Lip Treatments -Fresh - Sugar Rose Lip Treatment SPF 15
HRubin 1/26/2012 7:53:00 PM
Packaging: A very pretty twist-up tube of balm with a cap that screws on in the opposite direction. Very sturdy, but elegant. Product: A sheer, glossy pink balm that hydrates my dry, chapped lips. The color is rosy and warm. This is a very hydrating balm with a deserved reputation. Price: A little much for lip balm. I'm such a sucker for the color and results that I'll pay for it anyway
Eye Shadow -Clinique - Color Surge Duo in Lilac Truffle

I got this in a sample along with Stay Matte shadow in slate. Packaging: Sensible with a mirror and applicator. sturdy enough. Product: A Powdery eyeshadow with sheer (but build-able) shimmery color. The duo comes with a light lavender shade that is so sheer it almost looks silvery applied, and a brown shade that has a bit more pigment. Together they look lovely and natural. If you don't rub your eyes, they last all day (10-12 hours) without primer. I just wish the shadows were a little more velvety, the way shiseido eyeshadows are. They seem a little too sheer and powdery for a prestige brand. Price: Can't comment, didn't buy the full size.
Mascara -Christian Dior - DiorShow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum

I've always wanted doll-like lashes, but am not skilled enough to reliably apply false lashes without spending hours I don't have. With this primer and my HG mascara (scandal queen fairy drops) my eyelashes are super huge; almost as long as my boyfriend's :( The Package: Pretty big, which makes me feel better about the $28 price tag. The wand is long with lots of thin plastic combs (not bristles). The Product: A white primer that lengthens, curls, and makes my lashes look like falsies. While I wish the primer wasn't white, it makes it pretty obvious if you miss a spot on your lashes, which is good, i guess. It doesn't smudge, but then again you coat the primer in mascara, and my mascara is smudge proof. When I take this off though, my lashes feel soft and moisturized. I'm not sure if it truly does lengthen the lashes over time, but we will see. Holds a curl well. The Price: Ouch. But then, you do get a ton of product, so overall...not that bad.
Lip Treatments -eos - Lip Balm Sphere - Summer Fruit

I wish you could be more emphatic. Would I buy this product again? YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!! The Package: Adorable! I love this little round case. It closes firmly, holds quite a bit of product, and has little flat bits to keep it from rolling around too much. The Product: This is my HG, go-to, everyday lip balm. It keeps my lips soft, smooth, and healthy. It smells amazing, and keeps my lips moisturized all night. The Price: For something this good, I would pay a LOT more than the measly $2 at my local CVS. <3
Lip Gloss -L'Oreal - HIP Jelly Balm [DISCONTINUED]

