Lip Treatments -eos - Smooth Sphere Organic Lip Balm in Honeysuckle Honeydew
IreneP 3/6/2012 9:17:00 PM
I own every flavor of the EOS lip balms, and the honeydew one is one of my favorites in terms of scent. I absolutely love the packaging and the shape of the lip balm. The ball lets you swipe the product over both lips at the same time. What would make the packaging even more convenient is if they kept the same shape but made it into a flip top so that you don't have to take that extra step to unscrew/screw the top and worry about dropping it. As much as I love the sheer novelty of EOS lip balms, it really doesn't do a great job in moisturizing very dry lips. I find myself having to reapply a lot. But I keep using these things just because they're so darn cute and smell so darn good. I really hope the company will consider making improvements.

Fragrances -Christian Dior - Addict To Life
IreneP 3/6/2012 4:48:00 AM
I've been trying to find a signature scent for years but have had the worst luck. I got a "premium sample" from Sephora, and like another reviewer said, it was extremely difficult trying to open the damn thing! I know the full size bottle is in a convenient spray form, but Dior should really have thought twice about making the sample so difficult to try. Otherwise, I think this scent is lovely, and it doesn't make me feel sick after awhile like a lot of other perfumes do. I'm not very good at describing perfumes, but there was just something comforting about this one. It kind of reminded me of my mom, but in a good way. My husband thinks it's "OK" and "nice," but that's not good enough for me! I would love to find a scent that I can't get enough of and one that he adores. While the search continues, I still think this is a pretty and "safe" scent for everyday.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter in Pink Truffle
IreneP 3/6/2012 4:37:00 AM
I bought quite a few of the Revlon lip butters, and Pink Truffle is my favorite so far. Some of the other colors have glitter in them, and I just can't stand that gritty feel. I love how smooth and silky Pink Truffle is. It's a very pretty, neutral, everyday color when you want just a hint of color as opposed to something that screams "look at me!" In other words, good for the conservative workplace. The product doesn't last very long on me, so I have to reapply every hour or so. But it's not expensive, so I don't mind it too much. Also, a general comment about all the lip butters is that the colors are buildable, so that's a plus.

Shampoo -Organix - Coconut Milk Shampoo
IreneP 3/6/2012 4:09:00 AM
It seems like people either hate or love this product, and I'm in the former group. I bought two bottles of the coconut shampoo and two of the conditioner at ULTA because (1) it was on sale at ULTA, (2) the scent reminded me of my Hawaiian vacations, and (3) it's sulfate-free. I was really disappointed after using it a few days. It made my hair feel very very dry, course, and hard to style. At first I wondered if the water in my shower had somehow become hard. But I used my husband's shampoo and conditioner one night, and my hair went back to feeling soft and smooth. That's when I knew the problem lay with Organix. Other reviewers have commented on how it has actually moisturized their hair, so I guess it really depends on the individual. For me, it just didn't work at all. And there I was stuck with all this product, and it seemed like a waste to throw it out. So I just bit the bullet and kept using it. I had to use tons of hair serum afterwards to soften it, thought. I'm so thrilled that I'm down to half a bottle of my last set!

Fragrances -Philosophy - Falling in Love
IreneP 7/31/2011 5:52:00 AM
Though some women in my age group don't think it's age-appropriate, I really like this scent. It reminds me of cotton candy, carnivals, and spring days. I tried the spray fragrance in the store (ULTA) and liked it a lot but decided to buy the eau de parfum which does tend to last longer. I plan to use it as a day scent since it is light and subtle and IMO, makes me smell fresh and clean. I would probably use something else for an evening date. The reason why I'm not giving it more stars is because my husband is not crazy about it. He thinks it smells too sweet. Since I work during the day, that's another reason to use it during the day - when I'm not around the husband. UPDATE: I initially gave this scent a rating of 3 but have changed it to a 1. After using it for about a week, I got really really sick of the smell. Obviously not a good sign. I did get some compliments, but I personally couldn't stand it after awhile. It just became sickly sweet to me. My husband felt the same way.

