Fragrances -LaLique - Lalique
Gretchen76 1/26/2013 8:59:00 PM
I used to love this scent back in college circa 1995. My best friend at the time gave me a bottle of this. I loved the frosted bottle and the contents were a mix of rich heady florals. Even better, a guy I liked told me that I "stinked nice" (kind of a back-handed comment, I know). Well, fast forward, the guy turned out to be a womanizing jerk (he had a girlfriend) and I fell out of love with the scent. I tried it again a few years back, but it brought back too many painful memories, so off to Salvation Army it went. I don't think I could ever wear this scent again. Maybe I'll try again in say, 50 years.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Baby Phat Goddess
Gretchen76 1/10/2012 3:09:00 PM
This scent reminds me of something from my college days- it's bugging me that I can't put my finger on it! Anyhow, this comes off as fruity-floral on me even though there isn't any fruit listed as notes. I had read a review on basenotes that said it reminded the person of the scent of those "Pat the Bunny" books so I was intrigued. I don't get that at all here- comes off kind of ozonic, too. The bottle is pretty but I'm glad I only had a sample, won't be purchasing.

Fragrances -Elizabeth Arden - Britney Spears Believe
Gretchen76 1/1/2012 7:32:00 PM
I bought this a few Christmases ago as a mini for $12. I love the opening with the guava and others fruits but the dry-down leaves me with a terrible headache and nausea. I couldn't figure out why until recently- it reminds me a lot of the dry-down of Euphoria. There is some creamy floral patchouli aura that's going on that is a no go for me. Too bad as I love the bottle and the color of the juice.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Love's Fresh Lemon
Gretchen76 1/1/2012 7:20:00 PM
I'm sorry to have to give this such a low rating but the staying power is nil here. I bought this a few months ago at K-mart (came with the cutest stuffed teddy bear!) for $6.99. The scent itself is like pure fresh-squeezed lemons- and I don't normally like citrus based scents but this was such a dead-ringer. Within 5 minutes the scent was poof- gone, had to re-apply frequently. So sad. My bottle is a "cologne mist" so I'm wondering if that's the weakest concentration- but it's the only one I can find as well. I'll keep mine around for summer spritizing. Edit 1/7/12: I'm not expecting a Dior fragrance here (though some high-end fragrances don't last on me, either) my only wish is that this would last longer.

Cleansers -Noxzema - Original Skin Cream
Gretchen76 1/1/2012 3:18:00 PM
I remember my mother using Noxzema on us kids when we were young as a cure for sunburn. She would have us slather ourselves in it and sit in front of our one large fan in our non air-conditioned apartment. It was always a staple in our house. Last night I was out and had a little too much of drinky-drink and woke up today with my face feeling like a giant greaseball. When I got home I dug out my good ole Noxzema and proceeded to clean my face- it was the best! My skin felt clean and tingly all over! Now I wonder why I have it hidden away and don't use this daily-will have to remedy this immediately!

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Dana Classic Fragrances - Love's Baby Soft
Gretchen76 1/1/2012 3:11:00 PM
What can I say about Love's Baby Soft that has been already said? It's soft and powdery and lasts all day on me. I have both vintage Menley and James Version and Dana's. The M & J version is slightly more musky and animalic than Dana's. The Dana's is pretty much pure powder on me. I love to wear this year round- it's great for any occasion-not just for wearing around the house. It's a cuddle-me fragrance for sure. My best friend in high school wore this scent and I always remember wanting a bottle of this for myself. It's also easily found in stores and online at dirt-cheap prices.

Fragrances -J. Lo - Glow
Gretchen76 11/13/2011 9:21:00 PM
Got this in a giftset for under $10 this past spring. Initially was a very pretty soapy scent. Then the soapiness overstayed its welcome and dried down with a sour base. I will give it points for the longevity is incredible but not in a good way. Ended up giving it away.

Fragrances -Serge Lutens - Muscs Koublai Khan
Gretchen76 11/13/2011 2:21:00 PM
I'm on the fence about this one as the first time I sampled it I just got a soft powdery musk. I was really hoping for the raunch that others were describing here. The second sampling gave me a hit of sweaty armpit for about the first half hour, then it's back to powdery musk. I' still in search of the epitome of a dirty musk, but will not give up on my sample just yet. Just not sure if I would shell out for a full bottle of this.

