vegatarians may find this offensive. However, Ludy Minerals makes another oil mix that is identical to Ambrosia, but without the emu oil. I also enjoy it - not as rich, but also nice to use. (Also available in a 5$ trial size.) Ridiculous. Does nothing to help with odour. It's just as effective as using nothing.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Lemon Juice
rated 5 of 5
JLB2005 5/7/2011 10:22:00 AM

I don't use this all the time - because I am lucky to have even toned skin on my face, but it is a nice toner that I use from time to time. Personally, I can rub a chunk of lemon straight on my face and it does not sting very much at all. However, I really appreciate lemon juice for lightening some of the darker spots over my body than can appear, such as in the groin due to chaffing or discoloration caused by insect bites.

Tip for people who hate the burps: Sometimes the burps are less bothersome if you take the n-3 supplement before bed.
