Mascara -Max Factor - Lash Extension Effect
Happy_go_lucky 7/23/2011 8:55:00 AM
This mascara is a great lengthening mascara with absolutely no thickness. I applied to one eye only to start with and there is a noticeable difference in length. As it only lengthens, it looks very natural on. It applies easily with a thin, long brush. The straight brush took me a little while to get use to but it does the job. I would assume that for most people, this mascara's lack of thickness makes it a deal breaker, but this mascara is absolutely perfect for lower lashes. There's no clumping and is ideal for those like me with light lashes but want them to look natural. I'll definitely be keeping this on hand for my lower lashes.

Mascara -Lancome - Hypnose Drama
Happy_go_lucky 7/18/2011 9:12:00 PM
I quite like Lancome Hypnose so on a whim, I'd thought I'd give the Drama version a try. This mascara is horrible. I can't remember the last time I used such a terrible mascara, maybe during high school when I could only afford the cheapest stuff. This mascara is extremely clumpy and it flakes like you would not believe. I don't think I've ever had a mascara with such bad flaking. I felt like Barbara Cartland wearing this stuff, glued together lashes and black dirt under my eyes. I rarely throw makeup away, preferring to keep it on hand just in case but this stuff went straight in the bin.

Lip Treatments -Dermalogica - Climate Control Lip Treatment
Happy_go_lucky 2/10/2010 8:06:00 PM
I love this lip balm. Other reviewers commented that this balm smells horrible but I love the smell - it has just the lightest hint of lavender and is tasteless. I don't use lip balm everyday as I generally wear lipstick and/or gloss but when my lips are chapped, this balm is lovely and nourishing and gets them back to normal fast. The only negative is the price - in Australian beauticians it sells for $22, about quadruple what a standard chapstick at a chemist costs.

Moisturizers -Dermalogica - Intensive Moisture Balance
Happy_go_lucky 9/21/2009 12:31:00 PM
This is a great moisturiser for those with dry skin. It is very soothing and for that reason is great to apply after using a scrub or chemical exfoliant. There is nothing amazing in this product and you could probably find as good as moisturiser from one of the cheaper brands at the chemist. I apply a hazelnut size amount every second day. I do find it a bit too greasy to wear under makeup. However, as I've had great results with the majority of Dermalogica products, I'll continue to buy.

Moisturizers -Dermalogica - Skin Smoothing Cream
Happy_go_lucky 9/21/2009 12:25:00 PM
Recently I decided to upgrade my skincare regime from the supermarket brands that I'd been using for years. I started with four Dermalogica products; Special Cleansing Gel, Skin Prep Scrub, Multi-active Toner and Skin Smoothing Cream. This moisturiser is a good product. It's not amazing but it's not terrible either. It kept my skin moisturised and wasn't greasy. While my skin was definitely softer and smoother after using, it was only a small improvement. If you're looking a big improvement to treat congestion, I'd definitely recommend the Dermalogica Skin Renewal Booster and Gentle Cream Exfoliant. This product is more of a maintenance product for people whose skin is already is great condition and are looking for a gentle renewal product.

Treatments -Dermalogica - Gentle Cream Exfoliant
Happy_go_lucky 9/21/2009 12:11:00 PM
Recently I decided to upgrade my skincare regime from the supermarket brands that I'd been using for years. I started with four Dermalogica products; Special Cleansing Gel, Skin Prep Scrub, Multi-active Toner and Skin Smoothing Cream. After a month of positive results with the original products, I purchased and started to use some of the speciality Dermalogica products. Awhile back I tried a sample of this exfoliant. Unfortunately I didn't realise it was a chemical exfoliant masque and instead I applied like a mechanical scrub. Once I read the great reviews on MUA, I decided to give it another go. This scrub leaves my skin baby soft and smooth. The only other time I can remember my skin feeling this nice is after a professional facial. I recommend this product if you suffer congestion or blackheads. It may cause some breakouts in the beginning but I believe that's your skin purging what's already under the surface. It can be a little drying so make sure you follow with a creamy moisturiser afterwards. This product works best if you team it with a mechanical scrub to slough off the top layers. I'll continue to use this product. I just wish I had more opportunities to lay down with my feet up and let it do its magic.

Skincare - Face -Dermalogica - Skin Renewal Booster
Happy_go_lucky 9/21/2009 12:02:00 PM
Recently I decided to upgrade my skincare regime from the supermarket brands that I'd been using for years. I started with four Dermalogica products; Special Cleansing Gel, Skin Prep Scrub, Multi-active Toner and Skin Smoothing Cream. After a month of positive results with the original products, I purchased and started to use some of the speciality Dermalogica products. Firstly, this booster has been fantastic. My skin has always been in great shape, the only low point has been the small, blind spots of congestion I have on my chin. I've tried a number of scrubs and AHAs/BHAs including Paula's Choice and have only had a small level of success. Within a month of applying the Skin Renewal Booster before bed, there was a noticeable reduction in the congestion on my chin. I did initially suffer a few breakouts, but they cleared and heeled very quickly. After two months of daily use, almost all my congestion is gone. I'm very happy with this product. My skin feels noticeably smoother and haven't experienced any dryness. I recommend you apply this product at night to refreshly cleansed skin. To make it spread further, apply to moist skin (use a toner) and don't follow with a moisturiser unless your skin is very dry. Because of the gel nature, your skin may feel a little tight but it the morning it won't feel dry. The gel seems to coat the skin locking in moisture. For congested skin, apply every night. For sensitive skin or once your congestion has cleared up, apply every second day.