Fragrance -Coty - Jovan Musk For Men
Gretchen76 11/13/2011 2:14:00 PM
I couldn't help but giggle when I received this scent in the mail- I was instantly besotted with it! I ordered the Musk Oil online from ebay expecting a masculine scent. What I got was what "Perfumes The Guide" must have been referring to as a laundry musk scent. There is supposedly some spearmint in here too but I don't get that at all- just a cozy warm musk. Long lasting on the skin, too. A reviewer under the Jovan Musk for Women recommended using the men's version in place of it as it smells more like the vintage womens musk. Easily a unisex scent. Notes: Top: Lime, pepper, carnation, lemon Middle: Amber, lavender, spearmint, exotic spices Base: Woods, musk

Fragrances -Calvin Klein - Eternity for Women
Gretchen76 4/29/2011 3:02:00 PM
Once this scent gets in my nose, it's very hard to chase it out. It has a very sharp soapy quality to it. Instant headache inducer. Very strong sillage (maybe due to users spraying large quantities on). I haven't dared to spray this on myself because of my reaction to the way it smells on others. Not pretty or feminine at all.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Babe
Gretchen76 4/14/2011 9:01:00 PM
I know it's long discontinued, but I loved this scent circa 1987. I was 11. Expose's "Come Go With Me" was playing on the radio. It had been a Christmas present either my one of my aunts or grandparents had given my sister and I. By that time, Babe came in plastic splash-on-type bottles with some weird hot pink design on the bottle. The smell- oh it was heaven! From what I've found, it's considered a floral, but I don't really get that- it's just so smooth, a little sweet, a little sexy- ageless. Can be found on E-bay - the prices can vary wildly depending on what you are looking for. I have to say I've some that I ordered from an e-tailer and it came to me smelling fresh and exactly as I remembered. I hope I can always have some around! Notes (via scent direct and Fragrantica): 1976 ( some sources say 1977) Chypre-Floral Top: Aldehydes, Bergamot Oil, Hyacinth, Raspberry Middle: Carnation, Honey, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Orris, Rose Basenotes: Amber, Musk, Sandalwood, Treemoss, Vetiver As a side note- Yendi by Capucci smells very similar to Babe- but unfortunately it is also discontinued!

Fragrances -Coty - Aspen (Original)
Gretchen76 12/27/2010 3:52:00 PM
I was thinking of this perfume the other night out of the blue. I was gifted the original Aspen almost, gulp, 20 years ago by a very good friend at Christmas. This scent always reminds me of the cold, blustery wintry weather so I had to haul it out today while a storm rages outside. There's something about this scent, from the embossed leaf on the bottle to the scent that leaves you sniffing for more! After searching for a list of notes, the best I could find were that it is a" watery fruity floral sweet" scent and 2) "A blend of ocean air and marine notes". Neither of those 2 descriptions truly fit the bill- yes, it's sweet but not foody sweet. Maybe a little tuberose or gardenia for the floral? Watery? Not a chance- for cologne strength 2 sprays will last several hours! Marine=ozone to me, none of that here. Aspen leaves me stumped, but I'm happy to keep guessing. Great memories all around!

Fragrance -Coty - Stetson cologne
Gretchen76 4/27/2010 9:04:00 PM
This is an amazingly rich, deliciously warm, inviting scent! It reminds me exactly of the pipe tobacco my grandfather used to smoke with maybe a tinge of citrus at the top. I've wasted time/money trying to recapture that smell and all along it's been right under my nose (pardon the pun) for next to nothing! Scentdirect.com categorizes it as an Ambery Oriental- along with Chaps, Royal Copenhagen, Obsession for men and Sagamore. It is very affordable- I got my .75 oz bottle for $10 (after holidays you probably can get it at clearance price). Longevity is amazing- 2 spritzes lasted a good 6-7 hours on me so apply sparingly or it can become nauseating. On clothing the scent will last for several days! While I enjoy wearing it myself- I certainly wouldn't object to capturing whiffs on man walking by! Pay no mind to other reviews you may read on other sites about this scent being for "rednecks" and "trailer trash" and other offensive rubbish. Let your nose decide- it will thank you! Notes per Scentdirect.com Top: Bergamot oil, clary sage oil, lavender, lemon, lime Middle: Carnation, Cedarwood oil, Geranium, Jasmin, Orris, Patchouli, Vetiver Base: Amber, honey, Musk, Tonka, Vanilla

Fragrance -Givenchy - Pi (For Men)
Gretchen76 4/18/2010 12:19:00 PM
A warm woody vanilla. Unfortunately it gives me a terrible headche. Reminds me a bit of Rochas Man- but the Rochas has some lavender in it that gives it a twist. The EDT last for 7 hours on my skin. Don't think I would like this on a man--too sweet.

Fragrance -Juicy Couture - Dirty English
Gretchen76 3/2/2010 5:36:00 PM
Fake woods note and incense sticks mixed with rubbing alcohol. The scent never evolved- never got any hint of leather or spice. Nothing "dirty" about it- just annoying as it lasts for hours. It's going back to the store.
