Sunscreen -La Roche Posay - Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid
rated 3 of 5

Was having problems with sunscreens stinging, burning and causing rashes so my allergist recommended this to tide me over while my skin calmed down. Ordered from Amazon for $24. for 1.7oz/50ml so it is very expensive. Very light weight almost watery in texture which makes it easy to apply. Probably the easiest sunscreen I have ever applied, it goes on like a moisterizer. It does leave a white cast but I am very white so this is not a problem for me. Unlike other sunscreens the white it leaves behind did not travel to my clothes or beach towel. It did not aggrivate my skin which is a huge plus but it did not give me the coverage I need for long periods of summer sun exposure. Saw more color and freckles than I get with sunscreens that I can use when my skin is not acting up. I plan on using the remainder of the bottle in the winter when I need less coverage. Has a slight medicinal smell which I don't like but this dissipates so that is not a big problem.

Conditioner -Kiehls - Superbly Smoothing Argan Conditioner
rated 1 of 5

Clearly I am in the minority here but I hated this conditioner because of its strong patchouli smell. Read the great reviews here and got three samples. Three hours after using I went home for lunch and got back into the shower to rewash my hair to get rid of the patchouli smell, it was that over-powering. When I asked my co-workers if I smelled different (we are a close bunch :) they asked me if I was wearing my Phish concert clothes so the scent was strong enough for others to smell on me. Thought maybe I had a bad sample so I opened the two others and it was the same strong patchouli smell. Big fail for me.

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Eye Shadow in Bone 2

This has become a HG product for me. Think I am on my 5th one. Excellent matte color, goes on smooth and lasts all day. I am pale and find that I grab this to wear it alone when I just want a natural & everyday look. Use it as a base when I am going use more than one shadow or a liner. Think I started buying this about (gulp) 20 years ago when I got my first professional job. Probably tried 10 other neutral shadows over this time but ths is the one I return to over and over again. Last time I bought it was $22 but it the pan is large and it last a long time.

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Salux Nylon Japanese Bath Towel
rated 1 of 5
H20girl 4/1/2012 11:37:00 AM

Think I must be the only person in the MUA universe who did not like the Salux cloth. Found this to be way too harsh and scratchy for my skin. Tried using with no presure and with a thick moisture packed shower gel but this cloth just grated up my skin leaving it red, blotchy and anything but smooth. Was not good for my sensitive skin. Found it is good for scrubbing shower tiles so my $5 did not go to waste.

Shampoo -Desert Essence - Shea Butter Shampoo
rated 2 of 5
H20girl 4/1/2012 11:26:00 AM

This is one of those products that making it "new and improved" has ruined it. Had bought this shampoo two times and a bottle for my niece who bascially lives in a swimming pool and we loved it!! It cleaned without stripping. leaving our hair moisturised but not weighed down and really shiny with a healthy to the touch feeling. Not easy to do for hair that is soaked in pool chemicals daily. Now the "new and improved" version of this shampoo leaves our hair dried out, hard to detangle and flat. Please bring back the old version!

Conditioner -Modern Organic Products (MOP) - mixed greens conditioner
rated 1 of 5
H20girl 4/1/2012 11:10:00 AM

Thick conditioner that is annoyingly hard to get out of the bottle and leaves my hair dry. Bought this because my stylist recommended but bought for 1/2 price, $8, on clearance at a Beauty Way. Have very fine, thin, wavy/curly hair and this conditioner weighs it down while leaving it feeling dry especially at the ends. When a shampoo or conditioner leaves my hair dry I usually end up with fly away and frizzy hair so I am not sure what this conditioner is doing to make my hair both heavy and dry but whatever it is I do not like it. Conditioner is way to thick to come out of bottle so you have to unscrew the cap to get it out. While not a big thing I find it annoying. Come on people know enough about your product to know that it will not come out of the tiny little hole in the cap you selected. Stylist who recommended has stopped using MOP and switched to Curlisto.

Styling Products -Modern Organic Products (MOP) - Lemongrass Lift Volume Spray
rated 4 of 5
H20girl 4/1/2012 10:54:00 AM

Have very fine, thin, wavy/curly hair and in the dry winter months it can look blah and flat but with many odd pieces sticking out at different crazy angles (think finger in light socket electrified hair). Lemongrass Lift applies sparingly to the roots gives my hair some life and brings the run away pieces back into a managable orbit. Found that applying too much or to end of hair makes my hair dry. Also I find that I have to wash my hair day after I use this but I have this issue with many products since my hair is so fine.

