Cleansers -Aveeno - Skin Clarifying Cleanser
rated 2 of 5
Isane 4/21/2012 5:20:00 PM

I really wanted to like this cleanser because it is supposed to be so gentle. Unfortunately it did not "clarify" my skin one bit, I actually started breaking out :( Nothing major, but I got tiny red bumps all over my face. I don't know if it's something in the cleanser that I'm reacting to or if it's just not a strong enough cleanser for me. I usually buy cleansers made for blemish-prone skin. Either way, I gave this product 2 separate trial runs for 2 weeks each, and both times the red bumps appeared. It works well for my roommate though, so I've given it to her.

Conditioner -Rusk - Sensories Smoother Leave-in Conditioner
rated 4 of 5

I saw a YouTube video a while back from someone who adored this product. I just happened to come across a HUGE bottle of it on sale for $10 so I just had to give it a try. At first I did not like the product. I thought it made my hair feel waxy, tangled and greasy. I buried it in the bathroom closet for months but then I decided to give it another shot. I've grown to like this product, but it took a while to figure out what works best for my hair. First of all, I only apply this if I'm washing my hair in the morning. I don't know why, but if I wash my hair at night, then apply this, it becomes waxy and tangled, impossible to deal with in the morning. Another thing is that I find it works better if I blow dry my hair. If I let my hair air dry, again, it get's waxy and tangled. You really only need the tiniest amount, a dime-sized squirt is more than enough. And make sure to only apply to the very ends of your hair, and only on damp hair. Otherwise it's a greasy mess. When used properly it really makes my hair soft, smooth and shiny :) So overall, I'm satisfied with the product now that I've figured out what works best for my hair type. But it definitely is a finicky product and I don't use it everyday for that reason. I only use it every few days, I use a regular conditioner the rest of the time. I'm pretty sure I will not have to repurchase for a looooooong time. I've been using the 1L for a year now and I've barely made a dent in it!

Lip Treatments -Blistex - Lip Medex
rated 4 of 5
Isane 11/10/2011 12:13:00 AM

This is not a product that I have to use very often, but when I do, it helps immensely! I sometimes get cold sores, and while this doesn't really help to "heal" them any faster, it makes my lips feel so much better. When I get a cold sore, my lips feel very dry and cracked. My usual lipbalm is just not enough during those times. A little bit of lip medex always does the trick though! It moisturizes and also soothes the itchiness from the cold sore. However I don't recommend using this everyday. I did so for a few weeks and it seemed like I kept having to apply more and more often, my lips were getting drier. For that reason, I only use it when absolutely necessary. Must be the menthol in it... This usually comes in a little jar, which is not only more economical, but a lot easier to find. I know a lot of people hate the jar, I've seen the product sold in tubes in a few stores. Anyway, great product when your lips are extremely dry and I will continue to buy it for that purpose!

Self Tanners -Yves Rocher - Bronze Nature
rated 5 of 5
Isane 3/30/2011 4:08:00 PM

I use the face lotion version of this product and I love it! I've tried so many other self-tanners and this one is by far my favourite. It does not have the typical nasty self-tanner smell; in fact, I can't smell it at all after about a minute. It works fast! My face had a beautiful tan after only 2 applications. Not orangey and with a subtle shimmer, which I really like. It is not sticky and is absorbed quickly. It isn't super moisturizing, so I apply my regular moisturizer afterwards. I use this once or twice a week depending on the season to keep my face glowing :) Best of all this lotion is affordably priced. It's often on sale for about 8-9$ so I never end up paying full price (which is about 18$ I believe). I live out west now, where there are no Yves Rocher stores. I stock up when I visit home or ask my family to ship it to me because it's the only self-tanner I will ever use!

Treatments -Avene - Diacneal Acne Treatment [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
Isane 2/7/2011 11:35:00 PM

I'm indifferent to this product. I like that it is not drying, unlike most other acne treatments I have tried. Also, it seems to help smooth my skin a bit, especially on my forehead where I tend to get tiny bumps (though I'm not sure whether or not this is acne related). However, this product does not diminish whiteheads :( I'm still breaking out on a regular basis despite applying this product nightly for the past 3 months. I must say that the breakouts are smaller in size, but for the price and the great reviews I've seen on here, I was expecting a more effective product. It's about 20$ for a small tube, which I've gone through quite quickly. I have had similar or better results with less expensive products, so I will not be repurchasing.

Shampoo -Aussie - Moist Shampoo
rated 5 of 5
Isane 2/1/2011 11:56:00 PM

Love this shampoo!! My hair isn't particularly dry, but I wanted something a little bit more moisturizing for the winter months. This is perfect, it moisturizes and makes my hair super smooth without weighting it down. Doesn't leave any residue so my hair doesn't get gunked up like with other moisturizing shampoos. It smells fantastic (coconut) and is affordable at about 3$ for a 400ml bottle.