The Package: I HATE lip pots. URGH, so unsanitary!!!! For this product, though, I break out my lip brush...it's worth it. The Product: I have this balm in delectable, and I must agree that it is. It makes my lips look pouty and awesome. The balm is a little sticky, but it lasts for at least 4-5 hours. It also has a great sweet candy scent, and very sheer but buildable color. The Price: Cheap, for the nice product you are getting. :)
The Package: Tiny, for what you're paying. Sturdy and slim, the cap snaps on and off. The Product: Bangkok is such a lovely color with a subtle shimmer, but the texture leaves something to be desired. I know that a matte lipstick usually means dry, but without chapstick under this lipstick, I'm not sure you could even smooth it over your lips. Even with balm, this particular color is very very flattering, and lasts for at least 3-4 hours without fading. The Price: You only get a small amount of product for what you pay for, unfortunately. :(
I have a love of lip balm and gloss sticks, since I loathe goopy, sticky, wet looking glosses. This gloss stick is particularly nice, though with a few drawbacks. The Packaging: Beautiful. Sleek and elegant, and sturdy. The cap snaps on and off and twists up smoothly. The Product: I have this in Iced Lychee, a nice nude peach color. It has a sweet mango scent, though no taste, and a pleasing gloss that makes my lips look plump. However, this product is slightly drying and the gloss only lasts for 2 hours or less before you have to reapply. The Price: For $30, I expected some nice moisturizing or at least a longer wearing product. Next.
The Packaging: A dual headed tube of product, one for color and the other for opal shine, a top coat of shimmery gloss. The Product: The color of the product is mica-like and not milled as finely as I would like, suspended in a super moisturizing blend of oils. I have to say, it is one of the most moisturizing and healing lip products I have ever used. Whenever winter comes with chapped lips, I slap this stuff on and my lips are soft and smooth in a day or two. Wearing the lipcolor alone isn't advisable, since when the topcoat is added that the product really shines, literally. With the topcoat, is has a satiny finish that makes my lips look full and pouty without looking wet or goopy. The only con I can safely say is that the color is not as smooth as I would like, and the shimmer is not as finely milled as it could be. The Price: Very very reasonable :)
I have pretty frequent bouts of insomnia, and this HG product is all that stands between me and a day looking like a zombie. The Packaging: Eh. The cap is more loose than I like (I'm spoiled by the exquisitely packaged shiseido products) and the material the pencil is made of does not sharpen as smoothly as many other products I have encountered. The Product: A perfect blend of opaque milky pink and white shimmer, which brightens up my face and my undereye circles beautifully. I also use this in my inner corners of my eyes to make my eyes look doll-like. I only wish that this blended easier and/or applied as smoothly as my other eyeliners. The Price: Considering how much I need this product, how much product you get, and how I just can't find a dupe for it, I would say it is worth it.
I was hoping to use this for a cat eye, and was very disappointed in the quality compared to other drugstore liquid liners. The Packaging: Wonderful, it's almost a shame that the product in it is so poor. The cap snaps closed and the felt tip is very fine and slightly springy. The Product: A watery mess. I was hoping for an inky black (I have this in "Blackest Black") but if I get a charcoal color out of this I consider it a good day. It also feathers all over the place. The only good thing I can see about this product is that it does indeed stay put. The Price: Cheap, but In this case you get what you pay for.
I'm no eyeliner expert, but I find this liner (I have it in Golden Green GR503) easy to use and very flattering. The Packaging: It comes with a smudger at the end (I prefer a q-tip to it) and caps that fit snugly. However, the material this pencil is made of is not good for sharpening, and remains ragged. The Product: Not as long wearing as others I have used, but a very nice color with a slight shimmer. Goes on smoothly and lasts about 12 hours. The Price: Expensive.
I love shiseido eyeshadows, and they always rate HG status for me. This product (I have Serpent GR711) is a smooth, shimmery perfection of an eyeshadow. I have slightly oily lids and use no primer. The Packaging: Like all shiseido product, the packaging is of the highest quality. It comes with an elegant but sturdy case that snaps closed, a small mirror, and a double sided sponge/sponge liner applicator. Perfection. The Product: The shadow is finely milled and smooth, and blends well. You can apply it sheer, but it also builds to a deep intensity. There is no chunky glitter, and all shimmer is soft and fine. I have worn this shadow 12-18 hours with only a tiny bit of fading. :D HG of shadows. The Price: Worth it. The product is high quality, with great packaging. All around good quality.
I have this shadow in Black 4, for lining my eyes, so I cannot comment on it as an actual shadow. Packaging: Poor. It is a slim little case that closes firmly, but seems almost flimsy. For $20, I would usually expect a mirror or at least a thicker, more sturdy case. Product: This shadow is a very dark matte black, which I dab over my gel liners to make them darker and fill in gaps on my lashline with a flat liner brush. The shadow lasts quite a long time and is very finely milled and smooth. Price: The product is of very fine quality, but for $20 I expected a mirror or at least a cheap applicator. :(
Eyeliner -BeneFit Cosmetics - Badgal Waterproof Eyeliner

I'll admit, I'm a eyelining novice, but when a sephora saleswoman plunked me down on a stool and showed me how to do a cat eye, I was hooked. The Packaging: This pencil comes with a little smudger (works fantastically) and has caps that fasten snugly. The material used to make the pencil sharpens smoothly. The Product: A deep matte carbon black pencil, which glides on very smoothly. It stays in place very well, as long as you don't rub it. I took a lippie off because it is not quite waterproof (it smears a tiny bit in water), as claimed, but all and all a good product. The Price: Expensive. While I don't line my eyes enough to go through eyeliner quickly, it would be pricey to replace. After lining my eyes with this pencil, I dab MUFE eyeshadow in Black 4 using Laura Mercier Flat Liner brush to make the black a little darker and fill in any gaps in my lashline.
I have short (but fairly thick) eyelashes that just won't hold a curl with normal mascaras. I am also very very picky about what I put on my lashes, because any sign of raccoon eyes or smudging and I return/toss the product. I love Fairydrops, my eyelashes have never looked prettier ;) The Packaging: Normal mascara tube, not so normal wand. It looks like 3 balls put together in a curve. If you hold the wand so the curve faces down (like a frowny face) you can apply to your whole lashline in one or two strokes. My only complaint is that the wand gathers product at the tip, and you have to wipe it off lest you get excess mascara all over the place (I know you have to do this with other mascaras too, but it really is excessive for this one). The Product: glossy and black, and never smudges or fades. The mascara lasts all day without smudging, and even better, holds a curl all day. My eyelashes are pretty and doll-like for 12-18 hours without fading (it might be longer, but I don't wear makeup while sleeping so I couldn't tell you). It lengthens dramatically and doesn't clump :) The Price: Pricey, but you get what you pay for, no mistake. I've tried pricier who fall short and cheaper who never reach this level of quality.