Lotions/ Creams -L'Occitane - 100% Pure Shea Butter

Count me in as another fan! Great for chapped lips, cuticles and sore faces. Bought this when traveling (instead of my stand by Weleda Skin Food) when my cheeks were getting raging red and raw from the cold wind and snow and just love it! You do have to warm it up between your hands but once you do just rub gently and your skin feels sooooo much better.

Moisturizers -Unlisted Brand - Embryolisse
rated 3 of 5
H20girl 4/1/2012 10:27:00 AM

If I could stand the smell I think I would really like this product. After reading lots of positive comments about Embryolisse on MUA's Skin Care Board I decided to give it a try as a primer. I patch tested half a dime size dab on half of my jaw line every other day for two weeks and it was fine. I have senstive skin and am very prone to allergic reactions so many products do make it through my two week test run. The first day I applied Embryolisse to my face I used nickle size dab and mostly concentrated it under my eyes and my crow's feet. It is a thin cream that applies very easily and sinks right in. Followed with concealor and TM and was very pleased with the results - easy to apply makeup over it and makeup lasted all day with no slippery feeling underneath. Noticed the smell which was strong but not overpowering. I am not a big scent person due to allergies. By day three the scent was bothering me, my eyes were watering and getting red and my nose was dripping like a very leaky faucet. Was helping someone with her computer and she mentioned the scent because she smelled it when leaned in and she knows I can not tolerate most scents. On day four I got a headache and my eyes were itchy so on day five I did not use the Embryolisse and my eyes and nose were better. Really wish that manufacturers would not add so much scent to their products! This comes in a metal tube and I paid $25 from Amazon for it. If you have no problem with scents and mineral oil I think this is worth a try as a primer. For me it is another product to pass along to someone with less senstive nose.

Primer/ Corrector -Stila - One Step Correct
rated 2 of 5
H20girl 4/1/2012 10:04:00 AM

Bought this primer because was looking for a non-silicone hydrating primer and liked the added plus that it would tone down redness. Found this inadequate for hydrating and did absolutely nothing for redness. Put on one side of face and not one tiny speck of difference in redness or color between side of face with primer and naked side. On the plus side it sinks right into skin so not slippery like other primers. Also love the pump container and wish all primers came in one.

Concealers -Christian Dior - Anticerne Perfecteur Soin Hydratant-Long Wearing Moisturizing Concealer
rated 3 of 5
H20girl 11/29/2011 12:24:00 PM

Like this but don't love it. Tried this because Cle de Peau concealer was getting harder to apply on my increasingly dry skin. This is easier to apply but it does not last as long as the Cle. Goes on smoothly and is easy to apply but it does not completely cover my very bad dark circles and then it only lasts a couple of hours. Also did not think it was hydrating, did not dry me out but did not add any additional moisture.

Lip Gloss -LORAC - Gloss Stick in Sheer Plum
rated 2 of 5
H20girl 11/29/2011 12:15:00 PM

Every time I apply this is burns the edges of my lips. A bummer because I love the sheer light color almost like a tinted lip balm and that it the texture is so smooth.

I am a woman of many talents but applying eyeliner is not one of them. With this brush I no longer stab myself, look like I put my eyeliner on while intoxicated or scare infants with my crazy lined eyes. Easy to use with powder or gel this is my Holy Grail of brushes.

Cleansers -Nude Skincare - Cleansing Facial Oil
rated 5 of 5
H20girl 11/29/2011 12:00:00 PM

This is a product I would have never tried if I had not received a sample with a Sephora purchase. When I wear makeup this cleanses everything away without stripping my face or leaving a residue. Had tried Shu, mineral oil followed by CeraVe cleanser, coconut oil and made my own cleansing oil but this is better by far. While it is not cheap you only need a tiny amount to clean off a full face of makeup (primer, foundation, mascara, eyeliner...). Leaves my face clean and soft. Does have a fragrance, think it smells like neroli, but the fragrance washes away with the product. Packaging is super easy to travel with unlike many of the other things I have tried.

Gels/Soaps -Pacifica - Brazilian Mango Grapefruit soap
rated 5 of 5
H20girl 11/29/2011 11:42:00 AM

Very gentle shower gel that leaves skin soft and hydrated with a very light fresh scent. I have to sniff my arm to smell the scent which is fine with me because I hate strong scents. As it is an all natural soap it does not produce a lot of lather. Love that it does not strip my skin and leave it dry like many shower gels I have tried.