Blush -mark - Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint - both shades
rated 5 of 5
Isane 5/20/2010 5:39:00 PM

I looooove these blushes! They're very practical because they're small and you don't have to worry about brushes like you would with a powder blush. It's super quick, just swipe it on and blend with your fingers. The new shade, "peachy" is just gorgeous! The one downside is the price for the size. The regular price for these is 7$, and they don't seem to last as long as a powder blush of the same price would. I go through these twice as fast as powder blushes so it adds up. However, they are still cheaper than comparable products by Sephora or any other brand so I suppose it's not too bad.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - Dermal Therapy - Extra Strength Body Lotion
rated 5 of 5
Isane 4/29/2010 4:49:00 AM

I'm so glad I found this product! I suffer from mild KP on my upper arms. Moisturizing with a lotion that contains AHAs and Urea seem to minimize the bumps. This product contains both at a lower cost than other lotions I have tried. It's about 10$ for 240mL which is great! It is a thick lotion but goes on smoothly and does not leave a greasy finish. It's fragrance free although I do find it has an odd smell. Nothing strong or offensive, but I do definately smell something. As soon as it's absorbed, the scent fades away. I've also used this on my hands, feet and legs and it works wonders there too. Overall I'm very pleased with this product and will repurchase over the more expensive brands :D

Moisturizers -Neutrogena - Oil Free Moisture - SPF 15
rated 2 of 5
Isane 4/29/2010 3:59:00 AM

I personally find this product too thick for daily use. It leaves my skin looking greasy and it feels tacky. It's not so bad if I apply foundation and powder over top, but there's no way I could wear this on its own. It smells strongly of sunscreen and it feels heavy like one too. Yet it only contains an SPF 15. The price is alright. I got a bonus pack with this moisturizer and a cleanser for about 11$. The packaging is nice and sturdy, I'm not worried about spills/leaks. I'll finish the bottle but I will not be repurchasing.

Moisturizers -Dove - Deep Moisture Facial Lotion SPF 15 ] ] [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
Isane 4/28/2010 2:05:00 PM

I love this moisturizer! I have combination skin and this is the only moisturizer with SPF that doesn't make my face look like an oil slick. Sunscreens just don't seem to agree with my face and I always start breaking out. Luckily I found this moisturizer and its just perfect for my skin. It hydrates it and has the added SPF to protect my face, but leaves my skin looking soft and fresh. It actually leaves my skin more matte than almost any other moisturizer yet it never feels tight. It has a subtle scent which does not bother me at all. When I purchased this, I thought the bottle was a pump but it's actually a squeeze bottle. This makes it really handy to travel with so I always have it in my bag. Best of all its super cheap! I will buy this product over and over again :D Apparently this product was discontinued in the US a while ago and I can't understand for the life of me why. It's such a great moisturizer. Luckily, it's still widely available here in Canada. I actually just bought a new bottle the other day and I had no problems finding it, they had tons on the shelves. But now I'm starting to think I should probably stock up just in case! Please oh please don't discontinue this product here too!!

Cleansers -Bioderma - Sebium Purifying Foaming Gel
rated 3 of 5
Isane 4/25/2010 3:45:00 PM

This product is supposed to be soap free and gentle, while still preventing breakouts. Unfortunately this did nothing for my skin. It didn't make my breakouts worse but it certainly didn't help either. I still got my occasional breakouts and this didnt help them clear any faster. It is a little pricier than my usual cleansers so I will not be repurshasing as it does nothing special for me.

Moisturizers -Desert Essence - Jojoba Oil - 100% pure
rated 5 of 5
Isane 4/24/2010 3:27:00 AM

At first I was a little hesitant about putting oil on my face, especially because my T zone often get's quite oily. But after reading so many positive reviews I figured I'd give it a try, and I'm so glad I did! Jojoba oil is very moisturizing and absorbs nicely. Unfortunately, I can only use this product at night because it's just a little too heavy for daytime wear. But I apply this before bed every night and wake up with beautifully soft skin! It's so much cheaper than all those other night time creams and while the bottle is small, it lasts forever. All I need is 1 or 2 drops and I'm all set. Love that I'm not putting a bunch of chemicals on my face. Plus, if you're sensitive to fragrances, you will appreciate the fact that it's pretty much odourless :) The one downside is that the bottle is soooo messy. I can't travel with it because it leaks. Everytime I open the bottle it get's everywhere. I wish it came in a dropper bottle or something.

Treatments (Eye) -Nivea - Anti-Shadow Eye Creme
rated 4 of 5
Isane 4/24/2010 12:13:00 AM

This product is great for young skin. I've only started using eye cream recently and so far this has been my favourite. I don't have any major issues in the eye area so I can only comment on its effectiveness as a moisturizer. It is a light cream that absorbs quickly, and doesn't look greasy at all. It works great under makeup and it keeps my eye area well hydrated. You can often find it on sale so it's a great buy. I don't know that this cream would be beneficial for more mature skin as it's quite light and has no special ingredients, but it works well for me!

Eye Makeup Remover -Annabelle - Eye Makeup Remover Pads
rated 2 of 5
Isane 4/22/2010 2:57:00 PM

I purchased the waterproof makeup version so it is very oily. It did a decent job of removing my makeup but it left such a gross oily mess... All it is is mineral oil and although it says unfragranced it smells horrible. Next time I'll try the oil-free version.

Primer/ Corrector -Quo - Foundation Primer
rated 4 of 5
Isane 4/22/2010 6:08:00 AM

Pretty good primer, comparable to the Smashbox version but much cheaper. It makes my skin so smooth! Although I have to say, I don't use primers much with my foundation... Applying them is an extra step and they just don't seem to do much for me when wearing them with foundation. What I do like to do is wear it alone. When I'm having decent skin days and don't need foundation, I like to apply the primer only. It cuts down on the shine and makes my skin look even and soft. It gives it a really nice look! Overall, I would probably repurchase this product, but not for its intended purpose as a foundation primer...
