Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Kiera Mai - Amour de Mai

This is an ordinary fruity scent that you'd find in shampoos, shower gels, etc. I detect pear in the mishmash although this note isn't in the description. Over-priced for a generic fragrance.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Le Jardin Retrouvé Eau de Cuir de Russie

Aggressively masculine scent of leather and pepper. On a man, it would make me think he was a polo player. I do not smell the florals mentioned in the description.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Laura Tonatto - Plaisir
rated 5 of 5

Plaisir is the gourmand cousin of Nanadebary Bronze. Both have cinnamon deliciousness and a base of vanilla, amber and light musk. Plaisir is the pleasantly plump member of the family. It is creamy, luscious and sweet without being sugary. I don’t smell the grapefruit, but I do get a yummy lemon note. This is a scent that will make people come closer to a deeper sniff. Try this if you like gourmand comfort scents along the lines of Lea St. Barth and Blu Mediterraneo Mandorlo di Sicilia.

Fragrances -Bond No.9 - Chelsea Flowers
rated 2 of 5
IrisLA 9/20/2005 12:43:00 PM

Smells similar to Keiko Mecheri Grenades (which I own). Chelsea is sweeter and more cloying. It smells like a generic fruity-floral without the distinctiveness of Grenades' crispness and soft rose/musk drydown. Not worth the high price. For the same amount of money, you can buy two bottles of dept store scents or Grenades.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - French West Indies- Pannonica
rated 4 of 5
IrisLA 7/23/2005 11:57:00 AM

"A light citrus head, the velvety softness of peach coupled with other red fruits, wraps up the rich floral heart, primarily dominated by rose and violet iris. A woody base of cedarwood and sandalwood is enhanced by the warmth of vanilla and musk." Pannonica is a beautifully balanced soft, iris/wood/vanilla composition. It starts off a little sharp and sweet. There's a hint of a fruity accord that fades quickly. Then it becomes dry iris without metallic harshness on me. The rose is barely detectable. The woody drydown is utterly charming and cuddly. It is close to the skin and comforting. Pannonica comes in a whopping 4 oz bottle from BeautyHabit. A winner from French West Indies!

Fragrances -Valentino - Very Valentino
rated 2 of 5
IrisLA 6/28/2005 10:47:00 AM

A generic light, pretty scent that is typical of department store florals such as Vera Wang. It’s sweet and frothy like a Valentino chiffon ball gown. It lacks depth and the vanilla is the barest whisper on me. Not my cup of tea.

Lipstick -Stila - Sport Clear Color
rated 4 of 5
IrisLA 6/23/2005 2:05:00 PM

I have this in Red, and it's a true sheer red. Pros: compact case; moisturizing; buildable color; decent SPF. Cons: in new packaging you can't see how much product is left; not easy to retract lipstick back into case. It has a noticeable chocolate flavor, so if you don't like chocolate, don't buy this. Overall, I think this is a good product although Almay makes a similar tinted balm/lipstick for much less.

Fragrances -Frederic Malle - Lys Mediterranee
rated 4 of 5
IrisLA 6/20/2005 11:49:00 AM

A simply gorgeous pure lily. It smells like real flowers, not a perfume impression of flowers. The only reason I don’t award this five lippies is because I find linear soliflores-- no matter how pretty--a little boring after a while. I will stick with SL Un Lys and Diorissimo for my lily fix.

Fragrances -Yosh - Yosh Signature Collection - Minnie Wilde Magic
rated 4 of 5
IrisLA 5/31/2005 6:54:00 PM

At first Magic comes across as a typical fruity, sweet scent with a grapefruit top note. When it warms up the tuberose and tiger lily comes out and it’s just wonderful. There’s a bit of spice in the florals. It’s tropical and lush but still subtle and close to the skin.. The drydown is soft, just-sweet-enough vanilla. The whole effect is feminine and flirty without being loud.

Fragrances -Gucci - Envy
rated 4 of 5
IrisLA 5/21/2005 11:17:00 AM

This review is for parfum. I received a small vial as a swap extra (thanks, ellizam!) and I was surprised by how much I like this department store scent. It’s fresh and green without sharpness. The floral notes are well blended, and I don’t get the oiliness from magnolia that’s mentioned in other reviews. Envy isn’t a statement scent, but who wants to make a statement all the time? It’s perfect for hot summer days with just a dab to the pulse points for a pleasant, fresh-from-the-shower fragrance. Parfum minis can be had on eBay for a song.

Fragrances -Lorenzo Villoresi - Teint de Neige
rated 4 of 5
IrisLA 5/14/2005 11:15:00 AM

The comment below about Teint being one for “bombshells in negligées and fluffy maribou slippers” says it all. This is a mature ultra-feminine and powdery scent that’s not overly sweet or cloying. There is a soft almondy note that gives it a soothing quality. Teint doesn’t suit my casual personal style, but I think it’s a gorgeous fragrance.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - miller et bertaux 1 parfum trouve for you
rated 5 of 5
IrisLA 4/18/2005 12:29:00 PM

This is a very sheer, soft scent. On me, the spices stay in the background. They add depth to the fragrance without overwhelming the lovely floral woodsy blend. I smell more cedar than sandalwood, but I think that’s because the former tends to be a little sharper than the latter. Overall, a beautifully composed scent. Notes: white lily, black iris, cedar, cumin, chutney, sandalwood and musk.

Fragrances -Yosh - U4EAH
rated 3 of 5
IrisLA 3/31/2005 11:21:00 AM

A very wearable, bright pear/apple scent that's delightful and uplifting. However, it doesn't smell like an ultra expensive fragrance. It smells like a fruity scent you can pick up at a mall store. Granted, the mall scents are synthetic smelling while U4 is fresh and luscious. Still, I can't see paying $130 for this.

Fragrances -Sage Machado - Turquoise
rated 3 of 5
IrisLA 3/11/2005 11:30:00 AM

Turquoise is something I would wear if I liked marine scents. It doesn’t have the dreaded ozone note that other marine scents have. I really enjoy the top notes of grapefruit and berries. The slightly salty drydown is warmed by the sandalwood and musk. This is the most wearable beach fragrance I’ve tried.

Fragrances -Penhaligon's - Violetta
rated 3 of 5
IrisLA 2/24/2005 5:20:00 PM

The first 30 minutes is sharp and in-your-face violets. Then it softens considerably. Violetta is too dark and brooding for me. I like my violet scents daintier and more feminine. I will use up my Violetta decant by layering it under L’Artisan Verte Violette. It works well to add depth to Verte.