Scrubs -Dermalogica - Skin Prep Scrub

Recently I decided to upgrade my skincare regime from the supermarket brands that I'd been using for years. I started with four Dermalogica products; Special Cleansing Gel, Skin Prep Scrub, Multi-active Toner and Skin Smoothing Cream. Skin prep scrub is a fairly standard mechanical scrub. It is a bit too rough for my liking but it does leave my skin revived. After using, I find my skin feels quite dry and tight and I'll always follow with toner and moisturiser. I believe there is plenty of similar products that will do as good a job available at the supermarket for a lot less. I won't rebuy this particular scrub but I will consider trying another Dermalogica scrub next time.

Toners -Dermalogica - Multi-active Toner
Happy_go_lucky 9/21/2009 11:38:00 AM
Recently I decided to upgrade my skincare regime from the supermarket brands that I'd been using for years. I started with four Dermalogica products; Special Cleansing Gel, Skin Prep Scrub, Multi-active Toner and Skin Smoothing Cream. Frankly, I don't think a toner is really necessary. They hark back to when the standard cleanser was cold cream and an astringent was needed to remove the greasy residue. I really sit on the fence with this product. It does no harm but on the other hand, it doesn't produce a noticeable improvement. The spray dispenser is very good. The bottle is quite large and I'm sure will last me a long time, probably 12+ months. To make it easier to use, I keep a travel sized spritzer topped up instead. The main benefit I see from using a toner is that because your skin is moist, you need to use less moisturiser as the cream spread further. I'll probably repurchase when this bottle eventually runs out.

Cleansers -Dermalogica - Special Cleansing Gel
Happy_go_lucky 9/21/2009 11:26:00 AM
Recently I decided to upgrade my skincare regime from the supermarket brands that I'd been using for years. I started with four Dermalogica products; Special Cleansing Gel, Skin Prep Scrub, Multi-active Toner and Skin Smoothing Cream. I really liked this cleanser. The cleanser is gentle but strong enough to remove makeup (I do remove my mascara first with a baby wipe and wear washable foundation). It produces a nice lather and I don't suffer any dryness or tightness of skin after using. It's easy to dispense a small amount from the bottle. It's reasonably economically; a little goes a long way and using twice a day, a 250ml bottle lasted me 3 months.

Liquid -MAC - Select Tint SPF 15 ] [DISCONTINUED]
Happy_go_lucky 10/30/2008 2:55:00 AM
This is my new fav foundation. It provides natural, sheer coverage. Thankfully my skin is in good condition and I only need foundation to even my skintone. I originally purchased this as a 'weekend, daytime' foundation however the coverage was much better than I expected for a tinted moisturiser. Combined with a light dusting of the MAC blotting powder, I ended up wearing this everyday, to the office. The inclusion of SPF is great. At first, I did get a tingling which I believe is due to the sunscreen however the tingling stopped after a couple of weeks. In the past, foundations with sunscreen have often caused me to breakout however I've had no problems with this one (but they may be cause I'm getting older and my skin is settling down). I think it's really good value for a quality foundation as the bottle is 50ml compared to the usual 30ml and apply a similar amount to a normal foundation.

Mascara -Bourjois - Talons Aguilles
Happy_go_lucky 7/17/2007 1:53:00 AM
This mascara does exactly what it claims, lengthens and curls. After apply one coat, it made a noticeable difference to my lashes. There was no clumping. This product doesn't any thickness making it ideal for a light application on lower lashes. It produces a natural-yet-better appearance. This is my new favourite daytime mascara. For night, I prefer something a bit more dramatic with more volume. This product does require makeup remover to take off, cleanser is not enough, otherwise you will be left with panda eyes. Edited: in the end, I found this mascara too hard to remove properly. I'd remove at night using remover and a cleanser. However, after cleansing in the morning, I'd find new smurges under my lower lashes. It was too much effort for a product I use everyday so it got given the flick.

Styling Products -TiGi - Catwalk Curls Rock Curl Amplifier
Happy_go_lucky 1/4/2007 7:21:00 PM
Obviously from the title of the product, it is designed for curly styles however I have had great success with it for my short, fine hair. I have a short cut and with my fine, straight hair find it difficult to achieve a texturised look. In the past, regardless of how 'messily' I blow dried my hair, I would end up with a smooth, straight look. Curl Amplifier has been great and is wonderful for adding texture to my cut. The bottle recommends using 1-2 pumps but this product goes a long way and with short hair I only use half a pump (about a hazelnut size blob). The bizzare thing about this product is when you apply it to wet hair and work it through, even with a tiny amount, it feels very sticky and as if you have applied too much. But, once you blow dry, the stickiness goes away and there is no trace of 'crunchiness'.

Moisturizers -Paula's Choice - Skin Recovery Replenishing Moisturizer
Happy_go_lucky 1/4/2007 7:07:00 PM
I really love Paula's Choice products and have had alot of success with them. However, the smell of this moisturiser is TERRIBLE and turned me right off. Now, I know that fragrances are problematic and all Paula's Choice products are fragrance free. But this moisturiser smells like eggs and the smell doesn't fade. I applied the moisturiser in the morning to wear underneath my foundation. For the rest of the day, I would catch whiffs of the eggy smell. I used it a number of times hoping that I would get use to the smell but to no avail. I really can't comment on the long term effects of this product. The moisturiser applied nicely. It comes in a pump action bottle which is hygenic and in helpful is using minimal product.

Makeup Brushes -Stila - #8 Powder Brush
Happy_go_lucky 11/27/2006 4:24:00 AM
This brush is a bit different to most powder brushes as it is designed to be used in a sweeping motion rather than using the surface of the bristles. However, I really like it. I prefer to use a brush with loose powder than a puff and this shape really works. The bristles are lovely and soft. However, because of the sweeping motion, it tends to pick up the foundation already applied to your skin and I wash the brush fairly regularly (every 2-4 weeks). The teardrop shape is great for applying powder under your eyelids.
