Revlon uses ANIMAL TESTING. This was a love hate relationship. I have a bottle of the new formula. Building coverage is difficult; the very tacky formula picks itself up where applied. Once you get an even coverage, it stays well set with a light dusting of powder. It stayed better for me than others and I et greasy within 2hrs of application, 1 if I am working. This actually lasted. I will be throwing the remainder of the bottle as the formula isnt worth it-and vivisection is a dealbreaker. I am sorry that I paid into profits which support cruelty. I should have done my research.
Masks -Pur Minerals - Mineral Mudd Masque with Pascalite
IndustryKoda 3/19/2013 3:57:00 PM
I tried this as a sample initially and was completely wowed. 3 applications from a sample sized pot cleared the large pores on my nose of ALL oil and stubborn blackheads. Unlike most products which claim to minimize pores and the appearance thereof, this mask actually did. It is gross though-you can see the oil from the pores once it has dried. On me, I have the even brown mud color-then darker spots where my pores are. It takes very little product. Cautions: Sensitive skin or those using acne products: start with an application time of 2-3 minutes and work up. Work quickly to spread as it dries down very fast.
Treatments -Pur Minerals - Pur Minerals See No More pore refining serum
IndustryKoda 3/14/2013 9:46:00 PM
Not even Pur reps like this-and if you read the ingredients, you'll see why. Why would you use alcohol to fix large pores when it will only upset the balance between dehydration and irritation?
After trying this in the store (stored right under bright fluorescent lighting, tester who knows how old) I still LOVED the fragrance. Once I received a fresh sealed, properly stored bottle as a gift from my boyfriend, I have my "signature" scent. I run very hot and usually can not be bothered with wearing perfume as they do not last long. La Petite Robe Noir lasts all day and night for me with a light application and I can still enjoy it! The black cherry and smoky tea stands out most for me, and it is refreshing to have a gourmet scent which is not vanilla or musk based, nor overly sweet. All the right notes for me. I prefer to buy the $10 "sample" jars to ensure a fresh bottle as opposed to having a full sized bottle sit on my vanity for a long time. EDIT: I should also mention that I am a big tea drinker-and I dont mean the floor sweepings one expects to find at the grocery store. The scent was on par with estate teas I have drunk from India.
Moisturizers -Cosmedicine - Medi-Matte Oil Control Lotion
IndustryKoda 12/9/2012 2:33:00 PM
TERRIBLE product. Does not live up to the claims, or the clinical studies (which the participants are very carefully selected for anyway) I saw no long term results. I saw no immediate results. Medi Matte does not dry but remains unappealingly tacky. I am usually very greasy to start with and this did not help at all. my makeup did not last 3 hours.
Powder -Rimmel - Stay Matte Pressed Powder - Transparent 001
IndustryKoda 11/6/2012 6:03:00 PM
Contains talc. It did not produce a lasting matte finish and gets heavy/cakey quickly and easily. Add to that the breakouts, irritation, and clogged pores, and it was a solid no.
I am a recent convert to EOS lip balm (spheres). I like the packaging and natural application. The formula is ultra moisturizing and fixes dry, chapped, cracking, and peeling lips immediately.
Mascara -Besame - Gingerbread 1930's Waterproof Mascara
IndustryKoda 9/19/2012 3:14:00 PM
The one I have is simply "1930s Mascara". I like that there are only 7 ingredients in this. This is not meant as a volume or thickening mascara-it is based on vintage mascara. I enjoy the definition and separation that the formula provides.
Highlighters -Smashbox - Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion
IndustryKoda 9/19/2012 3:11:00 PM
Shade: Diffuse. The pump is very touchy resulting in wasted product if not careful. Even if you are careful, it happens. Hopefully Smashbox will fix this. I use this under my makeup for highlighting. I like that it is thin for blending.
Powder -Pur Minerals - 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup (new formula)
IndustryKoda 9/19/2012 3:07:00 PM
Does not irritate my skin, good coverage, nice range of shades. Light is my shade for base and I currently use Golden Beige for my contouring. I love that it is a compact-no mess or long rituals with application as with the very fussy BareMinerals (Tap, Swirl, Buff, repeat etc) Made in the USA. *EDIT: I have now tried the original and new formulas. The Original formula is superior. New has more ingredients, and it isnt an improvement. The skin loving ingredients are too much for my skin. If you like the 4 in 1 pressed powder, send Pur Minerals feedback so they keep it-right now, they are unsure of whether or not they will keep it available.
Drys quickly; Good price point for drugstore foundation; Easily mixed with spatula. However, the cons: Oxidizes (orange/darker than initial shade-more or less noticeable depending on your skin; Caused breakouts; Staying power/transfers; Need to clean spatula if applying directly to skin to avoid contamination; If not careful, neck of bottle gets messy/cap stained.
Pressed Powders -Hard Candy - Welcome Matte Mattifying Powder
IndustryKoda 9/11/2012 2:48:00 PM
Will cake and does not blend. Press and roll/rock back and forth to apply for best results. No staying power-for use throughout day, you would need to reapply, which would cause cakiness. Best bet? Set makeup or apply to bare face in the morning and use blotting papers to wick away excess oil. Contains talc, if that is a concern. However, most drugstore brands use talc for oil absorption.
Palettes -Unlisted Brand - BH Cosmetics - 120 Color Palette 1st Edition
IndustryKoda 9/7/2012 11:44:00 PM
I bought this without any branding or name off of ebay for $0.01 (plus SH from China) when I was first building my makeup supply. The shadows certainly need a primer as they will not stick without it. It is worth it though. Blend of shimmers and mattes. Color payoff decent. Layering is difficult with certain shades. Packaging is basic, utilitarian, and sensible. It could benefit from a better clasp and padding/space between the two. It will recycled once im done with the shadows-its perfect for depotting/pressing into.
The brush needs to be improved. It is useless and a waste to apply with the enclosed brush. The smell is easily and clearly explained if one reads the ingredients-this mascara is acrylic based. I quite liked it; it dried quickly and applied easily. My tube was not runny at all. I always have to curl my lashes regardless of mascara formula, and this one kept the curl quite well. I liked that it did not clump* assuming you use another brush. Easily washed off without a remover needed.
I really wanted this to work. I wanted to like it. The key is having normal/dry skin, and applying it really thinly. There is no consistency to overall performance; Some days it does ok, and others, it creases terribly. It does enhance the color payoff. It simply doesnt work as a primer.