Concealers -Dermablend - Cover Creme - Cream
IreneP 7/31/2011 4:35:00 AM
I bought the Dermablend cover creme in Warm Ivory after watching a bunch of youtube videos. On those videos, the product really seemed to work, so I was excited to try it. I bought the Dermablend cover creme, Quick-Fix concealer in Ivory, and the setting powder. I experimented with these products several days in a row and was very disappointed. First off, the cover creme settles into the pores (nose and surrounding area) in a very obvious and unattractive way. And it did NOT conceal my dark age spots on my cheeks no matter how many layers I applied. If this product can supposedly conceal tattoos, how come it can't conceal my age spots? It will minimize the dark spots by about 40-50%, but since it made the rest of my face look unnatural (especially the way it settled into my pores), that is unacceptable to me. The frustrating search continues...

Loose Powders -Dermablend - Setting Powder (loose & pressed)
IreneP 7/31/2011 4:21:00 AM
While I'm not crazy about all the other Dermablend products, I really like the Dermablend setting powder. After using a different brand of foundation, I'll dust on this setting powder, and it has a lot of lasting power. It helps keep shine at bay, and I find that I no longer have to reapply my makeup during the day. I just use oil blotting paper a few times during the day to keep the shine away. I used to use the blotting paper constantly, but with this setting powder I don't have to use as many.

Liquid -Clinique - Even Better Makeup SPF 15
IreneP 6/27/2011 10:15:00 PM
I envy those of you who have found the perfect foundation. I have very problematic skin: uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, large pores, etc. It's a hot mess. With all the raves that Clinique gets and the promises of the Even Better liine, I went to the counter at Macy's and asked the salesperson to help me find a concealer and foundation. She found a decent color match for me, but the concealer and foundation barely cover any of my flaws. If you have serious age spots like me, don't bother. It will NOT give you the coverage you need, even after trying to build with several layers. After applying, my skin always appeared oily/shiny. The salesperson had recommended the Perfectly Real Compact Makeup to brush on over the Even Better liquid foundation. It helped reduce the shine, but it didn't have any lasting power on my skin. I'm writing this update on 7/31/11: I've now tried a number of different foundations, and I'm finding that even though Clinique's Even Better foundation isn't great, it's sure a lot better than drugstore brands, as well as higher-end brands. Though it still doesn't cover as many as my flaws as I'd like, I found that as long as I use Dermablend setting powder to set the makeup, it stays on most of the day. Unlike other foundations, this one doesn't settle into and emphasize my pores.

Lip Treatments -Neutrogena - Norwegian Formula Lip Moisturizer SPF 15
IreneP 5/17/2010 2:47:00 AM
This is my absolute favorite lip moisturizer! I have very sensitive lip skin and am allergic to a lot of similar products out there (e.g., Chapstick). My lips will get itchy and blistery with the wrong product, so I try out new lip moisturizers with extreme caution. This Neutrogena lip moisturizer is very gentle. I like to use it under lipstick and as a moisturizer at night. I would definitely recommend this for people with sensitive lip skin like me.

Treatments (Eye) -L'Oreal - Lash Boosting Serum
IreneP 5/17/2010 2:36:00 AM
Like reviewer skimbo, I'm Asian and have very short, straight, and sparse lashes. Not wanting to spend $$$ on Latisse, I tried out this L'Oreal serum and could NOT believe the great results! I use it at night before bed, and my lashes were noticeably longer within a week. They're still on the sparse side, but of the lashes I do have, they are definitely longer. I admit I don't use it every single night, but my lashes are still longer. For this kind of result, the price is right!

Treatments -Clinique - Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector
IreneP 1/1/2010 6:22:00 PM
I've been using this product, along with the "matching" sunscreen, for about 2 months, and I'm sad to say it didn't work for me. And yes, I've been using as directed (twice per day with the Even Better sunscreen. I have pale, acne-free skin with 3 age spots around my upper cheeks, and I've used just about every "dark spot minimizing" product on the market, including prescription creams. Nothing has worked. I think I will probably need to get some laser work to get rid of these spots because no serum or cream has come even close to fading them. This serum makes my skin texture feel really soft and smooth, which is a plus, but I bought it soley for the claim that it fades away dark spots and evens out skin tone. I do believe that it's worked for some people, and I really envy them! But for people with pretty dark, stubborn age spots (and those like me who have tried everything on the market), save your $40!
